Master AutoTech is either totally incompetant or they are totally dishonest and unethical. My wife had vehicle issues while on her way to Orem(from southern Utah). She made an appt to have our 09 suburban looked at(check engine light blinking) as the car was not running well. They quoted her over $6300. Saying we needed new lifter kit, timing chain, head gasket, camshaft, etc. I was skeptical so I drove 200+ miles and brought it home on a trailer. Had my local shop in Cedar City look at it(Midtown Tire and Auto). Turns out it just needed spark plugs and wires. Car runs like new now. I think they were just trying to take advantage of my wife. Stopped in with Yukon that needed a new catalytic converter. Wanted an Est to have the work done and he came back with 1200.00 dollars. WHAT THE ..... He assured me that's a great deal. Of course he wanted me to leave the car immediately but I made an excuse to bring it back later? Went a block south to Rick's muffler and he was very apologetic that prices had just gone up and it would be 300 dollars. Rick's had it done in a couple hours for the 300 dollars. I'm working on a vintage project car and I've now had master muffler help with a couple things on the build. Including designing and installing a complete exhaust system from the headers back. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE at this place, Total rip off. I came in to have my muffler fixed. On my Suzuki Samurai. (that cost 250 I thought was high). Also total them that I need an emissions test, and call me if you see any issues.(if there was an issue with the catalytic converter I could replace it because the muffler was off). After the muffler was fixed they called, and told me it was a total fail on the emissions test, I asked if it could have someone one look it he said the guy was out. My husband and I are in the process of selling my car to upgrade to a larger vehicle when suddenly my left front brake started making noise. I went to les schwab and they quoted me $600. Les Schwab will only do a full brake replacement and won't work on individual issues that need attention. Ultimately all I needed was a new brake pad and Andrew was extremely helpful and was able to get that taken care of within a couple of hours. NEVER GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CAR DESTROYED!!! I took my car in. They charged me $1700 to fix it because they claimed I needed new control arms (apparently I didn't. I needed new tie rods which cost an additional $700 at a different place after the fact.) After they unnecessarily replaced both of my control arms, they didn't realign my tires. Over about a month my brand new tires were completely bald and smooth because of their mistake. I ended up having to get 2 new tires, a new alignment, and new tie rods other places. Worst experience of my life!! read more

Came in for a "check engine" light and 4 hours later they told me my Subaru had corroded spark plug wires which needed to be replaced immediately for just over $200. Funny thing is, I had those wires replaced 3 weeks earlier by my trusted mechanic back home in Boise. To humor them (and I know my way around an engine), I popped the hood and checked myself and of course they were still the BRAND NEW ones I just put in. Made me SO MAD!! During their "inspection" they also unconnected my cabin air filter tubes which they didn't bother to put back together! So when I got home to check the wires, I also found the tubes totally unconnected and just SITTING on top of the engine! read more

Writing my experience was inadequate is an understatement. Master Muffler took on a job they were ill equipped to handle, yet neglected to relay their lack of knowledge or even capabilities to me before charging me a bundle of money only to send me on my way with an uncorrected issue that led to a catastrophic climax, literally putting my vehicle out of commission. There was little to no communication from the manager, leaving me as their ignorant, but stupidly trusting customer in the dark. After two misdiagnoses and a steady oil leak said to be "residual oil from repairs", my engine blew leaving me stranded on the side of the freeway in rush hour traffic. I have been without a vehicle for three months now, left to pay off the remainder of my loan so I can ultimately sell what's left of my car for parts. The silver lining is I eventually did haggle my money back; though it should be acknowledged that the manager at Master Muffler does NOT accept responsibility as the engine in my car was destined to explode. If that was indeed the case, why he wouldn't have cared to mention that from the beginning can only attest to the blatant sexual bias projected by this 'sagely' manager upon a woman who trusted this company to abide to their motto written on their website: ". . . all work is backed by Master Muffler's reputation of experience and quality. I went in to get my exhaust put in that i had picked out for my car and told them to use clamps and factory exhaust placement, they took a couple of days and i had my car back ready to hear my new exhaust. after driving down the street i noticed a click coming from my engine i thought there is no way that is from my exhaust system because its brand new so i gave it to a mechanic that i work with. after raising it up on the lift i found first off it was welded it so i could no longer change anything on it for the future like i had planned, Second THE BOLTS THAT HOLD IT TO THE DOWNPIPE WERE NOT EVEN TIGHTENED ON! After tightening the bolts and putting it down I started it up sure enough the click had gone and soon after my engine light turned off. I work at Larry H miller ford lincoln in provo and have long recommended this place to my customers for exhaust repair but seeing as they cannot even tighten a few lousy bolts i will be recommending ANYWHERE but here. I truly wish negative stars was an option. Quick background first. The shop is very close to my home and does emission testing which is the main reason I used them. Decided to have them check a couple of things over that time as well and get some prices. To begin with, unless you know these guys personally you can kiss customer service goodbye. Almost every time I am in for something I typically have to wait, however if what I am assuming is a known customer comes in then they are taken care of immediate. So strikes off the bat for that. But that could be forgiven with good work and fair prices. First example took in car for emissions but check engine light went on a few days before. I typically do all my own work but did not have time so had them look at it. Car had a low acceleration so I figured sensor. They confirmed it was intake and exhaust manifold sensors and could fix for $775. $150 of that parts. I was pretty surprised but was not sure if that was since I did not know how hard it would be to get sensors since they can be a pain. Dude 10 minutes of research, and literally, I wish I was making this up, 5-7 minutes of work. It was two bolts and two plugs right on top of the engine. I got the parts OEM from dealership for $100. So they would have gladly charged me over $600 in labor for a 5 minute job. There is no way I would ever trust a ship that would have the audacity to charge that much for a simple job. This was so simple literally anyone with a socket could do it. Literally easier then an oil change and they want $600+. Second time around my wife took our car there when I was out of town without telling me. She thought there was a problem with transmission. They performed a $25 leak check and said transmission had a terrible leak, but they don't do transmission work so they referred her to Action transmission in Provo. When I got back I called action just to set up an appointment to see if there was a leak. Without even making the appointment or looking at my car they told me those transmissions suck and it would be $3500 or more for new one. Immediately went to two different transmissions shops that both confirmed no leak, and that trans just needed a $125 drain and fill. If you think you misread that last part you did not, THERE WAS NO LEAK. So master muffler would have happily referred me to what is a shop I am sure they work a lot with to repair a transmission that had no issues. And as a pint of reference this was over 6 months ago and car drives great. To sum this all up unless you like giving your money to dishonest, misleading and downright shady mechanic avoid master muffler and action transmission at all cost!!!! read more

We happened on Master Muffler by chance after the KIA dealership insisted we needed new catalytic converters. I found a coupon in the mail and took my car there to get an estimate on said repair. No surprise, the catalytic converters were fine, we simply needed the manufacturer recommended spark plugs and a new coil. A significantly less expensive repair. We have been so impressed with their knowledge of cars (you talk right to a mechanic at the desk) and honesty! Which is so refreshing!!! The owner even gave us a ride home one day, back when we only had one car. Tyler also really knows his stuff and is easy to talk to. They are now our primary mechanic for anything we need on either of our cars from easy safety/emissions to air condition repair and now an evasive electrical problem that has the dealer stumped. Great knowledge technicians. However, the owner told me the exhaust manifold leaked, and need to be replaced. Could the leaks, can be fixed instead of replacing them? The total cost was over $1000; this included the parts and labor. We went to other shop in Draper, they had the header gasket replaced and total cost was $120 for part and labor. However, the better advice to customers who choose not to replace the exhaust system. It can cost over $1000 to replaced, versus maybe $120 to replace the gasket. I am pretty sure, they known that! read more
