We started with the roti mataba and gai gor lae -- both excellent openers. The roti was flaky and satisfying, and the gai gor lae delivered rich, spiced flavor that set the tone for the rest of the meal. For soups, the gai tom kamin was especially comforting, warming without being heavy. For mains, the pad kee mao with beef had good heat and depth, and the khao nar ped stood out with its layers of flavor and rich peanut sauce. One of the highlights of the meal was the paga, which really showcased the kitchen's ability to deliver bold Southern Thai flavors without feeling overwhelming. This place was great! Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was comfortable with some decent mellow music playing in the background. We arrive around 9pm and the place wasn't super crowded but all the chairs seemed to be filled. The place seats I would say around 40-50 people. Reservation aren't needed if your party is less than 6. We wanted to try a mix of everything. We started with the spring rolls and the Gai Tod Hat Yai fried chicken wings. The spring rolls were good but mid at best. The Gai Tod wings were extremely good! I highly recommend. Our main dishes were the Tom Yum Goong soup, the Kaeng Phed Ped soup and the Pad Thai Hor Khai noodles. The Tom Yum soup was really good but the bowl that they serve it in is a little uncomfortable to try and scoop from when the soup is getting towards the end. It also takes a lot of space on the table. The Kaeng Phed Ped was really good! Very flavorful and the duck was very soft and not chewy which scares a lot of people away from eating or ordering duck at times. It comes with a side of rice. The Pad Thai Hor Khai noodles were slamming! It comes wrapped around in an egg and on the dish they give you crushed peanuts and sprouts to put on it. Very delicious. We got two different drinks and a beer to go with our meal. The Badura drink and the Malai. Both decent. The Malai didn't have a lot of Alcohol to me but that might be a matter of preference. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night with a party of 4 at 730. The restaurant was crowded but we were able to get a table within 15 minutes! We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that they have a happy hour that ends at 8 pm with drinks discounted as well as discount on edamame and spring rolls (we got the rolls and they were great!) Super cute vibey ambiance. Service was quick and food came out super fast. This was one of the best Thai spots we've had in the city with great prices. A really solid Thai place in the East Village that I can see myself going back to many times. MayRee seems to focus on southern Thai food and brings on some great Thai flavors. We had the Tom Yum Goong which was delicious, one of the better iterations I've had, and the Roti Nam Kaeng which featured a rich roti and tasty curry. I am so hungry looking back at the photos I took of my meal here, particularly the fried quail egg appetizer. A quail egg on a menu hates to see me coming, because I'll be ordering it. I also devoured their peanut dumplings with blue pea flower to give the dumpling skin a vibrant blue color. What they say about color affecting how the food tastes is embodied in this dish. The rest of my order was pretty standard, and included somtum (papaya salad), roti with curry sauce, pad thai, and calamari. All were prepared quickly and with aplomb. My main complaint is that the place looks really dated, and they just had the door open with no air conditioning the summer night I was there, which invited lots of mosquitoes. That plus the wet rag smell in the dining area did not make for the best dining experience. I'd recommend taking your food to go instead. read more

On a hot humid Sunday at 1:30pm, we walked into the restaurant and were the only diners there. The place was cozy with plants and intricate Thai decors. We ordered: - Somtum Papaya salad: can't go wrong with this classic, though the fish sauce is a tad more pungent compared to other papaya salads I've had - Kaeng Phed Ped (roasted duck curry): The duck was tender, and the curry had a sweet and tangy flavor from the pineapple & lychee. - Pad Mee Kati (vermicelli noodle w/ crab meat): Solid choice. The flavor on the noodles were on the milder side, so it was a good balance. It came with egg noodles, bean sprouts, and dried chili pepper on the side, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to mix it in or it just could've been cooked together instead being placed on the side - Mango Sticky Rice: 5/5! the mango was perfectly ripe and sweet, paired with the slightly salted sticky rice and coconut sauce on the side. It quickly became our favorite dish of the night. The chewy dumpling skin encased a peanut filling that was crunchy, sweet and savory. The dumplings were also beautifully presented in shades of blue and white. ＊Somtum $16 My all-time favorite thai appetizer. Crunchy, tangy and refreshing. Be warned--they really mean it when they say "medium spicy".   ＊Kaeng Phed Ped $31** We've had crispy duck curry at several Thai spots, and this one served the most tender duck by far. Mayree is an incredible east village destination! This warm and cozy Thai restaurant boasts friendly staff, phenomenal cocktails, and delicious food! It was an amazing experience from the moment I walked in. Some of the highlights of this visit were the roti nam keang, the park mor, and the benjawan cocktail. No wait on a Saturday night which was great! Located on a side street, the inside of the restaurant was super clean and well decorated. The service was fast and the servers were attentive, constantly refilling our waters and asking if we needed anything. The food itself was great! Absolutely phenomenal. I've never had food quite like this--so flavorful, and so fairly priced. Everything was served fresh, and you could tell there was real care in the preparation. We ordered a variety of dishes. The lychee juice was a standout--perfectly sweet with a subtle kick of spice that made it truly unique. The Thai iced tea was rich and bold--slightly strong for my taste, but the staff kindly brought me extra milk without hesitation. They were incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout our meal. For mains, we had: Crab Fried Rice: Tender crab meat, though the dish overall was just okay for me personally. Jon Rang: A green Thai curry with shrimp that had a hint of sweetness. I loved this one--it was spicy, rich, and served with rice and vegetables. Roti Nam Keang: Absolutely mind-blowing. Oh yeah. This is a great place to enjoy lunch. There were 6 of us and we chose to dine in. It was one of those incredibly hot days that we had in early August and just coming inside to some air conditioning felt good. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's situated on a small street just north of Houston. The street is quiet and the ambience both for inside and outside dining is really comfortable. This Thai restaurant serves food that is more interesting than most. We started with Edamame that was somewhat spicy. So good. We also had the Spring Rolls, they were delicious. Between the 6 of us we had a bunch of dishes, the stand out ones for me were Grilled Shrimp Mango, Curry Noodle and Kee Mao Talay. For dessert we enjoyed the the Mango Sticky rice. Came here with a party of 10 for a friend's birthday and was disappointed how tightly packed they had us all sitting together. Granted this restaurant is small but ideally, I wouldn't recommend this place especially if your planning to dine with 4 plus people. If anything, this restaurant should have rejected the reservation considering the number of people it was booked for. As for the restaurant, it was super dim. It created a dark ambiance but so dark that it was kinda hard to see my food properly and to know exactly what I was eating. I ended up ordering their lump crab coconut curry over vermicelli. When the order arrived, it was a complete disappointing. My dish was overly salted that it over powered all of the other natural flavor of the curry. The curry itself was watery too instead of having a creamy consistency. They only gave a small portion of vermicelli and the side salad was pretty much cut up cabbage, carrots and bean sprouts. The side salad reminded me of those cheap mesclun salad that I would see restaurants using as a filler for dishes to make it look more like a full meal. Overall I was disappointed with my dish and and dining experience. It left me feeling uninspired to return to the restaurant to try their other dishes or to even recommend this place to other people. read more

Don't expect neighborhood Thai restaurant prices, however - it's a little more expensive here, around $30 per entree, give or take. Service was excellent, but I do wish they'd fix the door situation - it stays open when guests leave, and in these colder months the whole restaurant loses temperature very fast because it's not that big of a room. But the upside of that is the restaurant wasn't too crowded or loud! It is a relatively smaller space though, more suitable for smaller parties of 2 or 4. I got the Kaeng Phed Ped (duck curry) and it was quite delicious! The duck was actually very crispy and tender and didn't feel oily. The curry itself was also good, salty and just a little bit spicy. There were also a lot of fresh veggies (bell peppers) and fruits (lychee + pineapple) that cut through the saltiness that I enjoyed. I really enjoyed my experience and would definitely come back.
