I've been into Sourdough bread these days and researching reputable places with good sourdough. I am glad to find this place on my way home from work! Bought their basic white sourdough - no complaint! Tangy with hearty crispy surface. Inside was softer than other places, with a lot of airy pockets and never dry. They sell other Italian staples like wines, cheese, and fresh pasta. They have a cozy eat-in area serving highly reputed pizzas. Will come back for sure! Pizza, pasta, and focaccia - a lot more to try!

I'm a regular here - and it's long due for a review! A gem in the east end - amazing pizzas, and even better service! They have a great roster of pizzas and other sandwiches that you can order for pick-up or that you can enjoy in the restaurant. You can pick up various other items when you come in - bread (sourdough is baked on-site), cheese, olives, pasta sauce, and other snacks like chips! I actually think their sourdough is the best in the city. Tastes amazing and the texture is perfect. You can HEAR the crust when you cut in. On the pizzas - I love the classics (Margherita, Napoli) but also like the La Mucca (which has ricotta). The thin crust dough is always perfection! Shout out to Timothy at this location, thanks so much!

Lonely Diner - Menu

Lonely Diner

Sometimes you walk into a place and you instantly fall in love…read more Lonely Diner is just such a place. It's got this '70s rec-room basement vibe that I personally find completely irresistible. If I had a house, I'd want at least one room that looks exactly like what Lonely Diner's got going on. And fortunately, the drinks and food live up to the incredible atmosphere. I started out with the Haw Yeah ("Rum blend, amaro meletti, pernod, hawflakes, high octane black sugar falernum, mulberry grenadine, lime"), which is a delicious spin on a typical tiki drink. I've ordered it twice now, and it's satisfied me completely on both occasions. Another favorite for me is the Lucky Numb-er 8 ("Gin, pomello & lemongrass gentian, cocchi americano, dry vermouth, sichuan peppercorn tincture"), which is their spin on a white Negroni. It's so damn good. It's packed with flavor and definitely reminds me of a Negroni, but like better than any Negroni I've ever had. If that wasn't impressive enough, the food is terrific too. I tried one of their specials, the Wasabi Fried Chicken Sandwich ("Sichuan peppercorn battered fried chicken with a wasabi spiced caesar dressing and anchovies on a brioche bun"), on my latest visit and it's so, so good. The perfectly cooked and impressively juicy chicken is accompanied by an incredibly flavorful assortment of accouterments. I inhaled it, pretty much. The servers at Lonely Diner are super friendly and helpful, too. I love Lonely Diner. I hope it sticks around for a long, long time.

But dont expect full blown durian. Its very subtle. Food was very delicious as i dont expect much from bar food. But this was worth trying!

We went for the Sunday Oasis brunch. The menu looked good and while it was steep at $75 per person, we liked that kids (think it was 5 and under) were free. Each station was pretty small so it's not a big buffet area but each small section looks very nice and surprisingly very tasty. It's not the run of the mill buffet food. The salmon was tender, the prime rib at the carving station was delicious, the waffle station has great accompaniments, the bread and cheeses were delicious, the shrimps were humongous, the mussels were so good. Even the desserts were very tasty despite it being a relatively small selection for a buffet. Food was great, service was quite spotty though as they were busy and our server keeps forgetting about us. Value is okay, I mean everything is good but it is quite pricey so you're paying for being able to sample lots of variety but unless you focus your efforts on the seafood only, you're probably not getting good value here. I enjoyed the vibes and the food but it's probably one of those places you visit to check it out once a season as opposed to the weekly brunch spot.

MEDIOCRE ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BRUNCH BUFFET…read more Their all-you-can-eat oyster brunch buffet drew my friends' attention, so we went on a weekend back in the summer. Food selection is relatively limited, and overall food quality doesn't quite justify the price ($75pp). - The Good: Oysters are fresh and shrimps are HUGE! - The So-So: Oysters are quite small (even in "buck a shuck" standard). - The Bad: Quality of other items (e.g. roast beef, salmon steak, etc.) are just mediocre. The service is not bad in general, and our server checked in with us from time to time. The patio is excellent though and with plenty of tables under the shade. If we were to visit again, it'd probably for drinks only on a sunny afternoon so that we can chill out and enjoy the weather.

I arrived at around 6:30 on a recent Wednesday and the place was about half full. I snagged a spot at the end of the bar and began perusing the menu. Obviously I had to get the Bobby Burns in Manhattan ("Bourbon, Canadian Whisky, Blended Scotch, Italian Vermouth Blend, aromatic Bitters, Salted Vanilla and Drambuie. Burnt caramel with bright aromatics") and it was ready a few minutes later. It's incredible. It's right up there with the best Manhattans I've ever had, and it's sure possible it might be the best. The balance of flavors is right on point, and it's also been incorporated with other tastes that work perfectly. (I returned to Mother a few weeks later and it was just as good the second time.) I was feeling a little peckish, so I went ahead and ordered the Jerk Chicken Karaage. It arrived piping hot and was a far bigger portion than I had anticipated. I figured I'd never be able to finish it, but it was so delicious I inhaled the whole thing. For my second drink, I went with the Honey + ("100% Agave Reposado Tequila, Espadin Mezcal, Ontario Bee Pollen, Salted Lavender Honey & Fresh Citrus. Floral, Smoky & Tart"), and it was so satisfying and flavorful. (I'm all about that Manhattan, though.) Mother is a terrific place. The atmosphere is awesome and my bartender was super friendly and helpful. It deserves its place as one of the city's very best cocktail bars.

That was a great decision, as their food was some of the best I had in a while! Their jerk chicken karage was unique, flavourful, and elegantly put together. A must try! The steak dish was excellent as well, cooked perfectly, slathered with a flavorful sauce, and served with a bone marrow corn side that was unlike anything I've ever tasted. The udon noodles were good too, but the other dishes definitely shined above this one.

Each dish has elevated twist, and the price is so reasonable and even generous for the quality. Cocktails are excellent (lots of line-ups). They also serve nice choices of local craft beers on tap. We ordered: (Food) #Cast Iron Baked Brie fresh baked brie with house-made wild berry compote, candied pecans, prosciutto, garlic crostini $17 : This served as perfect appetizer for 3 of us. Enjoyable. Variety of ways to enjoy the baked brie. #Canadian Striploin 7oz striploin, garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables: We tried different & great steak dish here before, and this one is also EXCELLENT - the on-point seasonings, perfectly med-rare. Roasted veggies and mashed potato leave its own flavour and texture with right amount of seasonings. #Stuffed Mushroom Ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms, tossed in a beurre blanc sauce, topped with fresh Parmesan: I wished the ravioli itself had more mushroom-forward flavor, and the wrapper had more delicacy (in terms of thickness and texture). However, I loved the beurre Blanc sauce - it was foamy - making the butter-ly and creamy sauce feel light in the mouth. Nice hint of tangy-ness. #Herb Crusted Salmonwith garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables, and beurre blanc sauce: The same sauce as ravioli, that matched with salmon well. (Cocktails) #Fig Fizz: With Durham distillery Gin, Raspberry Liqueur, fig jam, lemon juice, honey syrup, soda # Lavender cosmopolitan # Passion Prosecco Martini # Spicy Hibiscus Margarita All the cocktails were presented beautifully. Today's highlight was Spicy Hibiscus Margarita. (Dessert) Chocolate Espresso Martini Cake rich vanilla cake, mascarpone, house-made chocolate espresso mousse $10: Essentially, tiramisu. lol. Nicely presented. This place is versatile for us. Just for snack, just for cocktails, just for local beer, and elevated food experiences. Promising satisfying experience in each occasion. So blessed to have this place in my neighbourhood.
