The mitigation on my plumbing disaster was satisfactory, but Maxx Dry has failed to communicate with my insurance company. I paid Maxx Dry $4500 out of pocket for mitigation services, but they have failed to return my insurer's calls. I have sent texts and left voicemails but without their cooperation I will be unable to recover my costs. read more

What a mess for us renters. Starts with a slab leak. Our insurance did not cover anything due to our property having no damage. We basically got penalized financially for being responsible renters & catching a leak quick enough for it not to damage our things. Thanks for nothing after 20 years with the same insurance company...haha Owners called a plumber through their home warranty program & the plumber recommended MaxxDry to come in to demolish the flooring & assist in the asbestos abatement. We, renters, thought that MaxxDry was sent from the insurance company by the owners. Today is July 2, 2024. Here is our timeline: June 13 - leak noticed. Hot water was turned off immediately June 17 - MaxxDry came to tell us that a job like this takes 1 to 4 days. June 18 - first floor furniture was moved into garage by movers June 21 - asbestos abatement was scheduled to take place on June 25 June 24 - 27 - our family + a cat stayed in hotel room, so abatementcould be completed & the flooring can be demolished. June 26 - Asbestos negative confirmation. Plumber came to start process for rerouting pipes. It was expected that MaxxDry was to remove the flooring that day. They came while plumber was there but then left very shortly after (according to my cameras) for an unknown reason. The plumber said there would have been no issue working alongside one another June 27- returned "home" to find no progress had been made aside from asbestos abatement June 29 - One guy from MaxxDry came to remove flooring in living area and was there for less than two hours. We also received our moving bill totaling $1,200. Ludicrous. At this point, we had no hot water, no diswasher, no washer (even with cold water), no AC (in San Diego summer weather) & a completely empty first floor, with some flooring missing (picture attached), missing drywall & holes in walls for plumbers. On top of that, we have an outrageous electric bill for all the fans we needed to run, above market rent to pay, hotel costs & costs of eating out for a family of 4 to pay for. Stressful isn't the word for how we have been feeling the last few weeks. Just defeated. Yes, I know. First worldbproblems. But we do not pay the rent amount we pay for nothing to live like this. When we first met Andres Aguilera from MaxxDry, we really thought he was knowledgeable & he gave us the feeling that he really knew his stuff. He said their company was the best in the business & spoke to us like he wanted to look out for us. He said that my insurance should be paying for everything, though I shared with him that we already spoke with them more than once & we did not have a covered event for a claim & nothing would be covered/paid. He dismissed what I shared & took our insurance information (claim #, adjuster info, etc.) and said he would make some calls in his truck. He returned some time later and said that a few movers from X company will be here tomorrow morning from 9am to 11am. We assumed with his response that he somehow explained things to the adjuster & got the moving expenses covered, which we thought was great. We felt instant relief. We felt like things were going to be moving along fast & we are going to start being able to live our normal life again! Well, that was the last time we saw Andres. We texted occasionally, as needed, trying to schedule services, but after that initial meeting, we really felt like we were had by a shady salesman. Andres basically made us feel secure by telling us what we wanted to hear, even if it wasn't the truth. I really want to believe that he did not do this purposely, but we don't know if that moving company & Andres have an agreement of some kind. We moved our 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo 2 miles away with 2 guys for less than $700 (shout out to Move Central) & we were extremely happy with their service & fair prices. We were SHOCKED to have been slapped with a $1,200 bill like that for what they moved into our 1 car GARAGE just feet away (pictures attached). Anything outlined in red is what we moved ourselves. Why did it take MaxxDry 11 days to do what they were supposed to do for what Andres himself said would take 1 to 4 days? We don't know what happened, but after we realized all this, we are glad that our business is done with them. They are coming tomorrow morning to pick their fans up. We would never have them do anything for us again. In all good conscience, I cannot recommend this company to anyone knowing the time lapse we experienced, their failure to keep appointments & the downright dirty way Andres got us slapped with a $1,200 moving bill. Do your homework, people. Don't trust people. I hate saying that because it simply is not who I am as a person, but I will now never again trust the word of a contractor in a situation like this. read more

Firstly, there are many MAXX DRY companies. This person was referred by a plumber who gave us a bid for replumbing our condo. He said there was mold so he referred MAXX DRY, Tim Archer. Nice enough person but tried to sell us on services that we did not need. I learned the plumber gets a referral fee. A scam that I was not aware of. Fortunately I did not hire them. The big sales pitch is, we do not pay anything because they bill your insurance company. I learned there are a few companies that do this. Be aware and hope this is helpful. read more

On a Friday just before a long holiday weekend, Maxx Dry came out to assess and provide an estimate on some water damage mitigation for the ceiling and several walls of my garage after we discovered a water pipe leak. We ended up going with Maxx Dry to handle treating the water damaged area basically because we appreciated Tim Archer who was the rep who came out to assess and provide an estimate. We felt it was in our best interest to pay out of pocket and forego an insurance claim and Tim was great with working with us so we could proceed with a price that we felt comfortable with. I am not well versed in this area, but after discussing with Tim, we felt he was someone we could trust. We found the leak on a Friday, Tim showed up that afternoon and as promised to help us get this addressed ASAP, Maxx Dry had a team on site first thing Saturday morning to demo the area, remove the damaged drywall and insulation and had the air blowers and air cleaners going for several days to dry everything out. Although we ended up finding our own drywall install team, Tim was willing to get us a quote from another vendor so we could have some prices to compare to finish up the project. Tim provided great communication, providing me progress reports and photos from start to finish. The team was professional and kept the area clean/tidy. This company came to our home on request of a plumber who was supposed to unclog our sink. The plumber said it looked like we had a leak under our sink and that we might have mold or water damage under the cabinet base. Then he said we should notify our home owners insurance. That's the catch. Getting insurance involved so they can overcharge your insurance company. This is what Maxx Dry did. They had someone come out and cut the base of the cabinet to check for water damage. No damage at all. They left a portable drying unit that we used for 2 days. We called them to say we didn't need it anymore. They charged us for 6 days. This company chases plumbers and is a Maxx scam business. read more

This company is a SCAM! I think they are paying plumbers to refer them. Theres no other logical reason I can think of for any plumber to refer this subpar "company". Maxx Dry came out to my home after a plumber from Roto Rooter recommended them for a 10 minute small water leak. The first question Maxx Dry asked was "Do you have USAA?" To which I hesitantly replied "yes". Maxx Dry said, "great, they are going to cover everything". Then he asked me if I wanted to replace the vanity (which was untouched) I said no. They ran their fans and dehumidifier for a few days and concluded the demo still needed to happen. I told Maxx Dry to stand by while I talk to USAA. In reality I was talking a real company Flood Management Services. Maxx Dry still called my tenant and schedule a demo early the next day. I found out only because my tenant notified me. I called Maxx dry and told them to come get their equipment. Later on Flood Management Services came by the house and ran tests, their readings came back negative for everything. If you're looking to take advantage of your insurance company and then get dropped by them, all while having a shady group of people work on your life's investment, this is the company for you. read more

On the fence about this place. The service was impeccable, quick response to a toilet overflow. Their technicians were friendly, professional and efficient. However, some areas weren't dried completely. They did send a team out quickly to resolve the issue. Not good and not honest. I'd highly recommend to avoid their service. My problem was exactly as described by other folks who put low rating here. They prefer to bill your insurance directly and as soon as they get money they lose any interest to you and forget all their promises. In my cases a couple of attorneys advised me to file a court case against them. If you still brave enough to deal with them, my advice is - force them to communicate in writing - text, email, whatever. They like talking on the phone but never make any promises in writing, so push them to do so. And the fact they do not answer to any feedbacks on this site is not a good sign too. read more

My pipes cracked and leaked sewage underneath the house. My plumber (who I adore and fully trust) gets in contact with MaxxDry to send someone out and let me know what needs to be done. I get two gentlemen who show up and start asking me how many leaks there are, how much water is underneath, and questions like that. I don't know the answers as I have not crawled underneath my house before nor do I have any experience in this field. The lead guy states that he is not dressed or equipped to take a look himself. Now I'm not an expert but doesn't a biohazard clean up sound like something that you show up prepared for? In any case, he calls and chats with the plumber and he's back and forth on his phone. I get a quote and work proceeds forward. Brady, the gentleman they contracted to do the work, was wonderful and I wish I could have dealt with him directly. I get an email shortly after work is completely stating the balance is due a month after the invoice was sent. I'm fully prepared to pay it and think I have some time. Turns out they made a billing mistake and I get a lovely threatening text message from Sara saying that it was an error and it's due now and I'm going to have late fees and interest and I'll be sent to collections. Keep in mind that this is 10 days after that original email was sent. I never told her I wasn't going to pay it but just confused when as a company you make a mistake and I get punished for it. I hope that it was just my experience and others have wonderful interactions with MaxxDry but I will not recommend or deal with them again. read more

I was charged $2545 for water extraction on a one car garage, they wouldn't even extract the water on my patio which was flooded as well and caused the flooding in the garage, they didn't move anything in the garage when extracting the water, so I had to do it after they left. They also wanted to take the 2 fans that was drying the drywall, because I decided not to do the demo on the drywall, which, would've been another $1000 and they don't repair the drywall afterwards, which meant I would've had to hire someone else for the drywall reapair ! He was at my house in less than 30 minutes after the initial call to the company. He was super helpful with the entire process, from contacting my insurance, to environmental testing (old house), arranging a moving company, abatement, and referring a contractor for the rebuilding. Every vendor he set me up with has been phenomenal! He has been very responsive and informative with all my questions and concerns throughout the entire process. I am appalled and flabbergasted at the lack of transparency and the level of dishonesty this company operates at. Our plumber called Maxx Dry to assess for water damage because of a water heater leak. They rushed my husband with all these warnings about the urgency of the situation and coerced him into signing a work authorization agreement. Once they pulled our dry wall apart, they determined there was water damage. They staged a bunch of fans in that area, took a photo for evidence, and then removed the fans. The fans were never even plugged in since we don't have any electrical sockets in that area. They left a dehumidifier there for maybe a week and told us they would charge our home owner's insurance for their work. The bill for the insurance company came out to be around $6000 for very minimal amount of work. When we decided we didn't want to go through the insurance company, they reduced the bill down to $4000, which I still felt was an absurd amount of money. I had to call and email multiple times to get an itemized break down of the bill. Turns out they charged almost $1000 for those fans that were never used/plugged in and for 8 hours of work (which I am sure they were not there that long). And when I called them to explain these charges, they told me even if the fans were taken off the bill and the hours were reduced, we would still owe $4000. And apparently we are contractually obligated to pay this amount because that work authorization my husband signed also happened to be a contract that stated we had to pay them for whatever they decided to bill us. So even if the bill is arbitrary and not based on any of the items listed in the itemized receipt, we still have to pay it. Thank you Maxx Dry for teaching me this expensive lesson about the art of scamming. It has NOT been a pleasure dealing with your company and I hope we NEVER meet again. Have a nice life. read more

Unfortunately, I had a similarly poor experience to another customer who left a review here. I would highly recommend not having them come out to look at water damage or mold issues. I've never been one to review, and certainly do not like leaving negative reviews that impact business success, but this experience was one that I hope can be prevented going forward. Robert was who we had look at our issue. We had them come take a look at our water heater closet after a leak created some damage. They make considerably more if the homeowner makes a claim through insurance because they can claim hugely marked up rates for remediation work that the insurance companies won't question. Because of this, Maxx Dry essentially tries to force you into making an insurance claim regardless of the amount of work, your insurance deductible, and before even quoting the scope of work needed. After I told them we had a $1,500 deductible through insurance and I wanted to get a quote for the work to see if we could avoid making a claim, they gave me a ballpark of $4,500-$6,000 immediately, without any justification or knowledge of the extent of work needed. I called our handyman who had done work on a bathroom wall with mold a few months previous who came to take a look and said it would be about $1,200. They did have a dehumidifier set up in the closet for 5-6 days and after we agreed to go with someone else to do the mold and drywall work, they sent us a bill for $1,500 for just the dehumidifier rental. I called and asked to speak with Robert and understand why the invoice was so high. Without getting a call back or any information they sent a revised invoice for $650. A few weeks I called them back and finally got in touch with Robert and the accounting department who said that their rental rate was $106/per day and then suggested I was getting a deal because it had been in the home for 10 days, even though I told them I wanted it removed on the 5th day. Dehumidifiers can be rented for $200-$250 a week from Home Depots and elsewhere. I can understand marking it up and needing to cover overhead and someone's time to come put it in and plug it in the wall, but a 300% mark-up on an already retailed price is too much for any business. To me that seems more like a Company that is trying to rip you off because I was never given a price upfront and the equipment was already there now. Even if I had gone through insurance and cared less about the cost of the work, I would highly recommend finding a different company to work with who will be more forthright and honest about things. It was awful to feel like Maxx Dry was intentionally trying to screw me over and make my insurance rates go up, so that they could mark up the costs of the work 400%-500% what it should be. read more

Do not work with this company- Dishonest! Reading some of the other reviews, we experienced a similar experience. We had kitchen water damage situation. Plumber assigned, recommended we get Maxx Dry to assess the situation. While through the process, it all seemed normal, what I was not aware of was how they were invoicing everything they 'seemed' to be doing. We had equipment through the holidays. By the time they decided it was dry- we had surpassed several weeks. They submitted their version of the invoice to insurance, sight unseen by us the home owners. Once we finally received a copy of the charges it was clear that the entire invoice that was submitted to insurance was embellished or just flat out false. They made claims that they moved my 'gas' stove appliance and reconnected it for $107, we don't own a gas stove and my electric range sits on the opposite side of where the damage occurred. It was never part of the assessment. Same with my fridge. They charged us $314 to disconnect a dishwasher and reconnect it. They only disconnected it, and why would it cost $314 to unscrew a water line. There is a charge of $221 for an emergency call- for a phone call. Aside from the initial meeting with them, they called me to set up time. They falsified the total square footage of my kitchen and garage where the damage occurred, which is a small galley style kitchen and only a small corner in my garage. Square footage was used to calculate supplies used. They claimed they moved me out of not only my garage but my kitchen $260- I did my OWN moving. They touched none of our things. False. And MANY more falsified invoiced line items. I have pictures to back up. The initial submitted invoice to insurance was for over $13K. Insurance only covered what they felt reasonable of $1300- so Maxx dry is now coming after us for the balance in which they falsely embellished. We then received an invoice (straight balance- no line items list) from an automated service asking us to pay $5800, then several days later we received another for $4500- And because we have insisted they they re-review the invoice and the items that are clearly false and provide a corrected invoice, they instead sent us a notice of lien on our property for over $7000. Who in their right mind would blindly pay a company demanding payment without providing a detailed invoice by day? No one! They seem to think its ok to to extort money for services not rendered. The employees doing the work are shady, they have someone in the billing department making awful decisions and clearly they cant keep records straight. Do not work with MAXX dry EVER. read more

Recommended an abatement team to me only to damage my kitchen drawers and threw it away without telling me, the island, the doors, the kitchen oven, and there's a crack in my closet mirror. All items I can't reuse. The water damage wasn't even that extensive. They didn't need to take all the drywall out too. Their mitigation team did some great damage. Maxx Dry you guys are life savers!! I'm personally in the same industry but unfortunately don't service Southern San Diego. Long story short my mom's refrigerator ice maker line blew and flooded out her entire kitchen. I did some digging and found a locally family owned and operated company.
