Our journey started with rain coming into our firebox during a storm. We called a roofer who said it wasn't the roof it was the chimney and gave us the phone number to Masters Services. Gabriel came out and did an inspection and found that the Fireplace had not been installed correctly and if we used it there's a good chance we could burn the house down. I thought it was extremism and did some research. I was able to confirm that what he showed us on the inspection camera was indeed VERY incorrect (the flue pipes were screwed together) and it could burn the house down. We decided to replace the Fireplace. Gabriel and Cayden worked with us through the entire design and installation. Cayden even offered to meet us at stone yards to help pick out Granite! What company does that?! Masters Services does!! Cayden and Gabriel were very responsive to my exhaustive questions and concerns. We're thinking about renovating our kitchen next and we WILL be using Masters Services for that job too! read more

Do NOT call! Scam artists & pressure tactic sales: My mother responded to a "summer special" mail flyer advertisement. She wanted a cleaning, and they charged her for an inspection. Of course the inspection revealed "damage" & sold her on a "complete chimney replacement". They re-skinned the exterior siding and charged her nearly $8000. I hired Masters Services to complete chimney work at my home for $25,000 within the last several months. After reviewing the work & estimate post completion, I consulted with a local independent chimney professional and my wife and I were shocked by what he told us. On the estimate, many of the line items were priced 40%-100% above market value, with no breakdown of materials, labor, or measurable scope (liner footage, brick count, square footage). Several services were bundled vaguely, making it impossible to tell what I was actually paying for. I assumed that we were getting a brand new chimney and the second opinion verified that I indeed got as he called it scammed. The estimate leaned heavily on fear-based verbiage to induce urgency, but failed to provide any reasonable objective evidence that supported the need for such extensive work. The so-called "lifetime warranty" is only valid if you keep paying them for annual inspections something that was not clearly disclosed to either my wife or I. The most concerning part? A respected chimney expert reviewed my invoice and called the pricing and their tactics a "scam." That's not my words it's words of another chimney professional. Per the request of Master Service' supervisor, I've submitted an email with my grievances so that "they can talk to their boss about it" and I am now randomly hearing from their insurance agent, which is not typical for a misrepresentation issue nor was it conveyed to me that's what they intended to do with my list of grievances. This has been the worst experience my wife and I that I could have imagined. If you're considering Masters Services, I recommend choosing someone else who doesn't use this level of deception that has values integrity and honesty. Fear mongering at it's finest! There's a mandatory $250 camera inspection fee and after all the defects in my now 50 year old chimney had been repaired would they do the cleaning for $3500. The total bill was $10,025 and of course the $250 camera inspection would go toward the bill. I just got my chimney swept today by a gentleman for $150 and he said that the cracks in my chimney weren't substantial enough to be repaired, even though he does make repairs on fireplaces. i've used master services in the past and I found them to be very reasonable and their quality of work to be excellent. Recently wanted to have some more work done and before they did anything they wanted to come out and do an inspection, I don't have a problem with that, however $350 for an inspection! Plus the inspection was required just to get a quote. Regardless of whatever excuse they may use to justify a charge of $350 just to come out and give you a quote, I would no longer say this company provides good value for the money. read more

They came out to fix the back panel of our fireplace and inspected the chimney. they knocked the interior pipe loose and the very next day when we had a fire - we had a FIRE IN OUR CHIMNEY - smoke was coming through the chimney wood. We called them back and the contractor came out and looked at this issue and said the reason the pipe came lose from the wall is because we burned the wrong kind of wood. Other chimney services said that was BS. We have used the same wood everyone does, cut locally and dried. They lied to avoid admitting they broke our fireplace system and said is would $10K to fix. She called and scheduled a date for them to come out and give estimate on our fire place. Excited since we haven't used in in over 15 years. So first. Well they sent a salesman out to look at the chimney, roof and assured me everything looked good and didn't need much work. YEA!! finally she thought. Even paid a $800 and some odd dollar amount deposit so that they could get started. Well before the day came she called them that she had changed her mind and wanted to upgrade to gas log, being that the price was in our range. Well when the day came the guys called to let me know they was on their way after the inpected for a second time he told me that the work could not be completed less known start on it because of rust he found and a whole lot more which made the cost go from $2200 to $10,000. How could one inspection miss so much. And I still dont know where my $560 went to ‍. The one good thing that came out of this is the guys who actually came out to do the work. Could they have been built it straighter and handled it with care so that there were no scratches in the paint present? Sure they could, but for the quality of the materials and price it the cap, I was satisfied. It met my needs and honesty who is going to notice the minor flaws besides me and the birds? Masers services installed a Chimmy cap that fell after the first windy day. They failed to inform the customer that the mortar around the cap was dry a cracking and would not hold. If they " the professional installer " would have told me, before they installed the Chimmy cap I would have had them fix it. They didn't and it fell on the first windy day. My 76 old mother called Master Services Inc to purchase gas fire logs. While on the call they recommended a chimney inspection which she agreed. She later received an appointment for installing the "gas logs" per the description of the appt and what she thought was getting installed. They did the chimney inspection then recommended she replace the entire chimney cap at $4k. That's when she reached out to me for advice. I had her tell the inspector to call me. The inspector said the existing chimney is fine per code, but they always recommend upgrading if they see a reason. I declined the $4k chimney cap since not needed and said just to install the fire place logs. That's when he told me they were on backorder for 3-6 months. They sold my 76 year old mother a $250 inspection plus an entire chimney cap replacement for $4k before ever telling her the logs that she thought she was getting that day were on backorder. The logs and burned kit would not be available until after the winter. I was furious and told them not to do anything and we would get logs elsewhere. The manager, Cody, called later asking if there was a problem. I explained my disappointment in what my mother was put through and he apologized then said my mom still owed the $250 for the inspection. I explained there never would have been an inspection if she would have been told they had no logs and she shouldn't be charged due to misleading her. Cody then said they had a recording of her accepting the inspection and would put a lien on her house if she didn't pay. I responded they cannot upsell her multiple services on a product they don't have unless they tell her in advance there is a 3-6 month backorder which she claims they never did, and I would like to listen to the recording to confirm. There's no mention on their website of a backorder, not on the appointment saying "fire logs" nor in the phone call. Cody said he would send the recording, but we still have not received it after asking over 5 times, however, they did send her an invoice for the $250. Master Services uses misleading sales tactics that take advantage of elderly people, and if anyone else has encountered this please speak up to help protect other elderly people. He declined to get actually up by the chimney due to the steep roof. He then gave me an estimate that was, well, shocking. I told him I would think about it and let them know. I called a 2nd service who, for doing the same work with the same materials, came in with an estimate less than HALF of what MS wanted, with the same guarantees. We needed our firebox back wall rebuilt and the chimney cleaned and re-lined after they inspected it. They completed the work in a timely manner and were very nice people. It looks to be quality work but I guess only time will tell. However, the reason I won't give the fifth star is because they did not do a good job of cleaning up after themselves. They tracked mud in and left dirty footprints all over the floor with no effort of any sort of cleanup. I had a bet with my wife that surely they would clean up once the work was complete. I lost. Then on the third and final visit after cleaning and relining, they left a big mess on the concrete below the ash door outside. This is our walkway to get to the garage. The photo isn't a good representation of the mess because of the rain but if you will look there is a broken drill bit that was left behind by the worker. Who does that? I work for a furniture company and if any of my installers left the customer's home the way mine was, there would be some consequences. I guess some people take more pride in their work than others. Housekeeping at work is important! Whether you are at a customers home or back at your warehouse should not matter. read more

I paid $1300 less than year ago to seal the chimney brick and install a new cap with a 10 year warranty, My roofer informed me that my chimney was "shedding " and that I should seal it quickly there is no evidence that the chimney was ever sealed! When I called Masters for inspection, they will not warranty their work and recommend a rebuild with no apologies. The chimney cap looks great. Any other service is at your own risk. Just had Masters come out to sweep my chimney but not without a $150 inspection first. Had the inspection, good points brought up, along with a $1000+ estimate to fix things, but guess what, no chimney sweep, the main reason to call. I was not told this when I made the appointment or when the technician got here that if the chimney did not pass inspection, I could not get it clean. If I had known this, I would have addressed the matter. I suggest everyone get the story straight before using them or anyone else as all of them require an inspection. Very, very unhappy. I hired Masters Services to seal my chimney as there was a leak coming through there. At first the repair seemed okay, but then it rained and it leaked all over again. I called them to come fix it and the manager told me to change the cap on the top of the chimney to which I did. Then it rained hard again and it leaked AGAIN. He sent another individual to inspect it who claimed nothing was wrong. So I hired another company for a second opinion to check it out. That company came in and took a bunch of pictures of where the leaks were occurring in the chimney and he offered to speak to the manager of Masters Services to share the pictures and discuss where the leaks were coming from and that I was within my right to get repairs as I was also still under warranty. I called the office FIVE times and left a message EACH time. The office lady that picked up the phone informed me that she had told the manager about my complaint each time and that he just hadn't returned my call. He has yet to return my call and my chimney is still leaking!!! I thought I would get what I paid for by going with a big name company with good ratings, but that just isn't the case. They are a complete rip off, I called them to do a chimney sweep and inspection for like 140$ and had my contractor let the guy in. To make a long story short he said that there was a crack in the bottom of the fireplace that would cost approximately 500$ to repair before he could sweep the chimney. Since I was already stressed from having my home renovated I decided to pay the 99$ inspection fee and use as little profanity as possible. When the fireplace stopped working in January after the Oct 2015 repair, I called them in the Summer to see if they would warranty their work. Their short answer was "No. We don't work on direct vent fireplaces anymore." So I was left with a fireplace that they repaired, but they wouldn't warranty the work.
