Old School candy with lots of salt water taffy varieties. There's every kind of variation on the old classics such as chocolates and fudge. Depending on what you're buying, the quality can be quite inconsistent. Some of the candy in the jars has probably been sitting for quite a while. But it's good to see a traditional candy store in the heart of downtown Maumee to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. read more

The elder lady w/ glasses behind the counter was disgustingly RUDE, unpleasant, and a bad representation of the town! The chocolates are...ehh mediocre! I couldn't imagine having such a nasty attitude towards customers in exchange for their business. Oh my god this is amazing. So MUCH CANDY!!! In Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy you can find a lot of candies and treats you wouldn't really find in normal retail stores, not to mention their ENORMOUS retro soda collection! I picked up 2 today to try them out, one being cream soda and the other cherry. They also have a wide selection of ice cream, which is delicious. Definitely recommend the mint chip. This place is conveniently located in uptown Maumee. Parking is ok- there is some street parking but it is best if you park in the common shared parking lot behind the store. For starters, this place is pretty decent in size. The area is extremely safe, well kept, maintained and lighted for security. This place is by far the cleanest place I have ever been in! Almost a clinical kind of clean. The store offers a wide variety of candy and sodas- from retro candy to more modern day things like jelly bellys. They even have an ice cream counter! If you are ever in the area and looking to treat your sweet tooth, I highly recommend stopping here! read more

This is a quaint little candy store located in quaint little downtown Maumee. Now, I'm not really into chocolate, but if you are, they have a pretty decent selection of chocolates, some hand-made in house, and some not. OK. Exciting to me, is that a very nice selection of "Olde Tyme" candy can be found here. Of course, they also have abundant supplies of new-style-made-in-China-candy/toy shit...uh...stuff, that today's kids seem partial to. As I prefer my candy in liquid form, MOST exciting to me, is MVC&C's huge selection of unique pop, (also known as "soda" to some of you coastal troglodytes). Some of their pop/soda is light hearted and probably meant to be consumed only as a novelty (ranch dressing soda?), but some is truly legit and absolutely delicious (Italian cherry soda, by the makers of Dang!) Finally, if you're a diabetic, or, if you're simply avoiding carbs and you don't mind a little osmotic diarrhea, MVC&C has a nice selection of sugar free candy! Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy isn't going to replace Boyd's Retro Candy Store in MY heart, but it certainly is nice to have options. I love visiting this store. Sodas that I never thought I would see again. Although I wish she carried the diet versions of the soda too. If she did, I would be in there several times a week. We stopped in here twice while passing through town since Maumee has a charger for our Tesla nearby. The first time I wanted to get some chocolates for a gift, and the second time I wanted more French Burnt Peanuts. This shop is actually pretty small, but there's a lot packed inside! There's a selection of room temperature sodas from both small bottling shops with standard flavors and the more gimmicky, fun sodas too. There's also lots of harder to find candies and more commercial branded candies. There's a large collection of chocolate covered nuts of various types and gummies in grab and go plastic containers. Then they also have their own chocolates which are really beautiful. They do a great job decorating them, though the Key Lime and Buckeye I had were O-K, not amazing. The Buckeye just sorta lacked the creamy flavor blend that I hope for. There's was a lot of peanut butter and it leaned heavily on the crumbly side and didn't really get that creamy mouth feel. The chocolate was a milk chocolate and just tasted very sweet and basic. The Key Lime truffle had a thick chocolate shell and lacked a lot of punch in the lime filling. I had hoped for more. However, those dang French Burnt Peanuts ignited some temporary addiction in me! I forgot how good they can be. They balance the "burnt" flavor set well in balance with the sweet candy around them and have a good crunch. Honestly, a great spot to stop for gift, snack, or otherwise! read more

This is an excellent candy shop. We were amazed by the selection. There were very many nostalgic candies here. The 5 of us bought the slide whistle pops and had so much fun tooting them together that evening! We also found flying saucer candy, chocolate covered gummy bears, Swedish fish, and huge store made chocolate turtles. I was impressed by the bonus finds of strange bottled sodas and metal lunch boxes. It was winter, so we didn't partake, but there was also ice cream sold by the scoop. The prices aren't old-time cheap, but expected. This little town is lucky to have this gem of a store. Best thing about it was for sure the vast selection. read more

The Hot Chocolate Bombs are AMAZING! I will be going back to get them for all the children in the family (and at least one for me!) The friendly service is also great! Lots of people on the neighborhood pages are selling these bombs out of their homes but why risk it? This kitchen is inspected and the chocolate is delicious! Wow! Love it here! Went for the first time today, and I bought a bounty bar, some gum, chocolate covered cherries and blueberries, and some truffles. All of the chocolates they they make are wonderful. All of the chocolate has great flavor (we bought mint and pumpkin chocolates). Nothing was overtly sweet or flavored. I've bought Italian chocolates from Eatly in New York, and these chocolates kick Eatly's butt. Also, the staff was incredibly friendly. I will be going back for all my candy needs and gifts. read more

I think it is a mistake to lower this place from a 5 star rating to a 3 star based on a few cutbacks in stocked chocolate after the holiday season. The owner mentioned they will make other items on request. I know my daughter ordered some buckeyes for friends in Colorado and they made a batch in 2 days. I had champagne truffles and they were very good., Carmel's, sea salt Carmel, covered cherry, rasberry cream, coconut haystack , almond toffees all were excellent. This is a small family run business and I would rather give them my dollars when my wife's sweet tooth attacks. read more

Walking in there is NO smell of chocolate - this should have been my first clue. More candy than Chocolate for sure. The chocolate I did buy was so old the coating fell off when I bit into it and the chocolate center was frosted white which happens when chocolate ages. The person behind the counter was far from welcoming never saw a smile. So sorry I bothered to stop and how stupid of me to spend my money when I should have turned around and walked out. read more
