I had an appointment scheduled for this past Saturday, 11/29/2025, at another Mavis location nearby for an inspection. They called me Friday and again Saturday morning to let me know their machine wasn't working and rescheduled my appointment for Monday, 12/1/2025. When I got there on Monday, they told me they didn't have any stickers. I called the Mavis in Wappingers Falls and they said I could bring my car in for an inspection. I went immediately and dropped it off. He said it would be a few hours because there was one car in front of mine to be inspected and they were also getting their brakes done. I said that was fine and I had someone pick me up and bring me back to work at around 9 AM. Finally, around 1:15 pm, I got a call back from someone at Mavis Wappinger's telling me they couldn't inspect my car or pass it because the rear window was too dark. I had a coworker bring me back. At first, I thought they meant maybe my rear side windows, which they measured and there are 0% tint on them. There is no tint on my windshield, or any of my side windows. Apparently there's 20% VLT on my rear window. I bought this car used from NJ in 11/2018 and brought it to a mechanic in Poughkeepsie for New York State inspection right after. They removed all of the "illegal" tint and left the rear window as is. I honestly haven't thought about it since because my car has been inspected every year and it has never failed for any reason, including my rear window. They kept telling me my car wouldn't pass because of the darkness of the window. I brought up the DMV regulations that I showed here in my review. I printed them out and showed them to him. Rockell told me that the DMV website is outdated and that it was from 2017. I tried to explain that this is the most up-to-date information on the NYS DMV website and I can't find anything on the Internet anywhere that there has been any change in regulation. I even brought up that I had brought my car to this exact location within the past few years and they passed it and never once mentioned anything about my rear window. He told me that the regulations changed since then. When I asked him to show me the regulations, he brought up the third picture on his computer screen that I included in this review. It is a PDF file and not a website and there was no date showing when the file or "regulation" was from. He was showing me and I had to point out that my car is a 2016 and he was showing me regulations for a car that is 1991 or older. I asked him to scroll down and he was highlighting the section about the windshield. I kept repeating that it is not my windshield that has tint, but it is my rear window. He told me that he was new and when I asked him if he knew the difference between a windshield and a rear window, he told me he did not know. But that they get audited and it can cost them thousands of dollars. According to the NYS DMV website, you are able to have tint on your rear window as long as you have two working rear view side mirrors, which I have. The regulations they kept telling me applied to my car were for rear side windows, saying that my car is a passenger vehicle and only SUVs can have rear window tint. I have asked multiple mechanics and showed them the picture and they told me there was nothing wrong with my rear window. I left without my car getting inspected from them and he told me if I removed the tint that they would inspect it. As if I would ever go back there and give them any business ever again. I asked for my key back and he gave me the wrong key initially. All that and he didn't even know which car was mine. Do not get your car inspected here. My wife brought our car to this shop for its annual inspection. They flagged the car for a 1/2 inch star in the windshield and a smaller 1/4 inch scratch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the shop and asked what the issue was and they explained the situation. I asked them to look up the NY state regulation and refer to that. The person on the phone quipped "Are you an inspector?"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I said I was not trying to argue. But that I was trying to learn because the car passed two or three previous inspections with these very same scratches. I also asked that they show me the regulation when I arrive. When I arrived the young man who was their inspector showed my an "AI Overview". When I asked that he show me the actual regulation. He said "This is the regulation". Not wanting to argue and get this done quickly, I decided to take a trip down to Safelite like they recommended. When I arrived at Safelite, I showed their technician the pictures and they smirked at what they saw and said these are not disqualifying. We then went out to the vehicle and looked at the window and measured them. There were four of us and we couldn't even see the sharks from 5 feet away. They asked if I still wanted these repaired and I said sine I was here; yes. I went back to this Mavis Store and showed them the NY State regulation. The guy at the counter read it and acknowledged what it said. But didn't seem to want to cause any friction with the younger guy in the shop. We decided to not follow through with the inspection as they just stopped at looking at the window and hadn't gotten to removing the tires etc. I left him with the thought that social media was probably not the best place to get references for official inspection guidelines. As we left there was another customer who had his car rejected by them for a windshield infraction. I couldn't help but wonder. We went to another inspection station who also had the same reaction as the people at Safelite. At least my window now looks beautiful. But that evolution took all morning. read more

I dropped off my truck for the tire replacement 1/5/2026 they made an appointment for me at 8 AM in the morning. I showed up at eight. They told me it will be done by 9:30. I come back at 9:30. The truck is not even in. They tell me I'm next on the line that is take an hour an hour and a half max. They call me at 1:30 PM telling me that they're replacing the tires at that time even though I had an appointment at 8 AM in the morning, I wasted my day of work. They took two days to finish the job I show up at 8:30 AM 1/6/2026 they didn't do the job correctly even though I explained it to the three times and two workers gave me two different prices for it. I was supposed to be at work at 8 AM. I'm still here waiting for the job to be done. It's 10:30 AM. I will not recommend this place to nobody. It's a disaster. It took them two days to replace two tires and do a wheel alignment and balance of the tires. read more

Horrible- avoid at all costs. Misdiagnosed my tire issues twice in one weekend. They really don't know what they're doing here, do not trust them-it'll end up being more trouble than it's worth. They're also very slimy- on top of their lack of knowledge, they sold me a bad tire and would not replace it. Zero sympathy or regard for many issues, the guy who runs the front desk is insanely rude and defensive, I don't understand how he's still employed. Wasted a LOT of time and money here. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I had an 8 am appointment for a NY State inspection. I arrive on time only to be told there are no 8 am appointments and that I should come back at 9 am. I come back at 8:55 am and was told to have a seat I'm next. Huh? Shouldn't I be first? I complied and went right to Yelp. Just what I expected. LOL. Needless to say I took my keys back and left. TO MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRES: Forget your apology it means nothing. I have your 914 customer service number. Awful service. Made an appointment online for a simple inspection for 9 am. Show up at 8:30 to drop my car off, ask how long it'll take, they tell me a couple of hours and that they'll call when it's all done. Sounds good with me, I'll run a few errands before my doctor's appointment at 11:30. 10:30 rolls around and I think okay I guess I'll have to pick it up after my appointment, no big deal. The day goes by and still no phone call by 1 pm so I call. They say my car is up next and it should be done in an hour. So at 2 pm I show up to pick up my car thinking it'll be done or at least almost be done. They come out and say I'm so sorry we ran into an issue on another car and weren't able to get yours in. I tell them I brought it in at 8:30...clearly they didn't know that because they were apologetic and tried giving me a free inspection for next time and to reschedule my appointment....I, like them, have a life and responsibilities and a job and don't have the time to just wait around and make appointments after appointments and take a day off of work just to get my car inspected. And then this morning I get an email saying "sorry you missed your appointment!" Excuse me???? I didn't miss anything you didn't do your job! YOU missed MY appointment! Apparently my experience is different from others on here. I was in a bit of a bind I desperately needed 2 tires and an oil change, because of a death in the family I had to road trip with the kids and wife in my truck (since Biden's gas prices I've been using my old four banger to get around and the truck sat alone). Just HAPPENED to stop in to this Mavis location (on the way to Walmart) and explained my tale of woe and it had to go on credit Bc it was 2 days before payday. Got every coupon they could apply (they volunteered them) and an extra 10% civil service discount. Brought my car in for an oil change, tire rotation and inspection. I open the door after my service and there were grease stains on my seat!!!! WTF?!?!? Common sense would suggest to place some sort of plastic on the seat, but I guess these idiots have none. Obviously poor management here. Doubtful to return to this location. read more

my car broke down on the side of the road right by this establishment, the morning of me writing this. these kind people helped my car get out of the road with the assistance of a police officer without charge! They even found out what was wrong with the car and fixed it up for me and now its running just great. If it werent for these guys, I would have been paying close to $1000 dollars of car repair and towing fees. Thanks to them i only paid a little less than half of that! I go Mavis Tire since 1999. I live cross the street of this one so last 3 yrs I go there for my 3 car. Since day 1 I found this manager is very unprofessional. Last summer they did oil change and forgot to bolt under body plate. When we figured next day, he said we did it after got the car. I passed it. But every time I go there and feel he is kind of a sick guy. Never saw him in good mood. Never smiles! Finally for a very funny reason, he used extreme bad language with me at phone and later face to face. Whatever happened like I need some air or anything, he would say--I had to inform my regional manager! Anyway, this morning I was there to buy tire and he said "my regional manager said, not to sell you anything!" So I went another Mavis and happily bought my tire. If there was a zero or negative number review, that's what I'd give this store. I made an appointment on the Mavis Tire website a week ago for today at this location for a NYS inspection. When I arrived I was told they had no appointment in their system for me. I showed them my confirmation email with the work order number. They found the work order number, but told me they would not fulfill it. They told me that was just an automated email and meant nothing unless I had received a call from their store confirming my appointment. They told me they don't make appointments for inspections. I asked why I was able to make it online if it wouldn't be honored. They agreed it was a flaw in the online system. Long story short, they would not honor my appointment, said there were two cars ahead of me and it might mean waiting hours. I asked for a corporate headquarters number. They asked why. I said I wanted to file a complaint and say I felt their online system was flawed. He said no point, the call would just come directly to him and as he said, there was nothing he would do for me! Soooo, a little research later got me to Mavis Customer Service, and they got me an appointment at another local store later today. Word to the wise? Don't use this store, and call any of the other stores directly for appointments. Even their Customer Service Department admits their online service has "some flaws and problems"!! The Rt 9 Wappingers store needs to send their service reps for training in better customer service. Politeness and understanding go a log way to provide better customer service. read more

So I pull up about 15 minutes after closing because I got a flat on the road right next to them. I walk in and ask the the older tall gentleman that worked there if he can fix my flat. He said we are closed and there are no techs available. Meanwhile there were three other men that worked there just standing around talking. You would think they'd help someone with a flat but they couldn't. After he told me that I asked him if they can help me out just to get the spare on and he said very loud we are closed. So I just went outside and did it myself in the parking lot. Surprised with the attitude they had they didn't make me move my car and do it somewheres else. read more

I have written an earlier review praising how nice a job this store did on a set of my tires. I need to resend that review. The online price didn't match what I was being charged because the computer couldn't tell what kind of car I had so they could add new valves for the TPS system. Strange how I used the computer to determine what kind of tires I needed. They called and said I needed brakes. I knew this and planned to change them that night. They wanted to charge $240 just for the front brakes. This included rotors, even though the rotors where not glazed or scored. It should be noted that front brakes on a 2013 KIA optimum require about 15 minutes of work. I asked that they keep one of the best tires for a spare. They didn't and I had to call and have them find it. This will require a return trip to the shop. Thanks for that. The real problem comes in is that in trying to remove the left front tire to change the brakes, 1 hour after the tires had been done, the lug nuts would not come off. The lugs came off fine on the right side. I am a power lifter and it required a breaker bar and a 500 pound deadlift strength to remove these lugs. If I had had a flat on the side of the road I would never been able to remove the lugs. I am now worried about stretched threads. In speaking to Patrick the Regional manager he basically accused me of lying and saying they always follow factory specs but if I wanted to I could come down and watch the store tapes. Right, I am a former Marine and a educator, I am going to lie about lug nuts. Bottom line, they will lie to cover their errors, they leave out price information, and they do not follow detailed instructions that the customer requests (spare tire), and if you want your lug nuts over tightened this is the place to go. One more thing, if you want to have a conversation with a customer service minded manager, don't look for it here. I have purchased 4 sets of tires from Mavis in the last 2 years. I will never buy tires here again and I suggest you don't even if you have to pay a few dollars more some place else. read more

I brought both of my vehicles to this Mavis this year to have a winter wheels and tires mounted from tire rack. This past Saturday my dad needed help with a flat tire. I called the shop; they told me he could drop the car off because of a 1 1/2 hour wait (they were very busy). I asked if I could just bring the tire in (take it off his car and drop in my trunk). The girl on the phone went to ask if that would be OK. She told me to bring the tire/wheel in and the store manager would look at it. We got there and the service guy went out to get the boss. He was actually in the shop doing an alignment (must be a "working manager") , and said he would check the tire as soon as he was finished. About 20 minutes later he came out, grabbed the tire, and checked out the leak. He found a very small leak, showed us the bubbles coming out , patched it, balanced it, and we were out of there, after being there around 50 minutes total. They went out of their way on a very busy Saturday to help my dad out, and I'm (and especially my dad) very grateful for the customer service. I will be going there the next time I need tires. The service manager was also very friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. read more

1st time I took mu cat for service is when I had a flat tire. I didn't have an appointment but they took me in without a long wait. I was happy with the service but this time they made me wait 2 hrs even though I had an appointment. When I asked if all the other cars I watched them take in had appointment the person at the desk said most were with appointments but they were overbooked. He said they called customers to inform about the delays but I checked and there were no calls. After 2 hrs wait I just asked for my key and left. "We'll get you right in" - and two hours later they finally get me in. As I sat here I watched walk ins come, get service, and go. 3 hours and 25 minutes later I finally got out of there. Last week I went back to Mavis for tire rotation and oil change; I received an email saying come back. I liked Chris last year when I bought 4 tires, was treated very well and figured I'd go back. Well BIG MISTAKE! Chris is no longer there and Mike was at the reception desk. My car is 16 years old, runs great. I drive locally 12 miles during the week - it has 137,000 miles on it from years ago. Mike lectured me on tire rotation telling me "that I should have had these tires rotated twice by now with that kind of mileage!" Does he speak down to all women or just this one? I was not pleased being reprimanded by a perfect stranger and in front of the full waiting room. I should not have been disrespected at all. To make matters worse, Mike later called me over (of course to add more services $$) additional power steering fluid and I quote, "You're front and rear suspension needs to be changed same as it did last time you were here." What is his problem? Does he need to feel big? No one should ever treat a customer with such nasty attitude and disdain. Customer service does not exist with Mike. I will NOT be going back to Mavis. read more

Sitting here for over two hours. My truck has been sitting on the lift for almost half of that time untouched. A simple tire swap and balancing that's going to wind up taking half of my day when I have work to do. Talking with other customers here they've said they've experienced the same. Usually my experiences at auto shops are less than enjoyable. Not so at Wappingers Mavis. I called to ask fine could stop by for an estimate and they took me in. I could see they were busy at work with several cars working away but they got my car right in and took a look at my break pads that had been making a funny noise. Each car seemed to be worked on so efficiently and quickly while I was there waiting and once my pads had been diagnosed as needing to be replaced, Danny, one of the men working, came and explained and took me over to show me exactly what needed to be replaced. My car knowledge is very limited, although I catch on quick, and I usually feel like I could be getting schemed and told things need to be done that don't without my knowing. Danny showed me exactly where everything was and made me feel informed. He gave me what it usually would cost at most places and reduced it by sixty dollars, which is Mavis' discount and offered another service for a reduced price. I didn't feel like I was being talked down to, hit on, or tricked into more services and left feeling knowledgable and secure knowing the team at Mavis was trustworthy and efficient. They got my car done in less than a day and everyone was very polite and extremely professional, an attribute many times forgotten at auto and tire shops. I went in because my pads and rotors needed replacing. They told me not to replace my pads and rotors because they claimed the noise I was hearing supposedly was coming from bald tires and leaking front struts. They did the repairs but to my surprise, same noise as before. I fixed what actually needed fixing at another repair shop, and then found out a week later the struts they put in were defective. Left strut was making so much noise at any turn. They replaced the left strut and now another week later the right strut is making the same noise. I wish I could get my money back and get the job done right by someone else. Stay away, the parts they use are terrible! read more

I overheard another customer being told that he failed a car inspection in about the nicest, most sympathetic way that message could be delivered: the tech, Jose, even offered a few suggestions for what the customer could do to get it up to snuff on his own. For my car (it passed!), he was equally thorough, telling me exactly how worn the tires and brakes were. The guy at the front desk was helpful too, giving me recommendations for which snow tires to go with. read more

I have been going to Mavis since I got my first car in 2011 and have always been a loyal costumer. I recently moved from Lagrange to wappingers and what a huge difference in stores. The man in the front was completely rude and I had to wait almost 4 hours for my work to be done when I was told it would only take 2 hours max. So disappointed and I will not be going back. read more
