Great place to get some awesome tender beef steak on a kabob! Excellent Persian restaurant! Great naan bread with butter and feta! Excellent hardy and tasty Addassee lentil soup! Meaty and delicious Tahdig crispy rice with Gheymeh stew! Wonderfully tender, moist, and tasty Kabob Barg filet mignon beef on skewer marinated in sun-dried lime! Complex, sublime, creamy Bastani saffron and pistachio ice cream! Great and friendly team service! Available for lunch or dinner.

Back here again, and happy to say the experience remains just as positive as before. The ambience is clean, comfortable, and pleasant, and the service is attentive without being intrusive. The food continues to impress every time we visit. For our starter, we ordered the Eggplant Delight, which was flavorful and pairs perfectly with their warm, fresh bread. For the main course, we went with our usual favorites. The Lamb Shank was tender and full of flavor, the Chicken Koobideh was juicy and well seasoned, and the Chicken Soltani was perfectly cooked with a balanced blend of spices. Famous Kabob remains one of the best spots in Sacramento for flavorful Mediterranean food served in a welcoming setting. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

This long time and well established restaurant that features Persian food, was on my next "eager to try" list that also serves vegan and vegetarian options. My hero Bridget W. arranged another UYE for our small but loyal group of Yelpers: https://www.yelp.com/events/sacramento-uye-eat-your-veggies-famous-kabob ytl_=667dbcd827854ddb975c328a46d5241d&utm_medium=email&utm_source=email_event_reminder&utm_campaign=Apr-01-2025 When I got the notice that Famous Kabob was our next destination, I couldn't wait to try their cuisine! I wasn't that familiar with Persian food before. But every recommendation by Bridget W. is a sure thing in my book! When we arrived, the staff was very friendly and inviting. They put together some tables for what we thought would be a larger party. But as usual, a few Elite Yelpers say "I'M IN" but turn out to be no shows! Our party of 6 included me, Bridget W., Alex T., Janelle M., Jenny P., and Bettina C. Don't forget to check out their reviews also! We all gave the food two thumbs up! The menu has a large number of selections for the carnivore and vegetarian alike. I wasn't quite sure what to order, but put my faith in Bridget as she recommended the Impossible Koobideh Kabob which included Basmati Rice and a grilled tomato. The flavors were amazing! I also got to share some Eggplant Delight and naan with my dining companions. And even drank some hot Chai tea which was very good with sugar. I had so much food, that I ended up having to take left overs home. Enjoying my dinner a second time around was a real treat! I would love to return here again and try some of their other dishes. I have now become a huge fan of Persian food!

Famous Kabob has been at this location for over 30 yrs and continues to be the best Persian restaurant in town. From the moment I stepped in, the aroma of grilled meats, saffron, and fresh herbs tantalized my appetite. I ordered the Koobideh kabobs and the meat was juicy, and grilled to perfection. The Koobideh was flavorful and rich, while the marinated chicken kabobs were bursting with saffron and citrus, a delicious combination. Each dish was served with fragrant basmati rice and a grilled tomato. The ambiance was warm and elegant, with traditional Persian music playing softly in the background. Service was attentive, and the staff was very friendly. If you're looking to indulge in authentic, soul-satisfying Persian food -- especially kabobs -- this restaurant is a must-visit. Just make sure you come hungry!

Famous Kabob absolutely lives up to its name! The meats were perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection--Generous portions, fresh ingredients, and friendly service. A must-try for anyone craving authentic Persian food. Thanks! Anthonyxibarrax

Kashk-e-Bademejon. It's not pretty, but it's soooo worth trying here.
    Bridget W.

In my long ago omnivore days I used to be a regular at Famous Kabob, enjoying skewers of kabobs and mounds of rice sprinkled with sumac. Sometimes I would even drive across town during a lunch break just to have their amazing Kashk-e-Bademjoon and grilled naan. When I went vegan I thought I would never get to enjoy Famous Kabob again, but someone somewhere posted that they now had a vegan-friendly section of the menu and I immediately alerted one of my favorite dining companions to join me. It's been many years since I set foot in this Persian gem, I cautioned, but we were both more than willing to give it a shot. Like in a time warp, Famous Kabob has not skipped a beat and I couldn't be happier. The dark wood booths and giant chandelier remain and so do the familiar smells of saffron, cardamom, and mint. I devoured the Impossible Koobideh Kabob and thought to myself wow, if only more places seasoned plant-based beef this way... it was so delicious! We dug in to the eggplant dip (sans the kashke to keep it vegan) and it was just as flavorful as I remembered. I sipped hot tea as I added extra sumac to my Persian rice and marveled at how damn good this place is. If you haven't tried this Sacramento institution yet, you're doing your tastebuds a disservice. And don't let the Fulton Avenue strip mall location sway you. This one's worth the drive.

We loved the food! The servers were not super friendly but there was one man who came out from the back and continued to check on us and even offered us dessert and sang as we were celebrating a birthday! Very very kind gentleman Two lamb dishes and kobbideh all very good We have the berry rice below as well which was actually a really pleasant surprise option

Famous Kabob is my go-to for kabobs, especially the tasty koobideh. The chicken and barg are also delicious. I like starting with fresh naan (bread) and cheese with herbs, stuffed grape leaves or shallot yogurt, and ending with Persian ice cream or baklava with tea. The staff are nice and friendly, there's decent seating, and while the parking lot is small (10-12 spaces), you can usually find street parking nearby. This place is good for social meetings and even parties. The bathroom is clean and touch-less paper towels.

Great friendly service with fantastic tasting food, no wonder they have been in business for so many years. Ample free parking off the street. Great indoor seating with private booths. The staff make you feel at home.

    Burned all the way around!
    Mr. T.

This place has gone downhill. Every time I eat here the service gets worse, the food Is inconsistent and it's no longer sanitary. Just ordered to go and the Kebob was burned, the eggplant delight didn't taste the same and the person who handled the bread licked their finger first to take a sheet Of paper to wrap the bread with it. I had my employee pick up the food for me and when I called to inform them it's burned, the woman on the phone put me on hold and ignored me. Someone else picked up minutes later to use the phone not to even address me. I told him my issue and he also seemed annoyed and just said bring it back and hanged up. By far, the older woman that works there And her daughter are some of the worst people I witnessed in customer service. The older woman even demands tips before paying. I've been coming here for 20 years and I know what the food tastes like. If the two older gentleman's are not there I wouldn't touch this place. One in the front and one in the kitchen.

Did they stop serving the mint and cheese plate with the bread?

correct, they stopped this. I asked and sadly, no more unless you want to pay for it. Beware, they will charge a 25% tip called a service fee automatically.

    Hi, do they do deliveries?

I'm not sure about deliveries, but I'm pretty sure they cater.

Server did offer to let us choose 2 different meats for our two #41 Koobideh plates (2 beef skewers for $25), but I think we would have been better off just ordering one #61 All Koobideh plate (3 different meat skewers for $34). One plate has plenty of basmati rice for two people to share. She suggested the two #41 orders, instead of answering how much an extra order of rice would cost. Maybe you can't order a side of rice? Rice comes with each entree. By ordering the 2nd plate, she offered or included the $8 Bread Basket for no extra charge. It was my friend's birthday. I wanted to pay, and she wanted to order extra to go, so I wanted two separate bills, but it seemed too complicated to explain or disallowed. After the food was delivered to the table, server didn't check on us anymore. I guess the restaurant doesn't do anything special for birthdays. My friend thought all the koobideh tasted the same. I liked them in this order: 1) Lamb, 2) Chicken, and 3) Beef, but they're the same texture, so they aren't all that different. I should have ordered a different 2nd entree, instead of two Koobideh plates. The #18 Bademjan Borani eggplant appetizer was yummy. It did come with some bread, so you don't have to order the bread basket. The bread is served warm. The basmati rice was light and fluffy, but not flavorful or buttery. You can pay a $4 upgrade to switch the rice to salad or a fancier stir fried rice. Read the Vegetarian Dishes menu section to learn about the various fried rice or polo preparations. Our server suggested the Fava Bean Rice or Baghali Polo because it is a Persian New Year dish. Yelp reviewers recommended the Zereshk Polo, which includes barberries, a fruit similar to currants. $10 to add a skewer of veggies. $4 to add a salad is mentioned under the Vegetarian Dishes menu and Seafood & Combination Plates menu. I didn't like how the sugar cubes for the Persian Tea were served. It looked communal and exposed to the elements. You could see sugar dust on the serving bowl. Other Persian restaurants serve the sugar in a smaller covered bowl. Formal dining room. Lunch specials are Monday to Friday, 11 am to 3 pm, excluding holidays. Lunch prices range from $16-$20. 3 different $8 soup offerings: chicken barley, ashe reshteh, or green lentil.
