This is a no frills restaurant with great tasting food. The meal starts off with bread and butter. I would've preferred herbs with the bread, but this works. The kabob was flavorful and did not feel heavy or oily. I'd pass on the tadig next time - there wasn't enough crisp to the rice. I would definitely go back for the kabob. 9/10.

I have been coming to Famous Kabob for the past 35yrs and they have consistently served the best Persian food in Sacramento! The staff is always friendly, and the food is DELICIOUS! the beef Koobideh is always juicy and very tasty and the rice is fluffy and delicious.

Meaty and delicious Tahdig crispy rice with Gheymeh stew! Wonderfully tender, moist, and tasty Kabob Barg filet mignon beef on skewer marinated in sun-dried lime! Complex, sublime, creamy Bastani saffron and pistachio ice cream! Great and friendly team service! Available for lunch or dinner.

Back here again, and happy to say the experience remains just as positive as before. The ambience is clean, comfortable, and pleasant, and the service is attentive without being intrusive. The food continues to impress every time we visit. For our starter, we ordered the Eggplant Delight, which was flavorful and pairs perfectly with their warm, fresh bread. For the main course, we went with our usual favorites. The Lamb Shank was tender and full of flavor, the Chicken Koobideh was juicy and well seasoned, and the Chicken Soltani was perfectly cooked with a balanced blend of spices. Famous Kabob remains one of the best spots in Sacramento for flavorful Mediterranean food served in a welcoming setting. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

If you are looking for authentic-tasting Persian food in Sacramento, this is the place to go. Whether you get the beef or chicken kabobs, they never disappoint and are always tender and juicy, cooked to perfection. You should pair their homemade doogh (yogurt drink) with any rice disk ( it is available to go too). Persian food is usually on the pricier side, but they give you large portions that make up for it and big pieces of persian bread with entrees. The service is amazing every time I go. They are quick and don't make you feel like a burden when asking for extras like butter or sumac on the side for a takeout order.

This long time and well established restaurant that features Persian food, was on my next "eager to try" list that also serves vegan and vegetarian options. My hero Bridget W. arranged another UYE for our small but loyal group of Yelpers: https://www.yelp.com/events/sacramento-uye-eat-your-veggies-famous-kabob ytl_=667dbcd827854ddb975c328a46d5241d&utm_medium=email&utm_source=email_event_reminder&utm_campaign=Apr-01-2025 When I got the notice that Famous Kabob was our next destination, I couldn't wait to try their cuisine! I wasn't that familiar with Persian food before. But every recommendation by Bridget W. is a sure thing in my book! When we arrived, the staff was very friendly and inviting. They put together some tables for what we thought would be a larger party. But as usual, a few Elite Yelpers say "I'M IN" but turn out to be no shows! Our party of 6 included me, Bridget W., Alex T., Janelle M., Jenny P., and Bettina C. Don't forget to check out their reviews also! We all gave the food two thumbs up! The menu has a large number of selections for the carnivore and vegetarian alike. I wasn't quite sure what to order, but put my faith in Bridget as she recommended the Impossible Koobideh Kabob which included Basmati Rice and a grilled tomato. The flavors were amazing! I also got to share some Eggplant Delight and naan with my dining companions. And even drank some hot Chai tea which was very good with sugar. I had so much food, that I ended up having to take left overs home. Enjoying my dinner a second time around was a real treat! I would love to return here again and try some of their other dishes. I have now become a huge fan of Persian food!

Famous Kabob absolutely lives up to its name! The meats were perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection--Generous portions, fresh ingredients, and friendly service. A must-try for anyone craving authentic Persian food. Thanks! Anthonyxibarrax

Kashk-e-Bademejon. It's not pretty, but it's soooo worth trying here.

In my long ago omnivore days I used to be a regular at Famous Kabob, enjoying skewers of kabobs and mounds of rice sprinkled with sumac. Sometimes I would even drive across town during a lunch break just to have their amazing Kashk-e-Bademjoon and grilled naan. When I went vegan I thought I would never get to enjoy Famous Kabob again, but someone somewhere posted that they now had a vegan-friendly section of the menu and I immediately alerted one of my favorite dining companions to join me. It's been many years since I set foot in this Persian gem, I cautioned, but we were both more than willing to give it a shot. Like in a time warp, Famous Kabob has not skipped a beat and I couldn't be happier. The dark wood booths and giant chandelier remain and so do the familiar smells of saffron, cardamom, and mint. I devoured the Impossible Koobideh Kabob and thought to myself wow, if only more places seasoned plant-based beef this way... it was so delicious! We dug in to the eggplant dip (sans the kashke to keep it vegan) and it was just as flavorful as I remembered. I sipped hot tea as I added extra sumac to my Persian rice and marveled at how damn good this place is. If you haven't tried this Sacramento institution yet, you're doing your tastebuds a disservice. And don't let the Fulton Avenue strip mall location sway you. This one's worth the drive.

We loved the food! The servers were not super friendly but there was one man who came out from the back and continued to check on us and even offered us dessert and sang as we were celebrating a birthday! Very very kind gentleman Two lamb dishes and kobbideh all very good We have the berry rice below as well which was actually a really pleasant surprise option

Lamb chops with beef koobideh and salad (this combo is so good)

Famous Kabob is my go-to for kabobs, especially the tasty koobideh. The chicken and barg are also delicious. I like starting with fresh naan (bread) and cheese with herbs, stuffed grape leaves or shallot yogurt, and ending with Persian ice cream or baklava with tea. The staff are nice and friendly, there's decent seating, and while the parking lot is small (10-12 spaces), you can usually find street parking nearby. This place is good for social meetings and even parties. The bathroom is clean and touch-less paper towels.

Did they stop serving the mint and cheese plate with the bread?

correct, they stopped this. I asked and sadly, no more unless you want to pay for it. Beware, they will charge a 25% tip called a service fee automatically.

    Hi, do they do deliveries?

I'm not sure about deliveries, but I'm pretty sure they cater.

I decided to visit the restaurant based on Yelp rating. I normally don't select a restaurant because of the rating. I decide based on the menu. Their menu definitely got me interested. The food was very good. Upon recommendations from the cashier, I selected their Chicken Combo which had chicken and beef. I was happy that they offered between chicken breast and thigh meat. I also ordered à la carte of the Shish, lamb shank, chicken souvlaki, and Koobideh (ground beef). The different kabobs were seasoned well. The Shish is cubed beef kabob. They will cook it to your preference. I chose medium rare and it was cooked to my liking. The meal came with rice, pita bread (sorry if it's called something else) and hummus. I should have asked if the meats came with some type of sauce. Over, my kids and I enjoyed the flavor of the meats. The shank was very tender and fall off the bone as described by the menu. Almost everything is under $20. The one staff was pleasant and patient explaining the best he could what was included in the combo platter: 2 of each kabob, salad, bread, rice, beans $32. Ordering it to go we opened up the heavy parcel and saw 2 exact containers wondering if we ordered 2 of each. But no, it's the combo of marinated chicken, beef and lamb that were separately marinated and charcoal grilled. Great clean flavors, not overly spiced nor overcooked. Beans and rice were cooked correctly but a little bland, that needed yoghurt or chili paste for moisture. I was most impressed by the interior design and atmosphere. It seems like they are updating some parts of the cafe right now but there are a lot of very nice tables with super cute decor and even a conversation pit in the corner! For food, I tried the Sultani Combo, which came with one lamb and one chicken kabob over basmati rice with some salad, pickled cabbage, and two naan on the side for $27. I liked the flavor of everything but I felt the chicken kabob and naan were a bit dry at times, so I asked for some more tzatziki sauce on the side, which they happily provided. Overall, I felt that it was somewhat pricey, but maybe that is the cost of the lamb and upkeep of the large interior. We also tried the afghani burger which had some special type of sausage (sorry can't remember), deviled egg halves, cucumber, tzatziki, and fries wrapped in a pita for $16. My sister enjoyed this dish although if we had to say something, we could have done with maybe a few more sausage pieces in it. I tried the Sip of Herat (pistachio-flavored) latte for $7 which was pretty good, the coffee flavor was strong and I did not taste the pistachio very much. We also tried the Gul-e-kabul (rose-flavored) latte for $7, both were a good coffee flavor so I would recommend this place if you are a coffee enjoyer. Overall, I would totally recommend this place as a hangout/study spot, I would like to come back to try some of the bakery items and some of the other drinks such as the mocktails.
