Their rock shrimp is AMAZING!!!! I should've ordered an extra order of them to take home with me. I also had their oysters, which are only .99 each during happy hour. They were really good also. This restaurant is super cute and all of the staff are super friendly. It's right in the heart of downtown so it's the perfect place to go for happy hour. They have valet parking so you don't have to worry about struggling to find parking. read more

Great food. Good vibe. Excellent service. Lovely time with friends and family for dinner.

Went here for happy hour (which goes to 7) with my sister-in-law before a show at Hartford Stage. The happy hour menu has great prices. We sat at a table in the bar and it took about 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server. Once we were finally greeted, our server was great. We had the trout from the HH menu which was delicious - the potatoes were burnt (which wasn't a big deal because I don't eat potatoes, but come on... don't put them on my plate). The chicken sausage was dry but the house made mustard made it yummy enough. We also shared the tuna tartare which was absolutely the highlight and highly suggested. I've never had a WOW experience here but I come back from time to time because I love the location and ambiance. read more

Good food & great staff. Just the warming comfort, food -- well prepared -- to take the edge off a travel day

Try everything here. You won't be disappointed in anything you order. The staff is knowledgeable and professional.

Food is very good, but staff seems pissed to work there. I have even canceled an order and left... yep, that bad. Going back tonight for 3rd chance at a good experience. I live within walking distance and the food is terrific, so I hope it works out. Otherwise will wait another year and wait 'til they turn over their servers or the manager that's making them miserable. read more

Husband and I are in Hartford for the weekend and thought we'd try this place. Glad we did! We shared two small plates, a Caesar salad, and the pork shank. Szechuan Pork Dumplings: Unusually delicious. Don said they reminded him of the ones we used to get in LA Chinatown. Asian Lettuce Cups: Freaking delicious. Could have gone on eating just this for dinner. Very generous with the filling. We got shrimp. (Not messy or anything, ha.) Caesar salad: One of the best we've eaten. With anchovies, yum. Crackling Pork Shank: A bit of crackling fat with pork was fabulous. I was not a fan of the bed of beans, myself, though he liked it. A little too much cumin for me, and not enough salt. Carrot waffle cake: Oh my. Out of the stellar dessert options, this stood out, and it was incredible. Cream cheese frosting melting in the waffle squares, with delicious vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, and caramel. Just enough of everything, just right for sharing, quite sweet. Our waitress Melissa was adorable, helpful, sweet, and made our evening special. The host James was attentive and introduced himself. We shared about why were in Hartford, and we even got talking about literature. He gave us three recommendations for seafood on the shoreline for the next day. Great interior too, with lots to look at. It's definitely loud and upbeat. If we ever get back to Hartford, I'd like to eat here again. read more

Great staff, great chef and an overall great experience. Causual lunch options or fancy pants nice dinners. Great food options like pizza for kids and nice wine and beer options well. I know nobody really likes going to Hartford but this place is totally worth it. Stop reading this and just go have yourself a great meal! read more

We went to Trumbull Kitchen after work but before a yard goats game. A friend lives near by and we were meeting him there. It was packed at 5:45pm but we were lucky enough to find a table. We tried the avocado toast, which was delicious. Seriously. With a fried egg on top and a not completely set yolk, it was Devine. We also tried the lobster sandwich (which left something to be desired), and the panko crusted tots. My partner also tried the citrus sangria and it was really good. Although it seemed like the kitchen was a bit behind - it was understandable. It's interesting because I just went to their website to look at the menu to make sure I didn't miss anything and they haven't updated the happy hour menu to April by the 9th. read more

The service was not good. I got the food exactly 50 minuets after ordering. I have zero problem with kitchens taking their time and hate fast food, but as I asked the waiter after 30 and 45 minuets, he did not check and said it just takes time. If you know it's going to be over 45 minuets, you should say before. With all that said, the veggie burger and truffle fries were both very good read more

I went here with my mother before a concert about a week ago, it was the closest restaurant around the xfinity center with the best reviews, so I thought I'd give it a try. Honestly, I wasn't thrilled with the service or the food. The best thing I can say that I ate was the calamari as an app. It is spicy so if you don't like spicy I wouldn't recommend it. Lucky for me it was perfect to my liking. I ordered the pulled pork burger (13$) and my mother ordered the seafood pad tai. The burger was alright I wouldn't say it was amazing but it was enough to fill me. It also looked like a mess (look at the picture I posted of it) My mother however was really upset with her plate because the bowl was really small. It was also in a bowl that I don't think is suitable to serve pad tai in, especially for the price that it was, it was not worth it. It brought 3 shrimps and maybe 2 scallops for 27$. This honestly looked like an appetizer plate and this was the entree size. I saw the pictures on reviews but trust me in person it is a small size bowl. As for the service, I don't even know where to begin... the waiter was attentive in the beginning because it was just us and another family. Once it got busy it just so happened that they gave the waiter all these tables on just his section. He did not know how to alternate between tables because all he did was focus on one and would forget about the rest. Not to mention he was talking about random things that didn't even matter and the customers were annoyed. Another worker came to give us our food and he did not check on us afterwards. I got no ketchup with my burger and fries. We had no refills on water and my mother had been waiting on hot sauce for a half hour. He completely forgot about us didn't bring us the check until I don't even know how long... we had to call him over. My mother did not finish her meal and asked for it to be wrapped to bring home. He takes it and later brings back the check without her food. By that point we assumed he threw it away because he didn't come for another 20 mins. My mother was furious and went up to him and he said he forgot and finally brought her back the food wrapped. On the check you are forced to tip 18% (that being the lowest you can tip) and we really didn't even want to tip that amount because he did not deserve it at all, but ultimately had no choice. I don't get what the hype about this restaurant is, it is definitely not worth 4 and a half stars, has over priced meals with awful service. I will not come here again when in Hartford. read more

Max's Trumbull Kitchen - BBQ Pork Sandwich (13$) - New American Near Me - Hartford, Connecticut

In Hartford for a conference and ran a cross this place on a Sunday evening. I eat a fair amount of Thai food, and am familiar with typical American Thai. I wanted something simple, so I ordered the coconut fried rice, and was not disappointed. It tasted fresh and light. The veggies (peas, carrots, onions) were not over cooked or dry, and the rice was not heavy as sometimes Americanized fried rice is. The shrimp was small but tasted fresh. I ordered medium spicy but it was very mild. Service was fast and accommodating, but there were only 5 or 6 customers. Price was very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food read more

Came here for a work lunch and I'm glad I did. Service was attentive and the menu was well designed as it had just the right amount of appealing options. I had the mahi mahi sandwich with sweet potato fries. Fries seasoned well and most importantly crispy which is rare. The fish itself was also nice seasoned Cajun style and cooked perfectly - it was worth the bit of wait. read more

Had takeout. Asked for medium-well and got a very pink burger. The chicken wings seemed previously frozen. The noodles were a mushy mess. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 for being open late. But if you're open late the food needs to be good late. The ketchup was stellar. read more

Amid covid19 it's hard to find anything to do. Normally I stay home due to the pandemic, however, for our anniversary we wanted to have a small peice of pleasure. So we decided to go to trumbul kitchen since the last time we enjoyed it so much. I ordered a steak and coincidently so did my husband. Lol. I had the wings for an appetizer which were good. My husband order steak that had a tater top and blue cheese dressing. He loved it, I thought the taters didnt add anything and the blue cheese sauce was not for me. Our steak came and it was a decent flank steak with fries. The sauce was mushroom sauce which I enjoyed but my husband did not. He also felt that the steak was burnt and didnt have much flavor. This I would agree, but the gravy helped a lot. It came with a side of fries that was not necessary as the vegs and steak was enough. We also ordered chicken strips for our child. It was crispy but had absolutely no flavor, she refused to eat it. The strips had a salad, apple wedges, a cookie and fries. All in all, we were very disappointed in our meal. I'm not sure if it's the same chef or who designed the menu but is sure didnt seem like the same person. We also ordered the carrot cake that was make in a waffle machine. The cake was a spice cake but it was as if there was too much cinnamon in it which made it bitter. The waffle was cute but way too dense. It came with a small scoop of ice cream and fresh whipped cream with coconut peices. The whipped cream needed sugar and the coconut didnt add to the flavor. The reason they received 2 stars is because the waiter was very nice. The hostesses were well dressed and inviting. Wished the food was up to par as they were at the taste of hartford. read more

Once again; Trumbull Kitchen was outrageously wonderful. From the time we arrived and were warmly greeted by Johnny--lunch was just terrific. We started with drinks and the understanding that we were going to see Anastasia at the Bushnell. Lunch was perfectly paced to ensure that we were not rushed; yet, able to enjoy every aspect. The sweet potato shrimp fritters were served hot and just delicious. My friend had the volcano sushi and I had my usual: chicken lettuce wraps. Both were delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. Johnny is a wonderful, kind and gracious server; he is an integral part of our visit to Trumbull Kitchen. Once again; they came through with terrific food and excellent service! read more

I came here on a Saturday early afternoon with friends for lunch. I ordered a burger & truffle fries. I ordered the burger medium, as expected, it came out well done with zero pink on the inside. The fries were warm, not hot, soggy, & had obviously been sitting in a warming bin just waiting to be served to unsuspecting customers expecting fresh, hot, crispy fries when they're paying almost $20 for the combo. They had a small but ok tap list. The best thing about my experience here was our waitress who was absolutely awesome. She gave us the best service & was on top of everything. Too bad the food here was blah & mediocre. I definitely will not be back nor will I recommend this place to others. read more

Ate here last weekend for lunch/dinner. We all had amazing burgers. My daughter had the truffle burger which was exceptional! Drinks were great also. This place has a very nice, welcoming vibe. I want to give a big shout out to our host, Phil. It was our first time in Hartford and we asked him for suggestions on what to do for the weekend. His suggestion of shopping in West Hartford and a winery suggestion was perfect! He even went out of his way to get the address for the winery. Thank you Phil for helping to make our weekend a complete experience. read more

Trumbull Kitchen is a great spot for a business lunch or happy hour because it really caters to all tastes. Though I had a good experience with the service, I felt like the quality of the food left something to be desired. Then again, maybe my expectations were too high for a spot that serves burgers, Pad Thai, meatloaf, sushi, quesadillas, and pizza (the stone pies) all on one menu. But again, everyone can find something that they like. With limited vegan options, I ended up going with the Pad Thai, which was okay but I probably wouldn't order again. Sadly, I also learned that none of the fries are vegetarian or vegan, as all of their meat and potatoes gets cooked in one fryer, nor is the side of kimchi fried rice. read more

Out of all the Max restaurant I've been to, TK is by far the tastiest and most consistent. The food is life changing and the prices are unbeatable. The restaurant itself is very trendy. The bar is always full on the weekend, and I recommend making a reservation for dinner, every time I've been here they are poppin. The brick chicken is phenomenal, I recommend that. I have not had anything on the menu I didn't like. The service is brilliant. Everyone has a personality and is so warm. Management goes out of their way to make sure everyone leaves happy, which isn't too difficult, since the food speaks for itself. All in all, this is hands down the best restaurant in Hartford and one of my top favorite places to eat. read more

D i s g u s t i n g Hartford Connecticut doesn't have a food scene so if you're expecting something good look further, actually better yet just go to the grocery store and make something yourself guaranteed wouldn't be half as bad as the food they try to play off as chic and delicious. Where's the seasoning y'all? You really giving a bad name to Hartford definitely not worth coming back to or even mentioning. This area just like many little cities around the USA open upscale Applebees but honey I would have rather eaten at an Applebees where at least I know they put some sort of effort into their food. It's really sad to see how many people pretend this place is good? Maybe everyone has a lot of money to spare on very bland and boring food. read more

Came here for an early "dinner" on Saturday (a little bit before 5), and this place was packed - we were only able to eat at the bar since the main dining area had been all reserved up for the night. This was not a problem since we came here on a whim and didn't mind sitting at the bar. We weren't super hungry, so we decided to get a few appetizers instead of large plates so we could try more of the menu. We ordered the Asian lettuce cups (chicken), short rib steamed buns, and calamari. All of the food was good. The standout by far were the short rib buns - definitely would order over and over again!! A small plate of two bao-style steamed bread buns, with short ribs and kimchi and a tasty sauce - I didn't want them to end. The calamari was good, also Asian influenced, but the dipping sauce was a little odd... The lettuce cups were fun too - they're "diy" and you get to assemble the meat mixture of your choice with a bunch of toppings and dipping sauces. Overall the food was good, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere was pretty nice too. Service was friendly. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu when I have a little bit more of an appetite! read more

In the area for an event and this was one of the few places open past 10pm. It's too bad the food here was pretty good, because the waitress we had was rude. Maybe she was having a bad day or maybe she was stressed because we were a large party (14 people) but that's no excuse to be rude to your customers. She only took half of the orders then left, brought half of the drinks or food at a time, and took plates away or brought plates without saying excuse me. The food was pretty good - I had the calamari and spinach and artichoke dip, which were both very tasty. The calamari had an unexpected spice and the dip had very good pita chips. I had the shrimp Cobb salad as an entree which was very fulling, and tried the fries which were also very crunchy and flavorful. read more

Spent $1,100 here on a corporate team dinner only to have this greasy idiot come at the end, after I paid, tell us we were being too loud at 10pm when the place was almost empty. Instead of being professional and pulling me aside to tell me what he thought so I could handle it appropriately he treated the whole group like a bunch of 4 year olds. Very unprofessional and very dissapointing. Last time I will ever take a corporate event here and I would advise no one else ever does, there are better options in hartford where you will be treated with appropriate levels of respect given what you are paying. read more

Had a fabulous meal tonight at TK. We were driving through the Hartford area on the way home from Boston and stopped in for dinner. I have been here a few times prior to college basketball games across the street at the civi center and alway enjoy it. Tonight the Gumbo was well spiced with chunks of chorizo, chicken plenty of okra great flavor. I went with the cup instead of the bowl but I would recommend the bowl. The cup was just a tease. My wife had 2 great shrimp cocktail. She also had the filet appetizer for her main meal and it was very nice. We both thought the Blue cheese was a little strong but that could not detract from the high quality filet cooked perfectly medium rare like she requested. I had the meatloaf for my main dish. I am sucker for a good meatloaf on any menu. The loaf was two medium large slices that were juicy and delicious. The garlic sauce on the side was fabulous and the green beans were perfect. I skipped the mashed potatoes and instead got the Thai cauliflower dish - that was amazing. Cooked but still crunchy cauliflower with a nice Asian inspired dressing - well done. The staff was great and friendly and the place clean and well appointed. read more

The food is above average but hygiene was the worse I thought I was tripping but not in this case. I witnessed a bagger for my to go meal wipe his nose switch his hand and the sweat off his face. Yum!!! This place was really good. We started with the spinach and asparagus dip, which was wonderful! The pita chips were delicious. It was a small portion, but I would almost expect that from a higher end place. I had the grilled Chicken pasta and that too was good. Had such wonderful flavor to it! I think my favorite thing was the cram cheese spread that they bring out with the bread. It had a nice garlic taste to it and complimented the warm bread nicely. When I'm in Hartford I'll definitely be back read more

Our reservation was honored but had to ask to be moved to a slightly better table. That went OK. The place was absolutely not crowded and they must be instructed to move the tables over quickly regardless. Even that was OK until the effect of the pasta Dish caused significant and totally surprising stomach pain and diarrhea. Really did not have anything else so I have to assume that it did come from that particular meal. Obviously, takes a few stars away from my review! Just be careful although what I ordered should not have caused the problem so I would be hesitant to go back read more

Rude, the staff here was so rude to me as if my money wasn't as good as those dining in. I'd ordered a simple salad to go. Not anything complex. I was told 20 minutes, showed up in 20 minutes, went to the bar to get my lunch and proceeded to be ignored by not only the bartender but also 3 different staff members before I spoke up saying that I needed to be waited on. I was told my order was being packed up, waited another 5 minutes, and while waiting witnessed a waiter pouring leftover champaign from a flute back into the bottle and corking it, and placing it back into the under counter fridge. DISGUSTING. Finally, I got said salad, got back to my office and upon opening the container, half of the salad was missing. Needless to say, what was supposed to be a flavorful Tuscon salad, ended up being dry chicken with wilted salad greens. Not worth the money or the time I took out of my day. Maybe it's a better experience if you dine in, but I'll never visit again and waste my money. read more

I've spent a few weeks in Hartford on business, and I've been disappointed in the food options, until i found the Trumbull Kitchen. It's a big place, with a long bar, high tables, low tables, and booths. The acoustics are such that a loud conversation at one table doesn't disturb another. I'm surprised that more restaurants don't pay attention to this. On the road on business, I tend toward a basic burger in a new place, and that was true here. Trumbull Kitchen understood that when I said rare I meant it. The burger didn't include bacon, but they added it. Both the burger and the fries were delicious. There's an extensive on draft beer selection. After a taste, I went with a LongTrail DoubleBag AltBier. Loved it. Being a whiskey guy, after dinner I went with a "New Fashioned," mainly due to the High West double Rye, a personal favorite. I ordered it up, which I recommend. It did not disappoint. I had to go for the same again. If you're in town on business, or you live here, do drop by the Trumbull Kitchen. I'll certainly be back. read more
