Great gym/bootcamp in Pasadena that has a nice family feel. A former trainer of another gym that I had gone to was working here and told me to come check it out. I signed up for the 5 day pass on the website and got a few texts from the owner and a trainer inquiring about my goals. I started this week and did 4 out of the 5 days. Each class was a different body part and I had a different instructor each time, each with their own style and music. The class is 5 8 minute stations with 2-3 exercises per station. You either do a certain set of reps or 45 secs to 1 minute per rep. You can choose to do certain exercises if you want to get lean or you can switch off between. Overall the classes were good and really kicked your butt. Some exercises I was not used to and didn't feel as natural, but still made you sweat. I haven't checked out the "kick boxing" room, just worked out in the main room. They have morning classes, then open gym in the afternoon and then resume classes in the late afternoon. There are two restrooms - no showers, which they are supposed to get after they take over next door in 6+ months. Overall a great gym to get a real hardcore workout. Some of the instructors are better than others, but not really sure how its scheduled since I had a different one every time. I might consider joining once they got the showers in order and maybe added some hand sanitizer stations! Membership is about $129 per month, but you can do $15 drop ins whenever you want, which is cool.

TL;DR: Joining hardcore fitness has been the best decision I've ever made! Great trainers, clean gym, with the best equipment and classes! I've know the owners Carmen and Jovan awhile before joining by doing a pop-up here and one thing that never left me was the friendly environment they have between members and trainers. I decided to finally join in December of 2020 to enter into the new year beginning on my fitness journey. It's now March of 2021 and I have seen more results than I have working out on my own (down over 18lbs!) They have HIIT style classes and bootcamp style classes to help you reach your goals. I recommend doing one of their 60 day challenges where you get a personalized meal plan and workout schedule to help you reach your goal. It's never a core coming in to workout anymore, seeing regular members and working with the trainers really makes it like a second family! I also appreciate the fact that the owners take our health into consideration by requiring masks for everyone in the gym, requiring temperature checks for everyone, as well as the use of sanitizing wipes between workouts (they also sanitize after every class). Definitely give this place a try if you are ready to meet your goals!

Funtimes with the HCF PASADENA Family!

I have been with HCFP for a little over two years now. This is the only gym that I have utilized consistently, EVER!! They are a smaller gym but they definitely give the big boys a run for their money. The trainers are very knowledgeable and friendly. The owners are very approachable and always remember your name as does the front desk staff. They have BootCamp, Fight Camp, (great for stress relief btw), personal training, (one on one, partner, and small group sessions), LiveStream workouts in the event you want to workout at home or on the go, as well as different challenges throughout the year. They have done a great job adapting to the current guidelines. They are extremely diligent in following the current covid restrictions. They practice social distancing, require temperature taking on entry, mask wearing at all times by staff and members, and they provide antibacterial wipes to wipe down all equipment. The workouts are varied and challenging but definitely doable. I also love that the other members are welcoming to all. If you are interested in meeting a great group of people while getting fit and having fun... hit them up and tell them Jackie sent you Oh and did I mention the ProShop has yummy nutritious meals, snacks, drinks, and supplements for your enjoyment

I wanted a gym where I could focus on strength training as its own discipline rather than blending it into a CrossFit or Hyrox-style workout. Just as importantly, I wanted consistent coaching and feedback so I could continue improving. I've tried classes at several other gyms in the area, but Rose City Barbell aligns perfectly with my current goals: learning proper strength movements, understanding progressive overload, and following thoughtful, well-structured programming. The coaching emphasizes building a strong foundation, proper technique, and sustainable progress. I never leave feeling beaten up or wondering how to get stronger--I leave knowing exactly what I'm working toward. As someone who is only five months removed from a major abdominal surgery, I'm especially grateful to have found this community. The coaches have helped me rebuild my strength safely and confidently. My favorite coaches are Kim and Sionann. Kim has an incredible eye for technique and always knows when to challenge me. She's the coach who points to the heavier dumbbells and says, "You can totally do that," when I would never have considered picking them up myself. Time and again, she's been right. Her attention to detail is exceptional, from movement cues to recommending the right footwear (or no footwear) for specific lifts. Sionann is equally skilled when it comes to coaching technique and providing effective cues. She has a gift for encouraging people to give their best effort, even on the mornings when they'd rather coast through the workout. She somehow manages to bring energy, positivity, and fun to every class--even at 6 a.m. Her encouragement helps everyone move better, work harder, and leave feeling accomplished. If you're looking for a gym that prioritizes strength, excellent coaching, and long-term progress, I can't recommend Rose City Barbell highly enough.

Just thoughtful programming, sharp feedback, and the right kind of pressure to grow. She knows how to meet me where I am and still expect more. What really sets her apart is how well she reads personality. She gives structure when I need it, honesty when I need it, and space to be vulnerable without making it weird. I've been able to talk openly about what feels hard, physically and mentally, and she responds with strategy, not fluff. I'm stronger, yes. But more importantly, I feel more capable in my body. And we make it fun!!! If you want smart coaching that respects your brain as much as your muscles, she's it.

I like Equinox, mostly because it's the only gym I've ever been able to go to consistently. I'm in…read morePasadena and I pay $240/month. Mine doesn't have a pool. I think whether it's worth it really depends on how you use it. If you're just using it like a normal gym, it's obviously way overpriced. But if you actually take advantage of the classes and amenities, it is worth it. The floor Pilates classes are free but the reformer classes are extra. The classes are really high quality with good instructors. For me especially because I hate packing stuff and they provide everything you need for all classes. Even for yoga, you don't have to bring anything. You just show up and they have mats, bolsters, blankets, and everything is clean and ready to go. For me personally, I use it as an escape because I can hit the steam room and take a shower sort of like a spa pass. They provide all the bath products too. I'm not a huge fan of the products themselves, they are drying kind of like hotel products,, but at least they're there, so I don't have to think about packing anything. Another thing is that it removed a lot of barriers because they provide towels, which are always clean and fluffy (and I don't have to wash). I can show up in workout clothes with a water bottle and everything else is provided. As with any gym, though, it's not worth it if you don't actually use it. It's also not a huge social scene, which might be a downside for some people but is an upside for me. I can go work out without worrying about having to talk to people or have awkward interactions around equipment. There aren't tons of people taking selfies or clogging up machines and walkways. It also doesn't get super crowded, which I think is partly because of the price point. Those are all huge pluses for me, but I'm on the more introverted side and just trying to work out, not update my social media or make new friends at the gym. I'm basically paying to remove barriers that usually prevent me from going to regular gyms, plus the classes are quality. I don't have to wait for equipment or deal with a bunch of little obstacles that make me less likely to go. They validate parking, which is another big plus. Between the parking, classes, towels, showers, and amenities, there are basically no barriers. The customer service is also really good, I've never had an unpleasant interaction on my way in or out at the front desk, so the whole experience is low stress. I used someone's referral code from here when I joined and got a gift shop credit/didn't have to pay the initiation fee. Everyone I know has been able to join without paying the invitation fee, so don't pay it, they will find a way to waive it because they want your business. I used someone else's link from reddit, but it got taken down. It got the fee waived and I got a credit, so I'm posting my link in case it helps someone else. https://equinox.com/referrals/003A000001TO5GKIA1 Bottom line is it's worth it if it actually gets you to go or you're already paying for classes somewhere else. If you're already paying for yoga classes somewhere else, that's probably close to $100 a month by itself, and you usually don't get all the extra amenities. For me, the biggest value is that it removes barriers and makes it easy and low stress so I don't avoid it. Having everything provided and not having to plan or prepare makes me much more likely to go consistently and yeah, I could save money and go somewhere else, but I wouldn't go, thus my Equinox membership.

I went here exactly once and the Pasadena Equinox is so bad quality and had such horrendous service…read morethat it was enough for me to immediately reach out to GM and Equinox corporate management to request canceling my Equinox membership effective immediately. I've been an Equinox member on and off since 2013 -- and had great experiences at SF Union, SF Pine St, NYC locations, Tyson's and Glendale -- and never again. The Pasadena Equinox deviates from Equinox's documented general corporate policies and expect you to know this despite no signs, no notification and no advance notice (mentioning to members at check-in, etc.) The women's bathroom staff were extremely rude, unevenly applying their policies to prevent people in towels from entering shower and knocking on showers mid-shower to demand people exit mid-shower and saying "it's their policy and we should know" Note no manager was on duty -- I asked to speak to someone during gym business hours and there was no one at the gym to speak to -- and my email to the GM regarding this is unanswered. I'm attaching screenshot of Equinox's corporate policy regarding this -- Pasadena is not in line with the Equinox policy, which is 15 mins before close; not 30 -- and Pasadena doesn't document this anywhere. I can't wait to figure out another gym to support instead ASAP.

Committing to just one gym is difficult when each person goes through their productive, creative, or hibernation periods. I've wanted a place that made me look forward to going and not finding reasons to skip out. After some time with ClassPass, a 45-day workout challenge and a dozen-full of memorable buddy pass classes later, I finally made a decision I've been happy with since. Basecamp for the win. Love their lower to upper to full body workout schedule, the alternation between cardio and strength, the change/rotation of class layouts, their equipment, and of course, the instructors and team themselves. Special appreciation for the 9am goers because they became a solid community for me when I was going through some post-grad life transitions and turbulence. Somehow, when I was considering what to properly invest in while sacrificing to save money from other things, this was a good alternative investment that has sparked back some love for workout classes again. Well-deserved shout outs to Coaches Nick, Jacqueline, and Oliver and the front desk team. If you're looking for a motivating space, it's a good place for a comeback and a fresh start. Yes, I'm talking to you "New Year, New Me'rs". The time is right around the corner and I promise it's a sweet compliment to the place.
