I am going to suggest that you get in touch with these guys for any HVAC needs that you may have. You can not go wrong no matter what the situation may be. We have been dealing with this company for many years and it has been a wonderful experience. The company employs persons with experience and knowledge of the industry and has been very honest about their opinions on the need or needs that are discovered by their inspection. I have never had an issue with them trying to get me to do anything that was not necessary. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. THEY RIP YOU OFF. Purchase was a full Furnace / HVAC unit from McAfee less than 3 years ago. Evaporator coil went bad in June (at just over 2 years). Part was covered under warranty, but they charged $750 hr for labor costs ($1500 labor charge and 2 hours work). After replacement, the unit was leaking so tech came back to fix. No charge because it was something the tech did. But a few days later AC capacitor went bad on outside unit. No problem, should be under warranty, but tech said part was not under warranty, it was a consumable. Tech also said it probably went bad due to the previous leak that had the unit turning on so often since AC was not operating correctly. As a reminder, they caused the leak. They then charged 150% over national average for the repair (that should be warranty work). So, if you want crap HVAC equipment that goes bad quickly (so they can outrageous hourly rates to "fix"), incompetent techs that don't do the repairs correctly, and management that doesn't give a crap, then McAfee should be your choice. If you don't want that look elsewhere. You can't do worse. read more

Paid $29.99 a month and they find stuff wrong everytime for about $300 each problem, even on the A/C they installed and has their name on it. Once we had an issue on Saturday and they still charged a service call since it was a weekend but said they could not actually fix the heater until Monday when they can get in their own warehouse? Then on the winter inspection they said the heater was dangerous and I needed a new one for $10k, they shut off the gas to it and turned it off. My family sat in cold until I got home to turn it back on. Another company came out and said the lines are a bit rusted and I eventually need a new heater but not urgently. AVOID McAfee! read more

The service guy was very young, but nice and polite...He couldn't find the problem at first and said everything was Ok....I said it wasnt working right, so he stopped and start the furnace 3 times...Took off 2 screws for the faceplate...Took a small wire brush and wiped off some dust (did not take out the assembly and thoroughly clean)...2 mins and put back on the faceplate and charged $296...I tried to call the next morning and The receptionist became short with me..... Hired this company to complete 1)Annual Insp and maintenance of heating system. 2)Clean Blower Assembly Level 2 3) Coil Sanitization with Fungicide 4) Replace UV Blub. Total bill was $611.40. The service tech was young and polite but when we removed cover for the Coil after he had left it was not cleaned at all. He even showed us a pic of how bad it was. We paid $200.00 just for that part. Also, they do not bring any type of vacuum to clean furnace. It took 3 phone calls and several emails for Travis the manager to bother to call us back. My husband cleaned the coil ourselves but they will not refund us the $200.00 and they insist on coming out even though it is now clean by us. I feel this company is dishonest and says they do things that they really do not do. We even enrolled in the Maintenance contract that costs like $25/month. We are reconsidering this. read more

Our furnace was not working so I called McAfee to have them look at the unit. The technician stated that the switch on the outside of the furnace was bad and needed replaced. We replaced the switch on the unit as the tech stated it would be 150$ for him to replace the switch... Called in an Electrician to take a look to make sure the switch was installed correctly only to find out multiple internal components were burnt. The McAfee tech should have been able to identify this issue and work with us to find a resolution. Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. SN: I also started the service plan with this company. BUYER be WEAR! 4 years ago I purchased a new Heating and Air system from McAfee. The previous 40+ year system was needed to be replaced. After getting bids from other companies, we decided to spend $1500 MORE than the closest quote because we felt the reputation of the company and the community involvement of this company was worth investing in. My air conditioning stopped working so I called McAfee to come out and fix my problem. To their credit they did come out the next day. When the repairmen saw my outside unit he automatically said I have not had serve on my system for 4 years and the repair wont be covered under warranty because I have not had them service it for 4 years. The repairman was quick to try to sell me a yearly service plan that costs around $250 a year. After quickly diagnosing the problem the repairman said it was a capacitor had failed. The repairman charged me $197 for the replacement capacitor plus the $90 trip charge. I questioned the repairman and said 'you got to be kidding me, Motor start capacitors sell for under $50' as I told the guy. I paid the guy and looked up the cost of the capacitor on line. I could buy the exact replacement for $24.99. I have NO Problem with a company making a profit BUT Paying $197 for replacement Capacitor + the $90 Trip charge IS EXCESSIVE!!! McAfee sold me Furnace system with complete system check for $4,700 11/2/2019. Failed to install rusted parts connected, water/mold no air flow. November 2, 2019, 6 months ago, I called McAfee for another followup service for my HVAC unit was still under warranty from prior service calls and I am a Family Comfort Gold Member. I am Permanently Disabled with oxygen required for my lungs are severely damaged due to industrial chemical exposure. Dust, mold, poor air quality, and extreme hot or cold temperatures is life threatening to me. This was explained to McAfee customer service Amy and Angie, Installers-Andy Roth, Jason James, Troy Dobbs prior to Installation scheduled 11/6/2019. My service and dispatch call was by Andy Roth 11/2/2019. My McAfee Gold Comfort Guaranteed Service was charged and my entire HVAC system was to be serviced and replacement parts and labor included with my $4700 paid in full on installation 11/6/2019. No air/heat was coming out of the vents. The new McAfee brand Furnace was to remedy the failure of the Furnace to provide any movement of air. After the installation both on the top of my furnace replacement and bottom connections duct work in the crawl space below. The rusted sheet metal was brought to the installers attention and was promised it would be replaced as it is common problem (see photo taken Today May 26,2020). I was provided a warranty of 10 year parts, 3 year labor, and 20 year Heat Exchange warranties by McAfee product and Services. April 25, 2020 Call McAfee 937-438-1976 and information left with McAfee as severe problem with no heat or air coming out of vents while furnace is on. I expressed my medical needs, dust and foul air was exiting the vents with no heat. I repeated that I am under warranty from 6 months ago and problem is severe, emergency level. May 7, 2020 Dispatch 261951 Christopher Bryant service tech noted that the sheet metal below the furnace was rusted and hanging with large 1 foot by 1 foot hole expelling all heated air, from the McAfee new furnace installation 6 months ago, it was apparent that the installers duct taped the sheet metal as duct tape is seen in photos and in crawl space attached to the rusted sheet metal below the new furnace. McAfee has collected $4700 and $19.95 monthly for Gold Service membership that was not appropriately installed, serviced, replaced, nor honestly shared with me, the customer. I have had 2 Emergency room visits and 1 hospitalization for severe lung infection and particles spitting up when coughing up the dirt from my crawl space. I trusted Greg McAfee to perform as advertised, warranty, guaranteed per my installations and service agreements paid. This has been communicated to Angie and the service techs. Friday May 8, 2020 Angie advised me that McAfee would not accept any Service Calls to my house or myself. This is not a Maintenance issue, this should have been addressed and fixed when new furnace was installed on 11/6/2019. Consumer's Desired Resolution: The resolution is very simple, that McAfee provide the product and service. Proper repair and replace the parts and labor I need this fixed for my health, safety, and comfort. McAfee can pay a capable contractor that estimates can be provided, if required. Due to the excess calling, waiting, and lack of service, I have been hospitalized for lung infections and spitting up dirt and dust that was not a problem in my home before McAfee installed the new furnace improperly. Had a terrible time actually getting a technician to arrive for a service call. Our AC went out and we had a service plan with them, so we called for a tech. We were assured someone would be out in a given window. That window came and went with no one arriving. We waited for hours and called the office again. Were told a tech was on his way. Two more hours went by and no one came. We finally had someone show around 9 pm--not the original guy, but a different one, who had no idea what the problem with the first guy had been. We felt for guy #2 as it was so late and he likely didn't expect to have a call added to the end of his day. We've canceled our ongoing service contract and will be using a different company going forward...a little outside a service window happens sometimes, but when we are sitting home all afternoon just to have no one come until 9 pm is ridiculous. read more

Please rethink before calling McAfee Heating and Air. My AC unit stop working on Tuesday night and I called to use my $13/month subscription to have them come look at it. I appreciate the fact that the technician came out the same day I called but that is where any type of good service ended. All I wanted was for the AC to be repaired, but before checking anything or assessing the problem the technician said our unit was too old, any tools or parts he had would not work, and it needed to be replaced. When my husband told him we would not be buying a new unit through their company and would like him to see what the repair cost would be (a new AC is not needed), he immediately had an attitude. He appeared to lack the ability and desire to do even an adequate evaluation. Told us it needed 2 lbs of coolant and probably had a leak. His solution was to fill the 2lbs of coolant at a cost of $400.00 and come back out in two weeks to see how much was left (causing another service charge and possibly another charge for coolant). When my husband asked if he had preformed a leak test the tech was rude when answering when a simple "no" would have worked. The tech was asked to leave due to the unwillingness to do any actual work or explanation of the actual cause of the problem. We then called another company who came out, did a routine clean and removed the dead animal that had fried itself while chewing on a wire. It was explained to us from the new company that our unit was in good working order (minus the rodent) and did not in fact have any type of leak. The new company did say that we need to cover the unit in the off months and have it cleaned yearly. If the tech that came out first from McAfee Heating and Air would have been more of service man than a salesperson, you may not have lost a customer. As of today, we have cancelled our monthly subscription with you and will not be referring your company or services to anyone. read more

I called McAfee when my house A/C stopped blowing cold air. They were quick to return my call and had a tech at my house in a couple hours for $86. The tech Informed us that the compressor was bad inside the condenser (the condenser is the part of your A/C that's outside and blows hot air). He said the entire condenser would need replaced which costs thousands of dollars. I called my uncle who has been an hvac tech for decades for a second opinion and he was able to troubleshoot the problem to a capacitor for the compressor. The capacitor was a $7 dollar part. We had our heat pump and furnace/air conditioner replaced one year ago. If you don't mind a system that groans and whines, on occasion waking you up at night, this system is for you. We have had several service calls with no resolution of this problem. We also experienced a problem with our heat pump shortly after installation, due to improper placement of a part, that was too close to wiring. We also had to request a copy of the work order, findings and service work provided, via email, not provided otherwise. Against the advice of friends, we chose McAfee, as many years ago I represented an organization that was honored with the Integrity award at the Dayton Dragons game at the same time as McAfee. Upon completion of a job of replacing a fan on my furnace, I was given a price for the job. I asked the technician the cost of the part that was replaced, and he instructed me that McAfee does not provide such information. I asked him if there was any way I could find out, and he called his supervisor, who I then spoke to. The supervisor told me that McAfee will not provide this information. Asking to break out the cost of a service job by labor / parts is a perfectly reasonable request. In fact, on this very day, I also had my refrigerator serviced and received a quote which was broken out by parts / service charge / labor / tax. Yet, in effect, McAfee was telling me, 'just trust us'. I have no idea if I received fair value. I paid $800. The part that was replaced could cost $100, $200, $300....who knows? I could be getting fleeced. Or, I could have received a great rate. McAfee is free to run its business as it wishes. However, I will not utilize McAfee again. Since they choose to offer zero transparency, I will choose to take my business elsewhere. Note, I have no issue w/ the service or the professionalism of the technician. I have a service contract with McAfee, which I purchased along with the installation of a new furnace. This company is very good about showing up on time, making required adjustments, service, even replacement of warranteed parts (although I did have to argue my case in regard to one item in which they said was out of warranty). My a/c unit is very old, and they put the hard sell on me to replace it at the time the furnace was replaced. I declined. Every spring when a technician comes to do contract service, they find something "wrong" with the a/c and give a horror story that it's going to cause a fire. When it sounds bad, I call in a friend, who is in the business, for a second opinion. Each time he has assured me there is nothing wrong with what they've pointed out. Even though he is a friend, I still pay him his service fee for coming out. I'm really beginning to mistrust McAfee. The amount they charge for parts is astronomical. read more

I recently had an AC problem. The unit was just blowing hot air. When I called McAfee, my request for service was handled in a very efficient manner with all of my service options explained. The technician arrived during the appointment window. He called to tell me he was on the way. When he arrived, he was well dressed and handled the service issue promptly. I also noticed that both his truck and his equipment were neat, clean, and well organized. That tells me the company is well organized and cares about their reputation and the quality of their work. When my furnace would not heat the house above 64 degrees, I called McAfee. They said they would be out the same day and this fee would be $90 (just to come to my house). I said okay, seemed reasonable since I needed service. Technician arrived, spent about 15 minutes working on problem then left. He charged me an additional $140. The problem: the air filter I purchased was the wrong MERV (a term that I had never heard of). The MERV is apparently the filter material that is allowing the air throughput. If too thick, dirt gathers sooner than the 1-3 month promised by the manufacturer. My filter was rated a 3 month and only installed 1 month before. I purchased a "15" and he said I should be using a 7-8. The MERV rating is on the side of the filter. When the filter was removed, the house reached the thermostat 72 degrees setting. Educational, however, $140 for 15 minutes is excessive. When I called McAfee's office to discuss, I received a short answer of basically that is the way it is. I expected that they would tell me that it was an hourly rate, for 1 minute to 60 minutes of work. But, in the discussion, I was told they do NOT charge by the hour! $140 for 15 minutes is EXCESSIVE! read more

I called McAfee to see what was going on with my furnace. They sent a tech out to do a "diagnostic". This cost me just under $90.00. This man came in, was on the phone asking for help the majority of the service. He did not look in the furnace itself. He went on the roof and in the attic. Checked the exhaust. All seemed maybe ok. He was unsure. He said he thought it maybe could be the condensation from the gas either burning too hot or not hot enough. That being said, because of my water heater, that I just replaced 1.5 years prior, he could not service my furnace. He suggested I call them back when I again replace my water heater and get a tankless. This is a Huber Home. They are a standard cookie cutter house type. This area has hundreds or more of this type of house. So if you are in one. I do not recommend this company. They will take your 90 to tell you they cannot help. My AC went out last weekend so I originally called the company I had do an annual service a few months back. I won't mention their name but it's the same as the hottest season of year. During my service, they tried upselling me on an entire new AC system since mine is being phased out due to the freon used in a years. I called them this past weekend and got the on call guy who also tried selling me a new system over the phone, without even knowing what was going on. I will never call them again. As luck would have it, McAfee serviced my AC before with the prior owner, so there was a phone number and coupons on the furnace. I called them, and they had a tech out the same day. He listened to my problems, concerns, and gave me all my options. He was very descriptive with what would do what, and most importantly, he was honest. Their prices were a lot lower than the other place as well. There's nothing scarier than having something go wrong with something you don't know a lot about, and worrying about a company knowing that most people are that way, and taking advantage of that. Grandparents AC went out and they called them. Tech (Rick) came out and said mainboard was bad due to water intrusion and stated a new mainboard would cost $800. He said he would have to order it. He also cut wires/wire nutted them together and changed hook up so fan and AC ran all the time. I am AC universal certified but was at work so I recommended them. After I found out, I spent 5 minutes on line and found a new mainboard for 78$ plus shipping. Received it, installed it and corrected the boogered wiring and all is good now. So if he didn't come back and they called someone else, they would have to pay to have mainboard replaced and wiring straightened out....I believe in profit and mark ups but not $720. Also, didn't have to cut wires, could have just jumpered them. Never again!!!!!!! read more

On 28 May 2020 I called McAfee today to repair my AC. They responded quickly but first wanted approximately $90.00 just to show up. I agreed to this service charge. I explained the situation and that I am recovering from cancer surgery, my wife and I have heart issues and that we desperately need the AC fixed. The repairman spent approximately 15 minutes said that the unit needs 3 lbs of freon and that he wants to put in dye to identify the leak location. He quoted their flat rate price would be $600 plus the $90 service charge and that price does not include any other additional repairs. Just had to completely replace a furnace I bought from them that was only six years old. It was "condemned" by their service guy. From the minute it was installed it had problems. We chose McAfee to install a new furnace after one of their techs told us that our old furnace was unsafe and had to be shut down and replaced. Since the installation two months ago, we're now on our third problem. First, they installed a thermostat that clicked so loudly, it kept me awake at night since it was located just outside the bedroom. I called to have a technician check it out, and he told me, "You'll get used to it. My wife did." No, no I won't. I had to tell him to put the old SILENT thermostat back on, which he did unhappily. He also failed to tell me when he was on his way, so he had to wait 15 minutes for me to come home to let him in. When the office called him on his cell to ask why he was running late, he blamed me and said I was late. No, I was not. I would have met him at the door had he called ahead like he was supposed to. Next, they had drained the Freon out of the air conditioner coils when they replaced them, and they didn't put any back in. So on the first 85-degree day after the install, our air conditioning didn't work. And it was a Sunday, so we couldn't get anyone out to fix it until AT LEAST the next day unless we wanted to pay the after-hours fee. Now, about two months after install furnace won't kick on at all. Once again, it's a Sunday, it's 80 degrees, and it won't work. The heat won't kick on, so I know it's the furnace and not the air conditioner. I will never, ever recommend McAfee to anyone. Ever. This has been the biggest mistake we have ever made. I also really question if anything was even wrong with our old furnace after reading some other customer reviews. Sounds like we were duped, twice. On a side note, my mother-in-law had recommended them to someone after we used them (before the problems), and the technician was so rude to her friend that she told the technician to leave her house. So if you want bad service and a bad product, by all means, use McAfee. read more
