If you have an older BMW, apparently don't bother…read more I brought my 2001 BMW 330i to Mounts because I was looking for a nearby shop to handle work I didn't want to do myself, particularly safety-critical suspension work. I initially trusted the shop because a close friend and other locals had spoken well of it, and Chase was presented as their BMW specialist. Mounts was on my list purely because of proximity. I already had mechanics I trusted and would gladly have paid out of pocket to tow the car to one of them had I known how this experience would go. I had approximately $5,000 available through Affirm and was genuinely prepared to spend it to save myself the time and have the work handled professionally. I had damaged front brake caliper carrier bolts that needed extraction. I offered Chase the job and told him I'd also pay to have a complete front Lemförder suspension kit installed if he could get the bolts out. He never inspected the car, put it on a lift, or even asked to see the bolts. He immediately dismissed the work, said the repairs would cost more than the car was worth, and told me: "I only want work on newer stuff that's quick in and quick out. I don't want to work on 20 years of rust." He's entitled to decline work. What he's not entitled to is talking down to a potential customer and making assumptions about a vehicle and repair costs without even looking at it. Communication was another issue. Three separate people, including myself, independently contacted the shop about work. Each was told Chase was busy and would call back. None of us received a callback. When we followed up, the receptionist seemed surprised that he hadn't called. Eventually, I went to the shop in person to get an answer. What makes this especially disappointing is that I had previously referred a close friend to Chase for substantial BMW work, bringing approximately $5,000 in business to Mounts. Chase had serviced that friend's car exclusively before I became involved in its maintenance. I eventually taught my friend how to perform routine maintenance following BMW's ISTA procedures. Chase had quoted approximately $80 for an oil change, which we did ourselves for around $30. He had also quoted approximately $800 for plugs and coils, which we completed for less than half that amount. I understand BMW parts aren't cheap, but the difference was significant. More concerning, during my own inspections I found substantial timing-chain movement, a failed tensioner, and plastic debris from the tensioner in the oil pan and pickup. This was a potentially catastrophic issue on a vehicle Chase had previously serviced exclusively. I'm not a formally trained BMW technician, so finding something this serious that had apparently gone undiagnosed was particularly concerning. I cannot say what Chase knew or when he knew it, but it seriously undermined my confidence in his work. For comparison, Superior Automotive inspected my car, quoted $56 plus tax to extract the damaged carrier bolts, and completed the job. They later installed my complete front Lemförder suspension kit and performed an alignment for approximately $1,600. My car now drives better than it has in years. That's the kind of professional service I was looking for. Carlson's Auto Body has also provided me with a solid quote for other work. My issue isn't that Chase declined a repair. It's the dismissive attitude, lack of communication, and the concerns I've developed about the quality and value of the work being performed. The receptionist was pleasant, and my complaint is specifically about Chase. I was prepared to spend thousands at Mounts and had already referred thousands in business there. Chase's conduct cost the shop the opportunity for substantially more work and a potentially long-term customer. I won't be returning, and I won't be recommending Mounts to other BMW owners. If I owned this business, I'd want to know why my BMW specialist was turning away customers this way and why people who had trusted him were walking away questioning the service they'd received. I hope ownership looks into this and has a conversation with Chase.
