I've been wanting to give the outdoor seating at this restaurant a try for a while. The atmosphere for the outdoor seating is unique and relaxing. We both ordered the scallops and the meal did not disappoint. Seasoned perfectly. We felt welcomed by all of the staff and enjoyed a very nice dinner experience on a beautiful summer day.

Service 5/5 Food 2/5 Located inside the Delamar hotel. Parking on the street wasn't hard to find. However, everything was mostly too salty from the appetizer to the sides. For the appetizer, we ordered the crab with pineapples and a sauce that had a kick, which wasn't too spicy. The pineapples were sweet and evened out the salty crab. For the meal, I had the lobster roll. The coleslaw lacked flavor. And the buttery lobster roll was just okay. The fries that came with the lobster roll was wayyyyy too salty. Big portion size sure, but is it really big if barely any of it ends up in your stomach? Our bill did end up getting subtracted, which was nice of them. Not sure I would revisit. Not my palate. Nice ambiance and service inside the restaurant. I would order most things unsalted and have salt on the side or something.

This is a great brunch spot located near blue back square. Although the restaurant has indoor seating/dining and private rooms for events, my fave is the outdoor garden for dining. Not sure about Saturday brunch but on Sundays there is always live music playing. Free parking in the small lot near the restaurant tends to fill up fast even if you are arriving when the restaurant opens for brunch. As does the street parking across the street. There are 2 parking garages located nearby that are a short walk to the restaurant. The brunch menu has something for everyone and it would be easy to find something to meet everyone is your parties taste. Food as always was great. Service as always was great and our server was very attentive. Love that this restaurant is located in a quiet part of the area and not so congested with so much foot traffic.

This is one of the best places in West Hartford to go to celebrate something. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor patio with a charming little garden, which serves as a nice backdrop for birthdays, anniversaries, or maybe a special date. The food is always amazing and the staff are professional. I've been here many times, and on this latest visit, I had the organic kale Caesar salad to start. The fact that I ate the kale and actually liked it shows that it was put together really well. The chicken breast was satisfying crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The mashed potato it was served with was a bit too salty, but the flavor was good. The cioppino my companion ordered was equally delicious.

I've been to the Artisan Restaurant located in The Delamar Hotel a few times for happy hour drinks and food, which has never disappointed. Had some family come in from our of town so the Artisan was the obvious choice for dinner. However, this visit left me short of the high expectations I held. ALL the lights continuously flickered on and off throughout the entire evening. It wasn't just the one above us; It was both distracting and uncomfortable. We were told this has been an issue for a few days now. I ordered the pork chops and my partner the catch of the day cioppino; both tasted good flavor wise and the cioppino was done well, but the pork was overdone and somewhat hard to cut. For drinks, we got the Polemo Manhattan, Riptide, and the Artisan's choice (bartender's unique cocktail) with a tequila base. Artisan's choice ended up pretty much being essentially a basic margarita. Not worth the $1 upcharge. Highly recommend the Riptide, however. It was essentially dessert! Delicious! Eveeyone was happy, but for the price point and standards of this restaurant, I expected more. I think I'll stick to happy hour and skip regular dinner service in the future.

Celebrated my birthday by staying at the hotel and dining there!!! Great spot , Hotel, and the food was mostly yummy. Service fantastic. The only gripe was that our chicken was extremely salty, and I should have said something . Brunch the next morning was fab , with a great amount of options ... and glutencfree bagles ! Would recommend, in the summer I want to sit outside and people watch !

I dined with a long time friend to celebrate his recent birthday and I mentioned I had reservations to the restaurant which could not be located. Luckily, we were there early enough that they had tables available and the host was able to seat us immediately. We were offered a table either inside or outside and we chose the latter. The outdoor patio was closed off to the elements and had an overhead heater to keep guests warm. The wireless lamps were also a nice touch although the one on our table was at the end of its life. Didn't bother to ask for a replacement though. Our server absolutely on point and very cheery. He came to inquire about our food often and was very inviting. We tried the beef sliders which I remembered from Artisan's Garden Party earlier in the season as well as the beet salad which was very delicious. I was able to enjoy the Scottish Salmon A La Plancha that came with a variety of vegetables. The salmon was crunchy and tasteful while the vegetables were absolutely perfect. I much enjoyed the veggies more than I did the protein. My friend had the Mushroom Bolognese and he was very happy with that too. For the final touch, he blew a candle on a Pumpkin Cheesecake and loved very much. This visit was absolutely spectacular. I would recommend Artisan over and over again. I peeped that guests can now enjoy tea parties, where before, it was limited to spa guests only. That's an absolute delight that my tastebuds couldn't wait to enjoy!

First time going, and we'll 1000% be back. The patio area is awesome. Nice lighting. All of the food was beyond expectations and there's so many other dishes I want to try. Very reasonably priced for the quality. The staff were exceptional and the waiter was very friendly and helpful.

Artisan was a fabulous spot to have brunch. There's a great menu and for $25 you get a drink and food. I had the quiche with salad and home fries. The quiche was a great size- not too much and delicious. Two women had choose your own omelet which gives you 4 choices for your omelet and then one person had French toast. All food was delicious! The service was great. Beautiful place- I have heard the other meals are great as well!!

Came back a couple times, unfortunately food could not be compared to that of when I first tried. Chowder has greatly fallen from grace and considered bland. I cannot believe the difference in what I experienced. Scallops were overcooked and overly salty. Tried the escargots as well - I could tell at first glance that they would disappoint; true as they were dry and overcooked. Disappointed and will not be coming back any time soon.

My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday and it was so cute and such an intimate dining experience we sat in their heated outdoor dining area. We started off by sharing a lobster roll. I had the jumbo sea scallops that were so delicious! My boyfriend wanted the swordfish but they had just ran out so he had their all natural chicken breast he enjoyed it. The crème brûlée and the German chocolate tart was great. Kats service was very friendly, sweet, she helped add to the wonderful experience of the night! We so greatly appreciated her kind service throughout the night! We would definitely come again and 100% recommend!

Second time here Saturday night. Gorgeous restaurant. Ambiance absolutely beautiful. Sat in the dining room. Last time was seated out in the garden. Let's just say. I would recommend sitting inside. The garden does have some "critters" running around so we had to be moved inside last time. Ok onto the food. I had the lobster roll that time and the fries were cold. They did bring me fresh fries which were ok. This time around I had the Cioppino which was extremely salty. Even my bf thought so and he doesn't usually say things are salty. It was topped with grouper and in a lobster bisque sauce. Not my favorite dish but mostly bc of the saltiness. Wasn't very full so then got the strawberry dessert special. Didn't care for that either. Aside from that, hostess stand was also hard to find. It's next to the bar. Would be nice if it was at the front as you walk in. They have a tiny parking lot that was full so we parked in the garage. Maybe would come back for a drink bc it's so pretty in there but probably not for food.

The hotel is lovely and the Artisan is part of the hotel. The bar and dining area are well decorated, the bartender served a great drink and we had the truffle fries. The patio area was lovely and I wished we had more time to hang out and enjoy this outdoor space. I really enjoyed the truffle fries, they were crunchy and had Parmesan sprinkled on them. I definitely would go back to try more of their menu. Everyone interacted with was customer service focused which added to the charm of the place.

Ask the Community - Artisan Restaurant

Is this a great restaurant for a birthday brunch?

They run a brunch on Sunday, and it should be good. They can accommodate a part of twelve or so in the dining room.

The potato flautas and crème brûlée were definitely my favorites. I wanted to go in during brunch, called the restaurant to check if they serve potato flautas during brunch, looks like you can only get them during dinner. We were a group of 4, and our server, Soley, was incredibly kind and helpful. She suggested a few vegan options for us, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The crab was delicious and tasted fresh. The fries were good. Huge portion. They were perfectly seasoned. The Kinilaw was so good. Very light and I loved the touch of spice. My stepdad got the burger which was massive and boy was it tasty. The Bella Bella wings were good too, and were paired with something similar to a papaya salad. Lastly we got the pumpkin olive oil cake. I was intrigued because it sounded fall festive. It was so good. Similar to carrot cake however I wasn't a big fan of the sauce with it. It was a tart almost apple-like sauce made from Roger's Orchards. Everything was served family styled. Every entree was very delicious and perfectly cooked. The portions were generous, they don't mess around with the serving sizes. Almost every dish had a bit of a kick (of spice) too. I almost wish the menu would signal when a dish had a bit of a bite because I can usually handle my spice, but these dishes definitely snuck up on me. I was a little confused by the art on the walls as they were French influenced, however the dishes were several blends of cultures including Thai, American and Filipino. Overall, this was really good. You can tell they make their food with love and everything is very intentional. This place was also very busy on a Friday night but not overly crowded, there were absolutely no waits for our food.

We both started off with mocktails, and they were exceptional. Unbelievable taste - light and delicious. My compliments to the bar master. The staff seemed delighted to introduce each dish on the tasting menu, and were extremely attentive and professional. We're so happy Hartford has a restaurant like this. We got hamachi crudo and I don't know if the supplier of fruit is in cahoots with la Croix but I've never had a slice of citrus taste so bland. The dish was in desperate need of some acidity. Foie was great, I think the only plate aside from the halibut that didn't need any tweaking. We also got the pour over and over as our first drink -- I am fascinated how a cocktail can be both an espresso martini and not at the same time. I wanted to love it, then I saw it and wanted to hate it - then was left feeling perplexed and intrigued by the experience. I think that's a good way to describe the evening, perplexing and intriguing and I'm not sure how to feel but I do not think I will be back for anything other than cocktails because it is frankly a waste of time and money. The place itself is pretty and very Instagramable. The service was fine. You have to put in your entire order at once because that's what the chef prefers which feels a tad pretentious to me -- kind of the vibe of the whole place. Two key words as a takeaway: overpriced and underwhelming.

There wasn't any question going in what I would order. The hostess started things off perfectly and was exceptionally welcoming, setting a relaxing and comfy tone right away. The building has lots of charm. The dining room was beautifully and warmly decorated. They allow the character of the old house to shine. As for the much anticipated fish and chips, they were extremely well executed, and even more delicious. The fries were great, just fairly standard. The other components shined a lot brighter, for example the inclusion of minted peas was extraordinary. The "kitchen sink" remoulade in place of tartar sauce had to be darn good to make up for the omission of the classic, and it was. The coleslaw was also exceptional, creamy but still light. The fish of choice was a cod loin. That was the game changer. I find loin vs filet to make a world of difference. It stays far more moist, has more flavor, and has a much more pleasant texture for me. The breading was light and delicate, too. Every aspect of my experience at The Charles was excellent. I'm extremely anxious to go back. I have heard great things about their salads and appetizers, and they have a beautiful tented front lawn for outdoor dining in the summer I would like to try. Highly, highly recommend a visit. I would say it was one of the busier lunch services I've encountered recently on a weekday, so keep that in mind.

But first, walking into The Charles is a step back into time yet still fresh and intentional. Plenty to look at all around the restaurant. The layout of even the bar is nice with seats by the windows and plenty of TVs playing the games without being disruptive. The building is gorgeous, well kept, and I can see how this restaurant gets packed quickly! But back to the gluten free crab cake. I would have loved some slightly larger chunks of crab, it was the crispy texture on the outside and soft inside that made my heart melt. The cakes sat lightly on an aioli and beside some greens, and each bit was delectable and delicious. Lovely appetizer. I also have the octopus basquaise, and I loved it. The potatoes needed just a smidge more seasoning and were sitting in oil, but I cared not, because it was an oil with Kalamata olives and tart, and how lovely it all was together. The octopus was nicely cooked and tender and not greasy. The potatoes were a lovely vessel, and the aioli was not too overpowering. A delicious fish overall. The service was great, friendly, and you can tell they love their regulars. Everyone was on the move at all times and overall very efficient and kind. Tons of gluten free dishes naturally. I loved coming to The Charles and look forward to coming back later this week to try their actual dishes. But if the entrees are even close to as good as the appetizers, I'm sure it will all be delicious!
