We were trying to get all four tires replaced on my sister's car in preparation of the upcoming winter season in NY, and fortunately for us Mavis had what we were looking for. We were shopping in the area that day and checked with Walmart Auto Center first but they said they were booked until the following week. I called Mavis and was informed that they could take care of us now if we stopped in so we did. Anthony, the service manager was friendly and explained everything that was included with the pricing (road hazard, rotation etc.). This is an auto shop so nothing super fancy, the waiting room can use an upgrade but surprisingly the bathroom was in decent shape. I believe the four tires came to just about $460. I called them on a Saturday afternoon, and they were able to get me in to put a plug in the tire. Anthony, who is one of the managers, took extra special care of me. It's a wet, sloppy snowy Sunday and I head to mavis because it's the only place open to swap out my all seasons for my snow tires. The first thing I tell them: these snow tires are from my old car. They may not fit the new car's rims. Okay, sure, yeah. We'll definitely check first. I see them taking the all seasons off and assume the snow tires will fit. 90 mins pass by when the manager tells me: "yeah. Those tires won't fit." Why are you telling me this now? Why didn't you check before doing anything else? It takes, literally, a minute?! Uh. Oh. Yeah. Uh. Spent my day off in their waiting room waiting for, it turns out, nothing. I needed an inspection and a brake light replaced. Easy one, right? Nope. Went by yesterday and the Mavis looked empty. One car on the rack and a couple of technicians checking their pant pockets for holes. I thought it would be easy. I asked about replacing the brake light, and the manager directed me to a body shop outside of town. Now I am aware that it requires three steps to remove the rear light assembly and exchange the bulb, but they seemed really eager to chase me off. I wasn't sure what I had done personally to get that treatment, but Jiffy Lube was more than happy to accept my business and take my money. The inspection took twenty minutes and I was pretty satisfied. Lesson learned. read more

No point in making an appointment! My boyfriend made an appointment for 11:00 for a simple inspection to be done. They told him an hour long wait and then to come back (he went to Walmart to waste some time) comes back an hour later (12:00) and they tell him about another hour and a half wait?! What's the point in an appointment?! And this isn't the first time this happened to us... I should've never returned. Came here to get rear brake pads, rotors, a caliper and a flush. Got it done for a reasonable price. The guys were super nice and explained everything to me. I noticed something small was up afterward- my cruise control couldn't be set. Not a huge deal, but I use it every day. So, I went back and they got me in right away and fixed the issue (free of charge obvi). Didn't catch the name of the guy who helped me, but he was super nice and helpful. I would stay away from this location. I had work on my truck done here in Aug/Sept 2022. Both front wheel hub assembly, both front brake calipers, brake pads, brake hose on both sides front, upper and lower control arms with grease fittings. The issues are yet to be resolved. 1. After the brakes were done the truck shook violently when they were applied in an emergency situation while driving on the interstate. The brakes would pull to left on one occasion and then to the right on another. Took it back and even the GM said it shouldn't do that. I followed the GMs advise and replaced the calipers and the hoses. After I got the truck back only one brake like was secured. The ABS line and hoses were left hanging and it still shakes. 2. Both upper and lower control arms were replaced on both sides. After they were replaced they did not put in all the grease fittings. When I took it back they couldn't find the fittings. One was put in, one was broken off in the new arm and the other two were missing. After putting them in one fitting is set in such a way that I would have to take the caliper off to grease it. 3. I called to filed a complaint with the corporate number. The initial Regional Manager did not return my call. He passed it back down to the GM to handle. I was sent to another Regional Manager because the other Regional manger was in training. Then I was eventually sent to Regional Director. WhenI spoke with Felicia I informed her that my father was sick and that I would reach back out to her after taking care of my father. I texted her to call me at her convenience on 9 Nov and 10 Nov 2022. Then I called on 11 Nov and 14 Nov 2022. No reply. I called their customer complaint department and left a message where I was assured they would call back today 14 Nov 2022 by 6pm. No calls. read more

I had a horrible experience 9 years ago. I didn't want to go again but I had an emergency. The last time I went they didn't balance the tires at all. I had no choice. I needed to get winter tires put on, specifically asked to make sure they were on facing the correct way, I was told that everything was fine. They finished, I drove home, ended up getting a low air warning. Checked it out had a screw in my tire. Went to my local mechanic to fix it, he ended up finding out that 2 of the tires were on facing the wrong way...never again! If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

This establishment deserves zero stars. My sister and her husband visited Mavis to purchase and have new tires put on. The car was pulled into the shop when the clerk gave them a price they couldn't afford at the time. When leaving Mavis, they drove approximately a quarter of a mile up the street when their hood flew up and damaged the hood and side panels. The immediately returned to Mavis wondering why their hood was even popped to begin with. The employees were very kind, stating they will give them a discount on the tires and take care of getting the hood and side panels fixed. For the next 2 months my sister and myself left countless messages for corporate with no return call. In the meantime my sister lost her husband and my nephews to a tragic accident (unrelated to this vehicle). We finally received a call back requesting 3 estimates from 3 separate shops and submit it to them. My sister was only able to get 2 estimates due to her life being turned upside down. Mavis corporate told her they would get another estimate themselves. She then went through 2 more weeks of no return calls. When they finally called back they gave my sister 2 options. Keep in mind, at this point they are very aware of my sisters loss and her position. Option #1: They searched her car on KBB and would only give her what it's worth, which is $1,000+ less than what it will cost to be fixed. In turn she signs the title of her car over to them. Option #2: They give her a check for what her car is worth and she signs paperwork stating that Mavis is not responsible for the damages or responsible for anything that may happen in the future due to the hood and hood latch being broke. Again, they arr well aware that my sister lost her husband a month prior and is now trying to survive on a single income. Meaning she can not afford to pay for the rest of the hood to be fixed. With no other choice, my sister reluctantly signed the paperwork accepting the check and that if anything happens to her or her children while driving this car, Mavis takes zero responsibility. The paperwork was emailed back to them a week and a half ago. My sister has called 2 times to follow up, and how surprising, no calls back. All we can do now is pray nothing happens to my sister and her babies in the meantime while she tries to save enough money to pay for the rest of the hood. ​ read more

We had a slow leak and took the car in, turns out we had to replace the tire. I was advised this actually meant we had to replace two tires, to even the drive. All was explained very clearly and in a friendly manner, the guys worked quickly even though they were short staffed and we're happy with the results. Definitely recommend Mavis! read more

I got new tires from Mavis in Catskill last year and had a very positive experience with them overall. just made an online appointment to have those tires rotated and realized they also do oils changes, new wipers, brakes-basically anything your basic mechanic's shop would do. I thought that they only did tires so this was a nice (and convenient) surprise. Jeffery was awesome. He was super clear about the pricing and informed me of sales (Oh yeah, I do need new wipers!) We had a nice chat about careers and fishing and my total wait time was less than one hour. The waiting area so ok. they have about 7 chairs, a TV (that you can change the channel on-nice) and a small area for little kids to play. My only suggestion is to keep the bathroom door clean- it was covered in dirt/oil and kind of gross to look at. read more

I know Mavis doesn't usually get a good rap when it comes to their service. I'm here to say that they were great when I needed them. I've been recently working at a film studio in Catskill when I discovered that I had a screw in my 3-month-old tire. It was one of those situations where you just go near the tire and hear the HISSSSSSSS coming out. I'm familiar with the immediate area and I knew that Mavis could help. I took my car there, asked the associate if he could patch my tire. He took my car in right away, and I sit in the lobby. Even though they were insanely busy, my tire was fixed and I was out of the door, headed back to the studio, in less than 40 minutes. I only spent $28!!! Took my crew truck here because it uses Enterprise fleet, otherwise i would never come close to this place. Dropped truck off needing oil change, air filter, cabin filter, alignment, and a flat "mavis mountaineer" tire changed. Needed the big service before driving to michigan. Anyhow I picked up my truck and noticed that none of the dashboard service reminders were reset, no big deal, but come on it takes 3 minutes to put in a little effort and complete your job, also none of the air pressures matched and wasnt re calibrated to match the tires, this is a "tire specialist shop" why not just get it done right? so i drive 3 hours or so towards michigan and not only is the truck still pulling to the left but the plug fails on the tire that they "repaired". Im pretty furious at this point changing the tire on the side of the highway for a second time in 2 weeks, and call and talk to the manager and explain my frustration and he would "make it right and take care of me next time" . well i dropped my truck off again, another hour out of my day and tell them i believe and alignment wasnt done and i need the tire repaired and can you just reset all the reminders, Kevin looked stressed and they looked behind, and doesnt seem like he wants to deal with me. Whatever kevin heres the keys. Please make it right Drove away tonight and still none of the reminders were reset, tires not calibrated, and i have zero confidence my oil or filters were actually replaced. The service I received was great, my car was making loud noise when I took it in to be serviced. My vehicle was checked and it turned out to be the catalytic converter that needed to be replaced. It was replaced within a couple of hours as communicated. This review is written with genuine honesty of my experience at Mavis Discount Tire. I am deeply disappointed how a business operates this way to extort money out of innocent customers. Today, I went for a NYS car inspection, and an oil change. I spent 2 hours while waiting for my car to be completed, and upon my return I was told to come into the inspection room to see how my tires were not going to pass the inspection, along with my brakes. To note, my 2013 fully-loaded car was recently sent to the manufacturer for a whole different issue, and there was no mention of this. I decided not to order 4 brand new tires, as I had this gut feeling that they were just trying to sell me tires to make money off of me. I mean it's all in their name, right? "Mavis Discount Tire." I sit down and I said, hmm let me check on Yelp. Upon my discovery I see one star reviews of people that come into this place with issues they never knew existed. I was charged for my inspection at $21, but that's not the point. (it gets better... keep reading). The human decency of calling me earlier would have been nice instead of dismantling my whole car and then having me wait 2 hours, to tell me that it would fail, so that you can up-sell me on brand new tires. I move on, pay for my oil change and now I'm stuck with this failed paper being sent to DMV. I decide to go to another certified inspection center and my vehicle passes!! They did mention the tires, but they were not poorly rated enough to fail. He shows me a score comparison to what would have made it fail, and this made me even more angry at Mavis Discount Tire. Next came the "word of mouth" about Mavis Discount Tires after I showed him my failing paper. It was noted by the owner of this different establishment that this is what they do! Especially to undermine people's intelligence, for they know a white collar person has no clue about tires or mechanics! In summary, I'm disgusted of how businesses continue to operate this way, and treat their customers. I was told by the man working at Mavis "I should have checked the Yelp reviews before then...." Well, that's my mistake, I should have! This lucrative tire business may have worked in the 90s, but it is great we have yelp to put businesses like this on blast. To the good people out there, please beware. These are people trying to make a living the wrong way, by taking advantage of customers. This review is for people reading this so that they don't fall into this same trap. I'm not saying not to go here, but please put your guard up. had an appointment for 1 pm they took my truck into the bay at 3 pm were it sat with no one working on it for 35 min. I went out to the counter to see why no one was working on it and my answer from the head mechanic or gm was it's a truck a very wise guy answer. I finally got my truck back a little after 5. unbelievable I was not the only one there was a lady there from 10:30 to 2. the manager or head mechanic walking around laughing and talking to all the mechanics that were barely working at all moving very slow. I had a flat tire happen to me late yesterday afternoon -- a Saturday -- in Chatham N.Y., which is 300 miles from my home, and I have to drive home this evening to go to work tomorrow. Since my car only has a donut-style spare, that meant I had to get my tire fixed or replaced today, which is Sunday. The closest places I could find that would be open on a Sunday were in Catskill, 40 minutes away. At 8:30 this morning I left my hotel to go to the Walmart Supercenter, the first place I found. After being treated unbelievably rudely there-- they told me it would take an hour to an hour and a half, even though there was no business going on at 9 in the morning on a Sunday -- and I wasn't at all discourteous to them in any way --. I went across the street to Mavis. The manager who greeted me was totally friendly and pleasant, and in 15 minutes I was done. They also could have fooled me into thinking my tire was ruined and needed to be replaced, but they didn't. And on top of all of that, they charged me $16.19, while WalMart would have charged me $25. I don't know about those other reviews for Mavis. Judging by how I was treated at WalMart, the manager at WalMart may have made them happen. Mavis is a great place to go if you want to have your car worst than when you brought it to them. They are very unprofessional there and don't care about the quality of their work. I went to Mavis because I had a screw in my back tire. I decided to swap it out with 2 new snow tires to get me through the winter. The guy behind the counter seemed really friendly and told us he was trying to get promoted. Me and my fiancé have worked in the service industry and totally understand these kind of things. He sold us the most expensive tires they had with the extended warranty and the whole bit. Which both of us support people wanting to succeed so we kindly accepted. My fiancé paid and we went on our way. Now this is stupid on our part for not checking if they actually replaced the tire but we had filled it with air prior to going there. And it looked pretty good when we left there without actually checking if they replaced the bad tire. Well on my way to work, I happened to get a flat tire on the mountain road near Haines Falls. Now I'm stuck in my dress clothes, with 20 degree weather, no cell service, trying to change a tire. Of course between the salt and mud getting on my clothes, I managed to put a spare on my car. Now I had to turn around and change my clothes again because I am filthy. This whole ordeal cost me about 2 hours worth of work. So my fiancé called Mavis and explained the situation to them and their response was well the guy behind the counter had it on the receipt to get it replaced. So one of the techs must have screwed up so we can't do anything for you. When we called corporate, they told us we could buy another set of tires and they would mount them for us without charging us labor. So we paid for them to replace the tire and they didn't. And the only way to fix it would be if we spend more money there. Then they gave us an appointment to get it taken care of and we both left work early to go there. We get there and the manager, Mike, told us he can't help us. He offered us the buy 3 and get the 4th tire for free deal that they were offering.
