Tire pressure sensor indicator lit for both left front and rear tires. I called Mavis in Califon NJ and made an appt for same day to checkout the situation. The car was brought in within 10-15 minutes, all tires were removed tested and re-installed rotated in under an hour. Gave me a price in the beginning, after the service gave me another price. Don't recommend.

After getting a flat near Califon, NJ, and replacing it with the spare, I decided I didn't want to drive back to the city on a doughnut, so I called Mavis. The agent told me they could get a replacement tire out their Califon store in three hours, so I decided to wait. I got there, checked in, they put my car on a lift and after an hour of waiting (so a total of four hours now), the manager (his name is Ken) told me they don't have the tire. Clearly this is frustrating, and anyone in my position would be upset at the situation, but I remained calm and didn't raise my voice. I asked Ken what my options were and he said to come back tomorrow. I asked if they could source the tire if I was willing to wait and he just laughed at me. I asked again what my options were and Ken actually started yelling at me, saying he already told me to come back tomorrow. Mind you, I had yet to receive an apology for their mess up, and now I couldn't believe this guy was yelling at me, the wronged customer. I told him my voice wasn't raised, and I asked why he was yelling at me, and he doubled down and yelled even more. Finally, my blood began to boil and I raised my voice, at which point one of his partners started yelling at me to calm down. And by the way, still no apology. Instead there were excuses - Ken blamed the tire distribution company, he blamed Mavis HQ and even blamed me, but refused to take any responsibility and just yelled. I finally swore at them as I drove off, to which the partner physically threatened me. Unbelievably bad customer service and Mavis should be ashamed of itself. I generally don't write a review indicating dissatisfaction with a business but after reading a few others I decided to illuminate my frustrations with Mavis. In 2018, Mavis Discount Tire in Califon (shortly after changing from STS) did an oil change on my 2006 Toyota Camry. Ten days later, the motor seized up on the way home from work. We had the car towed from Oldwick back to Califon. Upon inspection (by the manager who came to my home) the oil pan was DRY. There were no wet spots below the car, the chassis underneath was dry with no sign of leakage. The car had never burned oil. It was determined (by conjecture) that the tech forgot to add oil after draining. Yes, a car can still run for a short period with the remnants still in the block. Unfortunately, the oil indicator light did light, but having just changed the oil(?) we felt we could go a day or two before bringing it back to STS. Even though the manager was sympathetic, Mavis told us "nothing we can do." The car was towed away shortly, leaving us to buy a new car. Here's why I'm writing after several years. We recently took another chance with Mavis because they're close to home. Reluctantly, we brought our 2009 Accord to Mavis for a quick oil change. Mind you, this car doesn't and hasn't to date, burned oil. So, almost a month later and only several hundred miles, the oil light came on. We didn't want to repeat a seized motor again so immediately checked the oil. It was black and barely touching the dip-stick. New Synthetic Oil black and almost empty after a few hundred miles? It took 2-1/2 quarts to bring it up to mark. Not saying anything else.., I'll let you decide. read more

Friendly competent service. Have gone there a few times and they have always been able to take care of the problem.

They are reliable and won't screw you (which automatically makes them great for a garage, right?). They will drill out bolts for you if you break them yourself, which is really convenient. Their rates are reasonable for the area. I've been able to show up within an hour of closing and they've been able to drill out a bolt for me. The only aspect I don't like, is that they'll advertise a tire change for a low price, but this only includes mounting of a tire. But then they will then charge you for balancing, as any tire that is mounted should be balanced... but that's not in their posted price. read more

They were friendly and prompt with the service. I brought the car in for an oil change and to top the fluids off. I was disappointed to find that they grossly overfilled the tires, 38lbs instead of 33lbs. They also over filled the oil when checked on the dip stick and did not top off any fluids. I know this as I double checked their work afterwords and I had to add about half a gallon of wiper fluid. They seem competent enough but this was an error that shouldn't have happened. read more

I dropped my car off in mid-June to get two tires replaced after learning that they were dangerously bald. Upon pick-up I paid my $500 but naively forgot to check out my new tires. Flash forward two weeks of driving everywhere happily thinking I was on new tires, I had a blow out on 31. When the Triple A man came to help me and I expressed surprise that one of my brand-new tires had busted, he told me that all of my tires were old. It turned out that my tires had never been replaced at all. I paid Mavis $500 and they had not done any work at all on my car, somehow, and didn't even know it until I brought my car back 2 weeks later. Of course, they had several excuses of why this happened but I would like to warn my community members to BEWARE, and if possible check that your work has been done when getting car service at Califon Mavis!! read more

He explained everything so I could understand what needed to be done and why and was very patient with me. I don't know a lot about cars but he took the time to make sure I understood. I'm not sure how these guys are able to be in business. Took my car for a simple oil change. They put in the wrong oil and when we questioned them they told us it's fine, next time we'll make sure we put in the correct oil. A day later I started getting an error on my car about the oil pressure. Took the car back was greeted with an attitude and they supposedly changed the oil again. Error did not go away. Took the car back again, still not fixed. Took the car to another local establishment who said we should never have them work in the car again. They over filled the oil which cost me $200 and they said the oil was FILTYHY and needed to be changed again...for a 3rd time in a matter of weeks. Never again. I grew up in Califon and my parents brought their cars to STS in Clinton until this new location opened which is far more convenient. Now that I'm older and have gone through a few cars, and auto repair companies, I've come to the conclusion that there is no better place to go than STS. Its good to go in and see friendly faces that I remember from Voorhees high school. These folks are reliable, honest and friendly and I wouldn't bring my car anywhere else. read more

I've been going to this service center for a number of years, well before the recent company change, since the place opened. Good guys, honest and trustworthy.
