Nestled in the heart of the Lower East side and at the intersection of Clinton and Rivington St we find this wonderful establishment. My friends (Thaifood lovers) decided that night that Thailicious would be our spot for the evening. And boy did they deliver... We took our seats and basked in the ambiance of the white brick walls and wooden tables. Finally comfortable, our waitress took our order we unanimously decided on curry for our supper. I ordered the Beef Massaman Curry. The flavor profile of this dish was striking, blending the sweet sauce with the savory ingredients. Cinnamon, Star Anise (I'm used to seeing this in Haitian Food), Coconut milk, Potatoes and so much more. While my friend chatted up the waitress in Thai we quickly made progress on our curry. Finally finished, I sat there, wondering when was the last time I felt this satisfied and full. I went to Thailicious the other day before meeting up with a friend for a concert. It was pretty quiet, not too many people, but let me tell you the food was beyond amazing. I had a classic Chicken Pad Thai and a drink from the happy hour menu. The cocktail I had at Thailicious contained Vodka, Thai tea, and lychee juice called Thai Tini. The service was great, the service was attentive. I noticed they do have a lunch special. Came here for Mother's Day dinner and it was surprisingly quiet, which made the experience SO much more pleasant! They accommodated our party of 6 quickly and seamlessly. Also, they lock their doors! You have to buzz to be let in to the restaurant, but that added to the calm of the place. The dish I'm going to sing praises of is the MR. ROTI. If you come here, GET THE MR. ROTI. Perfectly mild spice (for those of you who are like me and can't take too-spicy foods), DELICIOUS coconut curry flavor, and the roti slices were SO fresh, soft, greasy, HEAVEN. My fam did not let a DROP of this curry sauce go to waste. 5 stars just for this DISH. You'll do yourself a disservice if you don't order it. We tried the duck rolls which were also an interesting culinary experience; think egg rolls, but with shredded duck filling. Cleverrrrrr. I also had the classic fried rice, with DUCK, no vegetables. Authentic fried rice, quality duck meat, no bones, not gamey, just pure meaty protein, GREAT-sized portions (4/6 of us needed to take half our dishes home in to-go boxes). And the customer service from Jay was impeccable. So human, friendly, real, helped us take pictures, showed us pictures of certain dishes on her phone to help make our decisions; it kind of felt like she just invited us into her home and made us all dinner as guests. This was such a great experience. Service: we came in as a group of 8 people right before closing and they were great. They said they'd be happy to seat us and didn't rush us in taking our orders. They even let us hangout inside until the taxis came as it was pouring rain outside. Food: the food was good. It was flavorful and came out steaming hot. We could tell that it was freshly made. Their roti and veggie curry mix was delicious. The roti was well cooked and the curry mix had a really nice flavor to it. The drunken noodles had a really nice texture to them and it had a good balance of veggies and tofu. We also got spring rolls, they were crispy and the filling inside was well cooked. I've been here at least 4 times now, but it became my favorite spot for Thai food from the first time I went. Why I love Thailicious: Food is always a 10/10. I've tried a few different options from the lunch menu but I love the cashew chicken. The chicken always has a great taste and texture, plus I really enjoy the pineapple in that dish. Other honorable mentions go out to the dumplings, Rangoon, and garlic beef! I've tried 4 or 5 other spots in the area and Thailicious really blows them out of the water for me. Affordability: appetizer, lunch, plus a Thai iced tea is less than $20 all together. Portion size is plenty in my opinion as well. Came here on a weekday night with a friend. What we got-Drunken noodle with mock duck, Duck fried rice, and Crab Rangoon. The Drunken Noodle with Mock duck was my favorite. Thailicious is one of my go-to neighborhood spots in the Lower East Side. I dine in every once in awhile and also do take out. Their food is amazing. I always get the Pad Se-Ew and it's truly the best I've had in NYC. The quantity and quality of their takeout matches what you get in person as well. When I dine in, the service is very good. The waiters are attentive and always at your service. The dining experience is sort of hole-in-the-wall but to me it's perfect for a casual lunch or dinner with friends. Got this for delivery .4 miles from me : Rama Peanut Chicken. Pad See-EW beef. Delivery was fast. Food came hot. This was the most blandest Thai I've never had. It tasted like anyone could have went to a North American store , went down the international aisle and grabbed premade sauces to sautee with a protein or vegetables. The Rama Peanut was literally slices of chicken with no marinade or seasoning at all. It tasted exactly like chicken and nothing else. Not even saltiness. And the sauce was watery and diluted to have the taste and consistency of chunky Jiffy with water. Absolutely no heat or umani. The chicken was also overcooked. The Pad See-ew noodles were of good texture and so was the plentiful amount of Chinese broccoli but the beef , well , half looked like beef, the other a mystery meat of something lighter than beef. Out of five items ordered, I enjoyed two, tolerated one, and really disliked the last two dishes. It seems to be a one-woman show though - it's a small place, but only one person running around for everything. On a Friday night, we stopped by around 6PM, and even though we finished eating rather quickly, we stayed chatting for a long while afterwards and didn't feel rushed to leave (also because it was no where near full house as well). Maybe it's the aftermath of COVID, but the restaurant's front door is locked the whole time. There's a sign and doorbell on the front door that tells you to ring the bell for dine-in/take out, and the waitress will let you in to seat you or pass you the food. Outside, there was also a very loud homeless man that stayed there the entire night. Could be the reason why the doors are locked. Okay, on to the food. Writing from most enjoyable to least. Before I talk about the food, I have to say that the portions are abysmal for the price. I felt like I was eating lunch special portions. Sooo tiny. Not very shareable at all. Tom Yum Fried Rice with Tofu: this was the highlight of the dinner, with a nice spicy flavor. I would say this was the biggest dish as well with good amount of rice, but I barely had any tofu or other toppings though. Drunken Noodles with Chicken: this was pretty tasty, but I only got two bites :( it was just sooo small. It was spicy and good, but even for one person, I don't think it can fill you up. Shrimp Mama: Too much of the crispy noodle that it was just so hard and dry to eat. Duck Salad: Too sour Shrimp In Da Pot: wow I never knew vermicelli noodles could taste so bad. Whatever sauce this came in was pretty off-putting, our party of four didn't even touch this. Had some of the best drunken noodles I've ever had tonight at Thailicious. I went in around 9:30 and was immediately seated (at one of the only empty tables), after which I was promptly handed a menu. The two waitresses were very friendly and were engaging with me and other tables with jokes and banter. The atmosphere and interior were lovely too and service was pretty fast. The kitchen closes at 10 so I ordered both of my dishes together and they came within 10 minutes of each other. I started with the Chicken Tom Kha Coconut soup and was delighted by its light flavor and mild sweetness. There was a good amount of chicken included and the onions were especially tasty and pleasant. The Drunken Noodle, my entree, was outstanding. The chefs did not skimp on the spice but I was not overwhelmed by it. The shrimps were perfectly cooked and the green beans were just the right amount of crunch. The customer service was FANTASTIC. Our waitress provided great food recommendations and suggested my party order different items to share which was such a great idea. For appetizers we started with the Tom yum lemongrass shrimp soup which was so flavorful and vegetable shrimp rolls, and curry puff. Was looking for food and stumbled upon here. Their papaya salad is fish sauce and spicy based style. The red curry and sticky rice is definitely a recommendation. We went in at around five on a Sunday night. We were the only ones in the place. The atmosphere is casual and pleasant. What we ordered: We started off with the Tom Yum soup and a green papaya salad. The flavor of the soup was amazing and the green papaya was on the tangy side which I liked. For a main we got the pad Thai to split. You have to judge a Thai restaurant by how good their pad Thai is (imo) which is why I gave them a 5/5. What made it stand out was the small noodles which allowed the dish to really absorb a lot of the sauce. Sometimes on pad Thai is made with a thick noodles they end up just turning into a big blob with no flavor. What really made our experience stand out with the service.
