Chicken entree
Jazz A.

Back again this time for dinner ! We got seated immediately and our server was very nice and took our orders quickly . I tried the berry social club ( summer sangria ) Which was blueberry and raspberry's ands white wine ... which was okay not my favourite . For my entree I got the mole Colorado taco which was shredded chicken with a mango slaw and a chili sauce ... which was AMAZING ! Soo good the sauce was delicious and paired perfectly with the mango slaw !! Chicken was cooked perfectly ! Highly recommend . Personally I think it was my favourite taco I've had. If you like mango , coleslaw , and a good sauce on your tacos ( and no it was not spicy .. just packed with flavour ) you will love it ! You get two tacos with the order .. it was soo good I wish I had three. Overall 4/5 drinks were okay but food was delicious , very spacious and good ambiance ( perfect for after work drinks / hanging with friends and they have tvs to watch the game at the bar ) and great service . Can't wait to be back and try the blackened shrimp tacos !

We had a great time at Trumbull kitchen in Hartford. The service is exceptional and very attentive. The food is high quality and delicious. I also got the Italian spritz which was okay but could've used a splash more of the limoncello.

Trumbull Kitchen is a wonderful place to go to dinner with friends. We had a group of eight of us who all ordered different cocktails and mocktails. The service was very nice and the ambiance was great too. I got the vegetarian pad tie. They have a whole vegetarian menu. I would highly recommend checking them out.

We went here again before an event. Same great service! Same GREAT FOOD! One of us has a buttermilk chicken sandwich and the other had the house made ravioli- with broccoli and pork belly. Both DELICIOUS! The flatbreads with mushroom butter was delicious! Sorry - forgot to take pictures before we ate LOL

Can't believe it's been 9 years since I reviewed this place. Julian was a wonderful waiter, and the place was hopping with pre theater folk. It took a while to get our drinks but we still managed to get to theater in time . The steak taco was delicious, and my husband enjoyed his burger. Be sure to have a reservation, especially when Bushnell has a show .

The food at Trumbull Kitchen is genuinely great -- the scallops especially were a standout. And if you're a wine person, order the Max's Cabernet Sauvignon. Bold, beautiful, and worth every sip. The service was painfully slow -- our meal stretched to 3 hours, and it started on a rough note when I waited nearly 10 minutes at the entrance with no hostess in sight. The food makes is yummy, but make sure you go in with zero time pressure.

We went on Saturday for happy hour and had a wonderful experience.... The food was delicious. Our server Darian was exceptional.

Herb marinated skirt steak....so good, great portion, fantastic value!

I never heard of east coast hospitality, but this place has it down. We decided to give this a place a try after settling in town and boy was it a welcome find. We booked our table early on (5:45pm) for a table for two (me and my 12-year old). They seated us by the window at the end of a banquette seat which allowed us a great view of the space and people watch. The place was packed and everyone smiled and greeted us cheerfully. Looking over the menu there were so many great choices. We quickly settled on ordering: 1) Kids cheeseburger - this was a fantastic burger. Cooked perfectly medium well, nice char flavor, crispy fries (soft and hot inside), and loved they put everything in a cafeteria-like tray. just an FYI, the burger is a big burger...1/3lb-1/2lb easily. 2) Herb marinated skirt steak (chef special) - $24 for a skirt steak served with broccolini and smashed yukon gold, why not. This place nailed it and for a great value. Served piping hot, crispy potato, perfectly medium rare steak and a perfect green peppercorn sauce. I would eat this again in a heartbeat! 3) Chocolate torte - HUGE. think x4 the normal torte you get at a restaurant! it was good, but just a lot. We made it through a 1/3 of the way. Overall, it was a great experience and our server, Julien, really deserved a lot of credit. He even shook my hand welcoming us to town and wishing us a fantastic stay. Whenever I am back in Hartford (or anyone else visiting Hartford), this is the place to go. I know I will be back!

From the sidewalk, I was worried this place would be loud and noisy. The music was blasting and when I went in, my headache got worse. Perhaps we were seated in the very back of the restaurant because we had a baby, which was good and bad. It's good because at the very corner table of this restaurant, there was no noise. We had the peace and quiet. But pretty sure our host forgot to put us in the system and after 15 minutes, no one came to wait on us. We also could not wave down any waitstaff either. One older lady working there has eye contact with me but just watched me wave my hand and ignored me. A younger lady actually came over to see what I needed. Finally the host came over to apologize and we were assigned a waiter to our table. No regrets choosing this restaurant. We ordered the steak, the burger and a children's salmon dish which came with two biscotti's and some slices of apple. All the food was amazing, and it was pretty funny how my husbands burger was hidden underneath all the lettuce. No complaints on the food, it was worth the wait. We wanted to eat there again the next day but had no time. Next time we visit Hartford, we will definitely revisit! If you have young children, make sure to sit in the back.

Pork shank with mashed potato and mustard fruits.
Aaron R.

My experience was pretty awesome, even with a tiny caveat. Great Happy Hour cocktail deals with some tapas choices, a terrific tequila list that includes my favorite - Gran Centenario, and great service. I went with the pork shank with mashed potatoes and mustard fruits for dinner, and it was stellar. Great crust, tender inside with a flavorful jus, and a wonderful balance created by the tangy mustard fruits. The tiny caveat - I considered giving them 4.5 stars for this, but only because of the sun shining directly in my eyes at the corner of the bar in early evening. Get a dang shade! Regardless, docking them a full star because of the position of the sun didn't seem fair, so 5 stars! Go to here, asap!!

Cheeseburger and crispy fries

After a morning of protest in drizzle, we sought refuge (and a cold hoppy brew) in the Trumbull Kitchen. It was such a relief to sit at the bar and let Chris provide fabulous service; ice water without asking, requested brews, and a couple of delicious burgers which rarely tasted better. I had a lovely side salad and my co-protester had crispy fries. All around us, cardboard signs and flags showed we were not the only ones to seek refuge here. We were checked on several times and each was a double "thumbs up!" A lovely spot worth returning to!

Flourless chocolate cake

Food was good and atmosphere was pleasant once sat in regular dining area. Shout out to our waiter Zack who was so helpful and nice, he really saved the evenings mood from our initial start at the bar area. The flourless chocolate cake was a huge plus for us since we had one gluten intolerant person in our party. The sangria was also delicious.

I was in town for a meeting and ended up staying up the street from this place. I asked around and lots of people mentioned this spot to grab a bite. Went inside and was immediately greeted by the server in the bar. Really nice guy that showed me around the menu and mentioned a few suggestions. I was really just there for a couple cocktails so I sat down. The place was packed! There were a lot of people there doing the same thing as I was, enjoying some time with others and having a drink. The drinks were good and the service was great! you will have a fun time here! Not to mention I think it's one of the only spots in the area unless you walk a half a mile the other direction.

We both started off with mocktails, and they were exceptional. Unbelievable taste - light and delicious. My compliments to the bar master. The staff seemed delighted to introduce each dish on the tasting menu, and were extremely attentive and professional. We're so happy Hartford has a restaurant like this. We got hamachi crudo and I don't know if the supplier of fruit is in cahoots with la Croix but I've never had a slice of citrus taste so bland. The dish was in desperate need of some acidity. Foie was great, I think the only plate aside from the halibut that didn't need any tweaking. We also got the pour over and over as our first drink -- I am fascinated how a cocktail can be both an espresso martini and not at the same time. I wanted to love it, then I saw it and wanted to hate it - then was left feeling perplexed and intrigued by the experience. I think that's a good way to describe the evening, perplexing and intriguing and I'm not sure how to feel but I do not think I will be back for anything other than cocktails because it is frankly a waste of time and money. The place itself is pretty and very Instagramable. The service was fine. You have to put in your entire order at once because that's what the chef prefers which feels a tad pretentious to me -- kind of the vibe of the whole place. Two key words as a takeaway: overpriced and underwhelming.

Amazing Food, Beautiful Ambience, and One Billing Issue to Fix…read more Fire by Forge is quite an experience. The ambience is beautiful, with gorgeous brick walls and a thoughtfully designed space that makes the restaurant feel special. The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was top-notch. Our waitress explained that Fire by Forge is a nonprofit organization that teaches culinary skills and helps employees find jobs afterward. It's a wonderful mission, and it was great to learn about the work being done through the restaurant. I had the honey chicken sandwich, which was delicious. The honey was perfectly balanced, adding just enough sweetness without overwhelming the other flavors. The homemade kettle chips were a little overdone but still very good. My friends had the ribs and the burger, and everyone was extremely impressed with their meals. The alcoholic drinks were excellent, too. We had mules, and they were fantastic. Unfortunately, the billing process took some of the shine off an otherwise excellent experience. The check included an automatic gratuity that appeared to be less than a standard tip, along with another charge that none of us could identify. We assumed the additional charge might support the nonprofit's mission, but that wasn't clear. We were then left trying to calculate how much additional gratuity to leave on top of the amount already included. For example, if a customer wants to leave a 25% tip and the bill already includes 10% gratuity, they have to calculate the additional 15%. If there's another unexplained charge, it becomes even harder to determine what has actually been paid and what additional amount, if any, should go to the server. This should be explained clearly upfront and itemized on the menu or check. Supporting the nonprofit may be a worthwhile part of the experience, but customers should know what they're being charged for before the bill arrives. Clear communication would also help ensure that neither customers nor staff are left at a disadvantage. Overall, Fire by Forge has exceptional food, wonderful drinks, outstanding service, and a beautiful atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend it. With a little more transparency around the billing and gratuity, the entire experience would be just as impressive as the meal itself.

The crab was delicious and tasted fresh. The fries were good. Huge portion. They were perfectly seasoned. The Kinilaw was so good. Very light and I loved the touch of spice. My stepdad got the burger which was massive and boy was it tasty. The Bella Bella wings were good too, and were paired with something similar to a papaya salad. Lastly we got the pumpkin olive oil cake. I was intrigued because it sounded fall festive. It was so good. Similar to carrot cake however I wasn't a big fan of the sauce with it. It was a tart almost apple-like sauce made from Roger's Orchards. Everything was served family styled. Every entree was very delicious and perfectly cooked. The portions were generous, they don't mess around with the serving sizes. Almost every dish had a bit of a kick (of spice) too. I almost wish the menu would signal when a dish had a bit of a bite because I can usually handle my spice, but these dishes definitely snuck up on me. I was a little confused by the art on the walls as they were French influenced, however the dishes were several blends of cultures including Thai, American and Filipino. Overall, this was really good. You can tell they make their food with love and everything is very intentional. This place was also very busy on a Friday night but not overly crowded, there were absolutely no waits for our food.

There wasn't any question going in what I would order. The hostess started things off perfectly and was exceptionally welcoming, setting a relaxing and comfy tone right away. The building has lots of charm. The dining room was beautifully and warmly decorated. They allow the character of the old house to shine. As for the much anticipated fish and chips, they were extremely well executed, and even more delicious. The fries were great, just fairly standard. The other components shined a lot brighter, for example the inclusion of minted peas was extraordinary. The "kitchen sink" remoulade in place of tartar sauce had to be darn good to make up for the omission of the classic, and it was. The coleslaw was also exceptional, creamy but still light. The fish of choice was a cod loin. That was the game changer. I find loin vs filet to make a world of difference. It stays far more moist, has more flavor, and has a much more pleasant texture for me. The breading was light and delicate, too. Every aspect of my experience at The Charles was excellent. I'm extremely anxious to go back. I have heard great things about their salads and appetizers, and they have a beautiful tented front lawn for outdoor dining in the summer I would like to try. The layout of even the bar is nice with seats by the windows and plenty of TVs playing the games without being disruptive. The building is gorgeous, well kept, and I can see how this restaurant gets packed quickly! But back to the gluten free crab cake. I would have loved some slightly larger chunks of crab, it was the crispy texture on the outside and soft inside that made my heart melt. The cakes sat lightly on an aioli and beside some greens, and each bit was delectable and delicious. Lovely appetizer. I also have the octopus basquaise, and I loved it. The potatoes needed just a smidge more seasoning and were sitting in oil, but I cared not, because it was an oil with Kalamata olives and tart, and how lovely it all was together. The octopus was nicely cooked and tender and not greasy. The potatoes were a lovely vessel, and the aioli was not too overpowering. A delicious fish overall. The service was great, friendly, and you can tell they love their regulars. Everyone was on the move at all times and overall very efficient and kind. Tons of gluten free dishes naturally. I loved coming to The Charles and look forward to coming back later this week to try their actual dishes.
