Came here to try the tongue which admittedly was delicious. However, we were not impressed by the kabobs and rice. They were mediocre at best. Service was horrible. There was only one server and she was very busy. It was really painful to watch how understaffed the place was. We didn't get water until towards the end of our meal and we had to wait half an hour to just order. Ambiance was okay but overall just not a great experience. read more

I have been coming here for years, I tried most of the food on the menu, I love their ash soup , I take it without sour cream on top . My best dish is lam shank with green sauce with beans it's delicious , meat falls of the bones. Their rice has really good flavor . From the appetizers I like lamb thong and eggplant dish . We have visited over 100 restaurants in San Francisco, but this restaurant is by far the most dishonest and unprofessional we've been to. We drove 40 miles to dine here, only to find that they were charging $20 for parking on a public street. When I questioned the fee, one of the staff members pointed to a lengthy sign reading "passenger loading." Which have nothing to do With the fees they charging. Inside, we were watched by two Asian females and the same man who informed us about the parking charge. Their behaviour toward us felt very odd. We ordered our meal and, when it was time to get the bill, we were handed a handwritten receipt with an incorrectly calculated sales tax. Additionally, a $24 service charge was added without any prior notification and was added as a tip to the final receipt without me giving them any tip. We didn't get copy of detailed receipt of what we ordered. It was stabled with the merchant receipt. The parking also only taking cash and doesn't give a receipt to show you paid them for a street parking. He told me to go the corner store to get cash, I told him I can't go there I have kids, he took my card and went inside and added as a tip again. This level of misconduct deserves the attention of the state and Tax Franchise Board. We were really racially profiled. One of the women even mugged my children few times and packed our food and handed it to us in a used plastic bag, while other customers were given new bags and paper bags. This discriminatory behaviour, along with what appears to be illegal practices, is very unacceptable. As a business owner, you are required to use a proper point-of-sale (POS) system that calculates accurate taxes and provides transparency to your customer and give them a detailed receipt for their records. You are also obligated to follow the law, particularly SB-478, the Consumers Legal Remedies Act. To the costumer, while spending hundreds of dollars on a meal, be aware of unethical practices at this Resturant. I recommend exploring other restaurants in San Francisco where you will be treated fairly and charged appropriately. read more

I always order their Chelo-kebab Koobideh with an extra order of grilled tomatoes. I went there this Saturday and I ordered my usual and They didn't give me the extra order of grilled tomatoes. I live in the east bay now. I ordered 3 koobideh this time to give to my brother. I even asked the lady that took my order if it was in my bag with the 2 koobideh, the other bag was for my brother, she said yes and I left. My husband doesnt want me to complain, but if I order something and pay for it, I expect to get what I paid for. I couldn't go back to get it fixed. After trying the Koobideh at Persian Nights (Oakland), a few people told me the best Koobideh and Ghrome Sabzee in SF was at Maykadeh. First things first, parking absolutely sucks, as you all know. We ended up paying $18 (cash only) to valet our car. Having valet meant we didn't have to stress about parking our car too far from us, but I noticed our car had been moved 3 times during our meal (we can hear it when it gets started). It made me anxious not understanding why they kept moving it around. For our meal, my partner and I shared the Chelo-kebab Koobideh and Ghrome Sabzee. The meat was sooo juicy and delicious. I thought Persian Nights made a tasty Koobideh, but Maykadeh's is top tier. The Ghrome Sabzee was not too sour and the meat was super tender. The rice is buttery and fluffy; pairs nicely with the meats. The service was great, quick, and friendly. Overall, the food was delicious, service was spot on, the meal was a little pricey, but excited to return. read more

We arrived on a Monday evening around 6pm and were seated promptly without any reservation. As soon as we sat down, we were served water, a generous offering of about 5 pieces of warm/hot bread, and a plate of basil and raw onion. Our Persian friend ordered the ghrome sabzee lamb shank, koobideh kebabs, filet steak, mast-o-musir, and baba ghanoush. I had their Persian Martini, which contains pomegranate juice and bits of lime. Very refreshing! The grilled khoobideh kebabs are made with coarsely ground beef, lamb and chopped onions. The meat reminded me of Japanese "tsukune"! :-) The meatball kebab was seasoned nicely and very juicy and was served with a hot, roasted tomato, and a healthy serving of lightly seasoned fluffy rice on large plates. My only gripe is that the breads were slightly over baked on one side, so the consistency of one half of the pita bread was crispy and stuck together instead of being warm, spongy and chewy. It was a bit like a soda bread cracker. Overall, though, I found the food to be delicious, not overly seasoned, and the portions were sizable enough to take half of my rice and kebab back home. The ambiance is nice with some Middle Eastern background music. Service was professional, but I wish there was less dish clatter by the bussers. There are other dishes on the menu that I didn't get to try this time that I definitely want to try next time, so I'll definitely return to try them. read more

I have been here many times . Whenever I have a guest and they want to try Iranian food , I take them here . This restaurant is one of my favorites. They have quite high prices but it's normal for San Francisco. The employees are nice and friendly. The food is just great . I can say I have tried almost everything on their menu and I loved everything so far . Food taste right they use fresh ingredients. You can easily tell . The only thing I would not recommend is the Baklava . I didn't like it . To by Baklava I would go to an Arabian or Turkish cafe . But for real anything else in their menu is just amazing . Butter on rice is the Persian culture's gift to mankind and Maykadeh serves this alongside delicious and authentic (says my Persian boyfriend) food! You can't go wrong with anything you order here but I personally love the stews such as ghorme sabzi and gheimeh (with the amazing idea of using French fries as topping!) Their soup aush reshteh is so comforting and is a perfect dish to eat when Karl the fog is in town. The staff were all so friendly, informative and efficient! I had some business in the financial district so after I was done I looked up for some new finds around & Maykadeh showed up! so ofc I had to get an uber & get there. The restaurant does offer valet but i'm not sure where they park since there isn't really any space other than street parking. Im glad I just got an uber & left my car in the parking lot. First impressions, classy looking Iranian restaurant. I made no reservations & they had plenty of tables open so we got seated quick for 2 people. There was also outdoor seating but I preferred inside. The hostess brought fresh bread & complementary sabzi dish right away when we got seated. The menu looked very simple to look at with descriptions on each dish & had halal on top of it so i'm assuming everything is halal on the menu. We got Ash, mast musir, kashk e bademjan, gheimeh tahdig & fesenjoon tahdig for appetizers. I always get Soltani so they had a Maykadeh soltani which is a fillet mignon barg kabab & I substituted the koobideh to chicken koobideh. My hubby got koobideh & their house dough for his drink. The appetizers were brought out & every single bite of food was so flavorful & it just felt so homie & authentic. My favorite was the kashe bademjan it was packed with flavors! Couldn't get enough of it! As for our main dish kababs, we were both honestly speechless with the 1st bites, SO JUICY & the FLAVOR......omg.....!!! It was cooked to perfection & just perfect. We were beyond happy, It was like I had time traveled to Iran. We were so full & got everything left over for to go, but we had to test their ice cream too. Not overly sweet but creamy & dreamy. I love Maykadeh, my family has been going here for over 10 years and it's kept its quality that high ever since. They have all your traditional Iranian appetizers, entrees, beverages and dessert. All their dishes are served with such high quality meat and just an overall amazing dish! Each dish is a bit pricey but you're really paying for the quality of what you're getting (plus it's SF). I'm Watching "check please ! BAY area...on PBS KQED on Maykadeh Restaurant on Green street, San Francisco. And watching this program it has reminded me on how much i love this restaurant. I have eaten here at least 5 times in the past (3 years ago) w my adult exchange students who were living e my family and studying here in San Francisco from Dubai...,. Therefore, this review has been a long time coming! we love the chicken kabob w rice. My husband orders the steak w saffron yellow rice. My friends can't get enough of the wonderful lamb dishes but . Actually ......Everything on the menu is pleasing. The Staff is supreme, chefs are the best! We Love the atmosphere, it is a great place to take guest visiting San Francisco! Classy restaurant and impressive surroundings. After dinner you can walk around and grab an expresso in the famous north beach area. Came here to celebrate a birthday with my aunt and uncle & husband. My aunt was the one who chose this restaurant. At first I was a little skeptical, because I don't live anywhere near North Beach, and my current go-to spot for Perisan food is Lavash in the Inner Sunset, which I absolutely love. Anyway, they were treating for a birthday, so we went along with it. I'm so glad we tried this restaurant! It has that old school charm. Once you sit down in the restaurant, you feel like this restaurant has made it's home in San Francisco for several years - not one of those trendy new ones on Eater's 38 Heat Map. The food was fantastic. For appetizers, we had the Baba Ganoush, which was quite tasty and different from how it's normally prepared. I felt like the texture was more whipped, and therefore more substantial than the regular baba ganoush. Also, the color was brighter red, instead of regular pale - not sure what they added, but it was nice and smoky. For entrees, 2 guests at our table ordered the Chelo-kebab Koobideh (Skewered mixture of beef and lamb with Basmati rice) - WOW!!! This one was fantastic. I feel like usually this can be a quite dry meat type of dish, but theirs was absolutely JUICY and bursting with flavor (hard to tell from pictures FYI). I had ordered the Spicy Joojeh Kebab (Boneless chicken thighs marinated in saffron and Basmati rice), which was good, but honestly not as juicy. It was a fine dish, but if returning, I would order the Chelo Kebab Koobidah next time. Service was great, friendly. Customers are filled with Persians, which is relieving to know that the restaurant is perceived to be authentic. Prices were not bad. I love the ambiance too - that old school San Francisco charm, that you can't get everywhere. Also, this place was featured on Check, Please! Placed a large order for delivery- family meal with many selections. 3 salads, Hummus, All skewers, Salmon and Shrimp. Ending with baklaba for dessert. First the order was 1+ later than quoted, so when the food arrived hot food cold and cold food warm. No good, spent almost $295 wasted, with bad quality. The koobideh and skewers were dry and the taste was not fresh. Then the food was never delivered to us directly as requested to the apartment number noted, it was left in a public area for us to find. Horrible experience and bad quality. Would not recommend delivery from this venue, maybe better at the venue. Gave it a 2 star, because all items were included, and loved the salad, rice and tomatoes!! Also ordering from Yelp.com is not good there is no way to contact the restaurant to let them know, instead you have to reach via phone and the host at the restaurant has no idea of what is happening. So you are out of luck if you have problems with quality or delivery. Not a good Friday dinner and such a bad experience, when this restaurant is rated to be #1 in SF for Persian food, sad if this is the best we can do Contacted the restaurant to make it right and I am still waiting for them to do the right thing. read more

I'm picky about my Persian food (okay, about any food!) and this place hit the spot. I don't know why so many Persian places in SF can't replicate the zereshk polo (saffron rice with barberries and chicken). The chicken should be on the bone, not boneless. It should be dark meat, not white. And it should be cooked well enough so it's ready to fall off the bone. The sauce is very specific. Maykadeh did it all. And the chicken was marinaded, with the flavors having seeped into the meat. (Pro tip: I ordered a side of saffron rice, which I always mix with my zereshk polo so it's not too tart from the barberries.) The eggplant bedemjan is TO DIE FOR, do not leave SF without ordering it! I'm looking forward to trying their fesenjan next. read more

We come from Palo Alto to have their juicy soltani :) Yesterday after a loooooong drive home we stopped by to pick up some delicious Iranian food. We ordered: - Soltani, which came over warm and buttery rice. The rice although wasn't as good as we were hoping. Being Iranian and all, we know good rice when we smell and taste it. Royal is the best so far, and this wasn't that. The soltani was delicious though and totally worth the drive! - Masto Moosir, this is one of my favorite Iranian appetizers because it's hard to make at home ;) it was a bit salty but still really yummy. Had some with my kabob and some with their warm pita bread. - BBQ Tomato, they usually give one with each other, but since mom and I were splitting we ordered one more. They gave some onion, basil (wish they gave other herbs too), butter and 2 warm pita breads. So yummy that we will make the drive once a month and get the same thing!! I guess they are going for somewhat luxurious, but hands down the most expensive persian restaurant I had been to. That aside, once we got seated, we legit were completely ignored. They came and took our order quickly, but it took almost 1.5 hours for our food to arrive and everyone who came after us got their food at most in 30 minutes. This is with us following up to see where our food is. I know what you are thinking, why didn't you just leave? Honestly we were committed to seeing how long it would take. THEN when we got the food, it took an additional half an hour to get our check. We maybe asked for it around 7 times until someone finally came. Maykadeh tops them all. Definitely try their Soltani. A little pricey but it could feed 2 people and when you eat the Barg (steak) kabob you will know why it's at the price it's at. The secret to good kabob is proper seasoning and not just the quality of the meat, which Maykadeh prides itself on. My koobideh was bland and tasteless. Not enjoyable at all. We ate there Saturday evening and arrived without a reservation. We were told to find a table outside to our liking and all was well. However, nobody brought us a menu for the longest time. And once we made our order the food did not arrive. All total we waited over an hour before our food arrived and by that time the temperature dropped, and we were just about to return home and prepare our own meal when the food arrived. I discovered that they had a large dining event going on in another part of the building that drew too many resources. I can understand that, and that I had arrived without a reservation. However, I really do think that if this were a good restaurant that they would have advised us of the long wait before we would be served. I could then decide to come back another day. I found it very discourteous that we were not advised beforehand, and more so that our long wait went completely unacknowledged without a word. I have been to many fine restaurants that often have long waits, and it is not the wait that is the problem so much as the lack of communication. And in my opinion that is not even a finer point of what service should mean. In the end, my meal was compromised by this. No doubt the restaurant is capable of delivering great food and service, it is just too bad that my experience was so bad. read more

One of the most longest Persian restaurant still in business in San Francisco for over 30 years. The location is not is a so safe area as San Francisco is just not the same as it was just 10 years ago. Your annual income should be at least above $90K if you want to order the items you like, because the food is very expensive here, unless an average of $100 to $250 per person is your cup of tea. The place is really for the wealthy folks and not the average person. read more
