The service and ambiance are the standouts of Rumi's oasis, an Afghani-inspired cafe and bakery. The employee (Malalai) was super helpful and very friendly! I was most impressed by the interior design and atmosphere. It seems like they are updating some parts of the cafe right now but there are a lot of very nice tables with super cute decor and even a conversation pit in the corner! For food, I tried the Sultani Combo, which came with one lamb and one chicken kabob over basmati rice with some salad, pickled cabbage, and two naan on the side for $27. I liked the flavor of everything but I felt the chicken kabob and naan were a bit dry at times, so I asked for some more tzatziki sauce on the side, which they happily provided. Overall, I felt that it was somewhat pricey, but maybe that is the cost of the lamb and upkeep of the large interior. We also tried the afghani burger which had some special type of sausage (sorry can't remember), deviled egg halves, cucumber, tzatziki, and fries wrapped in a pita for $16. My sister enjoyed this dish although if we had to say something, we could have done with maybe a few more sausage pieces in it. I tried the Sip of Herat (pistachio-flavored) latte for $7 which was pretty good, the coffee flavor was strong and I did not taste the pistachio very much. We also tried the Gul-e-kabul (rose-flavored) latte for $7, both were a good coffee flavor so I would recommend this place if you are a coffee enjoyer. Overall, I would totally recommend this place as a hangout/study spot, I would like to come back to try some of the bakery items and some of the other drinks such as the mocktails. read more

Recently came back here to get some samoas. Looks like they remodeled inside the whole place! They took out the grocery store portion and made it a huge restaurant with tables with really cool wall art. Inside is really hot still. I hope they end up fixing the AC. The samoas were good and made fresh but I needed the chutney, and they didn't provide it to us. Not sure if it was supposed to come like that. read more

We arrived around 6:30 p.m. and placed our order. Our appetizer and one of our entrées arrived within about 20 minutes, but the other entrée never came. After waiting another 15 minutes, I went up to ask about it, only to find out they had completely forgotten the order. It took another 20 minutes before the missing dish was finally brought out. When it arrived, I also had to remind them that it was supposed to come with Afghan bread, as advertised on the menu, which they appeared to have forgotten as well. To make matters worse, this is also a coffee shop, yet their coffee machine was out of service. I was looking for a place to go on a Sunday for some coffee and dessert and Rumi's came up in the Yelp list. I was amazed that is was on the Trader Joe's side of the shopping center I frequent.. Very nicely decorated and an inviting space. We also were happy to discover that they also had chicken Kabob's and wraps. We both had to try this to go for dinner. I got the lamb and beef gyro and my girlfriend got the falafel wrap. We also got 4 pieces of Pistachio Baklava. First the food was amazing, the wraps were both some of the best I've had, but the real star of the show is the baklava and the desserts too numerous to mention but if you like pistachio and Dubai chocolate you won't be disappointed. Its a beautiful store/coffee shop with gracious owners that greet you with a smile when you walk in. Halal and a favorite spot of my daughters for coffee drinks and falafel. They have many interesting items and delicious desserts and food. We bought the chicken kabobs and the falafel plate. Service was great and we enjoyed our food. You can eat in or take to go. I happened upon Rumi's Oasis while walking the Trader Joe's shopping plaza. I dropped my car off at America's Tire and had an hour to kill. I wanted some real food and saw they were open. I went inside and was greeted by wonderful staff. I asked if the kitchen was open at 10:30am and they said yes. So I proceeded to order the combo Beef and Chicken plate and a cup of coffee. The food came out within 10-15 minutes, I wasn't in a rush and it was delicious. The chicken wasn't dry, the beef wasn't dry, and both were seasoned well. The basmati rice and flat bread were the stars for me. As good as the meats were, the rice and bread were better. Both were fluffy and had a real savoriness to it. It was so satisfying. The coffee was strong and dark but not bitter. It was similar to percolating coffee so the flavors were rich, deep and strong. Overall the staff, food, and service was excellent. I'd stop here for Middle Eastern food any day. read more

I was a regular customer at Rumi's Oasis for several years and genuinely loved their baked goods, especially their cakes. There used to be a young employee who was always polite, welcoming, and consistent with pricing. I ordered a mango cake for a party that cost $57, and I felt it was well worth the price because it was delicious. However, when I ordered the exact same cake just two weeks later, the employee checked with the owner and suddenly the price increased to $75. The inconsistency didn't sit well with me, especially over such a short period of time. After that employee left, I interacted with the owner more often and unfortunately my experiences became increasingly negative. On one visit, my friends and I had purchased food and were enjoying our meal when a wedding party arrived. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the owner sent the cashier to our table and essentially asked us to leave so there would be room for the larger party. We had already paid for our meals (as customers) and were just sitting and enjoying our food, and the experience felt very disrespectful. On another visit, we stopped by with friends for pastries. While overseeing a remodeling project, the owner approached us and asked, "Are you going to be ordering food?" The tone made us feel like we were inconveniencing her simply by being there. The owner has seen us many times but behaves like she doesn't know us. This was especially disappointing considering how much money I had spent there over the years and how many friends and family members I had brought to support the business. The pastries and cakes are still very good, but customer service matters. Unfortunately, the way we were treated repeatedly made us feel unappreciated as loyal customers, and that's why I can no longer recommend the experience. read more

This is a charming place for snacks and treats. It's small, with one aisle of spices/seeds/snacks, followed by the bakery section and the register. Around the aisle is a seating area with many tables. There are also some tables outside too. They have a variety of snacks, drinks, etc. Everything in the bakery section looks delicious. The staff is friendly. They have a few pistachio desserts (roll cake/milkshake) which I love, along with Dubai Chocolate. They also sell Rose Water (which can be used to make Turkish Delight). Stopped in after shopping at Trader Joe's & Kohl's. This is such a cute place. Love the decor. It's quite. Tried the qaimaq chai. I had no idea what qaimaq was but I love trying new things so I ordered it then researched after I received my order. So Qaimaq chai is a rich & creamy tea made by combining strong black tea but I think this was a pink tea cuz it was pinkish. Combine it with qaimaq which is a thick clotted cream. It's A traditional drink in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. It was slightly pinkish & it was so good. Staff were friendly. We've been wanting to try Rumis Oasis for a while. It's located in the same parking lot as Trader Joe's grocery store and the new Skecher's shoe store. With that being said, ample parking in this shared parking lot. As you enter the door, there's a register counter to you right. There's a few aisles of grocery items. Towards the back, there's where you can order a meal. There is a kiosk to make your order and pay. The lady behind the food counter was very nice. They have a beautiful dining area. I was ready to go to the nearby Boba spot here in Elk Grove but a couple of doors down was this gem. It appears middle eastern grocery store with a deli that sells gyro dishes and a bakery. I purchased their Pistachio drink and as for baked goods: Dubai Fudge Cheese cake and a simple Baklava. PISTACHIO MILKSHAKE - it has bits of pistachio on the top. It tasted very delicious and different for my palate. It was delicious. DUBAI CHEESECAKE - the first layer tasted like a fudge like chocolate cheese cake, another layer of chocolate cake and not quite sure if there's ganache. It was also delicious topped with a green type icing that tasted like pistachio. PLAIN BAKLAVA - this was very delicious topped- it had a creamy flavor to it and the flaky layers of the phyllo. Before coming in, I called to ask if I could have a pizza and bolani boxed to go, as I wanted to take those items home while still dining in and ordering other food at the restaurant. Unfortunately, the phone interaction was extremely uncomfortable. I was questioned repeatedly about why I wanted the food boxed to go even though I explained that I was planning to bring my family in to dine. The call was then passed to another person, who proceeded to ask me the same questions again my name, phone number, why I wanted the food to go, and why I was planning to dine in if I wanted some items boxed. The whole experience made me feel like I was being interrogated for making a very simple and reasonable request. There was no reason for the interaction to feel so suspicious or uncomfortable. Customers should be able to order food to go while also dining at the restaurant without being made to feel as though they are doing something wrong. The reason for the low rating is that it took them 15 min for our drinks and pastries and they didn't even give them all I asked. I have been to many places that serve coffee and food to go with it. Some have excellent coffee. Others have good food. A few have both. But Rumi's Oasis in Elk Grove stands above the rest, not simply because of what they serve, but because of the atmosphere they create. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the friendliness of the staff makes you feel genuinely welcome. My visit there wasn't even planned. I had been shopping at Trader Joe's nearby and decided to stop in for something to eat. The food was very good...good enough that I could easily tell you about it...but what stayed with me was the overall experience. In fact, it impressed me so much that the next day I drove five miles from East Elk Grove just to return. Not because I needed another cup of coffee, but because I wanted to enjoy that same welcoming atmosphere once again. As I sat there, I realized why it felt so familiar. It brought me back to two of my favorite places on State Street in Santa Barbara...Lilac Pâtisserie and Lokum. Each has its own personality, yet together they represent everything I enjoy: excellent coffee, inviting surroundings, good food, and the simple pleasure of slowing down. Rumi's Oasis somehow captures that same feeling in one place. It isn't trying to be either of them. It simply evokes the warmth, comfort, and quiet charm that make those cafés so memorable. While I was there they were preparing party platters of chicken, bread, roasted vegetables and kabob. They had lots of snack items. The service was great. The you g man greeted me and as I was there many other customers came in and were quickly greeted. There was a gentleman cleaning the meat/butcher area. There was no meat. I asked why there was no meat. He said today is cleaning day. Well that is good to hear that a halal butcher takes days off to clean. Nice little bakery cafe. Locally owned and operated is the best businesses to patronize. When it is time for a meal or a quick snack. You are better off finding a local business and getting real food. OMG came to check this place out cause we saw it on social media. It's a store but a restaurant inside. Has the lamb and beef brown and the sandwich. The meat was so tender and juicy. The rice was buttery and everything else was so deliciously flavored. Totally would recommend. The best part is we got 2 pastries to go and some pita bread and It was under $40. read more

Nice ambience for a midday dessert or meal on the go. The place is a middle eastern grocery with an oasis-like feel. You can have a piece of a sweet treat such as baklava or chocolate cake while out shopping. The tables area is quite pleasant for enjoying with a friend or a book. This is quite a decorating/furnishing accomplishment in what would be an unremarkable strip mall space. (They definitely made it "more.") It's nice that this is local. Elk Grove getting cool places like this is a good sign. I needn't have to go to Midtown Sac for nice spots like this. read more

Since opening a few years ago, I have gone in a few times. Service is consistently a miss, the staff is not confident in the answers they give. The fix is training and that would most likely require the owner to be accountable themselves. Consistency is important, this particular time I went in for a Dubai donut at 9am and they did not have it, also stated the lady that makes them is not there yet and might be available at 11am. I can't work with a might ! I am also not willing to drive back. The store is clean and stocked pretty well. I am over this store and the not good customer service and items missing from the menu almost every visit. I believe my review is echoed by many other Yelpers. When I went to ask, the cook said the lady forgot to tell the cooks about the order so we just had a pastry. 2nd visit, no one helped us. A woman was on the phone so we went to order at the kiosk. Had food here shortly after they opened. Was ok but have never been back. My husband is Turkish so we are often on the look out for Turkish grocery products. We usually go to Adam's market for items but every once an a while I walk in to look for common products we are in need of. EVERY time I have come in I have been ignored and not helped when I am clearly waiting to check out or asking for a product in a case. Thought I would Give them one last try. I was again ignored and finally found an employee to get me a meat product from the case. They then old me every single sausage product ( about 15) were expired and they couldn't sell it to me! Were they using the product in food orders??? Why is it that I always experience such poor service? Never will I come here again and I'm honestly surprised they are still in business. read more
