My wife and I attended the 5th Annual NYE celebration for $119 + tax per person. DO NOT waste your hard-earned money attending any events given by Maynard's. The food will not meet your expectations and you will not get everything they promised on the menu (no crab legs, dry crab cakes), the drinks are well & tap only even though they said the tickets were for premium drinks, and the service was non-existent. The bartender had an attitude. I do not recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good food and good service. read more

I came to Maynard's last night and was very disappointed. I was with a group of 10 and I get that's a lot of people but it took forever to get food. We waited for the drink order, time went by again and the waitress came back (I was hoping for entrees order ) but it was just appetizers. Only two people wanted apps so we waited till their apps came out, they ate them and then the waitress finally came back for entree orders. It was over an hour till we got our meals. We were there a total of two and a half hours and that was all the time from our reservation till check. We weren't hanging out after the bill. I will note, the waitress was nice and very professional! Now about the food. I'm not trying to come across mean, but are ya'll actually tasting what you send out? I have had amazing flavorful meals here in the past, the best tiramisu I've ever had was from here! That's not the case anymore. Seems quality consistency is a problem. I ordered the blacken chicken Alfredo. It was so bland tasting like a roux or a frozen dinner. I had to load it with salt and pepper. I ate most of it cause I was really hungry but then I ordered dessert and was disappointed again. I got the brownie ala mode. It came out on a small cast iron. I feel like most people would imagine a brownie that's served hot with ice cream to be gooey. This brownie was more cake like. Very fluffy and lacking chocolate flavor. The flavor it did have though was very strong of iron! I had others try at the table and they agreed so I sent it back. I get it's a cast iron pan, but it's not supposed to flavor the food with a prominent iron taste. Maybe try seasoning the pans? read more

Made reservations weeks in advance for Mother's Day for 12 people. Showed up 20 minutes early for our reservation and we were seated 25 minutes past our reservation time. Asked the hostess when we would be seated and was told they were preparing a table in the back room - almost ready. There was a big group seated at a table near the entry way who were still at their table. We are still waiting for the table that she said was being prepared and ready any moment in the back room. The large group seated near the lobby was leaving and they were clearing that table off and preparing it for us. I asked the hostess preparing the table nearby the lobby if this table was for us - she said yes! I then spoke to the hostess that said we were going to be seated in the back room and that the table was almost ready, about 15 minutes ago - what happened to that table - and why after her saying that, that we had to wait much longer for the other party to leave to get their table cleared. This hostess proceeded to tell me that she never said she was preparing a table in the back room - which was a lie. She had a very rude attitude and was not friendly or nice at all. I asked her why she was being so rude to me after waiting all this time and not causing a problem at all - she proceeded to say "I am not being rude!" I said "well you are being rude! " I said we would prefer the table that you original said was being set up - because we had 7 children with us and the back room was better suited for them. Now remember this is Mother's Day - a special occasion with the whole family to celebrate. To spend much money on this occasion in their establishment. We are regulars and have spent quite a lot of money over time in the establishment! The wait staff know us and we have never caused one bit of trouble in this restaurant. My daughter who was there was quit upset at how this one hostess was treating me - her mother. So she went up to the hostess and complained to her at how she treated her mother. We finally were seated, at the disapproval of my daughter, as she wanted to leave and eat somewhere else. They never apologized for how long they made us wait past our scheduled reservation time that we had made weeks in advance. The hostess was very unprofessional and not a good representation for the restaurant. This one bad egg will keep many from ever returning to this establishment. But the real source of frustration for me is that the manager proceeded to console the hostess in front of my daughter and gave my daughter a very rude stare. The owner was on the floor and never came to the table to apologize for the wait time and the confusion and the rudeness of his hostess. The only one that apologized was our waitress. She was very kind and very understanding. She was the only one in the whole restaurant with good customer service. What a sad state that customer service has become. Where the patron is treated with such little regard when they are there to spend their money and enjoy a night out. My daughter was so upset at how we were treated that she could not eat her meal. Maynard's had ruined Mother's Day for us over something that could have been completely avoided, with a little kindness on the part of this hostess and the managerial staff and the owner. Maynard's will not be a restaurant that we will return to in the near future. It's so very sad. read more

The only thing I can think of is the pizza should sit on a wrack for a minute to keep that bottom crust especially for that oven that represents the restaurant. Very disappointing. My husband and I and our 2 friends went online twice, checking out the menu and offerings of this restaurant. Four days before I made our online reservations, then the day before, we again checked online for any menu changes for a holiday Valentines dinner special menu. No changes to the menu or any mention of different menu for the holiday. Okay, great, no problem, we were excited to try the 3 course meal, available "EVERYDAY" from 2:00-5:30 p.m. Perfect since our friends wanted to have an early dinner to avoid the Valentines evening rush. We arrived for our early dinner reservations at 3:00 p.m., and all 4 of us already knew what we were going to order since we had all looked over the menu online. We tell the server we all want to order the 3 course meal. The waitress tells us, "I'm sorry," the menu for the 3 course meal is not available today because it's Valentine's Day. (STRIKE 1) She tells us they have a special menu for the holiday, but oh "I'm sorry" the special Valentine's menu won't even start for at least an hour (and BTW the menu is not finished yet, so she can't even tell us what the specials will be, but if we wanted to wait an hour we could find out.) (STRIKE 2) We, all 4 of us, were very disappointed, to say the least, since the website mentioned nothing about a special Valentine's menu. We were all looking forward to the three course meal which all of us wanted to order. The server gives us the menu, we look at all the choices place our order and 2 of us want the fish & chips. "I'm sorry," but we don't have fish & chips today. (STRIKE 3!) Good Lord, really? One disappointment after another. Then honestly, the service there is so slow, and that's not just our opinion. I've heard many people complain about how slow the service is at this restaurant. Unbelievably, the diners at the table next to us overheard our displeasure and said they, too, were very unhappy, that they had the same complaints we had and they wanted to speak to the GM as well. My husband did ask to speak to the manager. Eventually, the sous-chef came out to speak with us. He was nice enough to try and mitigate the situation of our dissatisfaction, giving us a discount coupon and apologizing for the unhappy experience. My husband still wanted to speak the GM, and he finally appeared at our table with apologies and explanations of how their web designer really dropped the ball. Well, I'm sorry to say that we believe many people dropped the ball along the way. It was our friends' first time at Maynards restaurant, they said they wouldn't go back because of the 'Bait and Switch' tatics of the restaurant. I don't think we will be returning soon, if ever, and it's too bad because we wanted to love it there. It's a beautiful restaurant but they really need to get their act together. With today's economy and the high prices everywhere, dining out is such a pleasure. There are many many choices out there for dining, and unfortunately, Maynards won't be on our list to revisit. I am so grateful that the restaurant that two friends and I were going to go to yesterday was closed.  Maynard's was just around the corner from that restaurant so we decided to give it a try.   It was our first visit. I must say that this was one of the best experiences with food and restaurant ambiance that the three of us have ever had while dining out together.   And, we meet often over lunch in various cities and towns throughout the Puget Sound region regularly to conduct our business.  Usually one's best first impression experience is when there is no hassle parking.  We were very thankful for the stress free start with ample parking.  It was a big deal. The restaurant interior is lovely. Very spacious and accommodating. I liked the open cook area where we could watch the food preparation magic happen. The host and servers were genuinely friendly and knowledgeable.   Our person seemed truly happy to be serving us. I have particular eating needs and habits that she instantly understood and managed to accommodate with ease.  This is notable and actually impressive because I don't often get that quality attention and care when dining out at most places.  THE FOOD:  Every dish that I saw go by to other tables was artfully plated and made me desire each.   I settled on the shrimp and crab salad with numerous modifications to the salad base and dressing.  It was a masterpiece and very tasty.  It was a very sizable plate with more than enough to take half home but I ate it all in the one sitting.  Yup, it was that good.  My friend who had the fried fish over coconut rice raved about it.  Said it was appropriately spicy and so delicious.   She said it reminded her of an authentic Indonesia meal that she experienced a long time ago and never forgot.   My other friend enjoyed the shrimp tacos.  Unfortunately none us live close by.   I reside in Kingston, one is from University Place, and the other Olympia.   Actually, Kingston is not that far so I will be back on my own to visit as much as possible on trips to do shopping in the area.   The cool thing is the three of us are committed to eat at Maynard's on the times we gather for lunch and our rotation is in Kitsap.   At least 4 times a year.   Maynard's has new fans.  We only ask that they keep doing what's working and tweak only what's not.  And don't lose the quality service or food.  They should have continued and growing success of the restaurant in the New Year! read more

I was craving a pizza and ordered the margarita pizza which was very flavorful and crispy , not burnt ! The bottom was browned perfectly . Maybe a little more fresh basil but everything was well made My husband had the beast burger which was medium rare and it was 100% correct ! He was ranting and raving about the wonderful taste of the burger and how juicy it was . The whole combination was a hit ! We ordered two brownies a la mode to go . Which were HUGE thick and fudgy ice cream tasted home made and not store bought. . I did notice that the servers are quick ! But stood around waiting a long time for their food , ticket times exceeded 20 minutes at times , maybe the kitchen needs to be revamped with some new cooks since I have been here multiple and people have had long wait times . This is our first time at this establishment, and the food was just okay honestly. The host that seated us gave us a dirty table, but thankfully cleaned it for us as we were sitting there. The place was very empty so I'm surprised she seated us at a dirty table. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. I have a dairy allergy and she made sure that they didn't use butter on the pans. (They use separate pans for cooking and use olive oil if anyone was curious.) I got the Maynard's breakfast and the best thing about it was the O'Brien potato's. They were seasoned very very well! I just wish you got more honestly. It's a very small portion. The sausage tasted dry and old like they cooked it this morning. The sausage is my favorite part of a breakfast meal and I was very disappointed. The eggs were cooked perfectly for me.I also got a mimosa with my meal and it was STRONG, which I like! My partner got the country skillet and asked for over medium eggs. I got to Sample Colby's lamb chops tonight. Having been raised by a lamb cooking mom, I can attest with high confidence that Colby made the BEST lamb chops I've ever tasted. The pomegranite sauce with the dill and rosemary cream was AMAZING. The meat was cooked to melt in your mouth perfection. This dish is worth a special trip to Maynard's. Hannah, our server treated us like were VIP's, and she too was TOP SHELF in her service thanks to her friendly personality and warmth. What a great night. Little did they know, Colby and Hannah prepared our meals for the lead dietician and the Executive Chef for a VERY large national organization. My wife and I went there this past Saturday (3/25). The ambiance and view were great, and honestly the service was great and the staff was pretty friendly. I just don't think our food was that great to justify the price. I ordered a breakfast burrito that was 18.99. The portion was big, but all that was inside was scrambled eggs, some meat, potatoes, peppers, and cheese. It was smothered in a nacho cheese sauce that tasted like que bueno (from the can). Other than the weird nacho cheese sauce, I've basically had this burrito before from Del Taco for like 6 bucks. In no way was it elevated or "gourmet." My wife ordered the salmon eggs Benedict. She felt that although it wasn't the worst she's ever had, that it too was definitely not "gourmet." The hollandaise lacked the tang and zestyness (perhaps they omitted the lemon juice from the hollandaise). The capers were a nice touch. The salmon was dry and over cooked. She felt the breakfast potatoes were the best thing on the plate. Although the food was definitely underwhelming to put it nicely, we aren't necessarily writing them off right now. We are willing to try some more of the menu, like the lunch or dinner and see if there's anything that we would like since we admire that someone is at least trying to bring fine dining to our neck of the woods. read more

It was almost as if they were segregating people, depending on what they were wearing 2. We had ketchup dropped on us not once but twice! Staining my boyfriend's pants and my white shoes. 3.The waiter needs to wash his hair! 4. The prime rib was horribly overpriced for its disgraceful cooking job. 5. One of the friendliest dinning experiences I have ever had. Sandy greeted us at the door, introduced herself and asked us our names. It's a little detail, but the staff talked about everybody by name. I watch Elisha our awesome server ask Sandy where a tea went and she told her it was for Sharon, and that's how all the exchanges I saw went. At one point, Edgar the sous chef saw our 9 month old daughter and came out to say hi and offer her a cookie. Seriously, I can not stress how impressed I was with the service. The food was good as well. We went for breakfast and the menu was a pretty basic breakfast menu, but everything was done well. I can summarize our experience with 2 main points: - Really overpriced - NOT good for kids, despite having a kids menu My husband had the pork roast with couscous, flavor was good but the couscous was undercooked. I had fettucine with diver sea scallops, the sea scallops were slightly undercooked, the sauce was too acidic, and it wasn't worth the $35 price for 3 small scallops and some noodles. When we first sat down, we ordered the "children's appetizer" which was apple slices with honey and chocolate chips. How fun for them! They were so excited! Only, it never came. When our main dishes arrived, the server informed us they were out of it (this was 30 minutes+ after we had ordered it). The kids meals were not really kid food, they seemed more like a slightly smaller serving of adult food and were screaming hot so they couldn't eat it for quite a while. There's a lot of other good choices in the area, likely we won't be back. I don't need to spend that much money to have a really mediocre dinner with my family. read more

This is a hard review for me to write because everyone is so friendly at this restaurant. We have been a handful of times since they have opened, but I feel that this one warrants an official review after we attended their end of summer bash last night. The good is that once again, the staff was very cheerful and welcoming. The outdoor area with a deck and patio is beautiful, there is no other way to put it. The party was advertised 5-close. We were seated at about 5:20 PM and had purchased tickets on event bright for $29 each. I believe we were the first people to arrive, and we ordered drinks(not included, but we knew this). Our waiter asked us if we would like to purchase appetizers, but we said no and that we would just like dinner. We sat and visited with each other, listening to the hip-hop/Pop music that the DJs were playing as a small amount of people filtered in. It wasn't until about 645ish that the announcement was made that the food was ready. That was a very long wait made only tolerable by the beautiful weather and outdoor surroundings. The food. As advertised, it was stated that there would be pulled pork, macaroni salad, pineapple coleslaw, coconut rice, Hawaiian rolls, and sweet onion chips. There was no pineapple coleslaw, nor sweet onion chips. That was my first observation. There was the pork, macaroni salad, coconut rice, and rolls. Protein and a whole lot of carbs, basically. The pork was tasty, but it it definitely was not the smoked pulled pork flavor that I was expecting (think Smokin' Robinsons/Danny's barbecue, etc.). The macaroni salad was extremely saturated in dressing, and just not edible for me. The coconut rice did have some nice flavor, but it was not anything special in my opinion. The total cost of our two event Brite tickets after the fees was $68. We do not feel that this experience was in any way worth the money that we spent considering that we also paid $25 at the restaurant for our drinks after tip. It seemed as if this was not a very well organized event as even the server said he had just learned when he started his shift what was taking place. The venue, as always, is beautiful and the staff friendly, but they have got to be better organized and step up their game. I understand that the event costs included being able to be outside near the DJ/face painting/yard games, but in my opinion, if the food and organization of the whole event is subpar, then I would rather take that money and go out to a nice dinner somewhere else. read more

Tried Maynard's for the first time this morning and it was wonderful. The space is beautiful, you get inlet views from most seats. The food was very good, not overly salty and good sized portions. We've been 5 times and every time there is always a major issue; to the point where we get our bill covered by the restaurant. The location is great and the inside gives trendy, cool and modern vibes but it still leaves a lot on the table. The food options seem like they would be great but majority lack flavor. Staff are friendly but seem to not understand service very well (never bring the appetizer and entrée to the table at the same time, come and refill drinks etc). My first experience with Maynards was great, with great food and ambiance. However my visit last night didn't go so well. I ordered the admiral fried chicken last night, but upon receipt of the dish, it was overly fried and drizzled in a very sweet sauce. In short, it wasn't appetizing nor was it good. The coleslaw didn't match or compliment the flavor, and the roasted potatoes would've been good, had the sweet sauce on he chicken not over power the gravy. I was very disappointed in the dish. Our server was great, and very sweet. A+ on her customer service. I would suggest not ordering the admiral chicken, as the flavors are not complementary. read more

Never been disappointed with the food at Maynard's!! The Beef Diablo is delicious and don't even get me started on the smoked beets; they keep me coming back!! As of late however, I saw they advertised "Party on the Patio" for Whaling Days. Live music, food and fireworks on the patio.... I expected a sort of buffet style food service that allowed for mingling. I was sadly mistaken not to mention there was no live music. You were seated and given a choice of 3 entrees (beets and beef Diablo not being an option) served in to go containers, with a "DJ"; music in a queue playing......
