My wife and I were shopping for a car to replace out totaled 2016 Prius V. We headed to Vestal to check out Matthews as they sell a few of the brands that we wanted to try out. We had a great experience with a sales rep at their Mitsubishi / VW dealership even though I didn't fit into most of the cars we looked at. The salesman we were working with recommended we check out their Kia / Subaru store and called ahead for us. Upon arriving we were immediately greeted by Brian Chadwick and I'm happy to say everything worked out great. I explained what we were looking for and he took us to a bunch of vehicles so we could see how I fit into them. Eventually we test drove a 2020 Subaru Outback even though it wasn't on our list and we loved it. We went back in and did the preliminary paperwork which was painless. There was no pushiness around the optional extras that they offered. Most importantly the price was very fair without having to do any kind of haggling. When all that we could do with Brian was finished for that evening we were passed onto one of the finance people who was also very nice, and again this was completely straight forward. No backroom sales pitches or any other junk that we've run into before. We came back the following Thursday to finish all the paperwork and take delivery of out new Outback. The process was very relaxed and if I can be honest, we left without feeling like we'd gone through what I'd call a normal car buying process. This was so far removed from any experience we've had in the past, we will definitely be coming back here the next time we need a replacement vehicle. When I called to check on my warrenty and a part that my car needed I was assured that the part was covered. When they brought out my bill after the repair, I was told my warrenty was expired. I explained that I was told otherwise when I called. They then said they would Goodwill the part. Then I was told I would just have to pay the deductible and for the oil change... Oil change? Called Ithaca for appt where I purchased and had service prior. Told me about "quick service" place in Vestal. 1) Idea of quick??? 1 1/2 HOURS for OIL CHANGE!! 2) 2020 Car, 17,000 miles (1 year 4 months owned) tried to sell me $800 worth of tires and alligignment!!! Year old!!!!!! NO!!! Would highly NOT recommend!! Ripoff, slow...Ithaca with appt was 20 min. Not try sell me stuff..Now ac fan motor making high "motor sound" didn't make when took in !! Wow!!!! I've been taking my car to Matthews for quite a few years, they've serviced everything, from brakes to oil changes; I've counted on them to diagnose and fix multiple issues over the years. Last week I took the car in and out of the blue they told me I needed a new car, the front end was all rusted out and would cost more to fix than the car was worth. Once again Matthews comes through. I was looking to get back into a sportier drivers car and I was having problems locating what I wanted. After speaking with Stacy Arroyo I still had hope. Well I get a call from Rob Finta and they have an acceptable car on the lot. Covid killed production and finding what you're looking for was pretty hard. Anyway I drive over check out the car and get dealing. Well that was pretty painless but I upgraded from a Crosstrek to a new WRX. It's better than driving 4 hours to find a car. This review is only for the service department. In 2018 my husbands vehicle purchased brand new from them had the check engine light come on. He read the code, told them what it was upon bringing it to them and they took it back and said a mouse build a near around the sensor, they cleaned it out and is good. Light comes back few days later, same code. Leave it with them for 10 days while on vacation. They tell us it needed a software update. The light comes back on before leaving the parking lot.. we call them and whoever answered was very sympathetic and said to bring it in ASAP and they will fit him in for the inconvenience. We do this and are turned away because they're busy.. I called back two days later and had to be nasty in order for them to just replace the sensor that they should've done in the first place. They finally do, and the light never came back on. Just brought my car here for a NY state inspection and am in town for a short period of time. Dropped the car off around 10 am as instructed and they ask when I'd like to pick it up by. I told them anytime today as I'm not living here anymore and am headed back home. I get a call around 12:30 saying they're going to replace the wiper blades and a bulb and will call me when it's done. I didn't get a phone call by 5:30, had to call the sales dept to speak to someone and they were sympathetic and helpful trying to fix someone else's screw up. The service department never called me to tell me my car was done and the service department closed. I come to pick up my car after hours and find they left a tool on my windshield.. how sloppy. We've had great experiences with the sales department but idk what happens with service if they are too busy and can't keep up with customers and follow through with work but it's awful. read more

Matthew's Auto is the place to go if you have an Oil Leak and you need a quick diagnosis! I drive a lot for work, up to 600 miles a week and I am on the road Monday-Friday out of state, when I noticed an oil leak under my car I began to panic. I own a 2008 Subaru which was at the time of the leak at 90,000 miles. Like most Subaru owners, I love my Subaru, so choosing the right service provider was very important. While Saturday Morning appointments typically need be made in advance they had an opening to look at my car Saturday following my Monday call for appointment. I showed up to my appointment on time and within a short amount of time I was able to talk to the Service Representative who was going to look at my car. I was able to explain the problem and hear his constructive feedback which made me confident he would be able to determine the cause of the leak. Within only 15 minutes he had determined I had a head gasket leak (which I assumed could be the culprit). The rep showed me the location of the leak and educated me on the work that needed to be done. Knowing that I needed my car fixed before Monday morning sunrise, the Matthews team began taking my car apart to replace the head gaskets. They kept me updated during the entire length of the work in their more than accommodating waiting room. Prior to returning my car Matthews cleaned up all the oil the leak had made and test drove my car to be sure everything was running smoothly. Luckily because I had gotten my car in early enough in the day, the staff had the time, and parts my car needed, my car was fixed well before end of day. While the details created a lengthy review, I believe it's important to know the A+ service I was provided during this visit. While Head Gasket replacement can be costly and can have lengthy repair time, I was quoted what I believe to be a fair price for labor and parts and service that couldn't have been better. I will most definitely be returning to Matthews in the future! read more

Best car dealership I have dealt with. I'll keep it short and to the point. I didn't get the run around with my salesman Rob Finta. I had a difficult trade in and was very set on a number and Rob along with the sales managers met my number after a little back and forth. Buyer beware. At point of sale my experience was good. From there it has been nothing short of awful. I purchased a truck. Was told it passed NY inspection even though I am a PA resident they stated it would pass PA inspection. Since then the vehicle has failed multiple attempts at a PA inspection. Multiple components of the truck were broken and never disclosed during the sale. How did it even pass NY inspection to begin with? That's just unsafe. I contacted them via email with no reply back from them. Selling broken or damaged vehicles while stating everything is fine and then ignoring customers is just bad and crooked business practices. I have been to Matthews many times over the years & have never bought a car at any of their dealerships. Reasons, prices are too high & they give you nothing for your trade-in! This one price b/s works to their benefit & not the customer. I have checked used car values for vehicles in this area with Edmonds.com against what Matthews is saying their one price is , they are always $1300 to $1500 more than True Car Value for this area! Let's say you build your vehicle at the Chevrolet website & they give you the price. Then try going to Matthews, their one price may be a thousand $ less which I guarantee you'll be able to do much better at another dealer. Theresa Matthews comments on tv commercials are funny at best & should be considered propaganda! Don't believe this one price b/s at all, they maximize every chance for profit & are never looking out for your best interest. There are many people I know that will not go to Matthews dealerships (contrary to most of these reviews), they'll go out of town for a better deal. read more

We found Rob to be straightforward, honest and reliable, and easy to reach even though he was working very long hours for all of Matthews' dealerships during the coronavirus pandemic. In the four decades that we've been buying cars, these traits have been very hard to find in a car salesperson, and we thank Rob for his integrity and willingness to work with us. We purchased a 2010 Matthews Mazda CX-9 from here in 2013. Long story short, 3 years into it, nothing but headaches and free car washes from this dealership. They quoted us 3800-4800 for a transmission because they said the one in our 2010 cx9 was shot (transmission fluid was completely burnt and had ruined solenoids) or I could trade in the car to them for 4000. I have since taken it to two other transmission mechanics and they cannot find the problem Matthews Mazda was talking about. Both separate Mechanics could have lied to me and said the same thing Matthews Mazda did and i would of forked the money over but they said there wasn't anything wrong. Yeah the fluid in the transmission was dark but that was normal. But Matthews Mazda will try and take you for every penny in their service department. Most people like to know what services they are having done and the price before they do the work, not after when your about to check out after sitting there all day and find out they did services you did not expect and now you owe them hundreds of dollars. So back to the tranny problem, Their price for a used cx-9 transmission from Dons Auto Parts 3,800+tax. Matthews Ford (Same Matthews Company) will get that same exact transmission from Dons Auto for 2500 including labor. I asked them to at least match that price. The 'service adviser' Joe actually scoffed, he doesn't like to be questioned, actually talks down to you when your asking questions. He said no they will not match that, it doesn't matter I purchased the car from them, doesn't matter it barely has 80,000 miles on it and we have always kept it serviced. I have owned many Mazda's always purchased them from dealerships, only went with Matthews Mazda because I loved the convenience of it being right in Vestal where I travel often.I should have done my research better. Check for yourself Romano's Mazda in Syracuse is a much better choice, they have better selection, they are in for the long haul, offering certified Mazda's at honest prices. Do yourself a favor, go the extra mile to Romano's, do the research for yourself. I personally will never purchase a car from Matthews Mazda again, nothing but disappointments and tons of coupons for free car washes. Thanks, but no thanks. I had been attempting to find a specific Subaru since December 2013... I had looked at Subarus all over upstate NY and northern PA hoping to find a 2009-2011 Impreza hatchback with reasonable miles for a reasonable price. Of course, people don't like to part with Subarus so finding a low mileage one that's a few years old is a near impossibility! I have been all over the place, to multiple dealers, driven many, many Imprezas... This last week I went back to Matthews. The car I had found on their website was already sold however, Cinnamon Myers remembered me from winter and found me another car that was exactly what I wanted: It turned out they had a second one, but it was mislabeled on their website! She was efficient, professional and had me in the car within 2 days. It was an easy and pleasant experience. Having bought several cars elsewhere in the past I can honestly say this was the most professional, efficient, not pushy and helpful experience I have EVER had at any car dealer. My sister had dropped me off to pick up the car and was so impressed with her as a salesperson that she told me she would be trading in her car with Cinnamon and Matthews when she is ready for a new purchase.
