I've given this restaurant a chance more than once, but this last time was the last straw. Previous visits we dismissed the rude staff and unprofessional behavior with the excuse that they were having a bad day. They food is good, don't get me wrong, but not so good to support the price. Average cost per person has been $50 - $75 per guest, and that's accounting for no more than one cocktail per person. But this last experience has turned me away for good. Made a reservation to celebrate our 31st anniversary and the staff had zero respect for the fact that we were celebrating an occasion. They wanted to sit us at a tiny, like 36" round table, literally a cocktail table, in the middle of the floor in between 2 large loud parties. Keep in mind that there are multiple empty dining tables that could seat 4 around the perimeter of the restaurant available. When I told the hostess the table was unacceptable and we would like a different table, she responded that she will "deal with us" when she has time. Then another staff came and told us we could not sit at one of the open table because they were being held for other guests. We ended up just walking out and celebrating at another nearby restaurant that respect and appreciate their guests. We had enough time to decide on every portion of our meal, I was a little upset, but Brian our server made up for it and he shared that they were short staff due to a call out. We had the grape leaves for an app and they were delicious. My daughter chose the lamb shank and I had the Maydoon bowl with shredded lamb and both far exceeded our expectations! There was a perfect ratio of pita to spread. The pita was warm and a perfect vessel for the spread. For dinner, Melissa and I both had the same thing: The Maydoon Bowl. This came with the choice of either shredded lamb, ground beef kebab, chicken kebab, or Falafel. Served with rice, cucumber, tomato, and onions, topped with pickled onions and our signature dressing. I went with the ground beef kebab, per our server's recommendation, and she did not steer us wrong. The meat was tender and flavorful. It was beautiful presentation, even just for a bowl. I enjoyed their signature dressing as well. Additionally, I loved how many pickled red onions they put on this dish. I hadn't heard of Maydoon before seeing this restaurant on the Dine Downtown Sac 2026 list; I originally planned to eat off that menu. However, after looking at both menus, I decided to order off the normal menu. First, I need to mention the service, as the hostess was very off-putting. My husband had called for reservations at 6PM. Upon arrival, I let the hostess know we had reservations and she said, "Oh, you're early." She said it in such an unhappy tone, that I immediately checked the time...it was 5:56PM. However, she did fail to check in on us, refill our waters, and brought the check out before asking if we wanted dessert (which I did). She was helpful when ordering though, so overall it was fine. I ordered the Maydoon Bowl with a side of Green Salad. (The waitress was kind enough to point out the bowl already came with Shirazi Salad so I added the Green Salad rather than the Shirazi.) We booked Maydoon for dinner on Thanksgiving Eve. We are new to the Sacramento dining scene and Persian Chicken Kabobs with Saffron Rice is a usual crowd pleaser in all the cities we visit. Maydoon is a modern, festive, and brightly-lit restaurant that has a bit of a sports-bar feel. The food and cleanliness, including bathrooms are superb. Very casual and great for sports fan, date night, family dinners, you name it. My only criticism is that paid street parking is super difficult to find even on a weeknight, so maybe plan on 1-2 blocks away. I started with the Mast Have cocktail - vanilla vodka with pomegranate and sour cherry was super refreshing and balanced sweet and tart. The yogurt gave it a nice smooth finish. The Stewed Eggplant appetizer was tomatoey and great with the soft, warm pita bread. Almost like having a miniature pizza bite. Beef Koobideh was decent though slightly on the saltier side. I liked the inclusion of blistered tomatoes and a large roasted green pepper. The star of the evening was the Persian Chicken Kabob - and definitely as for thigh meat. Well I finally came back to Maydoon for their Taste of Maydoon platter. Taste of Maydoon allows you to taste everything. There's a yogurt sauce, hummus, pitas, rice, protein of your choice, salad, grilled tomato and grilled pepper. It is so filling that it is usually both my lunch and dinner. I was surprised to find out that the price has dropped from $26 to $21. This is almost free. It's a huge plate of food and very tasty. It's beautiful to look at. The Mediterranean food here is better than any I have tried in the Bay area. If I live closer, I'd come here every week. I love the grilled chicken thigh. It's juicy and has a great flavor because it's been marinated. It's slightly charred from the grill. It is both slightly crunchy from the grill and yet incredibly juicy inside. They always grill it fresh so it is the hottest thing on your plate My husband had a different protein, he had Koobideh ground beef. You get a choice of ground beef or ground chicken. It wasn't too salty like another person said it was. To me, it was a bit bland. It tasted like a very tender and bland meatloaf. It's very pretty and has a nice shape. My husband liked the ground beef Koobideh but I prefer the chicken thighs. This place gets incredibly loud during a weekday. I highly recommend you come right when it opens at 11:00 a.m. By noon, the entire restaurant was full and extremely loud. As an introvert, it was a bit overwhelming for me to sit in the loud restaurant but when the food came, I was able to distract myself with the tasty food. One of the only places in town you can get Ghormeh Sabzi! The staff are very professional and polite here. The decor is also very well curated and beautiful! Even the design of the plates and bowls show that someone really cares about the ambiance of the restaurant. My friend ordered a koobedeh kabob dish that looked amazing. I ordered the ghormeh sabzi and loved it. The complex flavors and strong preserved bitterness of the lime really makes this dish so unique.
