Small but intimate. Delicious smell of thai food as soon as you walk in. Curry was delicious. The papaya salad was a disappointment because it was soaked in dressing - too wet and just plopped on a plate. The papaya itself was good though. Rather expensive. read more

I came here with my group of 4 on a Thursday night with a reservation but there was no need b/c all the tables were available. Great, speedy service but the food was pretty interesting. I don't think I had this kind of Thai food before so make sure to read the descriptions! My dish (in the photo) looked plain, but had kicks of spices. But the spice taste really gets to you with each bite, and it kind of gets hard to eat. Not because it's spicy, but it's just A LOT to take in. A bit salty too? Great drinks though! read more

This small but mighty southern Thai restaurant adds flavor to the East Village. The service at MayRee was extremely attentive and the items ordered were prepared quickly. The table ordered the following: Bacon Hor Nam (GF) Somtum (GF) Sweet and spicy fried fish (Branzino) Pad Thai Hor Khai My favorite dish was the sweet & spicy fried fish. The fish was fresh, thick, well seasoned, crispy, and HOT (right from the fryer). If you're a meat lover the Bacon Hor Nam might be something you enjoy. I wish the bacon was a bit crispier. The table decided on red & white wine, and we tried the Thai moonshine (strong!). I'm interested in trying more items from the menu. The restaurant itself has rich & cozy decor. A lot of thought went into the silverware, glasses, wall art, the bar area, and more. Mayree does not accept reservations and is a small space so I would advise visiting during off peak hours. this is like a freaking tradition. like we go every week to east village and get thai food like bro this is so funny. but it's good thai food so i am not going to complain. i got pad thai but like it was wrapped with egg so it's not technically just regular pad thai. but it was fire. it wasn't as flavorful the goat pad thai but this was still good. i think i need to stop getting pad thai elsewhere like no where is gonna top thai way omg. so i'll start trying more ethnic thai food i guesssss. 4 stars! read more

Short review: Very good Southern Thai. Would recommend the Kua Kling/southern dry curry the most along with the Yum Hua Plee/banana blossom salad but everything was good. Perhaps would get duck elsewhere. Good cocktail selection. A bit drafty in front. I went to this newcomer Thai spot a while back (overdue review) with one of my usual groups after he had found glowing reviews and I agree with most of them. As someone who usually prefers northern Thai food, the southern stuff here is excellent. We had a mix of dishes. They have a mix of unique cocktails and I went with the Saowarat with whiskey, green tea syrup, honey syrup, lemon juice, and pineapple juice. Very nice cocktail which was strong but had a good balance from the rest of the ingredients. The rest who had drinks loved their cocktails as well. Our first dish that arrived was the Puek Tod for $13 which consisted of Taro cakes with radish, coconut, and peanut topped with fried garlic and served with house made sweet chili sauce. Nice texture for the taro cakes. Not overly fried and satisfying. Soon arriving was one of the best dishes of the night, the Yum Hua Plee for $16. This was a banana blossom salad with shrimp, ground pork, coconut milk, lime juice, fish sauce and roasted chili paste topped with fried green onion and mint. Similar to a laarb in terms of the toppings but I preferred the texture heavily from the banana blossoms. Very good stuff. The Kua (or Khua) Kling consisting of a southern style roasted curry with ground pork, kaffir lime leaf and Thai chili served with jasmine rice and fried egg for $19 was my favorite of the main dishes and this might have been the best version I have had. Terrifically spiced with a perfect amount of kaffir lime to balance out the heavy heat. Would recommend heavily. Also good was the Roti Nam Kean for $21 consisting of southern Thai style pan fried roti with massaman curry made with potato, white onion, peanut, coconut milk topped with fried shallot. We got it with chicken and it was great. The massaman wasn't as overly sweet as other spots which is quite a good thing. I would only complain that I think there should have been more of the roti. The Kra Prow (or Phat kaphrao) for $19 consisting of ground pork or ground chicken sautéed with basil, fresh chili pepper, garlic and onion in spicy basil sauce, served with jasmine fried rice and fried egg was quite good. We got ground pork and it was very nicely spiced with a good amount of basil. The fried egg had a better texture than most Thai spots and mixed in well with the rest of the ingredients. Our other main was the Kaeng Phed Ped for $27 which was a roast duck curry with pineapple, tomato, chili paste and coconut milk, served with jasmine rice. This was more on the sweet end with the pineapple almost reminding me of jackfruit which how sweet it was. Solid dish though I have preferred the duck at other Thai spots and it was probably the weakest of the dishes. Consistent excellent Thai dishes. Would prefer larger portions overall but the flavors are outstanding. My only complaint otherwise is that the front was very drafty. Mid 4. read more

This review is way overdue, but is definitely needed because it doesn't seem like people are aware of just how GOOD the food is here! My partner and I visited the second or third day they opened, and honestly, we weren't expecting much. We previewed the online menu beforehand and the menu did seem interesting (and most importantly, different from the everyday Thai restaurants in NYC) so we ultimately decided to give it a go. And I'm so glad we did! We ordered two appetizers and two mains, which doesn't seem like too much for two people who eat a LOT. The appetizers we ordered were the papaya salad (somtum) and deep-fried shimeji mushrooms (hed tod). A word of caution, though, do not order the papaya salad if you canNOT handle the heat because this is authentically spiced! I was eating away at it because it was seasoned very nicely (and I still didn't come across a chili yet) and laughed at my partner because he turned steaming red from eating one. Minutes later, I ended up having a piece myself and it was NOT fun. But it was very delicious, still. The shimeji mushrooms I enjoyed a lot. My partner isn't crazy about fried foods, but even he gave it an approving nod. For mains we ordered the Pad Mee Kati and the Kao Mok Gai. Hands DOWN, our favorite was the Pad Mee Kati. We've just never had anything like it before and it blew our minds. The vermicelli noodles were SOAKED with coconut milk and gave it a deliciously ~moist~ and nutty taste. I'm drooling just thinking about it now. And the LUMPS of crab meat were fantastic. Many restaurants skimp on the amount of crab meat in their dishes, but Mayree does not shy away from it. The Kao Mok Gai was also tasty in its own way. The chicken was tender and juicy and the rice was extremely fragrant! We didn't get to try their brunch menu yet, but we're sure it would also be delicious! Can't wait to try their other dishes. read more

Overall delicious - I wish I had tried a cocktail! We were the first guests at 7:00 on a Thursday but the restaurant started filling up soon after. We started with the deep fried mushroom appetizer which was just okay, it was enoki mushroom in batter and fried with a pretty generic sweet sauce. We actually didn't finish this because it started to just taste like fried batter. The crab fried rice and duck curry were 10/10! The chunks of crab was a super decent portion and I preferred this out of the two. The duck curry had a good amount of sliced duck and curry was creamy and delicious, not to coconutty. I would've got more rice to eat it with if I wasn't already kinda full from the crab fried rice. We also got a beer and wine, and the total came to about $100 for 2 people, not bad. I found the coziest Thai Restaurant in East Village When it's cold.. I tend to opt for hot and hearty meals and that's exactly what @mayreenyc has given me. I went on a snow day and it was exactly what I needed to warm me up before braving the cold once more. This intimate spot provides delicious Thai food, tasty cocktails and amazing service. The staff was friendly and everything came out hot and fresh. My friend had the pineapple fried rice while I opted for soup which came in a huge dish that was perfect for sharing. Today I decided to stop by here since I needed some place with outdoor dining, this place was on my to try list since it opened not long ago. I ordered Khao Man Gai and Papaya Salad. Kao man gai- chicken was tender and juicy, the rice could use more ginger flavor, did not taste much. But the chicken was good. Papaya salad- sweet, fresh, tasty, very good heat. Definitely the winner. Service: the service is very good. She even gave water to my dog which i thought was a nice gesture. Found a small Thai restaurant in East Village. It only fit around 10 tables, so if you come in a larger group be sure to make reservations or to call ahead. Overall - food is pretty great. They took traditional Thai dishes and made it slightly more nuanced (not necessarily fusion nor Americanized, not sure how to describe it). Loved the tempura mushroom and fried chicken. The skin was perfectly crispy and flavored. Drinks were slightly more pricey (Thai iced tea for $5, mocktails for $8, cocktails for $18++). I enjoyed my time here. It is a very intimate restaurant - approximately 6 tables or 25-30 seats in total. Clearly the door is very central to the space so can get drafty if seated by door. They do their best to keep it out with a thick curtain which is thoughtful. It's definitely a step up from the usual takeout Thai spot as the options are more eccentric. I loved reading about the chef and the genesis of the restraints name on the website. The chef comes from a three-generation family of restauranteurs which is fascinating. The dishes are well-made and tasty. The roti was the favorite tonight! It's warm, crispy, and starchy, making it the perfect base to soak up the creamy curry. The curry was a bit salty at first taste but mellowed out over time. Only two roti unfortunately - one too few to finish the curry but you can order a side of one for $4. We had the fried chicken entree (gai tod), fried mushrooms (hed tod) and the banana blossom salad (recommended by our server). All three were enjoyable. I think the first two are very "safe" options haha it's fried food and straightforward - can't really go wrong! The salad was more of a unique regional dish with fish sauce, coconut milk etc. It was good but a bit heavy as a salad for me. All in all, I really enjoyed the meal. Outstanding Thai ! In fact , I'll go as far as the best sit down Thai restaurant I've been to in NYC so far. It's a beautifully decorated place with outside seating. It's good for any occasion. Music was cool and the perfect level. Full bar ! And a nice bar area to boot. Check out the drink menu! I got 2 drinks and both were good. The menu is different from most Thai places I've been to. The ubiquitous chicken satay is missing from Mayree's as well as the pick your curry and protein option. Instead , they seem to have a curated menu based on what they cook best. And you'll love it all I bet. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to truly enjoy their meals. I got the chicken soup. Don't let that price of 15-16 dollars scare you away. This is one big bowl that's jammed packed with veggies and chicken ! Oh and the taste , Devine. Sour and vegetal from the lemongrass and slight spice from the ginger all cooked in a tasty and potent chicken stock. I had to get my peanut fix in the description of the peanut dumplings sounded great. Wow! Try these. Very good Thai food! I got the Prysob cocktail and it was very delicious with a bit of fancy gold leaf. I also tried the Tom Yum soup and the Roti Nam Keang and they were very flavorful with great depth of flavor. Highly recommend trying this place out! read more

Be careful if you have food allergies. I visited on Tuesday evening and there was one thing that really threw me off. I ordered tom yum soup and asked for no cilantro but my food came with cilantro sprinkled on top. So I asked my server before touching it, and she said "that's scallion" without even trying to look closer. It really looked like cilantro to me, but I tried it anyways and yes it was cilantro. I just really really hate cilantro to the extent I literally can't enjoy anything with it, but thankfully I am not allergic. But this is really dangerous if for example, somebody has nuts allergy and asked for no peanuts and the server didn't care to double check with the kitchen. So if you have any food allergy, be careful with this place. Also heads-up their tip is calculated AFTER tax, so you'd really be paying like 25% minimum if you don't do custom tip. read more
