The staff was very knowledgeable and were able to answer any questions that I had about the fish and the live plants that they sell. They offer water testing for your tank water for $5 and if the levels are off they have water treatments that they can recommend for you to use. They make sure that you don't get any fish that won't live well together. We changed our mind about one of the fish that we were going to get and the lady who was helping us did not seem to mind at all. They are also very kid friendly. I brought both of my kids with me and the lady helping us told me that she loved working on the weekends because she liked it when families with kids would come in. What can we say about this place. I think the selection is decent, it's a big place- but the actual equipment is unsafe for some of the animals. A lot of fin rot. . . Stressed out. You should definitely be prepared to quarantine any fish from here. A couple of the employees are sweet, really excellent service- until you get up front- the owner? Big loud angry guy runs people off white his really crappy attitude. Argues with customers, belittles staff in front of people. Never misses an opportunity to say something crappy. And NO MASKS. Best place to buy angel fish. Beautiful selection of freshwater fish you can't normally find. Worth a little drive. Got my new filter there and the guy helped me choose and the filter has lasted over a year now with no problems. Also- this place will test your water and tell you exactly what you need if you bring them a sample if you are having ANY problems, which is amazing. I got an angel at another chain store and it demolished my tank with a virus, I was able to clean and restock thanks to fish r us and my new angel survived Hurricane Harvey flooding it's house and living in a bucket, very strong fish, and is still ruling the tank today. Rude and Arrogant!!! The owner is not as knowledgeable as he thinks he is. The first person I spoke with was a woman who helped me to identify the fish I wanted. When I started to research the fish's needs she seemed to be offended as she stated that I could ask her, "that is what we are here for." and it was not said in a friendly helpful way. I began explaining my current tank set up and explained I was moving up to a 75 gallon tank. The owner was there, asked me how old the 20 gallon was and then stated that I could use the water from my current 20 gallon to cycle the 75 gallon and transfer my current fish immediately. I stepped out to research the fish, was reluctant to return to engage with either him or the woman, so determined I would buy my fish elsewhere and never return. The one star Fish R Us is receiving is for the wonderful young lady that helped me on the 19th. I would give her 5 stars. She was friendly, seemed to really care about the fish, and exchanged knowledge with me in a enjoyable interchange. She did not have what I was looking for at that time, but because I appreciated her time and patience I bought 5 ember tetras from her, that I totally did not need at that time (I planned on purchasing them once my 75 gallon was set up). This is the first time I have experienced such a response to my researching fish, or sharing that I have a self-sustained system. Over the past year I have visited several fish stores and at each the employees have shared their knowledge and have then engaged in the information I have discovered as I researched the fish; no one has ever seemed offended. I have found that the responses I receive when I have shared that I have a successful self-sustained ecosystem has ranged from "Cool" to interested questions. I walked in this shop with my mother (a biologist) and we immediately walked out. If you're buying your fish here, you're probably poorly educated about aquatics. These fish are overpriced, and kept in horrible conditions. There were literally 4 or 5 tanks side-by-side selling fish infested with fin-rot. Most of the fish do not have gravel in their tanks, and some tanks were so cloudy that you couldn't see the fish. Save your time and go someplace else. read more

I went in to this store to do research on new fish and was fed so much misinformation. The employees are at best ignorant and lack knowledge of their own stock, and at worst, lying to you to get your money. I was sold two green spotted puffers as full fresh water, which turns out should be in brackish or salt water. Of course one died within days of adding to my tank. The store has a strict no returns on livestock, so I'm out the cost because of their negligence and lack of knowledge of their own stock. They refuse to work with you or own up to their own mistake. I bought a Naso Tang and bicolor angel and both of them died. I decided to try again (thinking those fish just had a problem) and bought a powder brown tang. He seemed okay for two days but he wasn't eating. I acclimated him, and my water tested fine, so there shouldn't have been a problem. On the third day I found him dead. Long story short he had ick and has almost wiped out my entire tank. I lost 2 clowns, a neon dottyback, yellow tang, and a green mandarin goby. Currently, my scopas tang doesn't look like he's gonna make it and my foxface is still covered in spots even though I've been treating the tank. They're extremely overpriced, and I always felt like I was being watched and rushed by the staff. Not a very welcoming or professional environment. read more

Done with this store. Here is a recap of my last transaction: Saturday: Purchased blue spotted puffer, it was my first ever puffer and got all the info from online and from in store. They advised that he was eating great on Mysis shrimp. Saturday and Sunday he did not eat the frozen mysis I dropped in and did not eat the pellets. Monday I contacted the store and they suggested I purchase a different brand of mysis and see if that would help. Purchased Marine Cuisine, Bloodworms, and Carnivore something or other from the frozen section. Tues, Wed I tried spot feeding it with a turkey baster with all of the above food choices. He wouldn't eat. Thursday I called the store again and they said that I needed to come in and purchase Krill and Oyster on the half shell. Done.....he ate none of it even when spot feeding him. Friday I researched online and seen they might eat feeder guppies or ghost shimp. Purchased, wouldn't eat just stared at it and played with it. He now began lying down on the rocks and his tummy was sunk in. Called store back. They said I needed to place him in sump because other fish were intimidating it....... Did it anyways and tried to feed....didn't eat. Saturday....dead. I called the store and was told over the phone that I needed to bring in a water sample and the fish. I drove an hour to the store. They checked the water and advised it was slightly high on salinity, but I looked it up online and it was nothing to worry about. I was then told that they do not provide any type of discount or credit towards a new fish. I drove an hour up there after following all instructions and they couldn't even provide a credit towards a new fish. Why did I even waste my time getting out of the house? I know my water is fine, I don't need someone else to test it with the same test I have at the house. To say the least, that will be my last visit to this store. I am furious with this company and do not recommend them. read more

My wife and I are setting up our first saltwater aquarium together and decided to come here because it was the closest to our home. First impression was not great. It smells like wet dog and is kind of dark. After walking through the store, we did not see a wide selection and of what we did see did not look well cared for. We met the owner and he was rude as all get out. We wanted to spend money and invest in a whole new setup with fish and all but he couldn't be bothered. Wouldn't make eye contact with me while I asked some beginner questions. Sorry guy for bothering you. Pfft! So, we took our business to "That Aquarium Place" off of Stuebner Airline. Best decision! We will make the extra 45 min drive or so just so we don't have to go to Fush R Us again. Don't waste your time. The owner doesn't seem to care about helping his customers anyway. read more

They did take me a hour before opening, which was nice. But I bought about 17 fish from them in a 3 month period and I have 3 left. They just slowly died, about one every 2-3 days. I had my tank water tested and it was fine. I just bought fish from Petsmart and they are still kicking 3 days later. ALL OF THEM. So I know my tank water is fine. This place. The only saving grace about this place is Dean and the lovely lady who works there. Both are very nice and helpful. As for the other guy (manager, owner?) he is horrible. Nothing but attitude and throwing fits, tossing things around, slamming doors closed. The lady even had to walk away from him because he was being so unprofessional. The place is overstocked and a lot of the fish don't look well cared for. The display tanks look lively, but aside from that, everyone looks so miserable.
