My uncle invited the fam to lunch at McAlister's Deli. From what I can tell, its pretty similar to Panera in that they serve soup, sandwiches and salads. If you order like most of us did, you can get a half portion of two of those items. I myself got a grilled chicken sandwich and the roasted veggie soup. The soup was pretty good. Tomatoes, corn, and who knows what else. Had a slight spice to it. My chicken sandwich had potential. Deli sliced chicken with swiss cheese, tomato and greens on a croissant. Not a bad sandwich but something off with one of the ingredients on this particular occassion. This was not my favorite meal of my recent NC trip but it it was alright. I'm not terribly surprised that I was less than impressed with it considering that it is similar to Panera which I another place I don't care that much for. read more

My wife and I showed up looking for some good food. That's not what we found. As we went in we decided to do the order at the table thing. We sat down and looked over the menu. As I looked I noticed the tables were very close together and under our table there were tiles that were not in place. Not a good start. I got the Smokey pepper jack turkey with chips and a sweet tea. My wife got a BLT with Mac and cheese and a half and half tea. A blonde waitress brought us our teas and as she did she threw the straws on the table. We both kind of looked at each other and didn't know what to think. We then received our food and the exact thing happened. Our food was abruptly put on the table. At this point we have become very upset. I ask if I could have a small thing of extra honey mustard. The waitress said ok and as she walked away she rolled her eyes. We began to eat and my wife noticed that her sand-which was not really a full sand-which. Half the bread was missing. The overall experience was not good. Especially for the price we paid for two sandwiches. To the manager, I understand that people have bad days, but nobody should be treated that way. If you want to keep people coming to your establishment you might want to make sure everybody is trained right. This young lady is not. Per that experience my wife and I will not be going back to this establishment and I will make sure others know that this location is not a good location. We came here to eat for lunch between dashing and ordered at the counter. I ordered the half spicy turkey melt and black angus roast beef spud and Joe got the half sweet chipotle chicken and chili. Our food came out after 5-7 mins I can't remember exactly anymore but it wasn't long. They brought out our food and the girl who helped us realized my au jus was missing and got some for me. The sandwiches were amazing tho the spicy melt was not at all spicy and the chili was super flavorful. The potato was cooked great but there wasn't much flavor to anything but the au jus. I even added butter but I probably should've added some salt and pepper to it but it was still good. Definitely will be coming back to eat again. read more

My first time visiting MAD with one of my best friends. We were over at the Marshalls/Home Goods and it was getting late so we decided to grab something quick. As well his food options were limited and he mentioned MAD having good sandwiches and soups. I figured oh a Panera type spot so I was game. As we walked up to the counter the cashier saw that we were scanning the menu at the counter and politely said to take our time and she's here when we're ready. It's always nice to be acknowledged by a company as a customer. The cashier was extremely attentive and asked great questions on what we wanted and any food allergies. We ended up ordering the White Chicken Chili in the bread bowl which was delicious which is an understatement. I would go there just for that it was so good. We got the broccoli and cheese. I ordered the Caesar Salad wrap which I felt needed a bit more sauce but the chicken was thin sliced and felt I got enough for the price which is always nice. I honestly wish I got the white chicken chili lol. Overall great experience for a first timer and I would recommend to others. MAD has a diner feel so be prepared for that. The sweet tea isn't to sweet which is good for me. I'm not a big sweets guy so it was lightly sweetened. read more

Horrible staff member. Went here after shopping for my birthday lunch. Asked an allergy question to ensure what i was ordering would be safe, as my breastfeeding infant could have a reaction. A simple "i'm sorry we don't know that information would have sufficed". However, the lady scoffed and in an annoying tone asked the cook, "she wants to know if this has dairy in it, i don't know why she's asking that". Then proceeded to tell me, we don't know the answer to these kinds of things in a rude tone. My mother in law and i turned around and just walked out. I am a frequent customer at McAlister's. I have to say todays visit for lunch with family visiting in town was an all- time worst! The staff is typically friendly but the woman taking our order today seemed to be annoyed by our presence and very impatient and couldn't get our order right in the process. I normally order a salad but changed it up to a McAllister's club. The food quality with the McAlister's club has declined. Three of us ordered the sandwich and all three had very little meat in them. The bread was dried out. I also noticed they stopped carrying the cranberry spread as well. I give credit to the woman who brought the food to our table. She corrected a sandwich that was a typed in incorrectly in the order. She was very friendly and a pleasure with drink refills. It wouldn't have been so obvious except I had just been to another location in town and had the same sandwich, chicken salad on a croissant, and it was chock full of salad with the croissant lightly toasted, but still very recognizable. Alongside was the usual pickle. This time at Blakeney location I opened the wrapping to see my cold chicken salad sandwich pressed down to a 1/2 inch high and barely any filling on most of the sandwich and none on part of it. I started to eat the one half and then noticed no pickle either! I decided to bring it to someone's attention. I pointed it out and nothing much was said but I thought that I heard the young order taker say they would take care of it. I waited and then waited until upon checking I was told that it was made correctly and they were not fixing it!! Made correctly? Looked like someone stepped on it. The piece between my finders is supposed to be 2 sides of the croissant! Had I known they were not fixing it I would have taken a pic prior to eating it. I was brought out the missing pickle and later When the mgr walked past I asked her her name. I think she saw me typing this . She told me it was Adrian and then when we were about ready to leave she came back with a card that comped a pick 2 the next visit. This all could have been avoided if it was recognized as a very poorly prepared sandwich and to fix it. I wasn't looking for a freebie, just the usually chicken salad croissant quality that I've been ordering for over the last 12 years! Around 20 years ago, I regularly visited McAlister's (in another state), especially for their iced tea. Over the years, I've visited a number of McAlister's locations in several states, though I have admittedly not been to any location in about 5-6 years. It was a very warm, muggy day. So perhaps out of a sense of nostalgia, I stopped by this Blakeney location for the first time, mainly for the tea. I don't know if it is the case for all McAlister's locations now, but this one has certainly seen better days. Everything was old, dingy, and even filthy. It looked like the McAlister's locations I visited 10, 15, and 20 years ago, except with zero maintenance, updating, or cleaning since then. All of the seats and booths had noticeable scratches, scuffs, upholstery rips, and the like; likewise, the paint on the walls and chair rails was chipped everywhere. All of the decorative pictures were so old that they had noticeably faded over the years; it was clear that they had once been vividly colored but were now diminished to faintly visible pale pastel tones. What's worse was that the walls had all kinds of stains on them, and even the glass on the decorative posters and pictures were covered with thick grime. I was sitting in a location such that the sunlight hit one frame at an angle that made every smudge and caked-on stain clearly visible. It was very evident that this was not a recent blemish but was rather the accumulation of many years of filth. Clearly, nothing had been cleaned in many years. If that's what's visible to the paying consumer, I shudder to think what the kitchen might look like. I offer 2 stars because at least the woman taking the order and payment was friendly. As a post script, that tea that I fondly remembered from yesteryear had lost its luster. Likewise, the food was stuck around the year 2000. I don't know if that is because this location offers food and tea unlike other McAlister's (I doubt it) or whether after 5-10 years away from this business, the vibrancy had faded, much like the faded posters on the walls. At least--unlike the wall posters--the tea wasn't filthy. But now in 2022, it's just tea. read more

And, after receiving such bad service at the counter I got the wrong sandwich, ugh..And, after waiting almost 30 minutes. Yes, it was noon, but seriously. 30 minutes for a cup of soup and 1/2 sandwich. Crazy! I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which was good, I got three tortilla chips on the side. I asked some extra chips and was told I needed to pay $1.00. Seriously? First off, I have always received more than three chips at the other McAlisters and to be charged $1.00 for something that should have been included with my soup, so sorry. I am impressed how they follow their Covid protocol. All their staffs wear masks and you can also do dine in. The place is extremely clean. I love their quality of their food. The staffs are always friendly and make you feel welcome. They are very generous when it comes to refill your drinks. Mom always get the grill chicken club and all their sandwiches come with an side. There are SO many better places to get a sandwich within a block or two of this place. Maybe people are just used to 3-4 STAR performance from other McAlister's. This one is slow, disorganized, often dirty, etc. And don't expect much for your money. I know restaurants need to make money but if you can't make a proper sandwich, raise the price until you can afford to put a slice of turkey that covers the bread. read more

Stopped in here to order some take-out lunch to eat at home. We beat the lunch rush, but like most McAlister's, this location handles rushes pretty well. Our order (being a "big" one for 5 people and a small child) was correct and the person taking our order was very patient with us as 5 people trying to decide what to eat on a giant menu of items is daunting. This location is tucked in Blakeney and the parking lot is not my favorite to navigate, but still pretty manageable. This spot is very busy during the weekend, but I'm sure attracts a good crowd during the week days. Since we didn't dine in, I can't speak much about the dining room, but it looked to be in order. The staff was busy busing tables for the turn-over lunch crowd. Probably my biggest gripe is that there is a small outdoor bench to sit on while waiting for your order to be prepared. You don't really wait that long, but if there is more than one family waiting for an order, you will be standing up for sure. read more

This place is kind of like Panera Bread without the pretentious feel. I really liked this place, they have a very friendly staff and good service. Plus the food is out of this world. Their cesar salad is a great addition to any meal and their sandwiches are quite impressive. I have to mention that their chocolate spoon cake is not for the weak of stomach. It is very thick and rich and has been known to cause spasms in those with a low chocolate tolerance. So first time experience was very good. Ordered a roast beef with cheddar and horseradish with the side of Mac and cheese. Bread was soft and fresh and roast beef was amazingly soft no need for a knife to cut through. Sweet ice tea was nice. The staff was very good, nice, friendly Nd helpful. My only thought that the cheese was not spot on didn't even feel like there was any. Also the horseradish didn't have the kick I was expecting. The Mac and cheese seemed fresh Home made and good but seemed to be missing flavor too. The cheese was ok nothing to send me jumping over the moon for. Maybe sharper cheese or breadcrumbs/topping to give it a extra kick to put it over the top. I love the WOW factor when I spend $$$. A couple days ago, I was contacted by the new manager at this location. Apologizing for my poor experience on 7/15 and promising it's getting better. I went there yesterday to see if this was true. I was very happy to see that it was. Whatever the management is doing here, it's working. We were greeted and orders were taken in a reasonable time. Got BOTH drinks with our order before going to our table and the food arrived within minutes. The food was great, as usual. The mac and cheese was still brought to us in a "to go" container... we asked one of the girls why they're using that instead of an actual bowl... she said she was unsure but she hasn't seen them using bowls in a long time. Okay..... that was my only complaint but that's just me being picky. :) We were approached several times during our meal asking about refills..how our food was... and if we needed to go boxes. THANK YOU! Everyone was really nice and I appreciated the great service that we were given. We had a great time and we will be back. Well worth the money and the second chance. After a long morning, my family and I wanted to share some time together, with lunch. I entered the restaurant and ordered what me and my family wanted. We found the only table that could fit a family, and were surprised by the terrible condition the table was in. We found an employee, and politely asked her if the table could get cleaned. She soaked the table and dropped everything on the seats, we asked for napkins to dry off the table and we got about three in total. After this ordeal was finally over we sat down, and awaited the arrival of the food. We got our food, except for one member of my family, the waitress looked at them and asked if they even ordered anything! They repeated their order to the waitress, and had to wait about 10 minutes until their order finally got to them. This was an absolutely terrible dining experience! read more

I had heard a lot of good things about McAlister's since I moved to Charlotte about a year ago, so I finally decided to try it out. I was very disappointed, not only was my sandwich pretty sloppy, so was the restaurant. There were flies everywhere and the booths and tables were clearly pretty well dated. I was very unimpressed. On the contrary, I will say that I thought that all of the employees I interacted with were extremely nice and very welcoming. So I decided to give this spot another try after a manager contacted me and sent me a gift card asking me to give this spot another chance. Definitely a better experience. I wish they wore name tags cuz then I could praise people on here. The Black girl with the black and red hair was extremely friendly not just to me but to other customers I witnessed her taking their orders. She greeted me. Asked me how my day was going. Asked me how much ice I wanted in my drink. Got my drink right away after I ordered. Just overall pleasant. I don't require all that, but it's nice when people want to go the extra mile. She even greeted people she walked past. Just now she told me she would check on my order. Wasn't even waiting that long. STELLAR customer service. Not sure how the others are but she is the example others should follow. I've never received my food so fast. I know that also has to do with the kitchen. You need to check your order at this location. We been ordering to go from this location for a few years and I have to constantly check the order to make sure it was prepared properly and that all items that were ordered are included in the take out bag as usually one or two items end up missing. I relaxed a little yesterday when I picked up an order from McAlister's yesterday big mistake. I figured both of the kids got Spuds this time Just a Spud with Bacon and Cheese should be easy right, don't have to worry about a missing Mac and Cheese or a sandwich done wrong. Easy. Nope Carmelized Onions mixed in the Bacon and Cheese on my Son's Spud. He wasn't happy as he not a fan of onions I feel silly because I usually check the food before I leave to catch these things. So back to McAlister's where they did replace the food and said a quick sorry. Of course now I thinking about this experience the next day and I'm thinking why should I feel silly. Is it too much to ask McAlister's to check the order and get it right the first time? This is not the first time they screwed an order up. We order online so we can be as clear as possible as to what we want and minimize the possibility of mistakes. McAlister's really needs a better quality control process on their orders because I am not happy about having to drive back to get their mistakes fixed for just a lukewarm sorry. read more

This McAlister's used to be a great place to eat, but not anymore. The service is ridiculously slow and terrible. The food is poorly prepared and presented. None of the employees seem to care that the restaurant is rapidly falling apart. I'm unsure what caused this drastic change in quality at this McAlister's, but if it doesn't turn around soon I'm not sure it will be able to stay in business.
