Mavis Discount Tire - Tires Near Me - Riverhead, New York

Mike was amazing! He helped me replace my tail light on very short notice and made the whole process quick and easy. He was professional, reliable, super chill, and clearly knew what he was doing. I really appreciated how willing he was to help, and teach me what was wrong at the same time. I highly recommend Mike to anyone looking for honest, quality service. Thank you again! read more

When I called to find out if the tire was in stock the call center answered "Riverhead Mavis" and told me to come right over. I drove there through traffic and a very rude person in the shop told me that he hadn't spoken to me, that it was a call center and that in fact they didn't have the tire. Wasted an hour, rude and unprofessional, never again read more

Joe, whom I guess is the GM is absolutely the most rude person I've ever had to deal with and then for him to try and argue with me when they initially made the mistake and also was extremely rude to the Mazda Service GM as well. I had ordered 2 each Mavis all season tires as a 225/65/16 for my partner's Mazda CX5. I get there this morning, they had ordered a Mavis AST AS 225/55/16 so, then I had to wait for them to get me the correct tires, so I had to come back to get the proper tires. After I was originally told they would take 2 hours to recieve. They call me back 30 min later that they found two appropriate tires in stock, so now I am having to again rush to get there so I am able to take them to the Mazda Riverhead dealership. I get back home get ready for work in Amityville and begin to head there. I get a call from Mazda that they had given me the wrong size to purchase from Mavis. So, as I was already on my way to work, the Mazda service GM called me if I could get them swapped appropriately for what should be a 225/65/17. I told the Mazda GM that unfortunately I was already on my way to work and if there was a way I could ask him to get the tires from Mavis. He politely accepted and stated he would call over to Mavis to see if they could make the swap and I would pay the difference in tires which was $40 in the end. The Joe a-hole decided to be a, well, an a-hole to the GM of Mazda and told him off and told him it was already the third time now they had to make a switch to the tire...first off. The first mistake was made by you (Mavis tires, Riverhead) in the first place!!! Mavis had ordered the wrong size tire either way!!!. So, no need to yell at the Mazda Service GM at all! The second mistake was made by Mazda (technically could even be the initial mistake giving me the wrong size but at least they owned up to the issue and corrected it) Then, on my way back to go to Mazda to pick up the tires and exchange for a second time, a shrapnel comes my way, which I have to dodge and end up having to dodge it, rupture my tire, having to take my own car to the Toyota dealership, etc. If this Joe J*ckas* had just been a helpful human and not an a-hole, this part could have been averted. The Mazda Service GM actually was a great human being and came out to help me put my spare tire onto my vehicle and even made sure I had a vehicle to drive from Mazda for free to get the tires back and forth to Mavis!!! Amazing human. So, back to getting to Mavis, the other Service member helps me and has to make a call to get the tires switched out again to their service desk, and the Joe A-hole decides to make a scene with not only myself and also to his employee, by yelling at me how this is the third time he has had to switch these out. Not my fault broskie!!! I told him to calm down and no need to be rude to the customer. Then he decided to keep going and when I told him, no need to raise your voice at me or even be an asshole, as he decides to say, "oh im being an asshole"? With my response, "Uhm, yes sir you are. You dont need to be a rude A-hole. He then tries to tell me to watch my cussing in front of the lady whom happened to be behind myself. I tell him, I actually caught myself and said a-hole the second time so, he then tries to tell me to apologize to the lady. So, I did actually apologize with a backhanded response towards him, to apologize that he was being an a-hole. He then goes out to see the tires and starts to yell at the young service member gentleman and yell at him that I need the sticker for the tire return and at that point, I tell him then he needs to call the Mazda Service GM and he again becomes rude to tell me that I need to be the one to call him..excuse me? Like, what a great leader you are to your employers and how much of a d*ck you are to your customers. He then has the audacity to ask me where I am from where I respond to him saying that I am from Texas where we tend to have some southern hospitality and not need to be some NY a-hole such as himself. Luckily, the transaction at this point is done! read more

Went in for a tire. Waited 2 hrs to only be told they didn't have the tire in stock. Would have Tuesday. They did plug the tire. Came back Tuesday. Rude woman came up front. Put my info in computer, disapeared for awhile. In the meantime, the only nice kid these came to help me. He looked for the tire. Rude woman came back said there was a clitch in the system so the tire was never ordered. Ok goodbye. Went down the road to another shop. He looked at my tire and told me since the leak was fixed I did not need a new tire. So not only did Mavis give me the run-around, they also tried to sell me a tire I did not need! read more

This is my first review ever as I feel it's necessary for the public to know how awful this place is. I ordered and paid for two flat run tires. I had to wait 2 days for them to come in. The office called me to let me know BOTH tires came in. I brought my car in and only one tire was installed. I'm not a car/tire expert and trusted this place in installing both tires that I paid for. I didn't realize only one tire was installed until my father checked my tires. When I came back to get the other tire installed I was gaslighted, scolded and treated like I did something wrong. I fought to get the tire I paid for installed. Gross! Stay away! read more

Purchased new tires for Ford F150 before taking a long trip. Had an appointment for 9am. Figured it would take maybe 2-3 hours the most and wound up taking the whole day. Took truck home and realized after washing rims that a lug-nut was missing. Called Mavis and they said to bring it right in. So upon bringing it in they had us wait approximately 30 minutes so they could walk across street to purchase a lug-nut. Workers are non sympathetic and not very professional. We witnessed two customers fighting with guy working the front desk. Horrible customer service! Definitely won't be returning. Much better when it was STS Tire. read more

The counter service is awful!!! They lie to the customers and try to sell customers much more than is needed. They give you a quote at 30% more than their second price quote. Why give the first quote when they can do the cheaper price right off the bat. The counter person told me I needed new brakes. After I refused, I got my car and then the mechanics told me there is nothing wrong with the brakes. They are trying to rob you blind. Don't go there. read more

Avoid at all costs. Got four brand new tires. Drove it off the lot and the front right tire deflated within 24hrs. Brought it in and asked them to check it out and they wanted me to wait 3 hrs or so. I told them I couldn't wait and they agreed to look right then. If they had the man power which they obviously did they should have just obliged and checked the tire without any problem. They checked the tire and said its fine. no leaks. less than 24hrs later and the tire is almost fully deflated again. AVOID read more

Ran over glass picking up coffee. I watched as the meter went lower and lower letting me know that my tire needed attention quickly. I was on the way to a really important meeting. First I pulled in to a tire place in Riverhead but they were too busy to help me. Then I pulled in to Mavis and "Smitty" had my tire plugged and ready to go in five minutes. Mavis Tire, Riverhead, NY * I went in for front brakes on my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. $1,600 later, front brakes/rotors, two new hubs/bearings, inspection, new battery, oil change. I'm not sure if I really needed new hubs but Subaru does recommend replacing the hubs/bearings at 100,000 miles and my car is at 112,000 so ok. But, they never changed the battery or the oil, so I had to go back to have them do that. A few weeks later, the rear brakes began making horrible metallic scraping noises. So I went back. $600 plus dollars later they told me I needed new rear brakes/rotors. They also replaced my front driver's side axel/cv joint. Fine. When I went to pick up my car, I heard the same metal scraping noise that originally had brought me there for the rear brakes. So I had to bring it back to re-do the rear brakes no charge. I went to pick up my car, no noise this time. One week later, the rear driver's side wheel began making deep grinding noises. I went back, they said it was the hub, the 3rd since July 24th when they replaced the 1st two hubs along with the front brakes/rotors. I picked up my car and the low grinding noise was gone, but there was a new scraping metal noise when driving straight or to the right, like a Brillo pad going in circles on a pan. I went back. Two days later I went to pick it up, and the same noise was still there, meaning, they either did absolutely nothing, or they are totally incompetent. So, I went back again! This time they took another two days and the same scraping noise was still happening. They took off the wheel, which was scraping with every rotation. Keith, the mechanic said it was "two pins" which he proceeded to grind off with a grinder. We took a test drive but the noise was only lessened not gone nor properly addressed. So, in conclusion, after spending a total of $2,527 since July 24th, I am currently requesting that Mavis Corporate issue a $300 refund for the rear brakes/rotors job so that I can go to Meineke in Southampton, NY to have it properly repaired. Mavis Tire in Riverhead, NY is absolutely not trustworthy. read more

Horrifying customer service from 2 complete slobs behind the counter. My husband and I had a flat on our 40' camper a considerable distance from home. In googling tire places and we're relieved to see mavis 1/4 mile away. At 4:30 we contacted them and asked for the tire size we needed, luckily they had it. I was told 5 TIMES they closed at 4:45 and we mentioned we were close. When we pulled up hobbling into the lot, he informed us he couldn't change it until Monday, I repeated my circumstance and he graciously offered to ONLY sell me a tire. I was given a different cash price than credit card, but I didn't care just grateful to be back on the road. THEN he informed me he would ONLY put my tire on if I REMOVED IT MYSELF! Apparently they DO NOT jack up campers. With minutes left, we scrambled to find a jack, borrowing one from a customer - equally unhappy - but now we can't budge the lugs nuts. I then asked him if I pulled up parallel to the doors could he loosen them, his response was no. NO! We were stuck in the parking lot, his employees kept apologizing for his behavior, one even "snuck" outside to offer a hand when he wasn't looking. He had no problem driving right past us to leave, on his way home PRIOR to 5 pm, while we were stuck in the parking lot. I HATE MAVIS. I will go out of my way to never use mavis, and tell everyone I know. We own 23 trucks and 5 cars, and used to buy our tires from them. NEVER AGAIN! read more

After 2 hours, and seeing a few people who came in after me leave before me, I decided to check on the status of my car. It was a little after 11:00. I was told that I was next! Which meant I would be sitting there for at least ANOTHER 1 1/2 MINIMUM!! I said I had a 9:00 reservation - why make a reservation then?? He said there were some issues with the cars ahead of me and that they were taking longer than expected. I get it. Arranged to get a replacement tire under warranty for a tire I had purchased from them. Called Mavis twice to confirm the tire had arrived and was ready to install. They confirmed and told me to just come down to have it installed. To be safe, I made an appointment via their online scheduler for two days later. I arrive for my appointment only to find they have no idea about the appointment, despite bringing the email confirmation and reminder from them. Nothing in there system. The best part was they had no idea about the tire. I would have to order it again AND make another appointment for a future date. I can understand system problems but don't blame the customers for your technical issues. I have now ordered the tire from TireRack and having it installed elsewhere. Terrible customer service and bad attitude. Very different than the Mavis I used to go to in NJ. I now understand the poor ratings on Yelp. read more

My favorite experience at this Mavis Discount Tire location happened just yesterday! Earlier that day, my usual mechanic had given me new brake pads, rotors, calipers and an axel. He doesn't do alignments, so I decided to take my car to this wonderful Mavis location to finish the job. After taking two hours when they told me it would be done in one (whatever, I figured that would happen), I came to pick it up. The old dude who rang me up really tried telling me after giving me the total that one of his guys test drove my car beforehand & it was "violently shaking every time it decelerates," so I must get a NEW AXEL or else further damage would ensue! The audacity of these idiots. Of all things to try to make up work with, how about trying to do it with something that I didn't just replace within 24 hours? Needless to say, I will not be returning to this shit hole. read more

Quick and friendly service. Techs are honest and don't try to sell you things you don't need. My preferred location to come to

Took our car into Mavis to get our tires replaced then brought it to the dealer for an alignment and some additional work the day after Mavis completed its work. The dealer discovered that one of the tires was cross threaded when Mavis installed the new tire. It cost us $675 to replace the wheel hub. Mavis never took ownership of their mistake and were rude in putting forth a changing story as to why it could not have been them. It could not have been anyone but them. I will never use them again. read more

I had to update my review about Mavis Discount Tire in Riverhead after speaking with Juan, the manager, today. I was reviewing my bill and noticed I was charged for something I didn't want. He was very helpful and took it off my bill. He also apologized again for the terrible experience I had. While I won't travel an hour away for my tires to this location again, they were very helpful and apologetic for the experience I had. My recommendation would be to call and speak with Juan to order tires, get a tire quote, and set up an appointment. It seems that there is a disconnect between the website and the business. Thanks again for you help today, Juan. Much appreciated. Original Post Below: Very unhappy with my experience. I live about an hour away and had been told it would be cheaper to get my tires done in Riverhead. When I made my quote online, the total was $640, so I thought it would be cheaper to go to Riverhead. A week prior, I had made a 9am appointment. I showed up at 8:45am the day of my appointment and was told it would take two hours. I also added on an oil change ($100) - they said it was no problem. Thankfully, my Mom needed to run errands (one of them being Costco, which we went to last because we had refrigerated and frozen items) in Riverhead so she picked me up. I never heard from Mavis but it was 11:45 (3 hours instead of 2) so I figured it must be done. We went back and my car was STILL in the same spot, tires untouched. Juan, the head manager, said something happened and he was very sorry. My car was going to be a priority and the new tires & oil change would be done in 40 minutes. 20 minutes later, he came out to tell me that the tires I had reserved never showed up to the shop so he was going to give me a 'far superior' tires for the same price and a lifetime guarantee incase anything happens to the tires. An hour and fifteen minutes from the time we arrived, my car was finally done. Now - the bill came out to $960 for four new tires & an oil change. He told me when you reserve online and get a tire quote, it doesn't account for tax and labor. As if the story couldn't get any better, my brother went to Southampton Tire this same day and paid the SAME price, he didn't have an appointment, and was in/out of there within an hour. I am very ashamed of this business and I understand things happen but I wish I had listened to the reviews before making the appointment. read more

I had a 3pm appointment but called to see if they could take me sooner. They said "Sure, come on down". I arrived at 2:30pm and was told it would take approximately an hour. I would leave no stars, but you have to leave at least one. Went in for new tire to replace one that had been plugged incorrectly at another place. I had a reservation, which meant nothing. After a 2.5 hour wait, my car was finished. Good thing I checked the tires, because they left on bad tire, removed a perfectly good tire and replaced it with a new tire. Alert the manager, car back in bay, my good tire put back on car. Off I go. $189.00 for new tire, 20.00 for balance, $99.00 for alignment ( you dont need an alignment when you change a tire), $9.99 to reset TPMS ( $9.99 to push a button ?!) Fast forward to going home to Huntington on the LIE in the dark and rain, tire warning light comes on!! Pull off road, check all tire pressure, seem ok, drive home on LIE at 45 mph waiting for a tire to deflate!!!!! I reset the the TPMS this a.m., pressure off in one tire. They add $40 to the warranty(For What?) and $10 to the recycle charge(really). They charge you $90(really) for the wheel alignment but it's usually $50 for other places. I waited 5 hours and it only took one hour when they started fixing my car. Then, they said that they gave me $50 discount but it's a lie because I paid for it. They are scamming you for $90 out of their pocket. I should be paying around $600 for this. read more
