Maydoon is one of my favorite restaurants in Sacramento! I came by for dinner with a good friend around 5 pm and we were seated right away. There's plenty of seating inside and they also have tables outside too which is great for people watching. There's also a lot of street parking and we got lucky with some A1 parking! Once we were seated, we already knew what we wanted and we ordered the hummus and pita for an appetizer, the Maydoon bowl with chicken for our entrees, and ice cream for dessert. We went with a group of 6 on a Thursday night. I had gone a few times. The dip trio is the best thing to try. It is. Three different dips.The pita that comes with it may not be enough- these are not even portions and I don't think there are free refills on the bread.if you already know which one you like- you can order a full serving of that one. The eggplant dip is more smokey and savory. There is a cucumber dill yogurt one, then the humus dip. There is a must musir dip, which is also a dairy based dip that my friend said is a "must" try We got different kabobs, and the lamb shank. All meats were extremely tender except the chicken- which was a little dry. We ordered "family" style-so they brought out all the meets on one platter and a large plate of rice to share. My friend brought me here for my first time and all I can say is, wow! I loved the simple, yet modernized decoration and how clean the restaurant was. The fresh flowers on the table were an added plus. My friend and I got the Maydoon bowl w/ chicken and I also ordered a side of falafel (not pictured). The falafel was the best falafel I've ever tasted! It came with a tatziki sauce and a green sauce (mix them together, chefs kiss). The Maydoon bowl though......highly recommend! Maydoon has been on my list for a WHILE now. I ended up visiting for a gift exchange and it did not disappoint! We made a reservation for 12, and although we were 15 minutes early, they were still able to seat us quickly. The interior was gorgeous. Definitely great lighting, upscale, and beautiful decor. They also had an outdoor patio. They had a seperate lunch menu, so I'm assuming their menu selection will change depending on the time you dine. I ordered the Maydoon Bowl and it was super fresh and flavorful. The chicken was tender and delicious. It was also super filling and I was able to take it home to have for dinner later. Something changed in their food quality! My husband and I drive 45 minutes each way to get maydoon. We have done it for years. However, today when we got our food home, it was horrible! The chicken was coated in something weird and the flavor was off!!! The weird coating rubbed off on my ground beef kabob! NOT Persian joojeh kabob! And the ground beef kabob was dry and no flavor. Again not Persian! I almost feel like the have new ownership and the new owners don't know how to cook Persian food. However, i called the restaurant and asked if they switched owners and was told no. Soooooo, they just changed the quality of their food. I grew up around the Persian culture and I even speak Farsi, so when I tell you this food is NOT right, believe it. Such a shame they changed their food. We will not be back. So Sad. This place is a local favorite. Recently, we dropped in for dinner. We ordered a bottle of the St. Finley Sauvignon Blanc for an accompaniment ($27). We had the Taste of Maydoon (with the Chicken Kabob) - a nice sampler ($27). We ordered Pita ($2) and the Dolmeh for sides ($8). Went here on a Saturday for lunch. Three of us each ordered the Maydoon bowl. I chose the falafel vs the chicken, lamb or ground beef. The bowl was very fresh lots of cucumbers tomatoes and spices. The falafel was really good would choose it again. We ordered the Must Khiar as an appetizer which was delicious! It's yogurt mixed with cucumber and mint served with pita. Plenty for three of us and it was tasty added to the Maydoon bowl. I checked in via Open Table right at noon which was my reservation time but they ended up canceling my reservation which was strange! Came for the Dine Downtown menu and it did not disappoint!! Fantastic food!! The traditional Ash was excellent and rich! The domeh were very tasty! FINALLY checked out Maydoon for dinner last night, but before I start, let me say that this review is based off of a to-go order. I ordered online for a pick-up and when I arrived, it was ready early - which I liked. The inside was so clean, modern and just slick looking, ya know? It was pretty empty at 5:15pm, but I assume they get pretty busy around dinner time. The inside had a massive bar and the servers looked like they were getting ready for the rush. We ordered the Chicken Maydoon Bowl, Chicken Shish Kabob and a side of pita bread with Must Khiar. Everything was so vibrate looking and tasted fresh. I absolutely loved the Maydoon Bowl, it was flavorful and the big pieces of chicken were very juicy. I ate half for dinner and saved the rest to have for lunch today (my mouth is water as I type this). My husband wasn't a huge fan of the Shish Kabob, but I think it's because he needed something with more flavor. The Must Khiar was refreshing and paired well with the massive sized pita bread - I'm used to the little triangle pieces that some places give out. I ordered the kebab plate, the meat was delicious, but it really stops there. The Persian salad was soaked in apple cider vinegar, which was very overpowering. We also ordered the eggplant appetizer which had an odd bitter flavor. I've been to Maydoon a few times now and the restaurant is open and welcoming. They have bar seating, indoor tables and outdoor seating. You'll want to check what time you're heading in because the menu changes throughout the day, with a lunch, happy hour and dinner menu. If you fall in love with an item it may not be available all day so keep track of which menu you're ordering from or check their website for the updated versions of each menu before you head in. I love the little outdoor seating area and whether you sit inside or outside their staff is really friendly and attentive. Definitely check out the cocktail menu, the drinks are really tasty and they have specials available that aren't always on the menu. On my last visit I ordered the Maydoon Wrap ($12) during lunch and I've also had the za'atar fries ($5HH), gyro ($10HH), dip duo ($7HH), zeytoun parvardeh ($5HH) during Happy hour. Everything I've tried has been delicious, and I need to come back to try dinner there. I highly recommend the Happy Hour though, which is Tuesday through Friday from 3pm-5pm. read more

So far the best restaurant (not just best Persian food) we have tried in Sacramento area. Service is amazing, food delicious. Even parking was easy to find. They have lots of vegan options. Make sure to try tahdigh with one of the khoresht (stews). Ghayme and ghorme sabzi and fessenjood were all delicious. They will make the stews vegan if you ask. We have gone here a few times now and I have tried different dishes and man they were all so good!! Make sure to get torshe and salad shiraze with any of the stews. They are both amazing. I know must -o-khiyar (yogurt dip) is popular but it is not vegan. Our waiter both times was an African American gentleman who I forgot his name. I won't be lying if I say, he was the reason we went back. He was the a delight. I wanted to make sure to give a shout out to him (sorry buddy I forgot your name). I highly recommend this place. I dropped in for a solo lunch at Maydoon Restaurant on this past Wednesday. It was my first time here. I underestimated how busy it would be for lunch on the celebratory day of love. They quickly filled up for lunch (mostly reservation). It's a popular place. And I understand why. My lunch was absolutely delicious! Gorgeous presentation. Fresh and clean tasting flavors. Down right tasty, everything was seasoned well. The interior is aesthetically beautiful... magazine cover worthy beautiful. Each table has a fresh flower arrangement. Plus the customer service provided by Sergio ( I think that was my waiter's name) was exemplary... attentive, friendly service with a smile. Even with a packed house, my food came out in relatively quick for a sit down experience. Maydoon serves up Persian cuisine. I ordered the Koobedeh Taste of Maydoon lunch. $19. It comes with a choice of ground sirloin or ground chicken skewer served with mast khiar (yougurt with cucumbers),salad, pitta, hummus, and basmati rice. I choose the ground sirloin. Even the serving plates were aesthetically beautiful having a casual earthy style blending in well with the decor and design theme. Oh my goodness... my eyes bugged out of my head when the plates were presented. The skewer serving was larger than what I thought it would be. To be honest, the entire amount of food was larger than I anticipated. The ground sirloin had a great grind giving it a denser texture, but still substantial. I liked the seasonings, not overpowering. Their signature salad dressing was delicious. They even sell jars of it $6. The basmati rice was fresh and fluffy. The pita was served warm. The hummus was creamy, smooth. The mast khiar was outstanding. Cool and refreshing. I am lactose intolerant but was able to enjoy this without any tummy aches. Maydoon is located on 150116th Street near the corner of 16th and P Street. It is in the midtown area so the parking garage is all street metered. Came to Maydoon recently and was absolutely amazed by the Chicken /Beef Soltani dish which is Marinated Chicken Thighs and Beef Charbroiled Ground Sirloin kabobs. The Chicken Soltani kabob was super delicious and is honestly one of the best chicken kabobs I've ever had in Sacramento. That is saying a lot coming from me as I'm middle eastern. Being Persian myself, I'm very critical of good Persian food. I have to say Maydoon is up there on the list of good options for Sacramento. I've gone multiple times and it never disappoints. My favorite dish is the Koobideh. You can also ask for two skewers where you'll get a chicken and beef option so you can try both! I also love Tahdig, which comes with a stew on top. They have two options of stew you can choose to add on top and those are Geimeh or Gormeh Sabzi. You can't go wrong with either. Their drinks are also really good! They have a pomegranate cocktail and it's tasty! The service is always really good when I go. I've had birthdays here and they're attentive and the food comes out pretty quickly. The ambiance is nice as well, nice decor but more on the minimalist side. The one thing I do wish is that they would add more Persian desserts to their menu.
