Apologize for the delay on posting this review... We visited MacQueen's Orchard in late October on a Saturday. Due to it being close to Halloween and in Apple Season, it was busy. MacQueen's is a local business that has been around for years and not only do they offer pick your own apples and pumpkins, they have a nice produce selection, jam & jelly room, bakery (nothing better than warm donuts this time of year), cider mill where you can watch the bottling process, and a room full of Christmas decor. Staff is friendly and helpful even when they have a ton of people meandering about. Prices are fair for the quality of product and as I mentioned previously, their warm donuts are a hit! I hadn't been here in some time as it's not very close to home but we decided to change it up for our annual apple picking family tradition. I'm glad we came earlier in the season because there was plenty of fruit to pick from! Why I'm giving this place 3 stars: - There was a hole in the wagon wheel, in my opinion, someone should be keeping up with small maintenance things like that since the season is about to be in full swing. - The older ladies who were working outside made me uncomfortable as I was walking passed an empty booth and were not very friendly about the fact that I didn't know about a blue ticket I was supposed to have (my dad was the one who paid to get the apples and was walking in behind me). I would have been understanding but they were just judgmental and condescending about it. If it's such a big deal someone should be at that booth ready to check tickets if they know people are driving up.... -Donuts were nothing special but they do have A LOT of yummy looking choices -Really good selection of apples but horrible signage. There is a map but you have to take a picture or study it really well or you'll have no idea what you're picking. -If you have a hard time walking, this is probably not the place for you. Overall, there was a super sweet girl working the bakery. There's a corn maze that looks fun and plenty of pumpkins to choose from so it's not my favorite place but I might be back for the maze. read more

Figured it would be a good place To pick up a strawberry pie for company. It barely had any strawberries, maybe one piece for every three bites of the gel supporting the whip cream covering the sparse fruit. Very disappointed after having so many great pies from them. read more

This orchard came highly recommended by several people so we packed up the crew and headed to pick some apples. As we pulled into the orchard we saw the pony ride out front and on this hot, sunny day it was nice to see they were under a tent in the shade. We parked and headed out to the apples. Parking was FREE and the cost of apples INCLUDED the corn maze. Overall, the people were nice and the price was reasonable. The facility was clean and the donuts were delicious. The only criticism I have is that some of the apple varieties in the orchard are not well marked. It would be nice to know what you're picking. We dropped over $100 here and got a lot for our money. I give MacQueen's the highest marks as an orchard, as a specialty food outlet, and as a bakery. They have a wide variety of apples in a wide variety of size packages. They sell a brand of honey crisp apple sauce that my wife just loves! And their donuts and breakfast pastries are delicious. It is also one of the friendliest staffs I have dealt with. Always been a fan of this place, however I am unlikely to ever return now. Took the kids there to get their pumpkins for Halloween like we do every year. We got the pumpkins home to carve them and when my oldest cut into the top of it, we were shocked to find the entire inside was full of water and gnats. This pumpkin had rotted from the inside and when we picked it we had no way of knowing, the smell took our breath away. Of course my child was sad.....what kid wouldn't be. We rushed over to Monnette's Market, thankfully they had a decent selection of medium sized pumpkins like the one we got at MacQueens. My daughter was still visibly upset as we picked a pumpkin and the one worker overheard our whole conversation. They generously told us to just take it at no charge. What a gesture to put a smile on a kids face who certainly had an emotionally few hours. That is the very best part of locally owned, family first type of small businesses. I get MacQueens would have no way of knowing this pumpkin was rotted themselves..no one could have until it was opened up. I called them and just simply asked them to make the situation right, with a refund or credit on something on our next visit. I was basically told no and tough luck, got meaningless sorry about your situation and that was that. So lesson learned next year when we need pumpkins, need donuts, apples, apple cider. MacQueen's Orchard is an Autumn must. We start by shopping at their store, it has a lot of baked goods; however, the cider & T-shirts are my favorites. We picked apples in the orchard. (Cost $25 & comes with sturdy plastic bag.) Our apples were delicious & much better than grocery store quality. It's wonderful to be in nature & experience the change of the season by picking apples. There's a lot of varieties. And photo opportunities for the ladies who like Instagram. Especially in the pumpkin patch, which even has a tractor to pose with. There's a lot of ground to cover, if you want to branch out ;) We got a lot of steps in, while having such a lovely time. read more

MacQueens was a good time. We love Orchards and attend them frequently. I visited with my family, everyone from 75 year grandmother to my 7 year old son had a blast. Really nice and good foods here in market store. Having a piece of Dutch Apple pie. And was really good. Lots of local produced foods, canned, fresh both here. And the family, maybe, involved in barrel racing. Pictures on wall show that, and there is a horse setup next door, actually down the road a very short distance away. read more

I was in the bakery section last week, I was with my younger son and his girlfriend and we were just getting some donuts and some apple cider to enjoy a nice movie night together. There was a very sassy teen worker, I think her name was something like Chloe. She was tall and kinda dirty blonde, but she was very rude. My son told me that she had turned around and farted into the donuts. I asked her if this was true and she said she had. Another complaint I had was when I was getting my glazed donut she had licked the inner hole. read more

MacQueen's Orchard is the epitome of fall in Northwest Ohio. Ever since I was a little girl, every fall there would be a trip to MacQueen's to pick apples, get pumpkins, drink cider, and yes, of course, enjoy their fresh, hot donuts. On a recent trip back to Ohio, since I've moved away, I had the pleasure of bringing my boyfriend to MacQueen's to enjoy it in all of its glory. Sure, the place was PACKED and parking was a bit hectic but once we found a spot and were strolling through the orchard, all our cares melted away. We enjoyed our cliche, impromptu orchard photoshoot and getting some fresh air. We strolled through the store and were amazed at all the fall products they managed to cram into one place. And yes, we waited almost 45 minutes in line just to get a fresh, hot donut (he complained but I ignored him). No matter what people say about the crowds, the parking, whatever - MacQueen's is nostalgia and will always hold a special place in my heart. read more

We have a field trip to this place with the family and ordered donuts and cider. Everyone loved it because the weather was nice and they have picnic tables out front with room for all 30 of us. Lawn was nice and grassy place for the kids to run around a little bit. Everyone liked their donuts and this was the highlight of our day. Early in season the have several different type all they had still for picking was delicious fresh mild sweetness with a crunch to each bite . Which was a pleasant surprise . The have an indoor market for there produce, bags of variety of apples fresh canned bake juices donuts there is a little something for everyone . Very pleasant afternoon . Sunday at almost noon & there wasn't a line! This place can get quite busy to buy a doughnut or pie but even if there is a line it's totally worth the wait! Doughnuts & pies are made fresh daily and in house. I had an apple fritter & it was good, maybe a little too much frosting but I sure did get my sugar high! I tried a bite of the maple chocolate, honestly I didn't like it. Then I tried a bite of the blueberry...um to die for! The store is adorable, think Cracker Barrel country store but more realistic. They have jams & jellies. They have little Christmas gifts to cookbooks to jug your own apple cider. Just a cute little country bumpkin kinda place that feels homey & fun. I'm still giving 5 stars because this is a family based business, it's cute & quaint & the people are very friendly. The only negative is that they don't sell milk...boohoo. Everyone needs milk to go with their doughnuts! So we held off on our doughnuts until we could stop at a Meijer about 10 min away to buy a gallon of milk. We lived through it! We were looking for a new cider mill. We had been to Franklin and Erie this year and all the ones from Dexter to Plymouth and wanted something new. Since we live by the Ohio border we thought we'd see what they had. I couldn't find any listed in the Toledo area so I looked under "orchards". Macqueen's popped up and since it was less than an hour away we took a drive there before Thanksgiving. The place is really a gift shop, orchard and farm market with a working cider press. Their cider is pasteurized( for those who prefer it that way). The cider is sweet and well-balanced. You can sample it for ten cents, get a cider slushy for $1.50, or a gallon for $5.95. Prices were the surprise-in Michigan, a gallon of cider is $10 and up. We loaded up the car with cider for the holiday, plus pies, donuts, etc., and left with change from a fifty! The farm market had a nice balance of Michigan and Ohio brands, plus some things I've never seen before-beef chunks, anyone? Pickled garlic? Tomatilla salsa? Popcorn buckets that looked like chamber pots with the Patriots logo on the front? I'm sure you can find someone on your Christmas list that wants that! Open all year round, they also have their own apple and peach trees and will give you a schedule for when they're ready for picking. Everything is a little pricey but the red haven peaches & blueberry donuts are to die for!

What a great local Toledo spot for the family! We decided to check this place out because we had no idea we had our very own Cider Mill in our backyard! Cute place that had many kid activities (pony rides, apple picking, etc). The store is a cute place that has lots of yummy looking things inside. But the bakery is where all the action is at! We got right in line! As you are waiting in line, you pass by the fridge with all the apple cider ($5.95 for a gallon). They even have 2 kegs of apple cider that you can sample it as well for 10 cents. If you also bring in your own container, you can fill it for $5.70 for a gallon. There cider is ah-may-zing! It is very flavor full and seems thicker than other ciders. The consistency just tastes more apple-y. I have no other way to describe it, but you definitely had to check it out! Once we got to the bakery counter we had to make decisions fast! Most of their pies are about $10. We went with the Dutch Apple Pie (one of my faves) and got a cinnamon cider donut each. They have so many options (blackberry and rhubarb pies, pumpkin and sprinkle donuts, etc.). We will definitely have to come back! The Cinnamon Cider donuts tastes basically like mini funnel cakes. Lots of sugar on them! This is probably why I think these cider donuts are one of the best I've ever had! Took that apple pie home and ate it with a scoop of ice cream and it is to die for. We will finish this pie this week and hopefully go back next weekend (it will be the 36th Annual Apple Butter Festival) to try another pie. Can't wait to go back! Pros: - delicious cider donuts...seriously don't pass on this! - yummy home-made pies - lots of kid activities to do at the orchard besides picking apples Cons: - it was obscenely hot in the store...I felt bad for the employees working in the bakery - the line is pretty long for the bakery items - they need a more efficient way for people to pay - I felt bad for those ponies that had to stand in the hot sun...there was no shade for them nearby Why I gave it a 4... Fun place to go to on a lazy Sunday. The apple cider and the cinnamon cider donuts are definitely one of the best of I've ever had. Will definitely go back for more! We went to the Apple Butter festival yesterday. They supposedly hold this every year? But this was our first visit. They could have done better with parking. If they rented out space, such as at one of the businesses closed yesterday or a farmers field that wasn't in use then they could have run shuttles back and forth. I've been to Apple Butter festivals in other states where they actually had people MAKING apple butter in States like: Virginia, West Virginia, Rhode Island, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusettes, New Jersey, Nebraska, Georgia & Florida. Also Maple syrup, Strawberry everything, Orange anything, Cranberries, pumpkin butter, & peach butter. . In all of those states that have festivals based on what the Orchards had ripe at the time, the one factor in all of them was that they were "MAKING" SOMETHING. How can you hold an Apple Butter Festival and just sell MacQueen's own apple butter without any displays of making it????!??? . What we saw were rides for kids, a place to "pick apples" that was held in a barn and the "picking" consisted of just picking different varieties from boxes. They should have listed that farce as "selecting apples" and not "picking." Everywhere we turned, there were vendors selling some goods but mostly over-priced foods. We went into the building were you can purchase fruits and vegetables but after shopping at some of the other "farm-fresh", (Mom & Pop,) "locally-owned" markets selling wares from All over Ohio (including MacQueen's apples) I WON'T ever again pay the MacQueen's prices for things. The tiny jar of pumpkin butter that was $5 was the last time they will get any of my hard-earned money. . I was just disgusted by rude employees who wouldn't answer simple questions without giving nasty attitudes or just turning their back on us while we were asking about handicap parking areas. I might have anticipated that kind of rudeness in NJ were I recently spent the last 8 years living but in Ohio were I live once again, we expected a certain amount of politeness especially because we were polite. . The other issue I have with MacQueen's is that as a handicapped person who uses a cane for walking, I noticed that in sections all over the place they had hazards with no thought, apparently, to put up signs warning the general public to be careful of extension cords stretched between tents and buildings which was the ONLY way to walk. I probably tripped at least 4 times yesterday and if I had been alone instead of with my friend I would have ended up on the ground. Which would have been extremely bad for me because of my health issues. The "main drag" so to speak also had extension cables running from tents & stages from one side to the opposite side where they were either electricity and/or water. No signs there either letting the general public know that they should be careful walking over them. . I just don't get the reason for the rude employees, excessive prices, dangerous conditions, that MacQueen's orchard put out for a "festival" which should have been called a Fair or "a day at the Orchard." Which is technically ALL THAT IT WAS. Nothing festive there in the least. . I could have stayed home instead of risking life & limb at a place that clearly DOESN'T CARE ABOUT the disabled portion of it's Community. read more

Shame Shame Shame on MacQueens. This community has supported you for decades and what do you do?......Was in your store recently and a gallon of Apple Cider was $6.99 (which is ridiculous). Went to Monnette's Market on Glendale and the same gallon of MacQueens Apple Cider is only $3.99. Is it really necessary for MacQueens to mark their merchandise up at the orchard for its loyal hometown clientele that much? I think NOT. Shame on you! read more

Oh the memories. We used to come out here when I was a kid to get doughnuts and produce. This visit marks the first in many years, but things have not changed much. Located on a sprawling orchard and farm that lets you "pick your own", there is also plenty of produce to just pick up at the main stand itself. Apples, of course, are the specialty, and all the products that go with them - apple cider and fritters being my favorites. The shop also operates a fantastic bakery, though, which offers doughnuts, coffee cakes, bread, pies, and cider slushies...and smells absolute amazing. There are also products for sale not made by MacQueens, including soup mixes, various dips, pop corn, and so on. Meanwhile, in the back room, there is an entire room of different jams, and also a window and dining area where you can order ice cream, sandwiches, and so on. Cider is a specialty, so be sure to try that. There are a couple big kegs in the back corner where you can do so, paying I think $0.10 for a sample. This was something I remembered from being a kid - it was always a treat to try the cider. There is also a Christmas room that is very pretty and positively enchanting for a kid. The night we went, the place was ridiculously crowded. Out front there were various child-friendly rides, and including a pony ride. Meanwhile, a man was making kettle corn and funnel cakes. We partook of the latter, which was very good (and very large). Just watch out for the bees which congregate around the shop for the apples and spilled cider. The prices are a little higher than you will pay at your grocery store, but the quality of the fruit and baked goods is definitely worth the indulgence now and then. And if you have a kid, the memories are definitely worth a visit. read more

I have been coming to MacQueens for many years, both bringing my folks and then bringing other friends and I have noticed in recent years how prices are so much higher than other places but I decided that the variety of items and things to see & do outweighed that. However, this year I purchased my regular 2 bags of Honey Crisp apples @$12.50/bag, average 12apples a bag, along with 3 cucumbers. Well, cutting into the cucumbers that night found them to be pink inside and a bit mushy...threw them away as I have no time to take them back. Then I cut some apples up only to find large brown spots & mushy parts so 1/4 of the apples I cut into were thrown away! I think I will be looking for a new place to buy apples! read more

Purchased a half gal. And finished it in one night. Unfortunately way too long of a line to purchase the alleged best donut in town so guess Id have to go back on another day. Granny smith, red delicious, Fuji, etc. and they also let you go out into the orchard and pick your own apples. Oh and their cider, it's amazing. If heaven had an official drink, I'm sure it would be MacQueen's Apple Cider. It's such a quaint place that has a lot of unique items, interesting jams and jellies, candy, produce, and donuts. I would love to go to MacQueen's for the donuts but after trying them several times they are just inedible. They are WAY too greasy.There is so much oil oozing out it's all over my fingers and lips. Just terrible. I wish they would solve this issue because I would love to go back. I know this can be done because Wixie's bakery NEVER has greasy donuts. But, MacQueen's does have some great apple and cinnamon bread. read more
