What a lucky find! We just stopped at the hotel across the street and were looking for some healthy, interesting food. Yelp led us to the right place again. This is a clean, friendly place with excellent service. We had a chicken appetizer, and my wife had a chicken and rice dinner that was delicious. I had seafood ceviche that was the best I've ever had. All the appropriate accompaniments were there and everything tasted very fresh. There were several Peruvian families in the restaurant which I think is a good sign that this is authentic food. Great job, and I will make it a point to come back. read more

Hmmm maybe I didn't order the right things? Maybe the reviews are for a different menu? I will actually say that the food quality is probably a 3, but the pricing/value is a 2. I'll be generous with my rating then and give them a 3 only cause the waitress was really nice. I got the steak with fries and rice (lomo Saltado). There were about 5-6 very small pieces of meat. The rest was onions, French fries and a large scoop of rice. The sauce was good though slightly too salty for me. I think if you soaked up the sauce with the fries and rice it probably would have been good. The flavor of the meat was pretty good though for $15 in a strip mall I would hope there was slightly more of it and less filler. I was still hungry after having two bites of rice and half the French fries so I ordered the chicken stuffed avocado. The avocado sits on a small thing of maybe mashed potatoes or some starch that is purple. There is a kalamata drizzle on the plate. A little of that goes a loooooong way. The avocado, well, how can you go wrong with an avocado. The chicken though was measly. I tasted more mayonnaise than chicken. Actually I didn't taste the chicken at all and had I not ordered it myself i probably wouldn't have been able to guess at the contents. For $9 I would go to the store and make 5 of these...with less mayo, or whatever that stuff was. I was underwhelmed though maybe my expectations were set too high with the rating. read more

I weep inside when I reflect back on Mayta's and wish there was one in Charleston, SC (or any Peruvian place!) . Peruvian is one of my favorite cuisines and I ate a lot of it when I lived in NY and dated a Peruvian (which totally helps navigate another country's cuisine and the sole reason I dated him anyway). My family and I were in this town for a wedding, and enjoyed our dinner at Mayta's so much we went back for a second time before leaving and knowing it'd probably be another decade before we get to enjoy such food again -_-. Both times we went to Mayta's, our service was attentive, friendly, and answered questions and gave recommendations really well. The waitress recommended the Lomo saltado to my uncle who is a real all-American steak and potatoes kinda guy and never veers too far out of his comfort zone. Lomo Salgado is a Peruvian steak, even that seemed to exotic for my uncle, but after us convincing him to try it- he loved it! I tried a few different things, what I came for was the ceviche mixto. (Seafood that is marinated in citrus juice). You just never know trying that at a new place if it will be how you remember, if it will be too bland, and if the fish will be fresh and whatnot- I have so many worries! Well I was super pleased. I also had the crab meat stuffed avocado salad, awesome! I love the creamy sauce it came with. There were a lot of creams/sauces with everyone's meals, even 3 separate ones we got as a table. I forgot what they all were, but they are soo good. I tried the sauces with my fries and a little bit with everything. The roasterd corn kernels were really popular in my family, yes it's one of my favorite things! I also love Peruvian potatos and olives. If you try Peruvian food for the first time, you will notice a difference in these ingredients vs American. Peruvian food has bright flavors, colors, and textures, this is what really appeals to me. read more

Food was FIVE stars. Just exceptional chow. Had the stuffed avacado with crab meat. It was amazing. We also had the sampler of the skewered meat The worst part of the whole experience was service. We came in at about 430. Our food cane out quick and that was the last time we saw our server. Drinks were never refilled. Went for lunch and had Arroz Chaufa de Carne, which was just delicious...Not that I'm a connoisseur of Peruvian cuisine, but the presentation was beautiful and I've never had a better example of this dish. The staff were exceedingly friendly and went out of their way to suggest I take a bigger table (it was just me and my laptop; normally not a restaurant's favorite type of customer) and set me up with WiFi access while I waited for my lunch. Amazing! Can I give more than five stars? Visited today for the first time with my family of four. We tried two appetizers (pork ribs and beef empanadas), two sides (yuca and plantains), and a few entrees (seca de res, beef skewers, and chicken quinoa). They were all terrific. Everything was beautifully plated and and tasted very fresh. There was not the slightest fault in any part of any of the food. I've tried China Chilcano, a Jose Andres Peruvian restaurant in DC, and it can't hold a candle to this place. The portions for the yuca and plantains were huge for the price. The empanadas were not packed with filling, but what they did have was spectacular and ever so fresh. The pork ribs were delightfully crispy with a tasty sauce, served on a pile of yuca, and came with a fantastic garnish of salad. The table sauces were all delicious. The seca de res was incredibly tender and flavorful. My wife loved her chicken quinoa salad. The steak in the beef skewers was marinated, grilled to perfection, and paired beautifully with the sauces. Just to top everything off, the service was great too. This was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time and can't wait to go back. What a great addition to the area! read more

I took my friends to this restaurant and they loved it. The first thing I had when I tried this place was the lomo saltado which was very good, a lot of juice to it. Then the times I've gone back I've always had the lunch special which has a three course meals. The tres leches cake is good! I always enjoy the complimentary soup they give you when you arrive. I would also recommend the ceviche, the chorizo, and chicha morada. I haven't tried everything on the menu but I will soon. read more

Food was pretty delicious. Service was friendly. The only issue that kinda knocked off 1-2 stars was that my grilled octopus tentacles had a ton of sand stuck in the suckers. And there's not many things as texturally unpleasing as the feeling of a hefty dose of sand grinding between your teeth. Please rinse those suckers more carefully! I'm thinking of trying the place again (avoiding the octopus) and trying the tiraditos instead, which I didn't notice until after I had already ordered. read more

This is the first restaurant since COVI-19. We ate outside and had an amazing meal. The food was served in take out form due to COVI-19 but honestly it didn't matter whether it was a plate or take out. It was SO good. The staff was so nice. Food took a bit longer but the great music and being outside made the time fly by. Next time I am in Frederick I will make it a point to come to this place again. I recommend that you stop by too. As far as restaurants in the Frederick, this is definitely in our top three. Everything we tried from the appetizer sampler and the main dishes is just amazing. I love their sauces which comes in three. My favorite is the yellow sauce. Service is great and we can't wait come back and try out more of their dishes. Best Peruvian I've ever been to hands down. Had lunch at this fabulous Restaurant today and was super impressed! The Menu is extensive but also carefully edited, featuring 2-3 interesting specialties from different categories. Hot, Cold, Seafood, Ceviche and "Peruvian Street Food". Our server recommended a spicy chicken dish with cream sauce which was fantastic. My lunch companion had a Peruvian Wok dish on a bed of savory rice which got high marks from him. We closed with Dessert- Flan & Tres Leches and both were excellent. I just had a near-perfect meal at this place. I opted for the $15 lunch special where you pick an appetizer, main course, and a dessert. I had the ceviche, pescado encebollado, and the flan. The ceviche had many pieces of fish. It was much better than other restaurants where the ceviche is so expensive and you only get a few pieces of fish and mostly vegetables. I kept finding additional pieces when I searched with my fork. The sauce in the pescado encebollado was amazing. I can't even begin to figure out what the ingredients were, but it was perfect. It is a little spicy so be careful. Lastly, the flan was scrumptious. A little small, but that is not a complaint. Lastly, they offer mainstream domestic beers, but was happy to see that they carry local Flying Dog here. read more

It's a new place and it will become the spot for Peruvian food. Wow! Everything we ordered was delicious. The Papas huancaina have the right amount of kick to it. The onions that comes on the plate could use more lime on it, but that depends on preference as well. The lomo saltado was delicious as well. The sauce that they make is very flavorful! I ordered the pollo a la parrilla, which is not just a dry weird looking chicken breast... the way they make it is the actual chicken breast with the skin and extremely juicy. Highly recommend it. I ordered eggs on top. The empanadas are amazingggg, I could eat 10 of those. They are little though, but very well presented. If you don't like spicy food, make sure to tell them to not add the sauce on the plate. And Noooooo, I'm not going to eat 10 of them ;-) Dessert... Tamtamtam... Flan is creamy and tasty. For coffee, I would say go somewhere else for coffee, unless you like just black coffee with milk. They did bring out the milk in this cute little milk pourer. The waitress is new and she's still in the learning process, but she is a sweetheart. Enjoy your meal and go taste the flavor of Peru in this restaurant. You won't regret it. Mayta's has been a favorite of our family pretty much since it opened. Had dinner there (again) this past Friday. We started with the brussels sprouts and chorizo empanadas from the specials menu. I went with the Mayta's cerviche for dinner while my husband got the pork chop special. My daughter got one of her favorites, the tallarin saltado de carne. As usual, everything was gorgeously presented and delicious. (Only wish I had taken more pictures.) Service was efficient and as usual, Chef Jorge took the time to come out and greet his guests and to make sure everything is o.k. We had Jorge Velasquez cater my son's wedding of over 100 people in June. We ordered ceviche, empanadas, roast chicken, Lomo Saltado, plantains, and Yucca. Jorge was a pleasure to work with. He came, set up, and served the food with one other employee. The food was outstanding and very affordable. Let me add that the bride is from Peru and many of the guests were Peruvian. They found the food homemade and very authentic. The Peruvians especially liked the Ceviche Mixto. They said it was the best they had ever had. Fantastic service and food! Very friendly staff and the food was wonderful. We started with the mussels which were very good. I ordered one of the specials; hand deboned 1/2 chicken cooked in Peruvian spices with white rice and canary beans. It was a large portion and very tasty! My girlfriend ordered the carne skewer which came with sweet potato and Peruvian Corn. The corn kernels were massive and had more of a taste of bean than corn; interesting. The sweet potato was red and very sweet - great flavor! We're definitely coming back and recommending that our friends check it out too! read more

I have been here multiple times and I cannot day enough amazing things about this place. The food is absolutely outstanding and fresh! The service and hospitality is that of a true Latin American culture! The chef/owner comes out and speaks with every table to ensure that every guest is having an enjoyable experience which I think speaks volumes. All servers are super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Like I said the food is super fresh, you can taste it within the food. It doesn't taste frozen or processed like a lot of these other places. Ordered Ceviche which was delicious and well presented, balance on acidity was fantastic -- might have preferred snapper or another fish rather than tilapia. Great new spot with a friendly staff. Complimentary seafood soup was great while the rest of my party had the beef soup , which was said to be a bit on the salty side. My second meal in one day in this area and it didn't disappoint! To start, the chef sent out a small bowl of soup on the house which was heavenly on this cold and rainy night. I ordered the octopus skewer appetizer special, fish ceviche, and yucca fries. Everything was delicious! The octopus was grilled perfectly. The ceviche was full of flavor and the yucca was done just right and served with three yummy sauces. I had the Chilicano drink with everything which was refreshing and went perfectly with my food.
