We cook and eat an incredible variety of foods, and always have. We stopped in today because I had seen photos of the food, loved the local place feel, and I was excited! The dining room, cafe, and kitchen looked amazing! My son (13) was very impressed by the waterfall wall, the look-thru fireplace, and the fancy language on the menus. The two questions I asked the waitress, "What is a Hanger Steak", and "what's in the Uni?" She wasn't able to answer. Neither was the second guy she called over. After going and asking the chef, the explanation I got on the Hanger Steak was a beleaguered, "as he (chef) explained to me, it's this this... this cut at the very end, when you butcher the cow, or, yeh, when you cut it in half it's this chunk at the very end, and it's called the butchers cut. It's got a lot of marbeling, and the butcher would usually take it home because it was good." Ok. A chef came out to describe the Uni dish. He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and described it well. After the wrong plates were delivered to our table, we received our ordered items. (Quite timely service!) They were all GORGEOUSLY plated and presented!! The Uni on a bed of grapefruit something or other, a foam with cardimum, and a garnish of dill, presented atop a bowl of rock salt was stunning. It was the best thing we had all night. The Charcuterie plate was dramatically presented with a tall glass filled with smoke that was visually amazing, but infused a lovely spread of finely sliced meat and cheeses with a chemically tasting smoke flavor that clashed with all of it, and further alienated my tastebuds with the variety of fruit relishes and oddly spiced pickled veggies piled layer upon layer. Again... visually pleasing, but the flavors did not complement each other to our dismay!! My son chose an Admirals Chicken plate with potatoes, slaw, and an oddly large pile of pickles. Sigh. Beautiful. The boneless chicken thighs were dry and HARD, with a very sweet sauce. He took two bites and stopped. The slaw was shaved red cabbage with no identifiable sauce, seasoning, or other. The finely sliced pickles were decent. The potatoes and (thin) gravy were the best part of his plate. This from my kid who will eat ANYTHING. I chose the Poke Salad. Lovely! Mushy, with poor flavor. I ate 5 bites. Dessert was a brownie, delightfully baked in a tiny cast iron pan. With vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Hard to mess up, right? It was bland. Brought home a USS Carter ( and could be off on the name) which was a very generous soft French roll with a decent amount of tasty sliced beef, cheese, fries. Hubby said the fries were good. The a jus was not sent home in the take out bag as listed on the menu. I made my own at home for hubby to enjoy with the sandwich. Sigh. I am SO disappointed. I had such high hopes. $100+ for three meals, two appetizers, one dessert, and water for beverages. The staff was very attentive and sweet. Presentation was the high point. Never been disappointed with the food at Maynard's!! The Beef Diablo is delicious and don't even get me started on the smoked beets; they keep me coming back!! As of late however, I saw they advertised "Party on the Patio" for Whaling Days. Live music, food and fireworks on the patio.... I expected a sort of buffet style food service that allowed for mingling. I was sadly mistaken not to mention there was no live music. You were seated and given a choice of 3 entrees (beets and beef Diablo not being an option) served in to go containers, with a "DJ"; music in a queue playing...... This place is beautiful! I ordered their Loaded Reuben fries and it's a must try! It's creamy, full of flavor, and the pastrami is addicting. I then got their Crispy Rockfish and it was just light and refreshing! The coconut rice blew my mind and the rockfish is definitely crispy. XD I don't like pineapples all that much, but this made me love pineapples. Raven, my waitress, was just as amazing as the food I ordered. She was patient, kind, and helped me out when I needed it. My family and I went to Maynard's last night for a special occasion. We were a large party of 8 and the place was busy two other tables a16 top and a 10 top. And yet we had a fantastic night Our server Reggie made me fell like a rockstar. Attentive yet inconspicuous. Really the best service I have received in all of my 57 years. The food seriously the best. They have a 70$ tomahawk ribeye that was so good. The best steak for the cost. Great crust seasoned to perfection and a perfect mid rare. My son and had steak but the rest of the table had burgers, chicken, pizza, and salads and everyone loved there meal. I didn't count so I may be off but there were around 20 beers on tap, and 12 single malts. At the end of the night JJ the owner checked our table to make sure we were leaving happy. We really enjoyed our night and we will be customers for life. read more

I read through the reviews and saw we had a 50/50 shot at having a decent breakfast and thought, "what the heck, why not?" We arrived and the staff was friendly but the breakfast SUCKED. I ordered loaded potatoes and was assured yummy stuff would be added, the potatoes were burnt and none of the yummies were even cooked with the food. My eggs tasted like powdered eggs and weren't cooked all the way through while my Bf's omelet tasted like real eggs. I would not go back. I'd rather be at Denny's. Where do I start?? Well, I guess I'll start by saying we are transplants from the East Coast. We live about 5 minutes from Maynard's now. We SOOOO wanted this to be a good spot for us because its so convenient. Unfortunately, fate was not kind...... Our first visit was for lunch. Right away I noticed the cooks were not wearing beard masks or hairnets/hats. I peaked over the counter and it seemed clean from the quick glance I got. We were seated and I couldn't help notice loud conversation coming from the beverage station where the staff seem to congregate. OK, I'm not opposed to a good time, but what really got me is they used the soda/beverage station as their own personal drinking bar (picture included). I even saw a kitchen guy with gloves on drinking a monster. What is the point of the gloves if you are drinking with them on? In this day and age where health and safety practices should be 2nd nature, it seemed like a big failure of management not to enforce Health Department policies. There were only about 6 tables in the restaurant but it took our food about 35 minutes. That seemed excessive. I ordered the Prime Rib French Dip $19.99 and my husband ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Mine was way under impressive. The meat was dry, hardly any melted cheese and the au jus looked greasy. It had separated. The fries were not hot. The grilled cheese was above average. The tomato soup was so spicy we couldn't eat it. So, overlooking the sanitation issues and lunch items, we thought we'd give it one last shot for breakfast. It was a Sunday at around 9:30am. It was not very busy. I noticed no one wearing hats again. I glanced over the counter and saw what had to be 5 pounds of potatoes that had been deep fried already and sitting on the flat top, apparently as a holding technique. We were seated right away and the hostess brought us water. A few minutes later the server came by and asked what we wanted to drink. We ordered a coke and a coffee with cream and Splenda. She went to the bar to get the coke, returned and set it down. Many minutes later, I noticed our server chatting with a person who appeared to be the expeditor. They seemed to be laughing and joking around. Later, she finally brought a coffee and asked, "Oh, did you need cream?" When I looked in the sugar caddy, I noticed there was no Splenda either. I asked, "do you not have Splenda?" she riffled through the caddy and said, "Oh, just these..." I stated I didn't want coffee if there was no Splenda. She took the coffee away and came back to take our order. We both ordered the 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. While we were waiting we couldn't help noticing the staff hollering back and forth to each other across the dining room. I again wondered where the manager was that allowed this type of lax behavior. About 15 minutes later our server brought two plates of food. She stated, "I'll be back with your toast." I ate a potato and wasn't surprised when I discovered they were cold. But, I don't eat many of them anyway. The bacon wasn't at all crisp and was more like the bacon you get on a McDonald's McMuffin. But, I did want my toast to eat with my eggs. We watched her go to the bar and chat with another server. Then she greeted a new table beside us and got there drink order. About 5 minutes later, she returned with our toast and said, "Oh, sorry, we don't have any jam for the toast." I think by this point, I was stunned. I was going to just eat my eggs and toast and be done with it. I cut into the eggs and found they were completely overcooked. When she came to check on us I described that my potatoes and bacon had been cold and the eggs were overcooked. She stated she would take it off the bill. She then turned around and said that the entire breakfast was on her. I appreciated that she took care of our breakfast. What I am not understanding is how this restaurant is operating. It is a beautiful building and grounds. I'm going to guess it was $10 million plus. The kitchen equipment looked great and plenty of room in the dining room. There seems to be a lack of leadership and standard in quality. This is why it has been so slow when we've gone. Other similar restaurants in the area are always on a minute wait. read more

I think that they are starting to get in the groove of being the new place in town. The first to times I went, I didn't want to rate them because it wouldn't have been good. The last two times have been really yummy. Their beat salad is really wonderful. A friend of mine that doesn't like beats actually loved it. Took a cooking class here with their French chef. Arguably one of the best meals ive had in the past few years. I got the N.Y steak, potato chowder, bread platter with assorted butters and brussel sprouts to sample a bit of what they had to offer as staples and its was simply incredible. The sprouts were about what youd expect and not the most impressive, but the steak and chowder was at a level id expect to receive from the bests in the state like Stanley and Seaforts or eating at the Columbiana Tower. Shocking even better than the food was the staff which at most restaurants comes down to if they did their job or were attentive but they were so friendly, accommodating, shared experiences stories and really got personal and down to earth while maintaining professionalism to the point where it legit inspired me to write this review. Joe (not the manager ;) ) was one of the best serving staff ive encountered in any resturant and i travel to eat at fine dining as my hobby. If youre reading reviews to decide on a resturant is highly advise committing here and giving them a shot and know ill be advising them to my clients for my business when they ask what they should get. Just had an amazing first experience from food to service! We had a moms night out which doesn't happen often. So we chose to try happy hour here and it did not disappoint! We tried the chorizo Mac and cheese, wings, cheese curds and garlic cheese bread. Everything was delicious. For $4.99 you really can't go wrong. We also ordered the beets appetizer (not on happy hour) and I am pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this dish. I normally don't eat beets but I could easily eat it all to myself. We were pretty full but couldn't say no to crème brûlée and I am happy we didn't pass up dessert. The drinks were good too. I had the bees knees and the ladies were happy with their drinks as well. We sat at the table in front of the fire. The ambiance was nice and cozy. Our server was Randall who did a fantastic job with serving us. He was funny and accommodating...he even sang for our birthdays! We will definitely be requesting him as our server again. I think we just found our new happy hour spot. Came in for breakfast. Server was great. She answered questions as this was our first visit for breakfast. The food was very good...my eggs were each prepared over medium which is a good test of a breakfast cook. The hash browns were great .toast was evenly toasted to a slight golden brown. The sausage was more savory than sweet which was a nice change of pace from the usual breakfast sausage in most places. The pancakes with fresh strawberries and whipped cream were excellent. Long story short, we went out of our way to make reservations at a time that worked for several family members from around the peninsula for a family members birthday including being delivered in a legit Rolls Royce... We all showed up after long day at work, most of us in blue collar industries working in the heat all day as many did. We were looking forward to a cool comfortable experience to unwind, celebrate and drink. (Aka spend $$$) Unfortunately after hearing multiple people around us complain due to it being too hot inside with no airflow we too inquired why it was so hot getting told "I'm sorry the ac is on". Every bartender and most servers were discreetly wiping sweat of their head, which I don't blame them at all as we were too! Eventually a young lady who worked there asked what looked to be a manager due to the complaints if she could turn the AC up. He said yes, in front of us. She turned it from 84 down to 80. Needless to say we all barely ate and didn't end up spending the extra money on drinks and dessert which they could have gotten from us. We may try again in the future but not anytime soon. As for the food and the personable service, it was good. That's why there's two stars instead of 1 and we tipped well. read more

I had a party of 7 for Easter Sunday brunch. Beverages were not included. Although their was a good variety of food choices, flavor was lacking and not seasoned very well. The staff was friendly and about the only positive aspect of the restaurant. The most disappointing part was the value and quality of the food produced. The price point was way out of line for what was expected and then delivered. For 4 adults ($45pp) 2 Children($25pc) and 1 senior ($30) with tax was $262!! Everything about Maynards except the location is horrendous. My friend and I saw that they were having a crab special and decided we wanted to try out Maynard's for the first time. First, it's not something that you can reserve at the restaurant. It was an event that you had to pay for before hand. With that you had to pay service fees, you had to pay all these extra fees. It came out to being around $150 for two people. When we walked inside, there were only a handful of customers the employees outnumbered us by a good amount. when we sat down, we were given a menu and we ordered biscuits , Caesar salad, potato soup and crab. Nothing was edible. Caesar salad: it tasted like wet lettuce and cheese. There was no taste. The croutons were burnt, but I think they were put in the fridge so they were burned and soggy at the same time. Biscuits / soup: tasted like nothing. Again, no flavor at all. Crab: the crab was the worst part. It came slathered in butter to attempt to hide the poor quality and how old it was. Even the butter on the side to dip the crab in had absolutely no flavor, or taste. Dungeness crab is a delicate crab that doesn't need other components overshadowing the taste unless it's not fresh which it was not. The second I tasted it I knew it was old, probably previously frozen. You can get better crab at Costco for a better price. In attempt to have something that I enjoyed, I ordered a dessert which was on our menu. Turns out I was being charged extra money on top of what I've already paid for this dessert. Which would've been fine if the dessert actually tasted good. Once again, it was dry. It had no flavor. No taste. The service wasn't great either they acted like they didn't want to be there and didn't want to have anything to do with us. It was a terrible experience and I will never go back. I can't stand that they are representing themselves as the culinary experience of kitsap county. And the kicker to all of this was not the overpriced border line inedible food it was the fact that I got sick afterwards. Maynard's has a reputation for bad service, bad food, and underwhelming experience in Kitsap county. I wish I would have listened because now I'm sick, and out money. read more

I was excited about visiting this place when I found out it had opened over a year ago. However, after the second, third and fourth time???!!!??? I'm seriously disappointed peeps. I was really hoping to finally leave this place feeling somewhat satisfied and maybe not feel the urge to write this review. But here we are. Specifics: *We ate a tempora veggie dish, which wasn't too bad but very little flavor. I was slightly satisfied, but mostly b/c I ate veggies which is good for the body people say right?? *2nd & 3rd Dish- Polenta and Gluten Free MacNCheese: 1) Polenta was mediocre at best; once again no flavor, but luckily filling and held us over. 2) ***Gluten free MacNcheese**** BEWARE Inedible. Honestly, I think the chef may have used baking soda instead of salt, butter and milk. I couldn't put my finger on it, but my wife couldn't eat it and told me, "imagine the smell of cardboard....and that's what it tasted like." I know this is an epically horrible review for this restaurant and I have a lot of respect for restaurants and I respect the owner's vision. But when the experience feels like groundhog day and you realize you're not the only one that's experiencing this...? Something needs to be said and something needs to be done. read more

We are frequent diners to Maynard's in Silverdale. Even though the great controversy, we dined there, not because we approved of how the owner handled the situation but because he also employes a great many local people that might otherwise be unemployed. We have had wonderful meals there and some that were returned to the kitchen. On average, it's often better than not. One of my favorites there, although seasonal is their Lobster Roll. Absolutely delicious and for $20 it is worth the price as I leave satisfied with both the quality of the food and my hunger satiated. Another favorite of past times, and apparently also seasonal is their Sea Scallops. They are served in the shell cooked to perfection with a small amount of a cream sauce, topped with toasted breadcrumbs and a small piece of sun dried tomato. It is delicious. Served on a bed of Spam fried rice. Each scallop is at least two bites. They are large, tender and sand free. Last week, my son in law was in town for one day. He works for the Ritz Carlton in management. He opens restaurants, hires world class chefs and designs menus as well as wine pairings. He knows food. He wanted to take me to lunch. We only had about a four hour window so I suggested Maynards. He liked the idea that it was "farm to table". We arrived and knowing he is a seafood lover, I suggested the scallops. I shared with him how big they were, how they were served and was genuinely excited for him to try them. What we got was such a disappointment. Instead of five" Sea Scallops " we were served five " Bay scallops". Bay scallops are tiny, about twice the size of a pencil eraser. 3-4 would be the size of one Sea Scallop. Five bay scallops amounted to a bite and a half of the regular Sea Scallops. The price was $30 per plate. My complaint, mostly, is that I felt the server should have told us they were bay scallops and not the larger Sea Scallops. Since there was no difference in price I would expect when ordering the same thing a couple months apart, I would be served the same amount of food. He had ordered a " shareable ", the charcuterie which was also underwhelming but it is what saved us from leaving hungry. Did I notify management? No. I'm certain they are very aware of the food they are serving. Did I complain to our server? No. It tasted good, And I'm writing this now, not to complain but to inform. Was I disappointed? Absolutely. Will I go back? Absolutely. But I will ask, Sea Scallops or Bay? I don't mind paying $30 but I don't want to leave hungry. read more

I was surprised how large this restaurant was - it's a big, cavernous space. There's an open kitchen where you can watch food as it's served up. For a Friday night, only about half the tables were occupied. They serve a wide variety of dishes. I had the half-dozen fresh oysters, and the tasted very fresh, with that sea aroma. I had the 10 oz prime rib. It was tasty and prepared well, with a horseradish cream, green bean mashed potato combination with crunchy fried onions, along with a baked potato the size of my head. The baked potato was tasty and well baked, with crunchy skin and bacon, sour cream, and butter on the side, but also with sour cream already melting into the potato. The restaurant is well lit, with easy to read menus (including the wine list on an enormous tablet). Prices were expensive for what you get, but that may be the new inflationary reality. I wish they had more information about ingredients, and served more on the side. And there were too many entrees with cheese for this food lover with a cheese aversion. read more
