Hugo is fantastic in two really important ways. 1) He is very attentive to your particular fitness goals in developing a workout plan. And 2) he focuses on warm up, form, and controlled motion to stay safe and avoid injury while still pushing you really hard. A little over a year ago, I had shoulder surgery to fix a chronic injury. And while I was disciplined about doing physical therapy, I still had pretty constant pain in my upper back. Hugo came up with a custom workout routine to focus on strengthening my shoulders, back, and core, and I am finally pain free. Review of My Experience Working with Hugo Early in 2024, shortly after beginning workouts with Hugo, I developed sudden, intense right shoulder pain while lying down at home. I expressed concern and suggested postponing our next session, but Hugo encouraged me to come in so he could assess the issue himself. After a brief evaluation, he believed it was a strain and recommended continuing with a workout. Unfortunately, the pain--which had been improving prior to that session--worsened significantly afterward and remains a persistent issue. As a physician, I decided to consult an orthopedic surgeon. When I shared this with Hugo, he dismissed the value of the visit, stating that orthopedic surgeons "just want to do surgery." In reality, the surgeon took a conservative approach: he ordered an MRI that revealed rotator cuff tendinopathy with tearing, other tendon involvement, and arthritis, and recommended physical therapy. Eventually, my physical rehab therapist diagnosed a long thoracic nerve injury--a primary source of my pain. My concerns include: Despite my report of significant pain, Hugo recommended a workout that included exercises--such as suitcase carries and prone shoulder extension stretches--which I later learned can exacerbate long thoracic nerve issues and other shoulder injuries. These significantly worsened my pain and may have aggravated the underlying condition. He initially discouraged me from working with the orthopedic surgeon, although the surgeon provided thoughtful, conservative treatment. He advised that I continue training with him instead of pausing and working with a licensed physical therapist, whose services were covered by my insurance. He did not honor a promise to refund unused prepaid sessions. Though he initially stated I would be refunded if I couldn't continue, he later responded to my refund requests with, "I'll pay you when I can," and eventually stated, "Bruce, unfortunately I cannot give a refund." He stated directly that he believed I was looking for an excuse to quit. This was not true--I had been working out five days a week at the gym before I had met Hugo, and, like many others, I found him personable, friendly, and enjoyable to work with. I genuinely looked forward to our sessions. Ultimately, my credit card company resolved the refund dispute in my favor. What began as a positive experience with Hugo unfortunately ended with unresolved physical issues and concerns about professionalism. *** update: This is a direct quote from one of your text messages: "Orthopedic recommendations will always be no exercise and to opt for surgery instead." The orthopedic surgeon, however, recommended physical therapy, encouraged continued cardiovascular exercise, and specifically advised taking a break from weight training with you to focus on PT. Based on that, I asked for a refund, uncertain when--or if--I would be able to resume working with you. Despite these medical recommendations, you preferred that I not stop training. Still, you repeatedly stated that you would issue a refund and even asked for my Venmo and Zelle information. Later, however, you changed your position, said you couldn't refund me, and began questioning my reasons for wanting to pause the sessions. read more

As a person who has been very skinny and self-conscious about their body all my life, I have been training with Hugo for the past seven weeks and it has honestly changed my life. I've been training with Hugo for about 9 months. We do a hybrid program where I do one session in-person once a week and then run and lift on my own the remainder of the week. In matters like this, personally, I feel like data speaks louder than words so let's start there. Weight - day 1: 253, current: 210 Body fat percentage - day 1: 28.4%, current: 18.6% I am the absolute last person who would go to a gym to pick up weights. The whole weight lifting culture really turned me off and I found it incredibly intimidating. Then in 2019 I was diagnosed with severe migratory rheumatoid arthritis. Spent a couple years trying to find the right drugs, multiple doctors, multiple solutions that weren't working. Then I decided I had two options - continue accepting that I couldn't move and allow my joints to complete degenerate (death) or take a last stand and try something I never thought could/would work but something about losing weight, gaining muscle, and moving on a regular basis sounded right (life). I met Chris in February of 2022 and he has helped me save my life. Full stop, no hyperbole. We started off small. I explained my situation, that I couldn't do many things so he started crafting a thoughtful and tailor program that would work for my situation. These days it is extremely difficult to find a quality trainer. This field is full of influencers and idiots who watch a few youtube videos and then brand themselves a "Personal Trainer." Hugo is the real deal. Not only does he have the proper certifications, he has detailed expertise and knowledge that sets him apart from any other trainer you will come across. I found Hugo on yelp. After reading all of his clients' positive testimonials, I immediately contacted him to set up a time to meet. The first session (a fitness assessment) was challenging and informative! He creates a customized meal plan and cardio plan (for days you aren't training with him) based on your fitness goals. I'm not usually a runner, however, I have clocked in anywhere from 6-12+ miles every week over the past couple of months. I don't believe I ran more than 3 miles last year alone! Hugo also shared with me a couple of running apps that help keep track of my distance, time, calories and another app that produces a 3D video of your run...all very exciting and helpful for me to see my progress week to week! For anyone new to working out or just looking to feel better both physically and mentally, Hugo is your man. I had knee issues and tendinitis/tennis elbow and he was able to simplify things so I can better understand what's wrong and how to fix it almost instantly. I had previously gone to a physical therapist and they were telling me all the scientific names for it and the exercises were so specific and complicated for a newbie that I wasn't even sure if I was doing it right until I met Hugo. He is VERY knowledgeable, positive and patient. I've done exercises I didn't think I could and I've gained more muscle than I thought I ever could. A big bonus: for all my adult life I couldn't put my hair up in a ponytail or bun because it'll cause a migraine and my doctor actually told me, its just how it is for some people, just like my tendonitis is chronic (it's not). I got paired with CHRISTIAN and he was awesome! He was very knowledgeable about injuries and taught me exercises that strengthened the muscles around it. First things first: 1) Clothes were getting tight and 7 mi hikes got me so winded that I had to stop multiple times. 2) I've never had personal training before so I was completely clueless. 3) This guy doesn't have any pictures of himself anywhere! At first, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to go with him so I decided to check out a few other trainers. One of the trainers I did a trial run with actually doesn't do cardio and did circuit training instead. I personally dislike cardio so I asked Hugo whether I could forgo cardio and do circuit training instead and he said he can work with that. He is also very willing to answer any questions you may have about training and fitness whenever. That pretty much sealed the deal for me! I've been training with him for about 6 months now - my initial goals were to build strength and endurance for Tough Mudders in 2015, build lean mass and maintain my weight. I enjoy training with Hugo because none of his sessions are the same. He's quite energetic, lively (sometimes too much so that you just want to smack him down. :] ), and funny which makes training fun. I'm glad I chose Hugo as my PT to help me get back into shape! With being a mom and all, it was tough to find guidance. At first I was hesitant to get a PT again because I'v had one before and it was a complete fail. It was such a bad experience so I just gave up. While searching for the right PT, I came across Hugo. After reading his reviews and scrolling through his client's before/ after photos, I must say that I was really impressed. So, I thought I'd give him a try. Hugo is very passionate about his career. He pride himself in helping others get into shape and to feel good about themselves. Hugo knows what he's talking about and is very knowledgeable in fitness/ health. With a driven personality, he keeps you motivated which keeps you pushing forward! Every sessions with Hugo, I leave feeling like my legs and arms are about the fall off. But I must say, I leave feeling greater than ever. I walk out of the gym feeling confident and being one step closer to my fitness goal! He really kicks my glutes!
