I bought a bed frame from the Ontario Mathis, and went to Irvine to look at dressers/nightstands to do a mix/match of things, and Stan was so helpful. He even moved around some night stands to do side-by-side comparisons to the floor model of my bed frame to see how the colors contrasted. I didn't buy anything this visit, but it was such a nice experience and he didn't pressure me to make a decision or buy something right then and there. Overall positive experience! read more

After spending time selecting furniture, we were told the advertised sales price was not actually the price once the manager got involved. I really don't know if it's our sales rep wanting his commission or the management is just bad and will cancel orders but it leaves a poor experience I will say, the "elite" delivery was great. The staff that helped us from Ontario dispatch was great and very helpful. Very efficient duo, though I forgot their names WARNING: If you sign up for the membership, you're automatically enrolled in auto-renewal. You'll have to go through some annoying steps on their site to cancel this process. They don't mention they can sign you up for a non-renewing option When you arrive, you'll get "assigned" a sales rep that will be around to help you if you have any questions. It's kind of awkward as they hang around like you can't notice them or act like they're busy. Gives off creepy stalker vibes. We are in the process of renovating our home and basically looked to furnish our entire home, living room, bedrooms, kitchen, etc. When we were looking to purchase, our sales rep was very friendly and helpful. Even when we told him we wouldn't be ready to receive it for a few months maybe later in the year. He said it's fine, as long as we put in a down payment, they can hold my items for a very long time and that I can pay off the remaining balance when I'm ready to prepare for delivery. That sounded great to us as we really had no place to store items. We ended up purchasing dining sets, bedroom sets, bar sets, and sofa. About $10k as they seemed super accommodating. So we put our down payment 8/31 with expected delivery 11/15 or maybe later depending on our reno progress Fast forward a month later, I get repeated calls from Lauren to pay the remaining balance so they can schedule delivery. On September 29th, I get a text from our sales rep saying Mathis implemented a policy (since the beginning of September) that furniture can only be held for 30 days, but if I pay it off immediately, he'd get his manager to hold it until October. Since the cancellation policy says I would get a full refund since the items have not been delivered, what's my loss, right? So I told him I'd like to stay with our original date since this "policy" took place after our purchase agreement and discussion or he can go ahead and cancel my order, since prices generally change very little over time on their items. I guess he didn't want to cancel it because he kept my original date without paying off my remaining balance. I get another text 10/15 asking to pay off my balance. On Saturday 11/1, he calls me directly to ask for payment and tries to guilt trip me saying, it's going on 3 months now, they have the policy in place, his manager will cancel my order, etc.I tell him go ahead and cancel my order then and I can just re-order myself when I'm ready, no response. Ultimately, I agreed to pay off my balance for the sofa and dining items and to cancel the bedroom items, specifically telling him which items to cancel. Granted it's my weekend and have activities, and he's texting me at 5:30pm asking if I had made payment. He's becoming pushy and rushing me to make payment, so I'm not thoroughly reviewing the order as I trusted him to cancel the right items. Made payment and he immediately went to schedule my delivery for 11/15. Later in the day, upon actually having time to review, items I had asked to keep were gone from order, including the bench as part of the dining set. I asked him to add it back to the original order at the original price, it had gone up in price slightly. He tells me it went up. Yes I know that, but he's the one who removed the item in the first place and the price should be what I had agreed to purchase it at. Barstools went up as well, but in my annoyance, I told him to just leave it off and I'll buy them elsewhere I also asked him to change the delivery to 11/22 because in all this pushiness, I realized I'm out of town 11/15. He goes on to lecture me telling me to make sure to review that the order is correct and that they can't continue to reschedule and they're not a warehouse. Also stating his manager will cancel my order due to demand. At this point, my experience with Mathis Irvine has been a lot of annoyance due to poor communication and customer service. I don't know if it's my sales rep or his manager that's aggressive, but it's pushing me away from being a repeat customer. We thought we would gladly furnish our home entirely at Mathis since we still need bedroom sets and a lot of additional items, but we shall see. The "elite" delivery was great, the Ontario dispatch was on time, efficient, and friendly. Wow, worst purchasing experience of my life. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. Mathis Home does not care about their customers and their sales team works off commission so is only interested in getting you to buy. In fact, check out all the 1 star reviews. Anything higher comes from people who were only browsing and didn't make a purchase. I purchased 2 pillows about a month ago in person at the Irvine location. We originally went in looking to purchase the Purple pillows. The sales associate told us Techno-gel pillows were better. After trying both out, we decided to go with the Technogel. We asked him what the return policy was and he said we were able to test them out and return them if we were dissatisfied. In fact, he said "I always get people returning the purple pillows, but never Technogel." We tried the pillows and decided they were not for us so decided to return them. I came to the store with the pillows only to find out they have a no refund policy for pillows. Which means the sales associate (Issa Yaya) blatantly lied to us about the return policy. The fact that he even invented a story about people returning the purple pillows when you can't even return pillows???? I wasn't able to speak to anyone in store as they said the sleep department returns aren't handled there. I was given a card w a number to call. Essentially, they try to make the process as difficult as possible for you so you lose motivation to try. After speaking the representative, she told me the manager and sales rep told her he never said those things. She then recommended I walk back into the store to try to get in contact with the manager. (No one in the store tried to help with this) George (the manager) wasn't in that day, and I was provided with his direct number. When I spoke with him on the phone a few days ago explaining the situation, he said the best he could do was give me a discount on new pillows. Spend more at Mathis? No thanks. I purchased an ottoman for over $400. It's too large for the space so I called to get a return authorization. After a pick up fee and a restocking fee my refund would be $51.... $51. The ottoman is still in the wrapper it came in. I could return it myself to avoid the pick up charge but the warehouse is over an hour away, I don't have a vehicle large enough and I'm 75 yrs old. If I could give Mathis Home in Irvine a negative rating, I would. This has been the worst furniture-buying experience I have ever had. From the very beginning, there was a lack of transparency. While shopping for couches, I was quoted a member price without being told that membership required an additional fee. I also asked about their advertised extended financing terms, only to find out at checkout that they expected a 40% down payment to qualify, something that was never disclosed upfront. They eventually waived the requirement, but only after I raised the issue. The problems continued after the purchase. I signed up for an extended warranty, and they charged me for it days before the couches were even delivered. When I called and asked not to be charged until I actually received the furniture, they unilaterally decided to cancel the warranty. No one explained that issuing a credit would automatically cancel the coverage or that I would lose the ability to purchase the warranty afterward. I never asked to cancel it, I simply asked not to be billed before delivery. To make matters worse, when I purchased a mattress, they added insurance to my order without my authorization. Had I not carefully reviewed the paperwork, I would have been charged for a service I never wanted. Do not buy a mattress here!! I requested a firm mattress and was convinced to get a medium instead because of the manner in which I sleep. The salesman, Issas, told me that I had one month trial and if it didn't work out, they would exchange it to firm. It's been 2 weeks and it's too soft and causing me pain. I called today and was told that I don't qualify for exchange because I don't purchase a pillow or buy their membership. They NEVER disclosed this to me. (1 Star) I purchased an AS-IS MOTO recliner sectional from the Irvine Mathis Home store through a salesperson named Nader Makdesi. Before purchasing, I specifically asked multiple times about the warranty because recliners are mechanical furniture and can have issues. I was repeatedly told that the sofa came with a 3-year manufacturer warranty. Based on that assurance, I felt comfortable purchasing the item. After delivery and installation, I noticed that the backrest on one corner section would not stay properly secured and kept separating from the frame. The very next day, I returned to the store to ask for assistance. A manager-level employee at the cashier area told me that I needed to contact the manufacturer directly. He also confirmed that there was supposedly a 3-year manufacturer warranty. However, when I contacted the manufacturer, I was told that AS-IS items are NOT covered under warranty and they would not provide any service. So which is it? I was told multiple times before purchase that the item had a 3-year manufacturer warranty, but after the sale, both the store and manufacturer refused to help. Had I known there was no warranty coverage, I would have never purchased this sofa. This experience made me feel completely misled. After reading many other reviews regarding poor customer service, I realized I am not the only customer who has had issues getting support after a purchase. If you decide to shop here, make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. Do not rely on verbal promises regarding warranties or after-sale service. I cannot recommend this store based on my experience. I am following up on a previously posted review from June 2. In my previous review I mentioned all of the ways in which I verified information regarding returning samples swatches to the Irvine California store. First by contacting their corporate office to see if they had any policy about somebody else being able to return swatches on my behalf to which they said they did not. Then they transferred me to the Irvine store to verify what the policy was in case that particular store had a different policy. After speaking to Alexandra at the Irvine store I was informed there was no policy about somebody else returning the swatches on my behalf. I was specifically told it shouldn't be a problem if they weren't trying to receive the credit on their personal credit card but rather on the original form of payment. So to quickly recap I have the corporate office and the Irvine office both telling me there is no policy and procedure that says someone else cannot return the checked out swatches on my behalf! After posting a rather skathing review on Yelp "Rick" from Mathis Brothers posted a reply. While apologetic at first, he went on to say that it was in fact their policy that the person who checked out the swatches must also be the person to return them. As promised in my reply to Rick I reached out to the corporate office one more time today to ask the same question about their policy for returns of checked out swatches. Today their answer was different from the answer I received on Monday. So in this review I have included the two page copy of the contract I signed when checking out the swatches. I can see nowhere on this contract where it says I must be the one to return them. I want to State again that when my friend returned her swatches and I returned mine on a different day, neither of us were asked to present our Identification or the card the deposit was made on. We were simply told the refund would be issued to the card ending in ****. We signed acknowledging the return and that was it. I will be requesting a copy of the policy and procedure manual that specifically States what their policy is. I know some people may find this a rather stupid fight as this point, but now I am fighting on principal and hoping to make a big enough impact on anyone who reads this review, that perhaps they will think twice about doing business with Mathis Brothers. Just think if this is the kind of customer service you get for just returning some sample swatches which were intended for return in the first place, what would happen if you had a problem with a big furniture purchase!!!! read more

The selection of furniture is good, but they need to understand not everyone wants to be followed while shopping. I have even explained to the person that greets you, like a car dealership, we are designers and putting together a few projects and they still hound us. They even have walkie talkies to communicate. 1 star - Completely unacceptable delivery experience. I ordered a bed from Mathis Home, and while the bed was delivered and the job itself was completed, that does not excuse what happened during the process. During delivery, their crew hit my vacuum and broke it. It no longer works at all. The vacuum was fully functional beforehand, so this damage was clearly caused by their team. They did apologize when it happened, but that was the extent of it--no follow-up, no effort to resolve the issue, and no guidance on how to handle the damage before leaving. Now I'm stuck dealing with the hassle of filing a claim for something that was not my fault. I am demanding full reimbursement for the damaged vacuum. Accidents can happen, but taking responsibility means actually resolving the problem, not just saying sorry and leaving. If this is not resolved quickly, I will be escalating this further. Back in early November, I placed an order with Mathis Brothers, Irvine, including a sofa priced solidly into five figures. The delivery date was 8-12 weeks. Twelve weeks came and went, so we called the store. They said another 8 weeks. Meanwhile, I can't use part of my house because there's no furniture. I referred the problem to our interior decorator, who helped us pick out the furniture and who does a lot of business with Mathis Brothers. After four days, she finally got a snotty response from Matt, the manager. I'm attaching a screenshot of the response, so potential customers will see what kind of customer service they can expect. They act reasonable when they sell you the furniture, but once the purchase is done, the customer service is horrendous. I worked with one of the designers, Robin. Horrible experience from the start. I was excited at first, but her designs were poor and she had no idea how to be a good sales person. I was originally going to purchase a large amount of furniture, but decided to only buy the bare minimum pieces that I wanted. I ended up buying the rest of my furniture (more than 20k worth) at another store due to much better customer service. The nightmare continues after delivery. All pieces had defects and when I called customer service, they were not helpful. They told me to call the sales rep for replacement as this was a special order. I tried contacting Robin for help but she was "too busy" and she never reached out again to check in afterwards. Again, her actions really show her character. I also talked to the manager George, who was also trash. He Asked me to send some photos and completely ignored me afterwards. I then decided to contact numerous customer service reps and they kept on telling me they would "call back" and never did. At this time, I still have not resolved the issue for replacement or compensation for the damaged furniture. What a horrendous experience. For such high end speciality furniture, I expected better. We couldn't find the sofas we wanted, so we decided to have custom sofas made through their custom furniture shop, choosing a design by Four Hands. We were told that since they were custom, it would take several months, which we were completely fine with. Initially, things went smoothly. Some of our other furniture arrived as scheduled, and even when a few items were scratched during our move-in, Mathis handled the repairs quickly. We were optimistic and satisfied -- but that's where the good experience ended. Months passed with no updates about our custom sofas. I eventually called the store and was told we were still about a month away from delivery. Disappointed but understanding, we waited again -- still with zero communication from Mathis. After three months, I followed up once more, only to learn our original custom representative no longer worked there. Fortunately, she helped connect us to someone else at Mathis. We were then told it would be several more weeks -- now more than three and a half months since our purchase. To make things worse, we had also requested fabric swatches for planning other décor, and those took nearly four months to arrive. Only after multiple unreturned calls and a few frustrated messages did we finally get the attention of a sales manager named Babor. He told us he was one of their most tenured employees and promised to make things right -- offering a "huge discount" for the delays and poor service. A week later, we finally received the swatches, but the sofas were still nowhere in sight. We continued speaking with both Babor and our original sales associate Nick, who assured us repeatedly that we'd be "taken care of" for all the inconvenience. I even suggested that instead of compensating us directly, they could make a donation to one of our charitable events. They agreed in principle -- but as soon as the sofas were delivered, communication stopped entirely. No follow-up. No compensation. No donation. No returned calls. It has become clear that Mathis Home Irvine was simply stringing us along to delay or prevent us from posting an honest review. So here it is: Buyer beware. The service may seem exceptional when you walk through the door and have money to spend, but once your purchase is complete, don't expect communication, accountability, or follow-through. Honestly hated my experience here. It felt like a car dealership but for furniture. The sales staff wouldn't even allow me and my husband to look around and talk freely amongst each other without someone walking up trying to make a sale. It was so uncomfortable. From the literal second we walked in to the second we left we were approached. One of the many sales employees who was adamant at helping us, literally followed us around the entire store and when we decided we were too uncomfortable to continue browsing, we started walking towards the exit. She noticed us doing so and proceeded to walk fast to the desk next to the exit door. We saw her and kept walking towards the other exit. She FOLLOWED US to the other exit door while pretending to be on a phone call and immediately just hung up to give us her card and info. I will never be going back here. I placed an online order expecting a professional delivery and product quality that matched the branding. Be very careful with these people. we purchased a high end recliner on June 2 with an absolute guarantee in writing that it was in stock and guaranteed delivery on June 7th. When I called on June 5yh to confirm, they said it had not been in stock and delivery would be around July 27th. There were four of Mathis Bros personnel involved in the transaction, and they all knew this. We had been lied to. When I wrote the review a gentleman named Rick S there business manager left a not on Yelp stating that If I emailed him the information. I got response by email from a woman named Christy, asking me to provide more detail. I did, and since then I have heard nothing from them. Posting another review on this company. I posted an earlier review on how terrible the service was on this mattress that I bought from them and after more pictures and more jumping through hoops. The response that I finally got back from them was that they were going to exchange it for another identical mattress. I have really had it with this company. They are absolutely relentless and denying any good service to a customer. I think I'm going to move on to the Better Business Bureau now. I bought a very expensive adjustable bed from Mathis Brothers. I was having problems. Mathis Brothers said it was out of warranty. I was willing to pay for someone to come out and look at it. They said no, once it's out of warranty, I would have to get a third party to take care of it. Mathis said that once the warranty was done their commitment to the product was done. In October of '24, we purchased a very nice Bernhardt sofa and love seat with the extended warranty. After 5 months, the recliner wasn't working. Mathis came by to fix it. In December, it stopped working again. Mathis had me call GBS, the company that fixes their furniture. It has been 10 days since I called them, NO ONE has returned my call. I spent over $5,000 for the sofa and warranty. If it is not fixed soon, I would like to have it replaced with a new one. The few times I've come here, an employee greets you at the door and then follows/stalks you around the store the entire time you are there. Each time I've come here, I hope they have stopped doing this, but they have not. This practice is absolutely awful, creepy, and annoying. My most recent visit was today, and I can say with virtual certainty that we will not be buying anything from the store because of this. Stalking customers around the store like a lion stalking a zebra is a completely unacceptable business practice unless the customer specifically requests that. Other reviews effectively state the same thing- CUSTOMERS DO NOT WANT TO BE FOLLOWED/STALKED while shopping. The worst part is that responses from store management on Yelp insist that this is acceptable because the store is big and customers like it. We are adults and are perfectly capable of self-navigating a furniture store (as are virtually all other adults). And it's effectively a lie to say that customers like being followed, as evidenced in the reviews here on Yelp which state the complete opposite. Also, potential customers should never have to ask anyone to not follow/stalk them. I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from shopping at this store. But you should be aware that if you do decide to shop there, you will be followed/stalked by an employee the whole time you are there. read more

Simply put, buyer beware....I have been a customer of Mathis Bro's for many years, I went in and purchased two power recliners and made the transaction and sat with salespeople and updated my delivery address ( As I had recently moved) I set a delivery date and this is where everything started to go wrong. On the day of delivery, they called me and said the recliners were not in the warehouse to deliver. Hoping to get to get them delivered in the next couple of days, nope 4 days later they set the delivery day. I did not get a call the night before which is quite common in the furniture delivery world.. On the day of delivery I got a text message to confirm delivery location and...... you guessed it they tried to deliver it to my old address. I called the delivery team to see if they could deliver it to the correct address 10 miles up the road from my prior address. (The address I had confirmed when I bought it in store). They told me it was too far as they had other deliveries. I asked could you deliver it the following day, nope, another 4-5 day wait for delivery. I asked to speak with a sales manager and they said one was not available and they would promptly call me back....you guessed it, no call back. So I drove to the store in Irvine and cancelled the order, processed a refund and severed all ties with Mathis Bros Home in Irvine. I will say when I went in store management was sympathetic, professional and wanted to help, but simply put things went pretty bad up to that point and trusting them further was not something I felt comfortable with. Well, now I have slept on my Intelibed for several months. First of all, it seemed to me to be narrower than a regular queen so I measured it. It is 56" wide, instead of the normal 60" wide. I knew that it felt narrower. Then, the way it is constructed, when I sleep on the side I feel like I will roll off. The edges do not seem supported. But most of all, it is too hard. When I was shopping for a bed, I told the sales person that I like a soft bed. He pointed me toward the Intelibed because he said that's what he had and he loved it. (Now I'm wondering if he just wanted to get rid of this bed). But when I read the official promo material for the bed, it was originally intended to be sold on prescription for those who wanted a firm, supportive bed. When I lay on it at the store, it felt like it really cradled the body. And I think for someone who sleeps flat it may do so. However, I always sleep with my head elevated. There is a lumbar control and that helps a little, plumps up the bed in the lumbar section, but I still feel hard places here and there. Also I tend to slip down during the night, and in the morning I sometimes wake up with my feet hanging off the end. I think this bed only works for someone who sleeps flat. In any event, since I paid $7,000 for the bed, I am not a happy camper. I do not recommend this bed. The fact that it is 4" narrower than queen size really ticks me off. I bought this bed on the very enthusiastic recommendation of the sales person. Well, I may never want to spend the money on another bed, but if I do, I would give much less credit to anything the Mathis sales person says. I also bought a reclining loveseat and that is exactly what I wanted, and was a reasonable price somewhat on sale. So 1-1 for me and Mathis. I am wondering if ownership at this place changed some time in the recent past. My friends who bought here were very satisfied with what they bought and did not have the same experience I did. Very deceptive company. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THEIR MEMBERSHIP, i was deceived by 2 of their employees, the first was the sales person who swore I would not be set up on auto pay, the second one by the customer service representative who assured me I was not enrolled in any auto pay at the end of her call a few months later, only to just get a message that my card was charged for the membership 1 year later. COMPLETE GARBAGE!!!! I will rant on to BBB and all social media platforms until I am refunded both the first year and second year of membership. My sales rep was nice but lacked product knowledge and personality. Had no concerns about my needs, just wanted to know if I wanted to finance and when I can pay. If it weren't for her manager and 2 other reps who assisted me, I wouldn't have purchased. I wish one of the reps who actually had input would have gotten the credit for the sale. I didn't feel excited after leaving. We all have room for improvement, and she needs a lot. read more

I am incredibly frustrated with the level of customer service I experienced. Initially, when the sales representative, Ati, was trying to sell us $12,000 worth of furniture, she went above and beyond. However, after we finalized the purchase, she did not keep her promise to show up at the delivery time, nor did she answer any of our calls. It felt as if we had never existed. Less than a month later, the $1,100 cocktale table started peeling, and since I had purchased a warranty, I needed to exchange it. This led to an exhausting back-and-forth between the Mathis store and the GBS claims department. It felt like a full-time job, as I was calling them every day, staying on hold, and trying desperately to get assistance. The entire experience was unbelievable. At one point, I spoke with a store manager named Mady, who stated on a recorded call that she would provide us with store credit/full refund since the exchange table was defective as well. I even received a confirmation number from her. However, when I called a week later for a status update on the store credit, no one knew who Mady was. I have had the worst experience of my life, I ordered a couch from them Bernhardt expensive couch, I needed a certain size for my room they recommended a ALL PROTECTION warranty. $649. It was an off white couch so we decided to go for the price.. Of course received the couch March 15.I was wearing a pair of Black silk pants that transferred on to the pillow and down the front of the couch, June 15th. The experience from then on was a nightmare it is now September 2. They have sent technician 3 times. Have a skin as they call it came in wrong, no piping. They accuse me of lying that it had no piping, the guy came to install it he said they didn't give him enough time, the technician also said that it is on the piping of the other cushion. Now they won't approve the other cushion because you can't see it in the photos. I am so tired of this they just were you down. Mathis Bros won't do anything to help me!!!!! Never will I buy anything from them in my life. P.S. the technician is not come till Sept 19 then 6 weeks to order!!!!!! Then install if they even do a good job at that it will be Christmas before I see anything!!!! read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! We bought a bed frame from this place, location nice and sales team was great. That's all that is good about this place cause the rest is a nightmare! You have to get a membership to this place to even buy any furniture here which is annoying but fine. Then once done we had our furniture opted for delivery and that was a huge mistake!!! Furniture got delivered to the wrong address on Thursday which was a nightmare as I got a day off of work to make sure this was done. They delivered it to the WRONG ADDRESS!! Then when calling the store they hung up on me twice. Then when they finally got someone to help us we got it supposedly delivered for today Saturday so we made time to make sure we were home. We called the store to confirm come to find out they didn't even reschedule us at all. My husband called and they explained they were sorry and can deliver it on Tuesday but before he confirmed he wanted to confirm the right address before hanging up and IT WAS WRONG AGAIN!!! Walked in with my boyfriend looking for a new couch. We were greeted but not listened to by an older man who wasn't the friendliest or the most patient with us. We have an idea of what we want and we know its going to take customizing but he kind of had an" oh well, we don't have that" attitude. He left us alone but then was watching us like a hawk... we were then helped by "Little Joe" who listened, advised, and suggested all great options.
