My family have been going to Pete's for over 20 years, could not see ourselves going anywhere else!

Different kind of review here. My car broke down as I was approaching Hunter for a Saturday of skiing during MLK weekend. Ended up spending a few hours here awaiting my diagnosis and tow back home with staff, Including the owners, that couldn't be any more accommodating. The diagnosis came fast, they were super courteous, and allowed me to hang around well beyond the shop closing for the day. On a busy morning he took time out to put my wife's car up on the lift and give it a thorough once over before she drove to the city as she was worrried about a noise she heard in the front end. Given my situation and experience, Pete is a liar and a cheat. We had agreed on a price for the necessary service; when the vehicle was towed in for that work at the agreed-upon price, he then told me he doesn't remember the conversation (from 24 hours before) and the price would be "y", not the "x" that was already discussed and agreed to. Then I wanted to pay with a check and was told he didn't know me and he wouldn't take my check. This after 21+ years on the Mountaintop. Banks weren't open yet, ATM withdrawal restrictions would not have allowed me to withdraw what I needed. He knew he had me right where he wanted me so I had no choice but to use a credit card and pay his 3% upcharge! What an evil and diabolical way to increase your bill: lie about what was agreed to and then squeeze another 3% out of your mark by not taking a local check from a 21+ year resident. I'll consider going back to these charlatans when I spot pigs flying. read more

Great shop. Gave me a quick diagnosis when a check engine light came on for my Jeep Wrangler. When that same Jeep Wrangler got stuck in the snow (one time fluke), they came straight after their lunch and pulled her out. They also plowed my parents driveway in a timely manner too. You need a thick skin when speaking to the staff since they're blunt; if you're military/leo you'll know what I mean and will be fine. read more

I came in with a bunch of work (only needed a simple estimate) that my car needed with my children. Mind you I'm bringing a lot of business to this gentleman. Pete proceeded to tell me that I should have kept my legs closed and proceeded to mock me for having children and made us wait outside in the rain to get my car returned as I told him I'm done I'm not returning back to the shop. If you are a family I would NOT recommend the shop. The owner is extremely rude disrespectful selfish and has his own personal issues. He should not be throwing his personal problems issues etc into any customers lives!!! I have never been treated with such disrespect. The entire time I was there I did nothing but respect him and praise him for the look of the shop. This man is sexist and honestly should not be in business as far as I'm concerned! He clearly cannot handle simple relations with ANY women with children! read more

By far the best people I met going up state.. got a tired changed the day after thanksgiving as my family was on vacation. Pete the owner and his wife run the shop. They are real down to earth people with real emotions so if you are fragile they may break you... sitting in the shop while they fixed my flat I found out pete was from the Bronx and moved there in the mid 80,'a and been a local hero since..they are fair and will give you the best they have or they will tell you to go someplace else. I will suggest that when you do a job it should be done right the first time. If it has to be done over correctly a second time do not charge the customer for your erroros. And by all means do not do patch jobs and charge for actual repair. Make sure that when there is a problem do not laugh it off as if it is nothing. i wouldnt gove them any stars i went there because my friend donna recommended them, the guy took 5 minutes and told me one of my cylinders was bad and that he would not take the time to repair it, i took it to dodge dealer in saugerties the car was fixed in a day and running great, i would never go back to them, i guess the giy figured hed rather make more money on the little jobs than keep a mechanic busy on one job read more

Had brought my car in for repair. They took a look, saw the issue with the breaks, and we planned on having the car worked on later in the week. Well, when I arrived first thing in the morning, as planned, the part that needed to be replaced was not there. Maybe they forgot? idk. I intended to take a half day off work but had to take the whole day, ended up waiting there for over 5 hours for what should have been a 1 hour fix. I'm a local, I live 5 minutes away...no offer to bring me home while they sorted out the mess. Also I bought tires from here and was supposed to get an $120 rebate. Rebate never came, even though i sent in all the proper paperwork. Then I called in for a flat tire. I was treated poorly for "calling on such short notice." Dude, the NEW tires YOU suggested I get, one of them is flat after a month. maybe make some time and you'd get repeat customers. This place probably stays in business because there are very limited options in the area. Unfortunately I need to take my car elsewhere for service now. read more

I was on my way to Hunter Mountain when my car started to shake, rumble and slow down. I barely got up the mountain. I came in an hour before closing and the team went to see me right away. They found the problem quickly, but they even offered to drive me to the mountain if the problem was more severe. Pete is great and so are the guys that work there. read more

Pete's garage was open on President's day and he ordered a tire for me that morning and fixed it fast after it came in so we were able to get home Monday. Pete's Auto was our saving grace from a day of skiing. We smelled burning rubber from our car and realized our belt was loose. We called AAA and they came within 20 minutes. He diagnosed the problem and ordered the part right away before towing our car back to the shop. There was a mild delay with the part being delivered, but it all worked out at the end. I don't enjoy spending money on car repairs, but going to Pete's is a pleasure knowing the work will be done properly and the charges will be reasonable.
