Our server could not have been more pleasant. Orders were accurate and she checked back. Food was average to good, maybe a bit overpriced. The place opened in 1949 and I doubt it has ever been remodeled. It's very dark. The flooring must be from 1949. I think it was carpet but it's so worn down, it's hard to be sure. Whatever it was, it is sticky and kind of dirty looking. This could be a nicer place with a little redo and TLC. read more

NO GOOD FOR STEAKS!! I have had 3 different steaks from here and they are terrible....Ribeye the first time and it was fatty as hell!!!.....N.Y. Strip the second time and had no flavor or seasoning and tasted like they threw it in a skillet and cooked one side and flipped it over and cooked the other side and threw it on a plate!!.....Tonight was the third time and i got a Filet and thought you cannot screw up a Filet but boy was i wrong.The smallest steak i had ever seen and i was not sure if it was even a Filet.Overcooked & no flavor and about the size a chips ahoy chocolate chip cookie and maybe a quarter inch thick....Terrible & Pathetic!! read more

Very nice restaurant that will take you back in time. Hostess asked us "Do you have reservations ?" Understandable it was very busy which is a good sign- especially for Monday afternoon. We were seated in under 10 minutes. Owner, hostess,and our waiter treated us like royalty (rare thing these days). We had the prime rib cooked just as ordered - was delicious ! Sides we had were steamed broccoli and salads with their house celery dressing -- was honestly surprised that dressing was so good. (Not from grocery store) Topped the meal off with a tiramisu dessert (very good) and coffee. Bar has a nice selection of beers, wine, and mixed drinks. My Wife had a Watermelon Margarita - also very good. I had draft beer which tasted fresh not flat. Pricing for food and drinks exceptional low for higher quality. Maybe the most underwhelming dining experience I've had in a long time. Plenty of hype surrounding the place plus it's been open for 70 years, but the service was BAD and the food wasn't even on par with Outback. The place itself is cute and a nice time warp. We were sat immediately and our server came by right away but that was where the train stopped. Every table around us was getting what appeared to be regular, consistent service so maybe not every server is mediocre there? There were like 6-7 tables for 3 servers, so it definitely didn't appear slammed. The manager folded napkins for 30 minutes, again didn't appear busy. Anyway, our server took our order eventually and brought the salad (shredded lettuce and dressing) out after 20+ min and then out food within a minute of that. Tells me the salads sat there for a while. Salad was simple, decent and took the edge off our hunger pains. The steak (Strip, 12 ounce) was the worst steakhouse meat I've ever had. The after taste was of like old or cheap oil? It definitely isn't dry aged and was chewy. The streamed broccoli side was fine, hard to mess up but it had some of the lingering weird oil taste too. Kind of reminds me of when a place doesn't change its fryer oil often enough and wings/fries have a funky taste. My husband had the prime rib which he ate about half before saying it tasted like IGA freezer meat. The poor quality was beyond surprising. We would have spoken up if our server had checked on us. We got the remaining halves of our steaks boxed up and might try to salvage later. The prices are great but you pay for what you get. They could take a page out of Jeff Ruby's book on customer experience and service. One star for good prices? read more

This restaurant is a blast from the past. I came here on a date because I'm into kitsch stuff and wanted to do something different. The walls are wood paneled which I love and the booths are really comfortable. There are also no windows, that I could tell, and the ceilings are low which give it a real loungey 70's vibe. All its missing is the ambient smoke. When we first walked in the guy who sat us was on the ball, friendly and attentive but someone had left some dirty dishes on a booth seat near the front and it really grossed me out. It's weird in Cincinnati, dinner service ends really early at a lot of places (9pm, say whaaaa) and I'm assuming they just weren't expecting anymore people to come in. I really like that they give you pickles and popovers before your entree's come. Everyone that worked there and talked to us seemed genuinely friendly and our server laughed a lot at our jokes. Possibly because we made him uncomfortable but it didn't bother me. My date said his pasta was mediocre. I really enjoyed my "bobcat" which was actually Filet Minon. My wine tasted like Kool-Aid but I didn't want to say anything because our server seemed too nice. It's funny though Rose is really poppin' as a trend and they still call it White Zin. For my main, I had the BBQ Chicken, which was tender and savory to the last bite. I chose the potato pancakes as a side. Three huge crispy pancakes arrived, perfectly German style. I probably would have been good with just one, since it was a side dish, but hey, I had a few to box up and take home. As mentioned above, Maury's serves up unlimited dill pickles. They're the huge, cucumber-like slices and arrive in a small cup. Just ask the server for more; this is one of the special delights of the West Side. With low ceilings and winding nooks of the rooms explain the "tiny cove" part of the name. It's quaint, it's unique, and it adds to the charm of this restaurant. Let me first by saying that I am a new addition to the west side, so my girlfriend and I have been trying all of the restaurants that we can. Seeing as neither of us grew up on this side of town we have our work cut out for us. I actually stumbled across this little hidden gem thanks to Yelp, thanks Yelpers! It was very convenient that my girlfriend and I were also looking for a place to celebrate a very good career opportunity for that I've recently come upon. So back to MTC (Maury's Tiny Cove), we love how cozy this place is. It's almost like a bed and breakfast but no beds and they serve good steak. The service was phenomenal, it is (was) a Wednesday night and both the owner and manager took the time to stop by and ask us how our night is going. Our waitress was absolutely amazing, she even offered to give us a tour after our meal and gave us a brief history lesson on this fascinating place. The food was great! You definitely get your money's worth, I had the 12 ounce ribeye with a side of garlic mushrooms and a Cesar salad and my girlfriend had the chicken Parmesan (which I was almost jealous of). Neither of us had any complaints, we both go way more food than we anticipated and my steak was cooked exactly the way I wanted. The beer selection was solid, all of the normal macro breweries and a solid choice of micro. I was even surprised with some of the breweries that were represented (8ball and revolution, in particular). All in all, we really enjoyed our time here. We plan to attempt and visit often. Maury, where have you been all my life? This place oozes old school charm. From the shiny leather seats, the low ceiling on the first floor, and a bathroom with freezer doors, I can't wait to come back and "experience" more of this labyrinthine restaurant. Our large group (13 yelpers strong) ate in the second floor area by the bar. We didn't have reservations, but fortunately we were able to move the tables around and create one large table. Stacy, our server, was awesome and took care of everyone's orders and kept the drinks full. From the complimentary pickles and " light as a feather puffy" bread to the extensive menu, you will definitely find something to fill your belly. I had the BBQ Chicken ($14.95). Two pieces of juicy chicken with a decent flavored sauce. I also had a pear salad that was great. My side was a yummy baked sweet potato. The French Onion Soup is a must order. Several other reviews have described Maury's as "dated". It is, but kind of charming. Went with a group of 8 a few weeks ago to celebrate a birthday and had a decent experience. Since our group was large my wife called for reservations. It took several attempts to confirm they could accommodated us. At the time I thought maybe they were just having a bad day. Fast forward to Friday 2/25. I checked their website to make a reservation. There is no ability to do that. So I called at 11:30 am to get reservations for Saturday 2/26. No answer. But you are instructed to leave a message and get a call back. By 4:00 I hadn't received a call so I called again. I explained to the woman who answered that I had called earlier. She told me the manager had taken my name and would call. She said it might be as late as 9:30 she nice he was busy. I asked if she could tell me anything. No. I had to wait for the managers call. Long story short. I never got a call. So on Saturday morning we are booking elsewhere. Until Maury's can get up to speed on something simple like taking reservations I don't think I'll be back. Not only is the atmosphere dated, but apparently the underlying support systems as well. Stuck in the 70's. read more

Maury's is a true west side gem. It's small, dark and old, but boy do they have good grub! There's nothing fancy about it, just good old fashion food done right. This was my first visit (tragedy, considering I grew up on the west side of town) and I was so happy with my experience. I had the French onion soup to start. A classic done to perfection. Great flavor and the right soup to bread to cheese ratio the mozzarella sticks are also a great starter. The marinara sauce is the star of that show. It's thick and a little sweet. I couldn't get enough. My main course was the small filet mignon. They have a 5 and 8oz option. It was cooked just right, juicy and melted in my mouth. It came with a salad and side. The mixed vegetables were a great accompaniment to the steak. Last but not least, the dessert. They have rotating desserts and they bring out a tray to show you your options, which I think is so fun. I got the fried doughnut bites. They were so damn good! Fried to perfection, crisp on the outside, dense and moist on the inside... rolled in sugar and served with chocolate dipping sauce. I was in heaven. I can't wait to go back to try all the yummy options they have. This is definitely going to be one of my new go-tos! read more

This is the type of place Sinatra might have held court when he came to the Queen City -- the vintage decor, red vinyl booths, and low ceilings all lend a sort of smoky ambiance -- but fortunately there's no smoking anymore. Meat is the centerpiece at Maury's and the prime rib did not disappoint. Cooked perfectly and served with horse radish and crispy steak fries. My wife had the special, which was fish and chips, and it was also excellent. Service was fast and friendly, not overbearing, and everything came out of the kitchen and the bar like we were the only ones in the joint (we weren't). Drinks and food are reasonably priced - with drinks and two entrees it was under $50. Maybe it's because it was a Tuesday night, maybe it's because I went in with few expectations, or maybe it's that or maybe it's because they give you a plate of dill pickles before you even order, but whatever the reason, Maury's Tiny Cove is calling me like a Siren to join the regulars sitting at the bar. read more

Turned out to be a block an a half from our favorite comic book store (Up, Up and Away... gee, another review I need to write). Enter the Tiny Cove and you will experience one of the more amazing transformations between exterior and interior in the city. Maury's low ceilings and nook-and-cranny layout give this place a real sense of seclusion from the outside world. The tables and decor are straight out of yesteryear and the whole place smells like creamy buttered lobster (in a good way). I felt like I was in the galley of a pirate ship the whole night: check out the booty behind the bar-- --The bull: You might notice that the bar is adorned head to toe with bulls. I spoke to the owner and learned that Maury was a Taurus. Knowing this fact, over the years patrons started to bring bull art, statues, you name it as gifts to Maury. He would place them behind the bar and more people would follow suit. Maury's now sports bulls from multiple continents in a plethora of media. Additionally, I'm told the bar upstairs has some pretty nonstandard celebratory week nights. Including a night when you can get your nails did, and a comic book trivia night! Well, I wanted to like this place. First time here, but I am a long time Cincinnatian. 1st server gave 2 people of 8 water and said they were out of glasses. No water ever came to the table nor did a server for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, I went to the bar and asked the women who was handling bills if someone could take our order. She did get a second server to take our order. Some alcoholic drinks made it to the table while others did not. Salads came after we were there over an hour, and they all had shredded lettuce blue cheese on them but only the Cincy Eastsider ordered blue cheese. Did get an appetizer and the mozzerella chese sticks were cold. The main course came out at various times from several different servers. My baked potato was uncut with butter and sour cream on the side. At least at Wendy's they cut the potato. My husband's food was very burnt and not really edible. We were offered desserts but they were something like a blue muffin and a brownie with a chocolate bar in the middle. My kids could make better desserts, so we passed on them. It took a half hour after dinner to get our bill, and I believe we only got it because I found a server in the open closet because the other ones were MIA. He received our bill, but it took another half hour for them to retrieve our payments. Needless to say, I will stay on the Eastside of Cincy for meals from now on. read more

French onion soup was bland until the bottom. Steak and fish were cooked correctly. The fish was just a slab of unseasoned fried fish on two pieces of rye. No toasted bread or sauce. Grew up on the west side but never tried this place. Went last night prior to a show at the Drama Workshop and felt like I was in a movie form the 50's. Loved the atmosphere. Didn't get to try the steak as we were limited on time and was pleased to see the menu had a wide range of selections - from sandwiches tp steak dinners. Had the BEST Reuben! Service was great and the pickles served prior to dinner were great alternative to rolls or bread. We will definitely be heading back there! read more

This was the place my husband and I had our first date. It WAS amazing back 5 years ago. We have returned multiple times, as their food was phenomenal, the vibe was great, and the service was superb. Our last visit about 2 months ago was lackluster - the food did not seem great, but service was good. We thought it was just an off night for them. So we took our daughter and her husband there tonight. The waitress was obviously on drugs ( could not remember any of our orders, was sniffing constantly, failed to come back to our table after mumbling to herself), proceeded to dump a whole pitcher of ice water on my husband, forgot two of the 4 salads, then said she was going to get our food. After about ten minutes of her not coming back, my husband went to ask and the bartender started mouthing off that this was not a fast-food restaurant. She (the bartender) proceeded to serve the table across from us, slurring her words as if intoxicated (or maybe whatever our waitress was taking). I could not believe the treatment, but we continued our meal. My son-in-law, after eating his salad and broccoli got ill and went to the bathroom to vomit. My stepdaughter got sick about 10 minutes later. We paid our check and left almost all our food on the table. We then went home, where I proceeded to get sick. I cannot believe this is the same place that my husband and I found. It was a hidden jewel, but now I would caution people to run. Very sad. read more
