Just finished a move with Daryl, Jeremy and Garrett. (Sorry for any misspellings). What a great group of movers. I had a 20' U haul that has many miscellaneous boxes and items that ranged from very heavy to extremely fragile to include a three person sofa, buffet, king size bed box-springs,head boards, and 565 pound safe. In addition to unloading the truck insanely fast, all three of these guys were polite, friendly, and very respectful of the property. They were very mindful of not damaging walls or items. This included moving the sofa with recliners down narrow wood stairs perfectly. Very impressed with the hard work too. They moved that heavy safe across a hill and through a very narrow door. I didn't think it was able to fit but they made it happen without a hitch. These guys ask very reasonable rates, actually communicate with you almost instantly, don't plays games (like other companies that only accept cash or charge for the commute. They also offer military/DoD/repeat customer pricing. Highly recommend. Made a very challenging move a breeze and very fairly priced. Would absolutely recommend and use again. Pay attention to this review and also the other reviews. I have had a lot of mediocre movers over the years but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. Until Maybaum, where you don't even get what you pay for. I scheduled a 2-man moving crew more than three weeks in advance of my move. I called and emailed Maybaum a week before the move just to make certain they would show up on time. Everything with a move is time sensitive with the windows I have at my old apartment complex loading dock/elevators and the new apartment complex. In addition, I scheduled Verizon to show up at my new apartment complex later in the day to connect Internet/TV. Long story short, Maybaum reassured me when I called to confirm that I was on the schedule and they would show up on time. Unfortunately, the day of the move I received a text from Maybaum saying a team member was sick and they were going to be a half hour late but they would bring a 3rd helper since we were not on time. Check their Yelp reviews - they frequently say an employee called in sick. A half an hour late is acceptable, but I then received another text saying it was going to be an hour and a half. Then, another text saying an additional hour. At this point, my time slot at the loading dock expired and the apartment complex was breathing down my neck to get out for the next resident move. Finally, after three hours one Maybaum employee showed up. This was three hours past the time they were scheduled. Moreover, there was no additional help coming. I ended up moving my own stuff with the help of the one Maybaum employee. I was totally screwed because I already rented the truck and made dual arrangements with the apartment complexes. As a result, I had no choice but to move my own stuff. Adding insult to injury, I missed my Verizon internet appointment because of Maybaum and the soonest they could come back was a week later. So now I have no TV / Internet because of Maybaum and I am telecommuter. They ruined my moving day that I carefully planned for and ruined what should have been an exciting first couple of days in my new home. At the end of the day, they did offer a discount. However, my back and patience were tested because of their failure to provide the service I ordered. read more

I called. No answer. Completely unacceptable behavior - AVOID THIS COMPANY! They never showed up, leaving me to scramble to find help at the last minute, miss a flight and spend far more money than I planned. Having had a bad experience with a moving help provider not showing up before, I was feeling overly cautious, so I contacted Daryl (not sure of spelling) on Tuesday for a move on Friday. I told him I was nervous given previous bad experiences, confirmed all details with him, and told him I would check in again on Thursday. On Thursday, I confirmed time with him as between 10 and 11 am the next day. On Friday, at around 10:30 am, I texted requesting an eta, to which I received no response. An hour later, I sent another one saying I was starting to freak out because I hadn't heard from them. I also called several times throughout the day, but the voice mail box was full. I understand that sometimes circumstances mean that you may not make an appointment, but utter lack of any and all communication is beyond unacceptable. read more

If I could give this business 0 stars I would. My fiancée and I scheduled for Daryl and his team to help us move and had a confirmed time for 12pm. At 12:30 after no movers or hearing anything from Daryl, I decided to call to see what was going on. After several tries via phone call (none were answered) I received a text to tell me that he had no idea where his team was and that he couldn't get ahold of them. Daryl didn't know where his team was, didn't offer any alternative and what upset me the most was that he didn't even apologize for messing up our moving day. So this review is really in 2 parts. This first is the management of the movers and second is the movers themselves. The movers themselves were fantastic. Professional, courteous and efficient. I can't say enough good things about Jeremy and his partner. Stand up guys that work hard. On to the actual management of the company. I was first asked to move my pickup time from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. Whatever, fine. It's annoying. I'll live. The movers didn't actually show up until after 6. I attempted to call the person who did my appointment/estimate initially but apparently he is only capable of answering his phone when there is an opportunity for revenue. I was also charged more than 10% over my initial estimate as it 'took longer than expected' well of course it did. I had reserved loading docks, had friends coming to help, etc under the supposition that you would, you know, show up within an hour of your scheduled time. This whole thing has been just an embarrassing joke for this company and I have already steered multiple people to other, more reliable local options. read more

After having moved twice already to different apartments around this city, this third move just a year after the last and with both of us having just finished grad school felt completely overwhelming. I wanted to avoid the extra cost, but when I saw how unprepared we were to get out of our old place, my fiancé won me over and we decided to search for a couple of movers. Unfortunately, we waited until the absolute last minute to make that decision for sure, and that meant we were calling places the day of. Most of the quotes were higher than we wanted to pay or the services were unclear on their website, but Maybaum Movers seemed like a fantastic deal at $25/person/hour with a minimum time of 2 hours. We made a very fortunate choice, because they were absolutely excellent. The two guys who came by to help us were incredibly kind, friendly, and effective. Nothing was broken during the move, they worked efficiently, and they were considerate of all of our requests. Thanks to the two of them, we almost had fun during move-in day, at least while they were around. We all worked together extremely well and got the job done. Our one and only stumbling block with the whole day was that it did take quite some time for them to arrive, but I give them somewhat of a pass on that because we had not scheduled in advance in any way with them. My only request would have been to get more frequent updates about how far away they were, considering that they told us they'd be there in an hour and it took a little over two hours for them to arrive. After looking around for an affordable moving company, my roommates and I stumbled upon Maybaum Movers. We were initially skeptical because of how great the pricing was, but after reading the reviews went ahead and hired them. We used Thumbtack to schedule and it couldn't have been easier. Daryl and his team were extremely timely and thorough in answering any and all of our questions. When it came down to moving day, all of our expectations were exceeded. We had somewhat of a complicated move since they would need to stop at three different homes to pick up boxes and furniture and then move that into the third floor of an apartment complex with no elevator. Zach and Dino helped us with our move and they were absolutely delightful. They were right on time and introduced themselves as soon as they arrived. They were both extremely polite and professional men and were a dream to work with. The move was quicker and easier than I could have expected and the quote that Daryl and his team had given us was spot on. We hired Daryl and his team for our move in August of 2015. In a nutshell, they were absolutely professional, reasonably priced, timely and very polite -- would hire them again for any moving jobs in the future. His team arrived on time. We have moved a few times in the past and have never had the moving guys introduce themselves to us one by one prior to working. Daryl and his team worked for 12 hours moving the contents of our house, including a 500 pound table top for us without any damage or problems. At then end, we asked for help moving a washer and refrigerator and they happily helped us. It was the best moving experience we have ever had! read more

We just had Maybaum help with our move and they were fantastic. We rented the truck and Maybaum sent Zach and Joe to take care of the moving. They were efficient, professional, and very polite. They came in and had a plan for how to get everything into the truck, which they did expertly and with no damage. I even had an old IKEA dresser that Zach volunteered to shore up so that it could survive the move, which it did. They were also happy to help out with anything we needed within the time we had them reserved -- they even moved a refrigerator that was already at the new house. On top of all that the cost was very reasonable. I would certainly recommend Zach and Joe (and Maybaum) to anyone looking for some help with a move. It definitely made ours much less stressful. Update 4 months later - after I filed a complaint with the better business bureau, the owner told them he'd be refunding me $100 as a goodwill gesture. That never happened either. Completely horrendous customer service, all empty words just to appease the customer at the moment with no follow through. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! I am only giving one star as there is no option for zero stars. The owner has no compassion for anyone and is flat out rude, if he actually replies. I scheduled movers weeks in advance to come help me move as I am physically unable to do it myself. The owner was originally very helpful and responsive and I got confirmation the day before. However, on the day of the move, the movers did not show up and I was unable to reach anyone. I tried reaching the owner multiple times via email (no one can be reached via phone) and still got no replies. He finally responded after I sent 4 emails (only when I ultimately told him I would be filing a complaint) with "My leaders did not do their job, made decisions without me and ultimately made me look very stupid which in turn left you all hanging." I asked him to pay me back for the fees I incurred as a result of his men did not showing up and again, my email went unanswered. I gave him one last chance and asked him to make it right, I got this attacking email reply: "Ya know what. File your complaint. As a single father and a business owner such as yourself I know the pain. But I don't go throwing it around as a bargaining chip. I charge the lowest possible prices to make it easier on folks in certain situations. I'm sorry it didn't work out and you feel the need to attack how I feed my family to get some money out of me. Then that just shows your character. File your complaint. Feel better about your decision and thank you for your understanding or lack thereof." As you can see, he has zero compassion or remorse about anything, nor the fees/stress his men caused me. This is not how to run a business, and is so unprofessional, it's a SCAM. The second stab at Maybaum, two people whom I will name later arrived late, moved stuff pretty well, then stole $15,000 worth of my jewelry. Needless to say, I don't recommend them. I have used Maybaum twice in the past two years and they were phenomenal. Wanting to reward them, I hired them for a move where I only needed assistance loading my truck. I spoke to Darryl on the phone 2+ weeks in advanced and we confirmed my location, the number of movers, the date, and time. I reached out to Darryl on the morning of my move to confirm and no response. When no movers showed up, I called to no response but an auto-text to text him to leave a message. I called and texted Darryl every thirty minutes until 2 hours passed. My move was extremely time sensitive and Maybaum is completely at fault for ruining my move. I can only speak about my own experience with Maybaum Movers and no one else's as it seems there have been several negative experiences with this company according to the Yelp reviews. All I needed were a couple movers to help me unload my rented moving truck, and place my stuff in my new apartment. Daryl sent a crew of two guys to my place, they got to work immediately, and in no time finished the job. They were courteous, professional, and efficient. The rate I was charged for this unload could not be matched by anyone else I contacted, and I contacted 5 different moving companies. Most of the quotes given to me for this job by those I contacted were ridiculous -- $250 minimum, including a fee for them to drive to my location, wtf -- when all I needed was a couple people to just unload my truck. Daryl's quote was $150 cheaper than the next cheapest. I highly recommend these guys: cheap, efficient, professional, courteous. read more

The movers were very professional and nice to work with. Nothing stopped these guys to get my huge couch upstairs, that was very smart. I had only one issue where their truck was almost half full with other people's stuff, I found that out later after having to stuff things into my own car. Definitely recommend for moving a small one-bedroom. The movers were polite and efficient. And you can't beat the price. They were, however, slightly slow, and young (21 and 19), and packed the truck...interestingly, to say the least. I am a person who cannot sit around and watch while others do work so I helped carry boxes in during the rain. I also have to give them credit because I live on the top floor of a 3 story building that has no elevator so Ricky and Christopher had to carry everything upstairs. When it came time to pay things got a bit confusing but it worked out in the end. The fee was more than reasonable. I recommend Maybaum if you have a small move and need to save some cash. Remember that the movers only get half of the fee so be sure to tip. read more

Heres the experience I had with Maybaum Movers. I first used them about 4 years ago. They were great when they moved me into my Silver Spring apartment, so I decided to use them again. But this time, their movers broke my futon frame (by putting it underneath a lot of heavy stuff in the truck), scratched up the surface of my kitchen table and shattered my standing mirror. So I emailed them. Someone named Daryl got back to me and said that their insurance would offer $18 dollars and he offered a friends and family discount for future moves. I got back to him and said the frame costs $235 and that I wouldn't want to recommend them to my friends and family, because what if the movers broke their stuff? Daryl said he was willing to come to some sort of agreement. So I asked for $200 dollars. And he never got back to me. So I wouldn't suggest using them. read more

We just used Maybaum movers to pack a pod and also move our items to our in-laws as our new home is being built. Daryl and Zack were prompt and very professional. Recommended by a friend, they did not disappoint. Daryl and Zack packed the pod flawlessly and then moved our stuff into a truck and then moved us into another home. Plus that Daryl knew how to setup our sleep number bed and asked to move something to the basement, he did not complain one bit. I highly recommend them for your next moving adventure. read more

The driver that I hired through them put a 26 foot truck in a ditch in Florida and I had to pay for a Wrecker to pull it out and when I took that cost of what I owed them they became very ugle. I hired Maybaum to help me bring a fridge from the store. Since both the store and my place were located in Alexandria and this is where the moving company was based, it seemed like a good and logical choice. High rating on another web site and low rates didn't hurt either. I contacted Daryl by phone and email. He was very nice and businesslike on the phone/email. We established time/place and other parameters of the job. I confirmed everything by email and received a response. At the time of the move, however, I received a text from Daryl stating that he spoke with the crew and "there was an accident between them and another car." He also wrote that he was working "on sending a replacement crew so you're not left hanging." "Left hanging" I was, though, since he never got back with me. I was lucky to find a replacement myself. I texted Daryl back 1.5 hrs after his text that I no longer needed his services. Daryl didn't get back with me by that time or thereafter. I'll leave it up to you to decide what to think of car accidents with movers on the day of the move. I have my thoughts about them, but who knows if they are right. The fact is, however, that it was a very simple two-hour move and Maybaum was not reliable. In the end, I was lucky to pull it off after they stood me up. read more

Day of Brandon was amazing! His partner got stuck in traffic so he moved everything but my couch and a desk by himself. Very professional I would hire them again even though one mover was late and the admin staff was not the most responsive (getting a confirmation of the time and price took 2-3 days, a few days before the move). My wife and I moved our one bedroom apartment to our new house with the help of John and John from Maybaum Movers today. We cannot say enough good things about the two of them and their service - very professional, very careful, and very thorough. We had what I thought was a huge amount of stuff - over 40 boxes plus furniture. The team was able to move it all out, pack the truck, and move everything in to our new home (15 minutes away) in four hours. No hidden fees, no additional costs, just hard work. The day of my move @10am when we were supposed to move, nothing. I contacted them, no answer. 11am, nothing. I contacted them again, no answer. 12pm nothing, I frantically contacted them, no answer. I was panicking. I had to move that day, and the worst part was that i tried calling, texting, emailing, any way i had of reaching them lead to no response. Finally we called a different moving company who finally helped us move. BUT MAYBAUM MOVERS WERE THE WORST COMPANY WE COULD HAVE CHOSEN. UNPROFESSIONAL, UNRELIABLE, AND JUST PLAIN HORRIBLE. DO NOT HIRE THEM. They only finally got back to us when we told them to cancel our move, and that we already hired a different company. I moved 2 Weeks Ago and all I have to say is... this company was awesome !! Daryl always kept in touch with me If I had questions and gave me the information I need. The moving day Joe and John arrived in time. I was surprised to see how fast my stuff was ready to go to the new place! When we arrived to the new address all my stuff was in the new apartment in no time :). They stayed with me until all my furniture and my boxes were in place, and finish their job earlier than I expected. The price was one of the best rates from several companies I talked with. Another seamless move from Maybaum movers! With less than a week's lead, Daryl was able to accommodate my move at a busy time of year. Maybaum team arrived on time and went straight to work. Two men completed the move in 5 hrs, when other movers quoted 4 men and 6-7 hours. The guys were careful, fast and very attentive. Found this company through Hire A Helper.com. Needed my 1 bedroom apartment moved into a POD container. Decent reviews on the site, price was reasonable and they were available. I explained to owner - person who took order what I needed and items that were to be moved as well as time. We also confirmed via email. On the day of the move, two kids showed up - not professional movers. They had gotten lost trying to find a Uhaul place that had plastic to wrap the furniture. They didn't have work shirts on, no dolly, no hand truck, even though I explained that I need a bed, sofa and dresser moved along with several boxes - like 20. The kids were polite enough but needed supervision as they were racing with my items in hand and didn't really know how to pack the container so that my items wouldn't move around to much. Also, with payment, the charge was exactly what the owner told me. However - they take cash, with no receipt or obscure credit card payment plans where they charge you back the fee. Understanding this is a small business, when I asked the owner for payment options or if he took CC he made no reference to this charge back fee - honestly he didn't respond to that email. Even though the guys who unloaded my trailer did an amazing job, this company has been giving me such a hard time regarding a receipt that I asked for. I need the receipt to get reimbursed by my company. I paid cash and gave $40 tip to the guys because they did an amazing job. They said I could text their boss,ask for a receipt and he would mail it to me. I have been begging for this receipt since January 26th! It's been almost a month and I haven't received anything yet. These people have been fooling me by saying that there have been some electronic issues or that they have emailed me an invoice but I haven't received anything yet and now they don't even reply to my texts anymore! Besides the great job that the guys did, I would never hire them again. If you need a receipt just don't let them leave without giving it to you. Otherwise there is no way they are gonna mail you one. read more

We just used Maybaum Movers for a small local move in Alexandria, VA over the weekend and they were wonderful!! We did most of the small stuff ourselves, but hired Daryl and his team (2 additional guys) to move our large furniture (beds, dressers, dining table, desk, etc.). They were on time, polite, and cautious with our furniture. I was quoted through Thumbtack for the cost of 2 men and for 2 hours with a truck. Not only were there 3 men total, with Daryl mostly acting as the "director" while disassembling/reassembling furniture, but they also went over the time by maybe 20 minutes--and they still only charged us for the original quote! Honest, quality movers are hard to find, and I would absolutely recommend them and use them in the future. read more

Worst experience ever--I had reserved a date for them in June 2016 to have 2 movers assist with my move (I already had a moving truck) and not only did they not show up but experienced the worst customer service from the owner himself. He would never speak to me on the phone and would only text. He not only told me to "Roll with the punches" but also did not offer another date to compensate me and his mismanaged business. I was stuck with 10 pieces of furniture that I had to leave at my old residence and schedule another move later in the week and take off work to get the furniture out. This company came recommended from a friend. I signed up with Daryl to move me on a specific date last weekend almost a month in advance. A couple of hours before the move I got a call from one of the guys on the crew that they couldn't move me because one of the 3 guys was sick. I'm not heartless, I get that. But then he told me to contact Daryl myself to talk about rescheduling to ANOTHER DAY. A move is a big deal, not an event one can just casually reschedule. When I called Daryl multiple times I got no response. He texted to say he couldn't talk. I asked him to call me as soon as he could. 3 hours later he texts me asking when I want to move the next day. The lack of professionalism astounded me. No apology, not even a phone call. I had to wait several hours to calm down before I could respond that his services were no longer needed. Luckily I was able to find last minute movers. I hope this is the right company. This review is super late as I used this service almost two months ago, but they did so well I wanted to make sure I added my review. I set up my move with this group through Simple Moving Labor. They arrived a later than I thought they would but still within the 2 hour window estimated by SML. My move began in Manassas. Derrick, Ryan, and Rico helped me move my items into the Penske truck I had rented. They were extremely polite and worked quickly and diligently. They had to carry quite a few items including several heavy totes down 3 flights of stairs on a very hot summer day. Even as my mother and I attempted to help them they insisted that we didn't need to. I never once heard them complain. One of the guys was fairly new and I could tell it was exhausting for him but he kept on pushing. They packed the truck very well and none of my items were damaged. read more
