Looked at one at Ashley furniture first and they offered a great couch for $1000 with free delivery and $200 off the top however we wanted to see if Mathis has a better quaility piece as Ashley's couches have typically only lasted us 3 years maximum before needing replacement. Walked in was never was asked if we needed help. After walking by bored looking reps 5 or so times I went to the entrance reception desk and asked if the bored looking lady could find us a sales rep to help us with a couch purchase, she looked confused and asked me 3 times what I meant. They she waived a really upset looking rep over who I walked over to the couch we were considering. I asked straight forward questions; We want a couch we looked at Ashley's and you guys have this one comparable for $1300. Can we get that closer to 1000 out the door Her answer; "no we don't do that here" Do what I asked... Her answer; "negotiate, in fact you're looking at the member's only pricing. To be a member is $140 and you're looking at $100 for delivery and tax" My response; " ok I'd be looking at close to $1700 for this $1300 couch here?" Her answer; "yes" My wife; "well we may need a rug and bedroom as well, would you give us any deal options for buying a combo purchase here?: Her answer; "nope no deals". That's when I said ok, thanks and bye and ran out the front door. I went to Ashley's and got my couch for the price I wanted. Atleast at Ashley's I know what I'm getting quaility wise. The sales rep at Mathis didn't even try to sell us on their pricing structure by saying: "well this is made here or you're getting a great warranty or we sell high quaility furniture". She said nothing to try to sell is purchasing at her store. It seemed like she didn't want us there and that she was ready to go home. If I were the ceo I'd likely re-evaluate my sales reps and possibly their policies because I suspect they'll be out of business within 3 years time. read more

Couch we saw was really good. So bought it. Was delivered on time. But when they delivered, it was the wrong color (teal instead of brown). Contacted my sales rep and I was able to get the manager's number from him. Manager's name is Bobby. He said keep the couch for now and they will make the right one and deliver it once it's ready. I said ok thanks. Another 6-7 weeks goes by and they say it's now ready. Schedule the delivery etc. Now when they come, they say they only have 3 of the 7 pieces. Called manager, he says to refuse delivery and they are out of stock of some of the pieces so it will be awhile again. After another few weeks, he says they can deliver now. Tell him, as I did before, that we will need a small truck. He says yes. I ask him to confirm a few times he says yes. After a week, at the time of delivery, the driver calls me when he's at my gate and says he has a huge truck and no one told him a small truck was needed. Called Booby. He said there's nothing else he can do other than put a note for the delivery team. I tell him that he should make sure whoever is there knows what to do properly. After some conversation, he says ok I will take care of it. Still don't have the proper couch, but this review here is to serve as a warning for those who are ordering delivery on custom items and the customer service that follows. Horrible Experience with Mathis Furniture in Irvine, CA - Avoid at All Costs! I had a truly frustrating and disappointing experience with Mathis Furniture at their Irvine location on March 28th, 2025. I attempted to purchase a Butler Specialty Jodha Cabinet for $129.00 on their website. However, due to some computer glitch, I had trouble processing my order. I took a screenshot of the order and called Mathis Brothers in Irvine to speak with a manager, Dillon. When I explained my issue, Dillon told me that he could not process the order for me over the phone and that I had to place it online. Before I hung up, I mentioned to Dillon that my son showed me how to search for the item on Google to compare prices across different retailers. To my shock, I found the same cabinet being sold anywhere from $405.00 to over $1,000. Dillon checked it out while I was on the phone and was equally stunned, but reassured me that I would still get the item at the advertised price of $129.00. 4/8/25, 10:41 AM Gmail - Online Order Out of Stock. Avoid this store. Poor quality, bad customer service. See attached pictures. I purchased five pieces of furniture from this store in 11/2021, two of them are bad now July, 2023, each of them are around $1000. One is a dresser, and it has two issues: one of the leg is broken off in 1/2023 and drawer handler is broken off. Second is a Queen bed, the drawer is skewed. Call the technical service for the bed once the delivery at 11/2021. They delivered replacing parts twice, but never be able to fix it. I call about the bed again last week (July 2023), they said the case is closed, based on their Technician's evaluations, although I never agreed the issue is closed. The customer services are rude, and cut you off when you are talking, trying to avoid responsibility. Never have experiences with furniture go bad with 1 and half year. We bought leather sofas from Mathis about 8 years ago and had a good experience. Now that we bought a new home and had to furnish it, we returned. We bought a large sectional, two bedroom sets, a large dinner table with buffet and a smaller dinning table. At first, the experience with Nick was great at the store but he made so many mistakes while placing the order in the system that it caused us to loose two days of work and countless hours on the phone. I will only mention a couple here. First, he did not order the correct color on the smaller dinning table so it had to be returned. We noticed before we left the store that he did not put the right color on the order and promised the right color would be delivered. He also ordered the night stands incorrectly. We asked about price match and he spoke to his manager and said they would be able to match it. No money returned for this yet! Last Thursday, they mentioned that it had already been approved but it has not been processed. We also ordered the box spring for the king bed and he only ordered 1twin. 2 are needed to create a king. We had to figure out how to get two from a different store to actually use the bed because they only deliver on Thursdays for my area. The Mathis delivery guys refused to take the 1 box spring when they delivered the correct dinning table on the second delivery day because they did not have an order for it. Nick said they would take it on that day. I also have not seen my money back for this even though Nick promised I would get it back. I have called Mathis many times to try to speak to a manager and waited on the phone for a while and still no manger to try to resolve these issue. First of all, I will never return to this store again! Second, if you happen to go buy from here. Do not leave the store until your order looks correct on the order form no matter what they tell you. If for some reason you do a price match, good luck getting your money returned. I placed my order January 5 and delivery date was January 16. I'm still dealing with these issues. I've shopped here for over 20 years when it was Mathis Brothers. I absolutely love their furniture! However, customer service has changed. Yesterday I noticed the fabric at the bottom of a sofa I purchased about 4 months ago had detached and was drapped down. I called Mathis Home and of course went through the frustrating process of press this for this and press this for that. I choose repairs. I was left on hold for 1hour 41 minutes. I finally chose the option to leave a message. A recording began, but it was saying alphabetical letters as if a glitch. I hung up I and was forced to repair my sofa myself with thumbtacks! I'm a 65 year old senior and could barely rise afterward! I was looking to buy more furniture soon. I absolutely will not buy from Mathis Home anymore! read more

If I can give a negative rating, I will. I spent $10,000 for a dinning table, chairs and sectional sofa set with swivel chair. The service I got was probably worse than DMV. On the morning of the dining table delivery, I got a call saying the table top was damaged so they only delivered the base of the table and the chairs. I notice the hardware was missing so I called to let them know to bring it when the scheduled delivery for the following week. On the second delivery attempt, they supposed to bring the table top and the hardware, plus the sectional sofa set that I ordered in ivory color. Well... the table top didn't come. Worse!!!! The sectional came in grey and the swivel chair in ivory. I talked to different people among dispatch clerk, sales, office manager, etc for many hours. At first, I was going to keep the ivory swivel chair and wait for order again. But they refused to come pick up the grey set which was taking up a lot of space in the entrance (all in boxes). I was told that they can't pick them up until they come for the delivery again. Plus the re-order may take many weeks. So I decided to just return it and have them come pick up in a few days, expecting a refund on the sectional and swivel chair. Few days after they came to pick up, I called to check on my refund. Then someone told me there was a glitch in the system and she verified with me what was picked up. I told her I can email her the paperwork I got from the delivery team when they picked up the couch. I can't believe they don't have a record of it? After I emailed her, I got an email saying the credit is applied to another order with a new sale order generated 2 days after they picked up!!!! What's ?!?!! That is wrong again. I demanded to speak to an office manager who eventually gave a refund. I pretty much had to threaten them that I won't deal with them again and I'll just dispute the charge from my credit card. Ultimately, the office manager wanted to give me a spreadsheet showing me the transactions. Really? I don't need to see how they do accounting. All I know it's I want a refund of the sectional with the exact amount of what I paid. It's not that difficult. Finally the office manager gave me a refund amount close to what I expected. I later checked the amount and they refunded me short of $100. Also, I realized they charger $75 more on the sales tax from my original invoice. But at this point, I don't want to deal with them again and doesn't want to talk to anyone who will someone screw up something else. Lastly, I did get the table top but there's still no hardware. The elite team had to use the hardware that I personally bought from ACE hardware. I regret not reading the reviews first. It appears their problems happened to lots of customers. TLDR: --DO NOT BUY A MATTRESS FROM MATHIS. --DO NOT BUY WARRATIES/365 Dream FROM MATHIS. --DO NOT BUY PURPLE I'll start with this, if you're dead set on buying a Purple Mattress. BUY FROM PURPLE, do not buy from Mathis Brothers. The long version: While we were perusing the store, we stopped at the mattresses. My wife and I weren't in the store for a mattress but decided to take a look since ours is near 10 years old. We've had a softer mattress, and I've always had issues with it since I like a firmer mattress. The salesperson heard that, he then proceeded to sell us on a warranty called 365 Comfort (renamed to Dream 365). He said that for any reason within a year we can exchange the product, no questions asked. I convinced my wife that we should try out the firmer mattress and if she hates it, we can exchange it. The salesperson reassured us that, it's the perfect solution to try it out and we can change our mind later. There are three requirements to get the warranty: Become a member ($140), mattress protector ($150), and pillows ($150). So, $440 (+tax) for the warranty but we would have probably spent about $200 of that anyways for new pillows and mattress protector elsewhere. Sold. First, you can't initiate any warranty exchange until 30 days after delivery (so 365 is actually 335 days). But it makes sense, get your body used to the new bed before making a decision. Second, Mathis' warranty claim process was created in the 80s. After a call to them, they directed me to fill out a PDF form and email photos of the mattress. Why didn't you just take this information off the sales transaction you already have or just ask me while on the phone, and why do you need photos when I'm not claiming any type of issue. After about a week, I had to call back because no one got back to me. Finally, after SEVERAL days of following up, I got a call from someone that was going to schedule the exchange. That's when I get told there is a $310 restocking fee. What? $300 bucks? What did I pay $500 for? I've spoken to 3 people and their CSRs are very well trained at being the iron gate keepers and won't let you pass without paying. So this exchange is going to cost me about $800... the mattress was already $3000! I called Purple to see if they can help, I knew from commercials and on their website, they offer a 100-day trial to exchange or return that includes free shipping. However, the Purple folks couldn't help because of their agreement with Mathis. Draw your own conclusions as to why Purple allows Mathis to treat their customers like this. But seemed like to me that Purple was content with the way things were. Yep, I'm pissed. Mainly at myself for assuming that Mathis' policies would at least match Purple's promise. I'm pissed at myself because I blindly trusted the Mathis salesperson that this exchange would be painless and didn't read everything (but really who does when all your questions were answered). Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. Yield to the warnings that all the other reviews are telling you. They are great salespeople, but after they get your cash (which sometimes can be thousands), they don't care about your repeat business. I should have just bought a Sleep Number. ********* Response to 10/2 Mathis reply: I received the phone number to call from the original salesperson when calling him to initiate the exchange. I was charged $310 restocking fee. You can come to the $800 via everything I've paid to get the mattress I have today (already laid out above) post the $3000 I paid for the mattress in the first place. Membership: $140 Mattress protector: 150 Pillows: $200 Exchange: $310 (300 restocking + recycling fee) No husband in their right mind would agree to knowingly spend $800 on a $3000 mattress to see if their wife would like the firm version of the mattress. They would just buy the softer mattress and save the $800. As stated above, I probably would have spent $200 or so on pillows and a mattress protector elsewhere anyway, so the expected extra cost is $300 for a possible exchange. To get hit with an extra $310 to exercise this is deceptive. Your policies are in disfavor of the consumer when compared to Purple's policies when purchasing directly from them. The fact that Mathis doesn't follow suit is worrisome. The fact that Purple is allowing this is appalling. I'm not sure which is worse. 10/18 Update Mathis response says they have been in contact with me via email to resolve. Uhhh... no you haven't, no communications. I already paid the $310 to complete the exchange. You didn't help resolve anything and now you're faking like you're trying to reach out to me to resolve the issue? I feel like the FTC should be looking into your practices here. read more

So---this is going on about a year now that we bought this sofa. Yes, to their credit, some workers were sent out, after others took and repaired a broken board (within the structure of the sofa), the second repair people added padding to the right side seat cushion. Naturally, it raised (and stiffened) up the sitting position, but feels awkward and unnatural. So there has been an attempt to fix it. But it is laughable to call it even a low quality piece of living room furniture. We have called and asked for a real person to come sit in the couch and experience it. We have a dining set, a beautiful wool and silk rug, and two quality wooden bed room sets that were Mathis purchases, no problems over the past 20 years. BUT This couch has completely soured us on this once reputable, family-oriented brand. We knew them in Oklahoma and they would never have been this cavalier about customer service. The reps from Mathis have declined to come out and instead ask for pictures of the problem. You can't take pictures of a very uncomfortable seat, someone has to SIT on it. I purchased a custom couch 3 weeks ago, spent over $2,000, had to even buy their membership, I was told that I would be receiving an email and updates on my order, i never received any update, when I try to login to my account ( that I definitely did purchase and set up as I have receipts ), why am I not able to get in, when I try the forgot password option I get no email to help me access it. I reached out to the sales department in regards to my order and having trouble accessing the account and I have not received a response in 2 weeks, turns out the sales person that helped does not work there anymore, I sent an email to the sales department so I have no idea why no one else is responding considering I spent over $2000 on a couch! I will never buy anything from Mathis Brothers ever again. Go to Living Spaces or another furniture store. I purchased a custom sofa and two side chairs in August 2023. It's February 2024 and I still do not have the chairs. The design consultant was great. We designed this set for many hours in the store. We looked through several books, fabric swatches and different leg examples. Once we agreed on the esthetic, two managers came over at different times and reviewed the custom order before we checked out, paying in full. The sofa was delivered but the chairs were made incorrectly. The chair fabric was wrong, the style of leg was wrong and the leg color was wrong. I rejected the chair delivery and contacted customer service. Customer service wasn't not helpful. They took information on multiple occasions and never contacted me back. I only spoke to customer service when I reached out. Had I not have called or emailed, I feel they would've forgot about me. Nothing was moving forward until I sent emails to the COO of Mathis Brothers with just about everyone I spoke to on copy. He reached out to me and I finally got some traction. During the call with customer service they explain the chair fabric can be changed but they could not change the legs. At this point we're three months in a new home with minimal furniture. We settled and decided to move forward with the order, allowing them to change the fabric and live with the legs. Today, 2/2/24, Mathis' delivery team attempts to drop off the new chairs (with the wrong colored legs). They ask to exchange the chairs for the old ones. At first I'm shocked and think they're joking. I immediately see he's not joking and asking for the chairs I refused delivery on. The ones I rejected during the initial delivery. He goes outside and calls someone who tells him he cannot deliver the chairs without an exchange. He leaves with my chairs. No heads up. Nothing! I call customer service who proceeds to tell me they need to do an investigation and find the lost chairs before they can deliver the replacements. This service is the worst. I asked for a full refund...return the couch and give me my money back. The rep refused. She said she cannot because she loves her job among many other, non relevant, out of touch things. Again, another failed delivery. I have been waiting for a fix on a broken piece, I received months after initially ordering it! Delivery guys arrive, remove my initially broken furniture piece, preparing to open the "new" item, only to find another broken item sent! This is ridiculous, as a professional you expect professional service, and to receive the items you paid thousands for, to arrive intact. I purchased a bed from Mathis in Irvine seven months ago, which came with a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, the bed is now broken, and despite the warranty, they refuse to repair it. This has been a frustrating experience from the start. Firstly, they sent me the wrong bedside table (buró), and I had to go through the hassle of having it exchanged. This should have been a red flag about their service quality. Now, just seven months in, the bed is already damaged, and their customer service has been unhelpful and dismissive. Despite the warranty, they are unwilling to fix the issue. This level of service is unacceptable. Such a horrible experience with Mathis Brothers. I was in the market for a sectional and I was specifically interested in Jonathan Louis. Googled where I could purchase locally and Mathis Brothers came up. From the moment we entered the door, a salesman was hounding us and following us around the entire time. Not only was that super annoying (we wanted space to discuss our thoughts on the couches....but he was always there), but the salesman was completely incompetent. When we had questions, he just gave us a blank stare or just said he didn't know. Literally it got to the point that he grabbed someone that I assume was higher up since they were dressed nicer and could actually answer basic questions (such as what filling was in what couch). Worst of all, we asked him to find us a tape measure so we could take some measurements. He got us a tape measure that wasn't long enough and in his attempt to "help" us measure, he whipped the tape measure and it snapped on my head. He didn't even apologize when it happened either, he just pretended it didn't happen. From the moment you walk into this place they are in you like a bunch of hungry piranhas with their aggressive and pushy sales tactics. These guys are a bunch of incompetent money hungry sales people who don't know anything about their furniture products. I had to deal with a sales lady by the name of ANDEA who was not knowledgeable on the compatibility of the furniture she was selling -- all she wanted was the sale. Mathis failed to assemble my furniture correctly which resulted in my back being injured. I have called to escalate several times but no one takes any action to resolve my issues. No compassion for their customers what's so ever. They advertise themselves as a luxury store but that couldn't be further from the truth. I have contacted Josh at this location but he has yet to follow up with me either. This place sales a fake illusion so don't fall for it! They talk the talk but can't walk the walk. Really disappointed in Mathis bros. We bought over $10,000 in bedroom furniture and a motorized bed before Covid hit and I guess we were in some sort of rewards program that I didn't even realized that we paid for that too. Well we had a gift card to spend there for over $200. So I finally got a chance to drive all the way to Costa Mesa to use the card and after spending over an hour and a 1/2 there really not finding anything I really needed, I settled on some fake plants to put on the patio. And wow! Even at 40% off they were still not worth it. I could of gotten the same thing at Home Goods for $19.99. Anyway, I was told that I had canceled the rewards program. Which, by the way, I never cancelled it! They said maybe your husband did. NOPE would never happen. I even asked him. And I never received a notice saying it was due. Not an email, text or a phone call. But they said if I pay the $99 now to join the rewards I could use my credit. Well why would I spend $99 just to spend what was left. Besides I am never going there again. Their furniture isn't even that great and some of it is way overpriced for what you get. Not happy having them say we did something we didn't do. Zero Stars! I was a loyal Mathis Brother client, and that all changed today. The high-pressured Gestapo at the door would not take "NO" for an answer when I would not give him my name. I wanted to look at one quick item and be out the door. I keep insisting I don't need a salesperson, and I'm not too fond of the high-pressure sales pitch you insist on doing. Also, I informed the bully that I was a regular and requested to shop without assistance. He wanted no part of that; my job to get your name is insane! I said if you don't leave me alone, I will leave and cancel my Mathis Membership. He said go ahead. So that is precisely what I did. Congratulations! Mathis Brothers, for losing a regular customer who pays for an annual awards membership. Mathis Brothers is your place if you want the high-pressure and constant barrage of a salesperson. We went in to find a sofa with a Chase. The sales woman was extremely pushy and push us into purchasing something that evening and she did not share the sketch with us so when the sofa showed up, the chase was on the wrong side. We paid a big hefty price of $6500 for a piece of junk. When we contacted the company, they told us to go take a hike. they are the worst company, pushy and liar, sales people, and deceitful tactics. I would recommend that you find another place to buy furniture and do not patronize this place as they do not deserve your money. Liars and pressure sales tactics and terrible results.
