The chicken, lamb, and beef were insanely tender, like melt in your mouth, don't even need to chew type of good. The saffron rice was absolutely perfect. Fragrant, rich, and so flavorful it honestly deserves its own fan club. And then the desserts As someone who takes sweets very seriously, it is basically a personality trait at this point, the baklava and ice cream were EVERYTHING. Sweet, creamy, slightly savory, and just so unique in the best way. We loved it so much we had to take a half pint home with us and I would do it again without hesitation. What a wonderful experience! We were greeted right away when we walked in & were sat right away. They had high chairs for kiddos & so my son was able to join us at the table in his own chair. I ordered their mule which was not only delicious but a great price too at $10.00! For my main I ordered the Taste of Maydoon which included a taste of everything! There was not a single thing on the entire plate that was not delicious. The meat was perfectly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The salad dressing was vinegary and refreshing! I started with the tehran nights cocktail. It was their take on a spicy marg, and i enjoyed it. I wish it was a little sweeter or had more citrus, but overall and good drink and lovely presentation. As a starter, I had the Kashk E Bademjan which was grilled eggplant mashed into a spread, topped with yogurt and mint oil, served with pita. It was flavorful for a dip/ spread. There was a perfect ratio of pita to spread. The pita was warm and a perfect vessel for the spread. For dinner, Melissa and I both had the same thing: The Maydoon Bowl. This came with the choice of either shredded lamb, ground beef kebab, chicken kebab, or Falafel. Served with rice, cucumber, tomato, and onions, topped with pickled onions and our signature dressing. I went with the ground beef kebab, per our server's recommendation, and she did not steer us wrong. The meat was tender and flavorful. It was beautiful presentation, even just for a bowl. I hadn't heard of Maydoon before seeing this restaurant on the Dine Downtown Sac 2026 list; I originally planned to eat off that menu. However, after looking at both menus, I decided to order off the normal menu. First, I need to mention the service, as the hostess was very off-putting. My husband had called for reservations at 6PM. Upon arrival, I let the hostess know we had reservations and she said, "Oh, you're early." She said it in such an unhappy tone, that I immediately checked the time...it was 5:56PM. After seeing we only arrived four minutes prior to our stated time, I was worried how the service would be here. Fortunately, our waitress was genuinely friendly. However, she did fail to check in on us, refill our waters, and brought the check out before asking if we wanted dessert (which I did). She was helpful when ordering though, so overall it was fine. I ordered the Maydoon Bowl with a side of Green Salad. (The waitress was kind enough to point out the bowl already came with Shirazi Salad so I added the Green Salad rather than the Shirazi.) My meal was delicious - very flavorful and filling! I had the Combo (a scoop of Persian ice cream and a baklava) for dessert. I personally didn't care much for the baklava, but enjoyed the ice cream. Well I finally came back to Maydoon for their Taste of Maydoon platter. Taste of Maydoon allows you to taste everything. There's a yogurt sauce, hummus, pitas, rice, protein of your choice, salad, grilled tomato and grilled pepper. It is so filling that it is usually both my lunch and dinner. I was surprised to find out that the price has dropped from $26 to $21. This is almost free. It's a huge plate of food and very tasty. It's beautiful to look at. The Mediterranean food here is better than any I have tried in the Bay area. If I live closer, I'd come here every week. I love the grilled chicken thigh. It's juicy and has a great flavor because it's been marinated. It's slightly charred from the grill. It is both slightly crunchy from the grill and yet incredibly juicy inside. They always grill it fresh so it is the hottest thing on your plate My husband had a different protein, he had Koobideh ground beef. You get a choice of ground beef or ground chicken. It wasn't too salty like another person said it was. To me, it was a bit bland. It tasted like a very tender and bland meatloaf. It's very pretty and has a nice shape. My husband liked the ground beef Koobideh but I prefer the chicken thighs. This place gets incredibly loud during a weekday. I highly recommend you come right when it opens at 11:00 a.m. By noon, the entire restaurant was full and extremely loud. THE BIG: Located in downtown Sacramento near the midtown area and right next to John C. Fremont park. This place has indoor and outdoor seating available and a large menu to choose from. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with the wife and two friends on a low key thursday night. We snagged an outdoor table and just got the tailend of happy hour in which the drink prices were very reasonable. There aren't any umbrellas so it gets really hot until the sun sets. As for food, we got the streak, lamb chops, hummus with pita and chicken shawarma. All had a huge heaping of rice and grilled tomato. Low key, I'm a big fan of the grilled tomato, it's charredness helps bring out the tomato flavor. My favorite meat was the lamb. Something about the small one-two bites of the bone-in meat makes it so much fun. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, the damage done for a ton of food and drinks was around $150.
