We really wanted to like this place. Read all the positive reviews. I'll start with the good. We went on a Saturday night and were greeted and seated promptly with no reservations. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food however.... Funny someone else mentioned the glass and marks all over. I ordered a glass of wine and there were streaks all over the glass. We ordered the Mexican fondue and it was very bland and had almost no chorizo. Also ordered the soup special- corn and white bean. Not much corn to be found. My husband had the bacon wrapped meatloaf- waiter said it was the best thing on the menu. It was not. Bacon was completely raw and the meatloaf was not seasoned. I had the truffle burger, the cheese was not melted on top and there was not much of a truffle taste. The fries had been sitting under a heat lamp and were not crispy. read more

Pretty freaking awesome... we have been looking for a place to splurge for awhile with some other couples, and this place caught my eye. We arrived with a reservation on a Friday night and were quickly seated at our table. Pretty good beer selection, their IPA by Compass was fantastic. Food: Being that we're all foodies we shared our dishes naturally between the six of us. Everyone's meals were good, while a couple were all-stars. Apps Filet mignon truffled tator tots... need I say more the steak melted in your mouth. Pancetta Roasted Asparagus: Asparagus was grilled/seasoned to perfection. Special sushi roll: Pretty tasty considering this isn't an asian restaurant. Entrees I have a hard time saying no to scallops over an english pea risotto. This dish was just ok, the scallops lacked that nice caramelization and the risotto was bland. Both Food 101 and Latitude's scallop dish had it beat by a mile. Duck 3 ways was fantastic. The real star of the night was my wife's steak delmonico with a beet sauce and blue cheese mashed potatoes. Absolutely incredible cut and cook on the steak and every part of the dish could stand on its own, but combining everything into one bite really made for one amazing mouthful! Dessert We again shared a several desserts (sadly everyone pretty much wanted the same thing). We got the Bruleed Tres Leches cake and the Mississippi Mud Cake. The Tres Leches cake was definitely the crowd favorite. The creaminess and flavor of the cake combined with the caramelized top was divine... my mouth is watering just writing about it. Ambiance The place was decorated nicely, clean, and good lighting. As far as sound the restaurant is quite loud, which I think is more of an acoustics/building material issue vs the patrons or the music. Not a big deal for our group but if looking for an intimate evening, may not want to venture here on the weekend unless they have some private dining area I'm not aware of. Waitstaff Overall good, had to be reminded about a couple of drinks, but in their defense this was a Friday night. Overall: I would definitely go there again, but seeing as I'm just now venturing into Hartford to see what they have to offer, it will be awhile. I've got a pretty big list to check off. read more

Max's Trumbull Kitchen - Steak delmonico with blue cheese mashes potatoes, sautéed endive in a beet sauce. - New American Near Me - Hartford, Connecticut

I don't think I've ever given a restaurant 5 stars, but I must say...TK deserves it. Excellent service, starting with a variety of bread and this crispy ... thing. haha. WARNING: we definitely over-ordered, but the food was so good we ate it all. "Appetizer": We ordered sushi: 1) Spicy Yellowtail Tuna and 2) Volcano Roll Both DELICIOUS. The Spicy Tuna was perfect and the crunchy strips were a perfect touch. The Volcano Roll was a hit--the outside of the sushi was fried (but lightly covered in batter--unlike other thick oily versions) the orange sauce was spicy and there were generous amounts of tuna on top of the sushi. DEFINITELY recommend it. "Entrees": 1) Seafood Pad Thai: comes in a bowl, slightly spicy and unlike most other pad thais ive tried. large shrimp and scallops 2) New York Sirloin: delicious and well prepared. comes with red potatoes and is very tasty. 3) Macadamia Crusted Sea Scallops: so tender and juicy. comes with around 6 or so scallops and tasty coconut pilaf. 4) Chicken (the only chicken entree): a bit dry. the least spectacular dish of the night but still comparatively good. the veggies (particularly the spinach) that comes on the side is flavorful and a great side! The best part--sushi. The worst--finding street parking. We made reservations but the restaurant was pretty slow when we arrived at 615pm. read more

Trumbull Kitchen in a rarity in downtown Hartford....Excellent food in a trendy restaurant. On the day I dined, they had a pork tenderloin special. This dish was was the perfect way to welcome the fall weather. It was well cooked and plated, and the flavors were to die for. I followed it up with the chocolate cake, which was incredibly rich! The restaurant was busy, and it can be a bit loud, so be prepared. If you're heading to a show at the Bushnell, you can enjoy a nice walk across the park after dinner....a good way to work off the chocolate cake which you will certainly enjoy! read more

It seems like probably a good place for a happy hour as it was packed at the bar but the dining area and the food was not worthy the price. We arrived as a group and they didn't even ask where we would like to sit and Stuck us in a corner of the dining area. Food was lacking flavor, I had the Beef ribs which was just dry and tasteless, one of my friends had the pasta with shrimp which was not good as well. Customer service was terrible. Sorry but there are other wonderful choices in Hartford. read more

I regularly work in Hartford Connecticut and this place is expensive, obnoxious and pretentious. They didn't allow me to order a drink because my ID was expired. As a 31 year old, I felt insulted and embarrassed. I have no idea what an expired ID has anything to do with my DOB. My friend's ID was also expired and she was allowed to drink. Could it simply be that this rude establishment is just racist? Wouldn't be surprised. Thankfully, there was an Awesome, less stuffy and trendy venue down the block at the Russell where my business was welcomed. This place blows! read more

I was in Hartford to start my new job and came to Trumbull Kitchen. The city and the restaurant were pretty much dead and it was Father's Day! Thankfully, the staff at Trumbull Kitchen were friendly and made me feel welcome. Also, the beer and food were good. I wasn't head over hills with this place, but I did think it was overall good. read more

I REALLY wanted to give this place 5 stars, honestly, I did. The decor is really trendy and the fiance and I were able to have a pretty quiet, amazing dinner before we went out to a show. BUT! He and I ordered drinks at the same time - first he ordered a root beer float and I ordered a Bellini. (The float is made with gelato, not ice cream - he said it was absolutely awesome). I never got my Bellini. Then he switched over to Bud Light. I was still left with CT's nasty tap water. Finally, she was passing by and I asked her if she could check on the Bellini and she admitted it was her mistake, but I mean, he polished off 2 drinks while I was still waiting, her service was THAT slow. He ordered the sirloin, which was delicious (I feel as my duty to Yelp, I must try as much as I can, so I didn't feel the least bit guilty about invading his plate space with my fork). I ordered the corn chowder and the goat cheese salad - both were part of their Farm to Table program - bringing fresh produce directly from local farms. Both were quite possibly the best I'd had, ever. The food was fresh, flavorful and interesting. read more

I had always wanted to try Trumbull Kitchen and last Taste of Hartford I got my chance. I'm more of a...wear my yoga pants to Chipotle kind of girl, so it was fun to make a reservation, dress up, and have a martini. I highly recommend using the Open Table reservation system--I was at the hostess table with another older couple--they came in after us-yet the hostess asked them first (gah, ageism plagues me again) but they didn't have a reservation so we were sat first, that felt pretty good. We had the angus and scallops st. jauques and it was FABULOUS. The manager on duty came around and I told him--dude you gotta get this on the regular menu. I understand it can't always be $23 but still--get it on there for however much it really costs. It had everything I wanted--beef, scallops, mashed potatoes and green beans. Love it. Also enjoyed watching the Red Sox game on the big screens. read more

Meh. Went here Saturday night pre- a concert at the XL Center. I called ahead and was told that the dining room was booked all night but that we could maybe find a spot at the bar...when we got there, no joke, there were several tables empty and 5 open spots at the bar... ok... We sat at the bar and My gf and I got the Rock Shrimp & Sweet Potato Fritters, kale and spinach salad, hangar steak (me), shrimp cobb salad (her). The fritters were pretty oily and didn't taste much like anything. Definitely couldve used more shrimp as the shrimp: potato ratio was 1:3. Our kale salad came late but the bartender took it off the bill which was cool. I was also bummed at their bourbon selection as I got an old fashioned with Maker's ( i mean, Maker's is standard but I expected more..). My hangar steak was actually really good but i felt like the dish was a little colder than i wouldve liked- I like a really hot plate. My gf's salad was deconstructed-it looked like a fajita set-up plate. the decor was cool and its in a good location but it was pretty pricey and not really worth it as i'd go elsewhere. read more

TK has the best happy hour in the city. The tapas are 1.99 and the happy hour menu changes one the first of each month. They have several monthly drink specials and a generally diverse menu. My favorites on the regular menu are the sushi, wings, and the Angus Burger. They have special butters and spreads that change daily. The service is spotty depending on the day and whether or not you are having a full meal.... generally the happy hour staff is less friendly and more overwhelmed than the general wait staff. read more

So I have been here for happy hour about 10 times. Its great because it goes until 7 (most places end at 6) and there is usually at least one veggie option on the list. And for 2 bucks- not too shabby. And drink specials to boot. The food is always pretty good, not particularly memorable, and often trying just a bit too hard (caviar on potato chips- seriously?). That is kind of my impression of TK in general. That quiet girl you went to high school with, down at the end of the bar, in stilettos and an ill-fitting suit, laughing just a little bit too hard at the jokes told by the guy that she clearly met on Match. TK is just trying a bit too hard, and you end up feeling a bit dirty watching it all play out. Like you want to cheer her on and hope he is the one, but you also know you will go farther in life just because you have a good tailor. You know what I mean? That being said, I have eaten dinner here as well quite a few times. Again, quite disappointed there is no veggie entree option. Can you work on that TK? My husband adores the filet appetizer with truffled tater tots (the tots are superb--- i am not one of the veggies worried about meat cooties). The salads here are quite delicious. And the fondue is pretty awesome. All a tad pricier than they should be. Oh well. read more

I ended up here in an effort of looking for something good and open on a Saturday afternoon in Hartford. I walked in and the place was well appointed. Warm wood, impressive wine rack over the bar. Modern TV's by the bar, providing college football in an informative, yet not overpowering way. The staff was very friendly and my waiter had great comments and suggestions about the menu items. I elected for one of the appetizers, rock shrimp and sweet potato fritter. When it was delivered, it smelled divine. Served with a sweet Asian sauce. Scrumptious. Be careful, they retain heat well. I also ordered the meatloaf. It sounded too good to pass up. And I am glad I didn't. Imagine Mom's meatloaf recipe revamped by a gourmet chef. I almost licked the plate. This Place has great ambiance, can be dressy or casual, fantastic for singles, or a group. It was clean, spacious, the staff was warm and friendly and the food was great. read more

I've had the pleasure of dining at TK for team cocktail hours, birthday dinners, and lunches during Restaurant Week and i'll definitely be back. Out of the higher end restaurants Downtown I have to say that this is the one that delivers the most for your buck. The menu is diverse and the food is flavorful. I'm a big fan of the rock shrimp and I don't even typically eat seafood! The staff and service is fast and friendly and the atmosphere is warm and sophisticated. If you've got the money to drop, I'd recommend this over many places including Max's Downtown read more

I can't say enough about Trumbull Kitchen. They are always my go-to place for a special dinner, party or even just happy hour with a girlfriend. The food is always excellent and the service is spot on. On more than 1 occasion, Trumbull Kitchen has bailed me out when other restaurants have given me problems - like DISH. To make a long story short, I had reserved the private dining room at DISH and they kicked our party out 1 day before because they had a higher paying guest that wanted that room. Well, with only a days notice, Trumbull Kitchen hooked us up with the private dining room upstairs without any problems. Trumbull Kitchen knows how to get and keep their clientele. read more

Thank you TK!!! A pair of earrings fell out of my pocket in the ladies room and I didn't realize until hours later. I popped back in on my way home and the manager quickly produced a sealed envelope with them in there!! Someone had turned them in and the TK staff had put them aside. Very professional and courteous :-) Oh, food (Chiang Mai noodles...mmmmmm), beverages and service are top notch...always a great experience! read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! I've been here a bunch of times. I would say that there isn't much you could find wrong with this place. The food is delicious and the menu is very interesting. I have made it a habit to come here after I visit the Mark Twain home, which I have done a few times, and it is a nice outing. If you get small plates during happy hour, it is a GREAT idea! I got the chicken wings and a little slider Sammy, and paid less than $10 for it. Plenty of food! The chicken dinner is DELICIOUS!!! Also the stone pizzas are good (I think that is what you call them). It is also pretty inside, but the bar area is kind of small if you want to go there for happy hour. My only issue with this place is the wait for food at times. I have had very long wait times for the food to come out on a few occasions, and the staff is just so-so with the friendliness. Doesn't matter though, I still recommend it. read more

I almost didn't eat here tonight. On travel, long day, tired...and closer options. But I wanted to try something else downtown. I wander in, sit at the bar, and behold, it's Restaurant week. $25 for 3 courses. I order the Corn Chowder, Scallops & Grilled Peaches. Score, score, score. Corn chowder, perfectly balanced broth (not too creamy, not to thin) chunks of corn and other goodies, perfectly crisp bacon. Scallops. Oh my. Maybe the best scallops I've eaten in a decade. Utterly perfect. Grilled peaches. Savory, refreshing & spot on. Amy L., bartender made me a darn, near perfect Sazerac to start, and was charming, attentive and delightful. Without question, on my "must eat here again" list next time in town. read more

3.44444 stars I keep hearing good things about the Hartford food scene. Hungry and in a hurry we stopped here. The room is somewhat narrow and cavernous towards the back. Get a booth if you can. The tables for two are a bit tight. The bar is spacious and they have large high-top seating in the adjacent area. The lighting was on the dim side. What we had: Asian Lettuce Cups - nice execution better than PF Changs Chiang Mai Curried Noodles - again for neo-Asian well done chef. Hawaiian Kona Snapper - well cooked, not over done, Herb Cured Brick Pressed Chicken - best dish very hearty, rich. Service was top notch and attentive. * one offering from the Max Restaurant Group * seems like a good business lunch spot or after work hangout * parking is tough, garage next door. read more

Good food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, big bar with a couple of very well picked beers on tap. The menu seems like 75% American steak house and 25% Asian fusion which is ok since they seem to do both very well. Not cheap but I though a fair price for the quality. Very busy so I would get a reservation. Came here with a group of guys before a concert. We tried several apps: wings, rock shrimp, pork dumplings and the hit of the night the fillet mignon skewers. Skirt steaks, pork shank and salmon were all raved about. Worth a stop if you are in the area. read more

There's a rule that I go by when deciding a restaurant is worth a return trip for my time and money - you can have good food and bad service OR bad food and good service, BUT YOU CAN NEVER HAVE BOTH BAD FOOD AND BAD SERVICE. I had really wanted to like this restaurant. Many good things have been said about Max Restaurant Group. It seemed promising. I wanted to be able to tell my friends in the NYC area that there is food up in Hartford! Except that... this was an utter failure. I'm not trying to be pretentious or whatever... but if I'm going to pay more than $10 a plate for food, it just better be worth it. If restaurants or restaurant groups want to compete with Manhattan & Westchester, they really need to step up their game. Like, when I go to Q in Mount Kisco, it's not fine dining, but costing me $14 for a giant amount of pretty awesome food served by pleasant people... that works. Trumbull Kitchen -- trying to look upscale with white linens, candle lights, requiring reservations... only to serve me what was probably the driest and least flavorful pulled pork and somewhat wretched fondue by a waitress that was never to be found and taking forever... just irritates me! Mind you, a friend in my group ordered the same thing as I did... and his food looked different!! What the ---?! Where's the quality control? Where's the getting what you ordered? Why is my plate of food different? Diners should not have to ask each other what's on each other's plate if they ordered the same thing. Plus, if the kitchen is going to change the plate a bit, I would hope that maybe, just maybe, the quality of the food would be different. Nope. Sorry. His pulled pork still left A LOT to be desired. Two of my other friends had ordered burgers. Maybe playing it a little safe. It is a little difficult to screw up a burger. After the ridiculously long wait between appetizer and main course, the food finally shows up. The burgers looked a little dry... and as if the chef's hand squashed the whole sandwich (there was a palm print on-the-bun, for goodness' sake). And as by what my Guinness drinking friends were telling me about the Guinness (and even a third person who doesn't even drink Guinness much)... wasn't that good. How do you screw up something that all you have to do is pour it? Granted there's a technique to pouring beer... but come on. I'm sorry. It doesn't take 30 damn minutes to pour beer.... or another 30 minutes to get us our check.... or 30 minutes to serve the main course after the appetizers have been cleared. It doesn't. Nor should I have had to constantly wonder where the hell our waitress was. I was about to go inside and harass the manager. And, no, I didn't even finish my food. I always finish my food. How do you like that? read more

Is this really downtown Hartford? Located near the Civic Center, this dining spot is so hip and the food is so fantastic you'd expect it to be in New York or San Francisco, not the less-than-thrilling insurance capital of the world. The decor is sleek - the walls are upholstered in leather, with the exception of one of clouded glass that allows a peek into the hectic kitchen - and there's a small loft area overlooking the main room that allows you to see without being seen, if people-watching is your thing. Cuisine doesn't get much more eclectic than this - you'll find pan-seared snapper with pumpkin-seed risotto and ahi tuna with coconut flake-flecked spinach on the same innovative menu as cheese fondue and a Reuben sandwich. Service is friendly and entrees are reasonably priced at less than $20. read more

Max's Trumbull Kitchen - New American Near Me - Hartford, Connecticut

Excellent value and quality. Our waiter was very experienced and catered to every one of my fussy requests without a single bat of an eyelid! The Prix Fixe menu was really wonderful. I had the oysters and halibut which were both served flawlessly. It does get a bit noisy because of the cool high ceiling, but it is a great classy place, especially considering almost every travel website in the world says Hartford SUCKS. This review is almost pointless because anyone looking for a place to eat in Hartford likely already knows about TK. A friend once tried to defend Hartford as "more than just a watered-down Detroit." Honey, don't flatter Hartford too much. If you happen to be stuck in Hartford and you're in need of some respite from the unremitting banality of the rest of the city, then head to Trumbull Kitchen. The food is excellent and fairly-priced...totally incongruent with everything else in Hartford. I've actually only sampled their "in between" meals menu, which in itself is more impressive than every other restaurant in Hartford. This "in between" menu features heavy-hitters like "Filet Mignon bights with blue cheese fondue;" $10. Nice. You'll find a mix of business travelers and upscale locals. Atmosphere is modern swank, great for old people who want to feel hip. They have a full bar complete with plasma flatscreens displaying some version of ESPN (with closed captions, of course, rather than blaring the actual audio...this ain't Applebee's!). That's it. Run, don't walk, to Trumbull Kitchen...then away from Hartford! read more

Having grown up in New York, I associate Hartford with two things: insurance and the Whalers incredibly cool jerseys. Ok, I just checked out Wikipedia and learned that Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in Hartford. Suffice it to say, I was skeptical about fine dining in Hartford. However, I am ready to eat my words (though I'd more happily eat another slice of Trumbull Kitchen's delicious chocolate pudding cake). The appetizers were AMAZING. We shared the filet mignon con tater tots, the spicy yellow fin crunch and the volcano roll. The filet mignon was otherworldly. The steak was incredibly tender with a lot of flavor and I loved the added crispiness of the tater tots. The volcano roll and spicy yellow fin were also outstanding. Our main dishes (herb cured brick pressed chicken, meatloaf and carmelized sea scallops) were yummy, but the coups de grace was the dessert. We had the chocolate pudding cake, which was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. It was listed as a special, but I can only hope that it will become a permanent addition to the menu. So I'm revising my Hartford list: 1) Whalers jersey 1a) Trumbull Kitchen 3) Mark Twain 4) Insurance No disrespect, Mr. Clemens. read more

Trumbull Kitchen doesn't need another great review, obviously, but I thought I'd provide a different perspective. Came here for lunch with a colleague, and as always, the atmosphere and service were great. Seated quickly, very attentive server. As a vegan, however, I was a little dismayed by the menu... it appears that their dinner offerings have a lot more veg options, but lunch was looking pretty limited. So, I went with the only thing that jumped out - the veggie burger (sans cheese). I don't love ordering veggie burgers as I've had some pretty bad experiences, but I figured it was my best bet, and it was more than that. It was, dare I say, the best veggie burger I've ever had?! Can this be? The burger was perfectly seasoned and had a fantastic texture - not mushy, not too firm, not full of breadcrumb filler, and tasted as though it was made with really fresh ingredients.. I definitely tasted fresh broccoli, carrots and onion. It came on a beautiful seeded bakery roll, and topped with sweet roasted tomatoes and pickled onions (I asked for no sauce/cheese, so it might some with more than that, traditionally). It was a huge portion, and I finished every. single. bite. Very pleasantly surprised to find a supremely tasty veggie burger here. Add a few more veggie options to the menu, and I might have to visit more often! read more

Went in spur of the moment around 9pm on Saturday. We had been moving my kid in across the street and needed some place close by to eat. I had checked out the yelp reviews but quite frankly was tired and got my restaurants confused. So, we were way under dressed and weren't in the right frame of mind for hip dark sat/ night downtown crowd. We had the angus burger, the chicken sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. Everything was good but it's hard to tell if it was because we were SOO hungry from all the manual labor or if it was the chef's doing. If we lived in the area I would try it again for drinks but when I go back to Conn. I will definitely try someplace else instead. read more

Normally, this place would have gotten only 2 stars from me but it gets a bonus star for having a full menu until midnight and the whole reason I went out last night was because I was starving. The staff was awesome though. We were allowed to sit anywhere we wanted and grabbed a window table with a good view. Our waitress was very friendly and recommended some good choices for the appetizers. The cheese and bacon fondue was one of the yummiest things I have ordered in a while, but we ran out of things to dip! We resorted to using the house bread to finish up the fondue and it was still quite satisfying. We also ordered a side of spicy Thai chicken wings and they were good too. The meat came right off the bone and they weren't as messy as traditional wings. But I just could not get into the place. It was dark, loud, and attracted an odd crowd. I think it was carpeted where I was sitting too. Eh. I think this place is trying hard to be trendy and upscale, but it doesn't quite make it. read more

I came here with a small group. The service was outstanding, I really appreciated their coat check. Our server (I forget her name) was outstanding. I was the pain of the group, requesting my chicken come with spinach instead of brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes instead of cous cous (or whatever it came with). My dinner was phenomenal. The others at my table ordered the pad thai, lettuce wraps, fondue, and pan seared tuna. Everything was delicious, my expectations exceeded. We didn't have room for dessert, I just had a cup of coffee. But several things looked good, and I have no doubt they would have tasted even better. Can't wait for my next trip to CT! read more

A trendy, cool, and upscale restaurant with a very concise but innovative menu. The salads are small and fairly unremarkable, but the grilled filet mignon appetizer with the truffled tater tots and blue cheese sauce was stupendous, plenty of food for two people and perfect for three or four. The meat was perfectly medium and tender despite being in bite size cuts. We also got the cheddar cheese and bacon fondue which came with large potato wedges. The flavor of the fondue was good, but not as sharp as I thought it might be. Also the bacon in the cheese wasn't fully cooked, which was a bit unappetizing, but the flavor it imparted was perfect. I had the Porchini Crusted Pork Tenderloin, which surprisingly was offered with a variety of doneness, so I went with the medium rare, which was absolutely wonderful. The tenderness was akin to a perfect steak, and the flavor was outstanding. The sundried tomato sauce was a bit sweet, but it worked with the pork in my opnion. The portion was perfect if you get an appetizer to go along with it. The prices are certainly on the high side, but I think that the quality is worth it. I've been here once or twice for drinks, and the appetizers are certainly satisfying when you want to have something upscale to nosh on. read more

TK just doesn't disappoint. It's like a little bit of NYC in Hartford. Had a bunch of food here with a work function. Everything was amazing, especially the berkshire pork dinner I inhaled!

3.5 stars but rounded it up because the atmosphere was nice The crowd was an after-work financial district crowd (much older than expected). Stopped in around 4:30 PM for their HH specials. Luckily it was right before the afterwork rush so we got to sit by the bar. $20 for a cheap, decent tasting HH meal for two people... what?! We each had a draft beer. Ordered the following off their HH tapas list: 1) Sriracha "Buffalo" Sliders (bacon, blue cheese, fried onions) - best tapa we ordered 2) Bulgolgi Tacos (kim chee aioli, spicy cabbage slaw): I'm Korean so I'm a little biased. The "bulgogi" wasn't bad if you remember it's Americanized (kind of bleh for Koreans) and the kimchi was not existent. It was more like pickled slaw. Minus it not matching its description, it was okay. 3) Pork Belly Confit Slider (black pepper aioli, arugula): mediocre Service was okay, although we had to flag the bartender down a few times. read more

We tried The Trumbull Kitchen out for the first time a couple nights ago. I've passed this place so many times while passing through downtown but have never bothered to stop in before. Let me just say I was pleasantly surprised. I had heard from others that the service was not always the best there and that it was kind of hit or miss. Our waiter was very accommodating the night we went so maybe we just got lucky. He was friendly, but not to the point where it is so sugary sweet.. it makes you vomit right before you eat. Sorry, I couldn't resist.. Anyways, he kept checking on us throughout the meal to see if we needed anything else or not. Of course I just had to order their chicken wings as my main entree, usually a staple in my 'dinner out' diet, lol. I have no complaints whatsoever about how they were coooked or prepared. I have not always had the best experience with some orders of chicken wings in the past. Either they have been to mushy on the inside or not enough crisp or crunch on the exterior. The ones at Trumbull Kitchen were perfect! Crispy enough, but at the same time not too hard or brittle like others I've had before. The corn chowder was just okay for my tastes. I'm not really a big fan of it to begin with but I thought I might try it anyways tonight to see if anything had changed. Not at all. (Something about the texture of the corn in any corn chowder, no matter how its prepared just doesn't set well with my tastes. But I did absolutely LOVE the roasted asparagus!! It had this zesty kind of sauce which I have never have before and it really brought out the flavor. That being said I am kind of partial to asparagus to begin with, being that its one of my favorite vegetables so I'm sure that helped to. I would probably come back here in the future, though probably not in the late afternoon or early evening. The music really was kind of over-powering at times especially when your trying to enjoy a meal out with friends or family. Some music in the background is okay but you also want to be able to hear each other without having to yell over it or strain your ears to hear what others are saying. Other then that I would not say I had any other real bonafide complaints. I did want to give 5 stars but the music was just to loud. In fairness thought, I would say my overall experience here was 4.5 stars. I thought it was reasonably priced and I also thought they had good, friendly service. I felt like they really value what they do and their pride in their restaurant shows to the customers read more

One of the more reliable and stylish places downtown. Rarely do you get a bad meal. Part of the Max empire that always seems to provide a quality experience. On a recent visit, I had a New Yorker sushi roll, which included delicious seared New York Steak and pieces of avocado in a traditional sushi roll presentation. Dinner was seared tuna over wasabi mashed potatoes and a parmesan cream. Delish. My friend had a shrimp Cobb Salad, which looked quite good, and also had the tuna sushi, I think, which he said was quite good.
