I was considering going back to a gym since things were getting "normal" and opening again but wasn't sure if I was ready to commit to my former commercial gym. I trained with Mayra and I absolutely loved her energy and how encouraging she was during my workouts. I have always been a gym member. A few years I decided to take it to the next level. Matador Performance Center was the place I decided to get started. It is a trainer only gym so the one on one sessions are what I liked about it. I had a great talk with my trainer. He understood what I wanted to achieve and we came up with a plan. He is very experienced and knows when he can push me and when to ease off. I wanted to build strength and get stronger and I am on my way to reaching those goals which is very exciting! The gym itself is amazing and well maintained. It is a big facility with natural light coming in through big garage doors. It has all the equipment you could possible need for boxing, HITT, conditioning and weight training. There is a parking lot and street parking too. There are water stations and towels for clients too. There is a great vibe here too. Great music and there is a great mix of people at the gym. It's great to see so many different people old and young working on their fitness goals. I have gotten to know some of the other amazing trainers who are super friendly and encouraging too. I am normally not the type of person that is compelled to write reviews for anything, but it would be a huge disservice to the stellar service that is Matador Performance Center if I didn't sing their praises. I am a cameraman by trade, and have struggled with back ailments for years due to the wear and tear from the physicality of the work. I was looking for a place where I could hire a personal trainer. Matador Performance Center met and exceeded every single one of my expectations by leaps and bounds. First, I was matched with an amazing trainer that took into account the physical disadvantages that my back issues presented, as well as the lack of education I had in training my body over the years. I've never managed to comfortably find a workout routine that I can consistently do, because frankly, I didn't really know what I was doing. My trainer at Matador took the time to understand and evaluate my limitations, and patiently designed a workout plan that ultimately turned my limitations into advantages. After a year of working with my trainer, not only is my back stronger, but I now have established a workout routine that has propelled me forward into a life of physical fitness that I never imagined was possible for someone like me. The facilities are fantastic, robust in varied choices of workout equipment that never lets you get bored, and everything is absolutely spotless and clean. I found this place via Groupon and I'm so glad I did!!! I have been searching for a place nearby to help to continue motivating me. I've been to another studio-type gym even closer but their customer service just felt FORCED. (Automated texts and calls) These places aren't cheap, but if I'm going to drop some cash, I want to vibe w/ the staff and establishment. Matador Performance Center exceeded my expectations. I knew from the first phone call I had with Joseph that I was going to stick around longer to see what they were all about. Maria called a few days after to ask me a few questions so she could pass them along to Joseph and he'd match me with a trainer. What got me the most was him following up while he was still trying to set up a match. I felt like I was more than just someone who had a voucher to redeem. Every contact felt genuine. That alone is priceless. He matched me w/ Brandi and I'm so glad he did. During the first session as she was testing some of my abilities, I knew we were meant to be when she stated "Oh I'm gonna have some fun with you!" Lol. She has continually pushed me when I felt I couldn't go on anymore or was just lazy and she saw through my BS. ;) We have just completed the voucher and I'm more than happy to continue working w/ Brandi. I'm looking forward to all that I can learn from her so I can feel confident going a gym myself and not get hurt. This isn't your regular type gym. You cannot workout here w/out a trainer. Each trainer has their prices they charge. Yes, it can be intimidating, but give it a try. Let me start off by saying how much I Truly Love & Appreciate this gym. This is a personal training gym only, with that being said, I began to workout with my Trainer Raffi 2 years ago. This gym has become my second home. I have seen it expand, which is great because Joe (Owner) has added some awesome equipment. Whether your workouts consist of high intensity intervals, cardio or strength training, this gym has the space and equipment for you. I especially appreciate the personal touches such as; towel service, water dispenser as well as the most thoughtful Women's restroom, which Maria (gym manager) stocks up with all the essentials, Us girls, may need. The other trainers & clients are friendly & super encouraging, which makes for a great gym environment! Overall in the 2 years I've been here, I've lost 105lbs and 135lbs over all. I have been to many gyms across Los Angeles, and trained with many private trainers. I am so happy with my current gym and trainer, going to my workouts has become the highlight of my week. I train with David Yeung, twice a week. Since I have started I have noticed a huge difference in my strength and agility. David keeps my workouts fun with a combination of full body conditioning, strength training, and kickboxing. The gym facility is literally one of the best that I have ever seen. The place is around 15,000 SF, lots of equipment for people who enjoy HIIT, full body conditioning, boxing, physical therapy, basketball, and weight lifting. They have literally everything you need. The best part is all the open space to bear crawl, jump rope, stretch, box. Most regular gyms fill up their space with rows and rows of cardio machines and TVs, but no real place to move. This place is spacious, with natural light and air coming in from multiple roll up garage doors. The owner is a great guy. Joe called me personally to address my concerns. I always see young, old, big, small, people of all races. It makes me happy to see we are all working towards the same thing, and that is optimizing our health. My favorite part about this gym is the state-of-the-art equipment and endless workout varieties you can do with them. As someone who has only been going to corporate gyms my entire life, I was in awe when I saw all the cool (and clean!) tools, like isolated leg press machines and dedicated hip thrust benches. They even have an electric basketball return machine and sandbags. From my understanding, it is the largest private gym in the San Gabriel Valley. You need to have a trainer to use the facility. At peak hours, you see 1:1 trainer to trainee sprawled out throughout the gym and it's a very motivating atmosphere. I've had about 10+ sessions with my current trainer, Mayra, and it has been amazing. She's been understanding of my goals - and has been working closely with me so that I can be body ready for my wedding! I am not the hardcore workout type and I usually dread doing any kind of physical activity... but Mayra makes me enjoy my workouts. I am always surprised when I show up to my sessions because she is so creative with her sets. I never leave a session sweat-free. Don't even bother spending your money at another fitness facility. Matador Performance Center is where you need to be! It is an awesome facility, with an amazing array of equipment. My favorite is the apparatus that has "monkey" bars, a cargo net, and a peg board. You can find me on this apparatus practicing my Ninja training! Just about all of the trainers are great, but I have personally trained with Michael Jennings and Francis Rivera, who are both awesome. I have also had neuro-muscular therapy sessions with Johnny Tea and Russell Mano. These trainers are great when it comes to personalizing your routine for your needs. The best part about Matador is the diverse population that trains there. Every day there are elderly people as well as kids, people who are overweight, those who are athletic, people who are beginners, people with physical and developmental challenges, as well as every race/ethnicity. Mayra is a life-changer! Started working out here after a stressful quarantine full of too much uncertainty, wine, and bread. I wanted to get healthier -- but wasn't sure where to start. So I started where I'm sure most uncertain people start....with a Groupon. :) Maria & Joseph chatted with me about my fitness goals, then partnered me up with Mayra. Honestly, it was the perfect pairing. Six months later, for the first time in my adult life, I love working out! I really wanted to build strength, so we've been focusing on weights and conditioning. I've learned so much from Mayra, and am able to apply those skills and confidence whenever I work out on my own. My body looks totally different, every time I look in the mirror I see a new muscle popping out. I can honestly say I've never gotten these results with any trainer I've worked with before her. One of the many things I appreciate about most about Mayra is she makes it easy to stay consistent without feeling like you are on some crazy hamster wheel. Basically, she makes it challenging but still fun! I went from not even being able to carry a few bags of groceries upstairs, to carrying a heavy ass chair up those same stairs all by myself. I've been with my trainer, Santos, for over a year now and have gotten great results. The owner of the facility, Joe, is awesome. Even though I'm not his client he always welcomes me and chats with me when I come in. He also regularly asks me if the facilities are good and if there is anything to improve on. Of course, I tell the gym is perfect and I'm a happy customer. The gym has a variety of equipment ranging from basic cardio (treadmills and ellipticals) to battle ropes, squat racks, bench-presses, and free weights. There's also a new air resistance weight machine that's state of the art and a whole side room devoted to Olympic weightlifting and classes. Overall, I don't think there is anything you can ask for in a gym that this place doesn't have. read more

Ok I have been here for 6 mos , working out with Mr Jed Dennis, when I first started I could not get up or down onto the floor to workout. But now I can and have strengthen my legs so I can walk more than 20 mins. Now I can do 40 easy. I was always going to doctors a ppointments trying to find what was wrong with me .After talking to Jed Dennis and learned that maybe my body just needed to get fit would help . so that's what I did . Found this place through instagram, and boy am I glad I did. Such a wonderful gym to work out in and the trainers there are so wonderful and very precise. The staff and gym in general are all great too, and it's clean and a happy environment which most gyms are not. One trainer in particular who is fantastic (and I'm being biased) is Rudy, he's really helped up my fitness to another level, and for that I am so grateful. He's kind, on top of his game, pushes and motivates me to always get to the level I want to be at. Joseph the owner set me up with a personal trainer named Michael Wood who is such a positive and enthusiastic person. I couldn't be happier with my trainer Mike Cavan. A year later and I am still working out 2 x week. Mike is 100% engaged and he customizes every session to meet your goals. I been have working with my trainer Ryan of sgvFIT for over 3 years now at this location. It is a private training studio and a welcome departure from when I trained with Ryan at a Corporate gym. Every trainer has their own rates and style of training but the facility itself is nice. There are squat racks, weightlifting platforms, free weights, heavy bags, bumper plates, treadmills, steel plates, turf for sled push/pulls, basically everything your trainer needs to kick your butt. It has been recently renovated and I believe there are plans to expand the location into the vacant space next door. The studio offers clean, fresh towels to everybody who trains at the facility and the trainers get along well. Since the training studio is only open for trainers to work with their clients, it does not get as crowded as a corporate gym, so I maintain a separate membership for days without my trainer. Overall, it is good place to workout once you have hired a trainer who trains out of this space. I recommend Ryan of sgvFIT for your training needs. read more

I've had memberships to all the big-name gyms in so cal over the last twenty years hoping one would be better then the last, but I was never satisfied. It was always the same old crowded, hot, dirty place with uninterested staff and managers who don't seem to care about you once you've signed the contract. I finally found Matador Performance Center through a friend and have been training here for the last 5 years and plan to stay. I can honestly say this is the BEST and the most WELL-RUN gym that I've ever been to. No doubt it is because the owner is always on the premises and oversees operations. He is constantly making upgrades and improvements...even when it doesn't appear to be needed. The facility is extremely clean, modern, and has a motivating feel to it. A nice variety of new machines, free weights, cardio and exercise equipment. The mutual respect and camaraderie between the owner, the trainers, and the clients is obvious and refreshing to see. Each time I visit, my trainer makes me feel right at home and hands me a clean, white, Downey- fresh workout towel. What other gym does that?? I have had 3 different trainers here and they all have a passion about health and fitness and seem to truly care about my personal fitness goals and helping me reach them. It's also nice that they have never coerced or pressured me into training beyond what my budget and schedule allows. No long- term or complicated contracts either. I'd been going to Matador to work out with Joe for over a year when all this quarantine stuff started. I was really happy when they could open up again. Again I was so impressed with Joseph's professionalism! The amenities are great, as usual (plenty of space for everyone to do their thing, using any sort of equipment - you can do whatever you can dream up here without getting too close to anyone else - as well as fresh air and nice A/C), but the COVID adaptations couldn't be better. We all go through a thorough health check before being allowed to enter, and inside you can tell that this place is even cleaner than it always was before! I was noticing the freshness of the carpet and asked if it was new, but no, it turns out the brightness is a result of all the cleaning and disinfecting going on. Matador has been great for my 75 year old body. Joseph (the owner) paces my workouts according to what I can do (after a lifetime of dedicated laziness) and pushes me just right every time (4 more, honey!) - always more than I intended but just what I can handle. He even has special face shields that you can actually breathe with! I hope the Governor reverses his decision about gyms soon, because this is one of the safest places I can imagine going these days! After all, one gym does not ever equal every other gym. read more

the gym is quite nice and fitted with all sorts of neat gadgets that ive not seen before, in spite of years of personal training at both private gyms and 24 hour fitness. they have a good mix of cardio/crossfit/torture devices... JK! its a great gym, with nice changing rooms, lockers and clean bathrooms although i do wish they had seat covers. oh and their water tastes great! its a good filter they use :D they also have clean towels for your use. read more

My review is only for the "personal trainer" I worked with, Jesse Youngblood. After halting my runs due to a torn meniscus I seeked Jesse out. I paid in full for 2 sessions to start. I stressed to him that I wanted to work on my abs and all we did was weights and arm exercises. What really upset me was when I had to re-sched our session and he charged me for a session! He NEVER informed me of his cancellation/resched policy and freely took my money. Shame on him for taking my money without services rendered. Poor business ethic. read more

I suffer from chronic L4 L5 disc degeneration & was recommended to increase my level of physical activity to better manage pain through a professional exercise program in order to safely regain strength & flexibility. I heard about Matador Performance through a friend & being that the gym is conveniently located I called them. At first I was unsure about trusting & hiring a trainer; never trained with a trainer before however the staff at Matador were extremely helpful with lots of information, they gave me a tour of their private facility & even offered to pair me with the right trainer. I'm currently in my 6th month at Matador Performance . My trainer put together a program that centered on strengthening my core & lower back to help with the pain. Although my lower back still seizes up, I experience less frequent episodes of pain. My trainer made me feel very comfortable & quickly earned my trust; he demonstrates & explains in great detail every exercise, always stretches me before & after each workout; so far I haven't experienced any pain as a result of my training. From the start he provided me with a detailed plan of how to reach my goals & so far we have met many of them. I have been working out at this gym for a little over a year now and I have 0 complaints. Everyone there is always polite and is always in an energetic mood. It really motivates you to want to improve. I first started working out there because of my trainer johannes, and I gotta say this gym only improved his workouts because there was so much more we could do! And even now that I'm pregnant I've been working out there with him and have still been continuing to contain my goals.
