Eggrolls
Kandice Y.

Over the weekend, I went to the Farmer's Market in Fishers. I seen this spot thinking that they were just plain ole eggrolls but boy was I wrong. These are eggrolls 2.0! These are the crunchiest, most flavorful, golden eggrolls. The sauce that came with it was delicious. This place is a gem, and will be added to the list of my favorites.

They were good! 3 egg rolls for $5. Very crispy with a lot of filling. The owner makes them the way her mom made them in Laos.

Who knew hidden in a corner of the Fishers Farmers Market held a secret little homemade crispy savory delight. These egg rolls are super delicious! Perfectly crisp and crunchy on the outside, stuffed with a well seasoned cabbage, pork, noodle, veggie filling, and served with a homemade sweet & sour dipping sauce. Simply da-bomb! Come prepared as the line is always incredibly long but it moves quickly. Come early because they will run out. My mouth starts watering waiting in line as I anticipate devouring these succulent fresh rolls from the fryer. $9 gets you a half dozen, you save $1 when you buy a full dozen, and you can purchase singles but sometimes they forget to give you the sauce. The name Mathoo's means grandmother in Laotian. The owner grew up learning the art of Loatian cooking from her mother where she learned the secret egg roll family recipe. These are the real deal and made with love. Perfect for breakfast or lunch. If I had to assume a serving size I would say 3 per person is a good number as one simply won't do.

One word: EGG ROLLS! I am not a big fan of egg rolls but this place is to die for. The egg rolls are phenomenal. I look forward to every Wednesday at City Market downtown Indianapolis. Egg rolls are on the menu every Wednesday for lunch. I buy a half dozen just to have lunch for the next day. They are always hot and fresh when I purchase them. There are two options: pork and veggie. Both are great! They are only there from May until October from 9:30am-1:30pm so get there quick!

Mathoo's Eggrolls are simply addicting! These crispy bundles of joy are so good. I make trips to the Farmers market just to get these for breakfast every Saturday. Pricing can be a little steep for some, but once you've tried it, you know it's worth it!

We got the frozen ones from the Hayloft in Brownsburg. These are delicious, and easy to make at home.

I used to love the egg rolls until I bit into one that had a long, black hair wrapped into it. I haven't been able to come back since.

I visited because I heard through the grapevine that Carniceria Morelos sells tamales by the dozen,…read moreand you don't have to pre-order. I was right! They have a little food area in the back of the store, near the pan dulce, where they have tamales ready and waiting in steamers. You need to go to the register first and let them know how many and which kind of tamales you want, and they'll get them for you. I bought a dozen-and-a-half of the pork with red chile tamales, and they are very good! In fact, I'm eating one right now as I type this review! The tamales have the perfect proportion of masa to meat, and they are cooked all the way through and not at all gummy, like some tamales can get when they're not cooked properly. They have other tamales besides pork, but I was only interested in pork when I visited, so I can't tell you for sure what other kinds they have. This is also a grocery store, so there are lots of packaged Mexican foods here, as well as a small panderia with some bolillos and a selection of pan dulce. This looks to be a great place to find Mexican candy (Lucas, Tajin, tamarindo candy, those little disks of chalky peanut butter with the picture of the abuelita on them, etc.), as I saw a lot of different candies.

I've driven by the Bakery, so many times and wanted to stop, but I was always in a hurry. My sister and I went in and we each got a dessert and because it was four in the afternoon, we got decaffeinated coffee. The refills were free and we sat at the little counter like we were at a diner and enjoyed everything about this iconic little bakery. The decor is a eclectic. We just took our time and looked around and laughed at so many signs and odd little things that were placed over the years. On the way to the ladies room, you will find out that the gentleman that started the restaurant fought in one of the world wars, and you will see his worn out shoes, his uniforms, his letters of accommodation and Learn his story. Now let's get to the desserts. We shared some type of a wonderful lemon pastry and a black forest cake. Best black forest cake I've ever had. Savored every bite. We were able to buy the last of the springle's that they had made from Christmas. FYI, if you don't like black licorice don't buy Springerle's but you can only get them at Christmas because it's a German tradition and they won't work in the summertime because of the humidity. Things that I learned that day. We saw that they had a dinner menu with a huge variety of different bratwurst and assorted sausages that we would like to try sometime. We ended up spending an hour and a half in a beautiful little place that we thought we were just going to stop and grab desserts to go.
