Loved the ambiance in this cute bar! I did a happy hour session here and had a great experience. I ordered a couple of their blood orange margaritas which were so tasty with just the right amount of tequila. I had some bites too -mini salmon burger, chicken dumplings and pork belly bun. A true gem! We were in Hartford for a convention but were on our own a couple of nights for dinner. Trumbull's was one of the restaurants listed as being within walking distance of our hotel and the menu looked great. After a half mile walk, we arrived early (6pm) on a Thursday with no reservations but were greeted warmly by the animated hostess and shown immediately to a table...requested a table in the corner instead and she had no problem reseating us. We were fortunate enough to get Christopher as our waiter...an amazing person who was once even an actor in major productions. He was happy to help us choose which of the amazing dishes to have, after he had quickly returned with our drink orders. The shrimp fritters are wonderful...even better than one of the specials...lobster fritters. I could go on about the other wonderful dishes, but suggest you just take a look at their online menu yourselves.... yum! There was a steel band outside on either end of the restaurant, and their music was playing, but it didn't put a damper on a wonderful experience. read more

Stopped in here for an early dinner/ late lunch meeting a peer. She arrived before I did and was already seated. When I came inside, the man at the front desk ignored me so I walked by him once I spotted her. We exchanged pleasantries and sat, a waiter came over and with a horrible attitude he was what we wanted to drink, I said a water for now, he said something but I couldn't make it out so I asked for him to repeat it. Louder, and more annoyed he did. I said I'd take a tap water with lemon. He rolled his eyes and walked away before taking my peers drink. He gave me the glass and said the lemon would be a bit without making eye contact. She asked for a different glass as hers was covered in dishwasher residue.. he took it, repeated her request and she said yes, he then rolled his eyes and walked away. Came back with a glass, filled it with water and walked off. So we walked out. Super rude, they can have the best (or worst, we don't know) food, but If you're a jerk-then your a jerk and I'll eat somewhere else. So we did, at the pub around the corner and it was delightful. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants and will drive 30 minutes plus for a special occasion dinner ! The Chiang Mai curry noodles are by far one of my favorite dishes anywhere. Creamy coconut curry sauce, noodles, a hint of lime, scallions, French fried onion straws and tender pieces of beef. Seasonal drink menu is inventive and delicious. Although the menu has gotten smaller since the pandemic the staples persist and remains a favorite. Kids menu comes like a bento box with an entree, small salad, apple slices and cookie. Wonderful lunch experience here. The restaurant is very attractive, and the staff are some of the nicest people I've met during my time here. The bar has quite the impressive collection of scotches and whiskeys, as well as some pretty creative cocktails (the accompanying drawings are equally impressive). For lunch, I ordered the haddock. Unfortunately it tasted like, well, just plain old fish. Nothing else. There was no seasoning, aside from a little pepper on top. The crust gave it a nice texture, but I was hoping for a bit more in terms of herbs, seasonings, or spices. However, the dish was beautifully assembled on a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes, encircled by a gorgeous bright green sofrito and topped with a mélange of arugula and shaved mango. Points for presentation. The dessert menu was impressive and it was almost stressful picking just one. The Compost Ice Cream Cookie appealed most to me, and it was a great decision. The cookies (I think they were chocolate chip oatmeal) were huge, making for a dessert that could easily be shared...but I didn't share because, well, cookies. And I loved that they used a high quality ice cream... The ice cream was so rich and the flavor of vanilla bean really came through very nicely. My only complaint; the cookies are hard, making it impossible to eat with anything but your hands (try to knife-and-fork it, and it *will* fly off of your plate. Trust me. I almost lost mine, so I know.). If the cookies were soft baked, those utensils might come in handy, but your best bet is either to deconstruct it before you eat it, or just pick it up and take a big old bite. My partner just moved downtown and we wanted to try out the food scene which is why we stumbled upon Trumbull Kitchen! The interior is gorgeous! We were seated quickly without a reservation on a Saturday night and the service was quick, speedy, and straight forward! I cannot say enough about how delicious the grilled filet mignon was! The seasoning was perfect - very balanced with sweet and salty notes. This is an absolute MUST when you go! I found the tagliatelle with spring onion to be a bit bland. Although the bites of the crispy prosciutto di parma helped with the flavor, I found it a bit underseasoned. Overall, a great experience! read more

Our host, Mike Pitocco, made our evening! The food was very good; we ordered an assortment of apps to share and every one was delicious. The house red was also worth trying. The table ordered the hanger steak, meatloaf and short ribs and all were wonderful. Desserts were shared and these too were excellent. I can't say enough about the gracious and attentive service. I've been to Trumbull Kitchen a few times over the years but never had a satisfactory meal. They have very few veg/chicken options to choose from. On two separate occasions for lunch, I tried the chicken pad Thai, wasn't that great...was a bit too sweet for my taste and the last time I was here, I had the buffalo chicken wrap.. that was a disaster too, I threw most of it away. I left feeling annoyed having to pay $17 for lunch and not enjoying it though. The chicken in the wrap was way too greasy, It was a big portion but what good is that if the food terrible. On the other hand the scallop pasta that my friend had she said was excellent.. so don't bother coming here if you are a chickterian (if that's even a word). I know I won't! read more

My husband and I went there for the first time this week & feel completely bamboozled by the Yelp reviews. I'll give credit where it's due: the ambiance was inviting & nice, and also the bar tender & food runner were both so kind. Bartender makes a perfect martini also! But the food was not impressive at all. We got their wings, and it was shriveled up & just covered in sauce as if it was an attempt to rehydrate it. The buffalo chicken wrap was overwhelmingly just bleu cheese, with yet again, dry chicken. The pork belly tacos probably would have also been dry if the fat from the pork wasn't covering the entirety of the tacos, and even the plate. The tacos were decent, but I think a nice dressing/sauce on it would really elevate it. I got it with rice & beans, and the rice was still hard. I ate all the beans probably because I was hungry & it was the only warm item on my plate. We won't be going back for food, but the bar was pleasant enough. read more

What I tried General Tso's cauliflower : this was actually delicious. The sauce was a perfect balance of sweet, sour and spicy and the cauliflower was crispy. Pesto stone fired pizza - I liked how the crust was crispy but the breading itself was mediocre. The pesto and veggies tasted good but nothing extraordinary. We shared a few appetizers that I wasn't able to get pictures of since I hadn't explained to everyone my Yelp status lol Items ordered were: -Szechuan Pork Dumplings Black bean sauce, scallion, sesame, Grilled -Filet Mignon, Truffled "tater tots", frisee, blue cheese fondue -Oak Grilled Octopus Shaved fennel, caperberries, warm lemon vinaigrette, micro lemon balm -Clams Casino Pie Applewood bacon, mozzarella, fresh oregano Every appetizer was extremely flavorful, my favorite being the Octopus! I ordered the Traditional Caesar Romaine hearts, parmesan, anchovies, HBC croutons to start, it needed a bit more salad dressing it was a bit dry. For my entree I decided on the Grilled Chicken Pasta Linguini, locally grown mushrooms, truffle coulis, arugula, Parmesan...One word! HEAVEN! We decided to close out the season with one of our favorites. Downtown Hartford couldn't be without this culinary staple. Trumbull Kitchen closed for the winter, but we highly anticipate their return. The dim lighting not only served as backdrop for the seductiveness of date night, but also as the personification of the lights going out (temporarily) during this time for the restaurant industry due to the negative impact of COVID. Our sever Steve was attentive as could be amongst the hubbub of the last open tables of the evening. We wait with baited breath for Spring and their return. Went here with quite large party - 9 people for lunch. The food was okay but the service was a little weak. Our waiter seemed like he didn't have a lot of patience. We felt a little rushed. It took a while to get our food, but again we were a large party. The menu looked full, with many offerings. We were there for business so we went there on the recommendation of one of our hosts. I've always known that Trumbull Kitchen would be an amazing option based off of what others have told me. I'm glad that I can finally confirm this with my own experience after all these years. I just happened to be there on the final day of CT Restaurant week and I decided to try their special menu they offered for it. For about $30, you get a 3 course meal. To start I had the Crawfish Chicken Chowder. It was really good. Small but heavy serving. The Crawfish was there and so was the Chicken. For my main course I had the Pressed Chicken w/litterally a smear of roasted mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and some sort of apple stuffing. Normally I'd be pissed at the amount of mashed potatoes but I reminded myself that I need to oversee that type of stuff in a place like this. It was the perfect compliment to the chicken. You don't need a lot because the apple stuffing was already heavy and the flavor of the mashed potatoes was all you needed, not the entire side dish. I can confirm this theory as I was indeed, really full at the end of my meal. The chicken was excellent. Tender, juicy, went perfectly with the stuffing and everything else of course. I had some sort of dessert. I apologize for not remembering the name because I no longer eat sweets like that after having a long talk with my dermatologist. Any sweets you see me post usually aren't mine. So that's why I forgot the name of it and what it was in general. There, that's my excuse but from what I was told, it was good. The one I do remember was a Chocolate Cake w/a raspberry based sauce. That one was really good. I'll admit I did take bite and it was excellent. (check my pictures for the other one sorry) Service was excellent! Everything arrived on time, everything was thoroughly explained and everyone was very nice. Nice and easy dinner! In town for work for a few days and this place was a 2 min walk from my hotel. Super cool vibe inside and the service was great. Very friendly staff! Had the beet salad for an appetizer and it was great. Everything was super fresh and it was tossed with a really tasty balsamic. Dinner choice was the meatloaf. Blew my mind. Full disclosure it's not traditional (fine by me) and there were a lot of flavors going on (sweet, spicy, fruity and tangy). Came with cheddar mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. I think Trumbull Kitchen has become the most innovative restaurant in downtown Hartford. In the past year, no two experiences have been the same; the only common denominator has been outstanding food paired with amazing service. Four of us went last Saturday night for a late dinner and right off the bat, our server suggested we try the General Tso's Cauliflower. I am not crazy about cauliflower, nor what General Tso does to a chicken, but this Trumbull Kitchen pairing was worthy of immediately ordering a second round of the same dish, something we never do. It is a perfect pairing of texture and spice and typical of the clever small plates we have come to expect from TK. If you've not had their Oven-roasted Marrow Bone appetizer...it is an entire reason to eat there. All four dinners were excellent, but the catch of the day was Halibut and Chef Torla prepared it with 'Nduja. 'Nduja is one of those ingredients that often falls into the same world as Saffron or Truffle Oil; some chefs think, "if a little of this is good, then I'll bet more will be even better". In this case, it was a sublime addition, particularly when spooned up with the butter beans. Fish and cheese, or fish and meat, tend to trend toward the disastrous, but here, the 'Njuda gave the Halibut the slightest hint of fire, yet overpowered nothing. What a great idea! I'll spare you the individual dinner details but they were all in the, "You have to try a bite of this" realm. One last credit has to go to the French Fries which never get enough love. The Trumbull Kitchen French Fries are on the verge of crispy, they are spared no salt whatsoever, and they arrive really hot. There is no way you can stop eating them. They are a perfect food. The service is old-school. Any time I caught an employee's eye they came right to the table. I love it when I ask, "What's good tonight?" and our server talks about what she had for a shift meal and what others were raving about. I hate, "Oh, the (most expensive thing on the menu) is really good tonight. I want a first-person experience, and it was nice because she could tell us exactly why she liked her dinner so much. Plus, she was fun. It makes eating out worthwhile, and this experience was particularly worthwhile as the chef came out of the kitchen at the end of the meal to get some feedback and answer our questions.
