Split Scoop: But First + Reverse S'mores Tiny Scoop: Paris Morning
    Lillian W.

We could always use another artisan ice cream shop in the area! I was excited to see Matthan's open with deliciously crafted flavors. I love the Asian inspired influences! We were able to sample a few flavors before ultimately choosing But First, Reverse S'mores, and Paris Morning. My dad is a huge fan of coffee and chocolate which really came through in their But First flavor, the Reverse S'mores is perfect for chocolate and s'mores lovers! I personally enjoyed the Paris Morning, the croissant mixed in with the stracciatella created a perfect balance of flavors and texture. I appreciate the option of the tiny scoop, it's the perfect amount of ice cream for me. If they released monthly / seasonal flavors that could be a huge draw - wishing great success to them!

They were open late during the Friday farmers market so we thought to try and stop by to try a new place. The flavors were so rich and bold! The reverse s'more was my favorite! The chocolate was so decadent. What was most memorable about Paris morning was how a croissant was incorporated into the ice cream and it did not taste soggy. Every bite was like a fresh croissant in sweet cream. So so delicious! I highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

So far so good! I tried their avocado-based icecream which reminded me of street icecream in the Philippines~ I can't wait to try their other flavors and so glad to find another Filipino-owned business open in Monrovia

We walked over to our new neighborhood ice cream shop and absolutely loved it! It's family-owned and operated, and everyone was so welcoming. We tasted nearly everything--and every single flavor was amazing! We left with scoops of Reverse S'mores, Paris Morning, Intertwined, and a Triple Threat-Golden Afternoon combo. We also indulged in a matcha flight paired with a scoop of But First. Everything was unbelievable! We left completely happy and already excited to come back. Congratulations on your soft opening! Wishing your family unlimited success--you've created something truly special! STOP BY AND SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES!!

We came twice in the last week. It's so good and they are so nice there. All the flavors are so unique and tasty! I will definitely be back.

This is the newest ice cream place in town, and they are currently in their soft opening phase. They offer a super interesting lineup of Asian-inspired flavors, and I really liked that the desserts aren't overly sweet. The ube matcha flavor was very matcha-forward rather than tasting too milky, and the black sesame was rich and distinctly sesame-forward as well. There is plenty of seating available both inside and outside the shop. Right now, the crowd seems to be mostly families stopping by to check it out.

Matcha/ Ube (purple & green flavor) tasty rich and unique combo. Chocolate cup and vanilla ice cream; (reverse s'mores & Paris flavor) Rich creamy texture and great flavor.

Great new ice cream spot. They offer seasonal flavors, they just opened up two weeks ago. We tried three different flavors. They also give you samples so you can pick the one you like best. They were very friendly, even opened the door for us. The inside was nice and cold away from the hot weather, inside was very clean and had some tables and chairs to enjoy the cool treats. Will def come back and try more. Dare I say they are better than Moo Moo Mia? You guys tell me what you think.

Matthan's Ice Cream is a new spot that just opened in Monrovia. They specialize in unique flavors that are asian-inspired! We got a double scoop of Intertwined (ube + matcha) and Every Last Bit (lychee + coconut jelly). They both were extremely well done, especially Intertwined as the matcha and ube were both equally balanced in flavor without one outshining the other, and not too sweet! The wait was quick, he answered all of our questions, and he let us sample all the flavors without rushing us. There were plenty of seats to sit and enjoy this little sweet treat, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. We went on a Saturday afternoon and parking is plentiful and it's on Myrtle so there's plenty of shops and restaurants to walk to in that area. We loved this little spot and we can't wait to come back and try their other flavors!

TLDR: There's always something fun about new businesses. They bring something exciting to the community, and they always put their best foot forward. Now, it's a question of maintaining that same standard. I was very happy that they went with fusing multiple flavor profiles together, instead of going with singular flavors. Each flavor is inspired by a story of the owners. Personally, I prefer that you make your own memories inspired by their product. If I had to pick a downside, it's their pint pricing. It's 2-ish dollars more than the places I go to, so it's a bit noticeable. Paris Morning: Toasted Croissant, Dark Chocolate, Stracciatella. Words cannot describe my interest when I saw it. The sample does not do this flavor enough justice. Stracciatella is my favorite flavor, and I feel that they did a very good job of nailing the flavor profile. The dark chocolate helped add a bit more color and balance the sweetness of the Stracciatella. I think the joy of this comes from the croissant. Initially, I wasn't aware that it was there. I just found the "thin wafer like" sheets in the ice cream as a fun added texture. The deeper I got into the pint, I started eating larger (but still soft) chunks. When I realized that it was croissant, I found it very charming. The naming convention suddenly made sense to me, and I feel that this is a sign of good menu design and product design. Taste, texture, and dynamism within the same product that doesn't deviate from what the label promised. Giving people's mouths enough to experience and wonder. Every Last Bite: Lychee and Coconut Jelly. This is as straightforward as it gets. If you like Lychee, you'll like this. It packs a very cool and flavorful punch. I wasn't that sold on it when trying it in the store, but this was a godsend when I was eating it under the hot baking sun. They maintained the same philosophy of needing to add texture within their products. I initially thought the coconut jelly was lychee balls, but I think coconut was the right call. Adding layers to a relatively simple flavor profile while keeping things simple. Ambiance: Pleasant. Seats 10 ish. Decent merch shop(very good quality t-shirts). Service: It was their first day, so the owners were just raring to go. I hope they keep that energy, and I'm looking forward to going back.

Such a cute new ice cream spot! My favorite is the Golden Afternoon -- the flavor instantly reminded me of my childhood in the Philippines and brought back so many nostalgic memories. Everything was delicious, and I'm excited to come back and try more flavors! I'm hoping they'll eventually bring pandesal to the menu and maybe even make a pandesal ice cream sandwich someday. That would be amazing! Definitely worth checking out!

Great service and unique yummy ice cream! Had the Golden Afternoon and it was so good! It wasn't overly sweet and you can taste every flavor! I will definitely come back and try more flavors.

I'm updating my previous review because I recently tried the Tamarind Lime Chili soft serve, and it is an absolute 10/10 must-get. I trusted the staff's expertise and went with their recommended pairing: Chamoy gummy bears, Tajín, and pomegranate molasses. It was an incredible flavor combination--fruity, tart, and gently spicy--serving as a fantastic homage to Mexican candy profiles. It's a bold, refreshing choice, perfect for anyone who loves tangy, savory-sweet, and spicy flavors. A big shout-out to Donny for his excellent service! He was patient, friendly, and incredibly helpful in guiding us through the menu and offering samples. I'll definitely be back, even if my wife continues to tease me for choosing "spicy" ice cream. One thing I've learned is that the experience here really shines when you lean into their expertise. While the soft serve is solid on its own, adding the right toppings elevates it significantly. When I try to guess the combinations myself, it can be hit or miss, but sticking to their recommendations was a home run. Overall, it's a 5/5 for flavor. While the pricing is a bit premium--I paid $20 for one large with three toppings and one small--the quality is high enough that I don't mind paying for the experience. When the flavor hits this hard, it is absolutely worth it!

We went in and my goodness the place is colorful, like a circus of random things of toys, trinkets, accessories and fridges full of packed desserts. Today's Flavors definitely means something special, but their triple organic milk was unique. It tasted like fresh sweet milk, tastes even better on top of a brownie and with an extra topping (chocolate balls). More people started coming in and given the space we decided to go back with our ice cream, they have chairs outside where lots of people were eating their ice cream too. I tried the lychee and matcha soft serve flavors, and ended up getting the matcha flavor. Those flavors were good, the lychee and matcha were pungent. But the texture of the soft serve wasn't my favorite. The texture wasn't my favorite, it was more of an icy texture as oppose to a creamy silky texture which I would have preferred. I usually like the Oreo topping on my soft serve since it gives it a crunch, but it just didn't taste that good after a few bites. This soft serve was also a bit pricey, it was around $7 for the soft serve and topping, which was a bit disappointing since it wasn't that great. My friend also got their crunchy nut ice cream and didn't like it. I wish I liked this place more since they have Asian flavors but unfortunately it wasn't my favorite. Ordered the ube swirl, pineapple dole whip, mung bean taiyaki, and a custard one togo. The taiyaki that goes onto the ice cream is a lot bigger than one we ordered to go. I thought it would be as big, but when I got it, it was so much smaller and flat. Also, the taiyaki that goes on top of the ice cream was old. It had been sitting there for a while or was made earlier as it was hard and difficult to bite. The red bean inside I also assumed was a paste like how they make the Japanese version, however there were whole pieces in there. It was okay, but I thought they'd be like paste. Overall, the only thing that was good was the ube swirl and the pineapple dole whip. It was also extremely warm in the shop, like no AC in the triple digits summer heat. Had to eat it elsewhere. I most likely won't be back.
