Our server was great. She was attentive and friendly and made sure that we had everything that we needed. With regards to the food.... Disappointing. It's been over 10 years since our last visit and this visit reminded us why. We started with drinks - a Long Island and a margarita on the rocks. They were terrible. The only flavor was liquor. The margarita was clear - there was little to no mix and I could smell it from across the table. Strong drinks are great - if they taste good. These had to be choked down. Next we ordered appetizers - saganaki and coconut shrimp. The presentation of the saganaki was fine, but there wasn't enough butter in the dish and the cheese ended up being burned...not browned - burnt. The flavor of the coconut shrimp was good, but the shrimp itself was almost mushy. It was really unappealing. The bread basket came and the bread was cold and dry. Normally, I love the bread basket. I had a bite of one roll and that was plenty. For the entree, I had the chicken picatta with mashed potatoes and my husband had the New York strip. The flavor of the chicken and sauce was good, but the chicken itself was fatty and chewy in parts. The mashed potatoes were bland and nothing special. My husband said his steak was just ok, nothing fantastic. We had really hoped for more, instead our visit reaffirmed why we hadn't visited in so long. read more

I forced Sammie to go out to eat with me and we went to this really weird 80s type golf themed restaurant thing with way too much wood and emerald green paint it even had a fake green lightbulb chandelier thing and old pics of tiger woods everywhere with an extremely elderly crowd that we're quite sure we just murdered without remorse bc of covid. A 2 level restaurant in metro Detroit with plenty of parking. The decor is golf, think of a nicer Friday's or Applebee's with all the stuff on the wall or in the corners being golf related. There is a coat check room. The food ranges from upper end pub to steak and seafood house. Decent beer selection, the bar is pretty quick, the staff is nice and fast. My husband and I were looking for a restaurant that had higher quality food. We've been to a few so-so restaurants and were tired of wasting our money and leaving unsatisfied. I did a little research via Yelp and found this place. The restaurant has a warm ambiance. If you're looking for a bright sunny place with modern furnishings. This isn't the place. You can tell they've been around for some time with the dark wood and furnishings and dim lighting. We were seated immediatly. This place is a pretty good size with two levels. The waitress was nice and attentive. We started with soup, salad and dinner rolls....plus a coconut shrimp appetizer. The dinner rolls tasted homemade and came to the table warm with whipped butter. The seafood chowder was somewhat disappointing. I only tasted clams. I'n not sure what other seafood was supposed to be in there, but I couldn't taste it. I expected pieces of clam, shrimp, etc. The overall flavor wasn't bad but the chowder could have had more body to it. We both had the typical garden salad. The salad appears to be pre-made. The ingredients were a little sad; wilted onion and some of the mixed greens. I just picked thru it. The coconut shrimp were crunchy on the outside and the sauce was sweet and tangy. Husband enjoyed them. For our meal, I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and my husband ordered one of the daily specials which was parmesan white fish with baked potato. We both enjoyed our meals. The prime rib was very tender and flavorful. I could have used a little more cook on the meat. I asked for medium well. One side was med well but the other was more medium in my opinion. I didn't fret about it. The portion was so large, I couldn't finish it all. The mashed potatoes and gravy were tasty as well. My husband's fish was cooked perfectly. I tried it and it had a great flavor from the parmeson cheese. I personally did not like the tartar sauce. The menu gave the impression that it was homemade and it certainly could have been, but it took away from the fish. Just tasted like mayo and sweet pickles. Sauce needs to be elevated. All in all, we would certainly return. We enjoyed our entrees and also seen some delicious looking dishes from other patrons around us. read more

Recently had an opportunity to visit The Masters located on 13 mile and Dequindre in Madison Heights and bordering its neighbor Warren. This restaurant has been in this location for many years and to be honest it's been quite some time since my last visit. This restaurant is designed around a golf theme and is reminiscent of the clubhouse in Augusta Georgia where the Masters golf tournament is played every year. The interior has a nice cozy bar area for drinks and conversation and a nice roomy dining area to engage in a fine dining experience at reasonable prices. The menu has a great selection of starters from saganaki to nachos to flaming sausage which all agreed was excellent. The entree offerings included a good variety of steaks, chops, chicken, seafood and sandwiches for the lunchtime crowd. On this Thursday evening we selected a filet steak, lightly breaded pan fried perch sautéed in butter and herbs and broiled Canadian salmon. Entrees included a salad and a side plus unlimited warm bread and butter. All three of us could only rave about the preparation, presentation and quality of the dinner selections. The service was outstanding, the ambience was relaxing and the food was excellent. I definitely recommend The Masters to anyone who wants to enjoy five star dining for one third the cost!! read more

I tossed and turned all night thinking about how I was gonna do this review some justice, and make a bad situation for me entertaining for you. Let's dig in! This review is all about learning. Learning that one person's great time is another's miserable time. Learning that one person can leave the same restaurant full and satisfied, and the other, hungry and angry... Hangry, if you will. I remember being a teenager and thinking by the looks of the outside that this place was "fannnncy".. LOL!!! How naive teenagers can be. Truthfully, it's dark, it's wood, it's golf-y and it attracts an older clientele. That pretty much sums it up. I needed a dinner date while my Diva Queen daughter was out skating, and I lucked out that my son was available... and wanted to hang out with me. He's 17, a junior in high school, tops on his cross country team, has a job and a girlfriend, so yeah.. pretty much an appointment to see him nowadays! We had to stick close to 15 and Dequindre to pick up DQ. I asked him if he wanted to go to Mario's or The Masters. He said The Masters right away and said, "They're GOOD!" He was half right anyway.... We walked in at 7:15pm to a decent crowd, and no host at the door. That's cool, i'm not in a hurry. But then like, 5 mins pass, and my son says, "are we supposed to seat ourselves maybe?" LOL The host shows up and seats us in a booth downstairs. Son says he wants the tomato florentine soup, that it's soooo good! I ask what other soups they have. French onion and seafood chowder. For mains, he gets the NY strip, and I get fried lake perch. Both with baked potato/butter/sour cream. This is always where I get myself into trouble; going against instinct to order seafood. I love a steak, but I LOVE seafood to the point that I should have fucking flippers and a tail. I excitedly order the chowder. FML... Our soups come out with a basket of some boring warm bread, saltines and a little cup of whipped butter. Remember the butter, we'll touch up on that later. Son tears right into his soup and is all over how great it is. I look at my "chowder" (now using the term loosely) and it looks like fucking wallpaper paste. Oh no, not again. "Mom, STOP looking at your food like that!!" But I can't help it. I know what comes next. Dare I try it? I'm stupid so of course I try it. Straight up fucking flour. I can't believe delicious crustaceans gave their lives for this. "Watch this.." I tell him, and proceed to stand my spoon in the chowder. It stands at attention until our waitress comes to ask about it. I tell her it's a little thick.. Her answer?? "Yeah, it is." Wow, thank you Captain Obvious! I got a bowl of the tomato to go instead. Cool, DQ loves the tomato florentine and will eat it later i'm sure. I eat a piece of the boring bread and sulk. Son says " I told you, you should have ordered what I did." Not now, kid, i'm sulking! The mains come, and son's steak looks SO amazing. He cuts me a little piece and it tastes fabulous!! He's in heaven! My fish is looking pretty great too!! 5 pieces flour fried. The waitress brings our baked potatoes, sets them down, grabs the butter cup from the breadbowl, and sets it between us. "Here's some butter for your baked potato." LMAO!! Fucking seriously?? Ummmm... ok. Taste? Mmmmm.... bland and dry, but greasy at the same time... Can that even happen?? The flour had no seasoning whatsoever in it, the tartar sauce tasted like Miracle Whip... oh Lord I was so upset. Like nearly in tears at this point. Maybe my taste buds have gone to shit??? Maybe I am just a picky bitch... NO. I know that's not true because my son's whole meal was AWESOME!! I quietly willed and gulped down 3 of the 5 pieces, and devoured my baked potato like I just ended a fucking hunger strike. Luckily my son doesn't like mushrooms, so I got the 3 from his steak. Great. Almost a meal. : / So, in the end. My son was right. And so I learned... I should've ordered what he ordered. I should've fuckin ordered the steak. Damn! Some places should stick to one or the other I guess. That's what i'll take away from this. So, my personal experience, 2 stars. My son's? 4 stars!! We'll split at 3 ok? $44.00 with tip and no alcohol. Dinners come with soup OR salad and a side. /Uneven!! read more

Every Friday I try to treat my mom to dinner at a different restaurant around town. Tonight it was a hole-in-one at The Masters. The service was outstanding. I loved the decor with the upstairs dining having an open view of the downstairs dining area. I loved the old-school service elevator that mom could use to relieve her bad knees. The wood shutters and big round windows were gorgeous. Mom ordered the lake perch which was fresh and delicious. Mom likes sweet, red wine, which wasn't on the menu so the waiter prepared delicious sangria for her to enjoy. For my wine selection I chose Oberon (Napa Valley) Cabernet Sauvignon, it was smooth and rich served in a large wine glass. This porterhouse steak was very flavorful, juicy and tender. The meal was served with a cup of soup and in my case I ordered a baked potato. The steak was sliced rather thin but an overall great value for the money. For dessert we had a slice of carrot cake along with a cup of coffee. I always worry about ordering coffee late in the day as it is usually the coffee left sitting in the pot of an hour or so but my cup of coffee was hot, and fresh. The carrot cake was moist and full of flavor. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to for a nicer atmosphere, but still inexpensive. I remember driving passed it as a kid and always thinking it must be really fancy and expensive. You can definitely dress up for the Master's but it isn't necessary. It's also a very kid friendly restaurant. My kids always get so excited to go there. The atmosphere is so nice. It has a golf theme to the decor, but even if you aren't interested I'm golf, (which I'm not), you'll still appreciate it. The restaurant has beautiful wood details and rich, warm colors. The decorations are lovely, especially during the holidays. I have never been disappointed in anything I've ever ordered here. The chicken and steak dishes are my favorites and this last time, I got a bacon cheese burger and it was perfect. The prices are not bad either. Not super cheap, but not expensive at all. I've been to several parties here and they are very accommodating. They have an upstairs for a very large group, or there is a sunroom for a medium sized group. The only thing I'll say is that I prefer the regular menu choices over the party selections. But that's probably just a personal preference. The staff is very friendly and professional. The wait staff and busboys are extremely attentive. They've always bent over backwards to accommodate our needs and preferences. Also, you cannot find a restaurant with more personable owners. Koula always greets us and takes time to visit with us at our table. She makes us feel so welcome. I would definitely recommend checking this restaurant out. You won't be disappointed. read more

Went there last night for my grandpas 90th birthday. They brought him this giant wine glass of booze and we all enjoyed taking pictures with it. Food was awesome. I had crab legs, they were perfect. Hubs had prime rib that melted in your mouth. Kids had chicken strips and ate 100 hot fresh rolls with butter. Service was great! Can't wait to go back! read more

I've been here 3xnow. The first time I came here was about 15 years ago. I liked it better back then. I'm assuming that the owners and Mgt changed. When I came here recently the clientele was all over 50 on a wknd, Sat around 7pm. So I felt a little out of place. I just assumed they were locals that come here. The hostess wasn't overly friendly. One waiter I had one time was friendly but the recent one, not so much. I wanted to try the saganaki so we had that as our appetizer. It tasted like the typical saganaki. The guy that brought it out was nice and was going to re-do it so I could get a picture. But I said it's ok. He was the only "nice" staff. My friend ordered the porkchops and I ordered the whitefish. The previous time I had a glass of red wine. Today, I had hot tea here. My friend just ordered a pop. It was very cold out so I needed something warm. I also tried the escargot the previous time; the escargot was OK, a little bit greasy for my liking. I also had a Caesar salad which was alright. The waitress took a long time to bring our orders to us including my hot tea. I didn't think that hot tea would take forever. I wasn't that impressed with the food, the staff, or the ambiance here. I think it was better 15 years ago when I first checked it out. It seems a little bit down scale for my liking. They could really use a rejuvenation on their architecture and decor. I really enjoyed the environment, and the food was very good. The Steak Bites were seasoned to perfection, and very tender! My first time trying the Escargot, the texture puts you in the mind of lobster. The Lamb Chops was also an excellent choice ~ they served them with mashed potatoes (which I determined was instant) so I asked for a loaded potato. We walked in one night and the first thing he said was "kitchen closes in 5 minutes you need to put your orders in now". I have no real complaints; which is rare for me!! Lol The food, environment , menu selection, wine selection, knowledgeable and experienced staff, flow of service, freshness of the food, EVERYTHING was exceptional!! We had such a great flow and experience from beginning to end. We came quite late, but still had time to enjoy each course. We sat in the back corner near the kitchen. It wasn't busy this late on a Saturday night... karaoke in the distance. We started with a bottle of Grand Traverse Select Semi-dry Riesling. It was perfect! For starters we had calamari, which is served with lemon and cocktail sauce, flash fried. He has never had it before and loved it, as well as I! Very fresh and crispy! Bread basket was soft, fresh, and delicious. HAS TO BE made in-house!! Next, we chose salads over soup, one with ranch, one with vinaigrette. Disappointingly, his salad only had one black olive in it and mine had none. Unfortunately not many toppings... 2 chick peas, 2 croutons, 2 cherry tomatoes, and 1 red onion ring. Aside from the sparse accompaniments in our salads, they were still extremely delicious, thanks to the (homemade Im guessing?) dressings. I'm not entirely complaining just forewarning... if you like a bit more toppings you might want to ask for a bit more when ordering. (I really love a nice size dinner salad and fresh toppings!) And finally came our dinner course. I ordered the 16 oz prime rib medium to medium rare, and he ordered a slab of ribs with a baked potato. Prime rib came with au jus/zip sauce, I added fresh steamed broccoli and a baked potato. (Extra sour cream, please!) We loved our server, she was very attentive, fast, and friendly. Angelina is her name I think!! A great server makes the meal and is the first and last impression you get from a restaurant, so I hope the place high value on her here, she completed our delightful experience. We barely ate half of our food and boxed it for later as they were closing and we were having so much fun that time flew by. My pickiness and perfectionism was silenced here!! A rarity!! I went here a few times with friends for special events. The food here is pretty good, I had the French onion soup the last two times I was dining in. The lamb chops are good and not lacking in meat, they are tender. The decor is classy and I like how they have the upstairs floor overlooking the bottom. It's got an old school, small home town bar type of feel to it where it seems like everyone knows everyone. The Cromwell sandwedge was good, onion rings ok, the wife's shrimp scampi was fresh, but she felt there was too much butter on it. Ask to sit in Raj's section. My birthday dinner at Master's Restaurant was as delicious as I knew it would be. Raj, my favorite server, saw to it that I was not disappointed. He and Ayah work together in perfect unison. What a great team! I think of Raj as a friend because he makes every time there very special. At 7 pm, Gordy arrived and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. The outside is amazing, you actually feel like you are walking into a clubhouse located on a famous golf course. The inside is beautiful. Lots of nice wood everywhere. They have a live piano player on some nights, I am not sure which days but I usually go there on Thursdays and he is there. As for the food, delicious.
