When I'm in Elysburg for work, I like to go to Masser's. Unfortunately, the dining room is closed Monday's and Tuesdays but the takeout side is open with a limited menu. Great home cooked meals. I had Shick with stuffing and pickled cabbage. They have lots of "odd" sides that many people might not recognize like hot bacon lettuce, Harvard beets, pickled cabbage and many others. I love it reminds me of Sunday dinner at my grandparents. Plenty of parking. read more

Delicious and reasonably priced! Wow! Our family was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. While the establishment appears dated on the outside- the inside provides excellent service, top quality cooking of delicious and flavorful comfort food. The freshest and most delicious mini loaves of bread accompany the entrees. The bread is melt in your mouth scrumptious! My one daughter commented on how the macaroni and cheese was the best she ever had in 26 years! The chicken I had in the chicken and dumplings was incredibly tender and flavorful. My other daughter, who is obsessed with pierogis stated they too were the best she ever had and she loved the hand made quality. I could continue praising this food, but I'd rather encourage you to not take my word on it, but rather give it a go yourself. You won't be disappointed! Highly recommended read more

This review is for the chicken shack section of the restaurant that moved over from the old chicken shack next door. This is particularly about the chicken. I don't know if they had to get rid of their fryers or what the issue is, but there is a very large difference between the old fried chicken and the new baked(?) breaded chicken. One is crispy, moist, tasty and delicious. The new chicken they make is dry, stringy, and a chore to eat it. It's just really not good or appetizing at all now. I was sad when the shack closed, but excited when I heard it was coming back, just in part of the restaurant. It's not back; it's not the same. read more

Had dinner at Masser's last night, the server was very friendly and caring. I ordered the Ham special, when it came out I was surprised how small the ham portion was-must be a cut back. Everything tasted good just a small portion. My brother in law got the turkey special and ordered the hot bacon dressing as a side, you could see the bacon was burnt and it makes the rest of side taste burnt. The server did offer another side to replace the hot lettuce. It wasn't extremely busy just steady. The restaurant could have been a little warmer because it was chilly. read more

OUTSTANDING old-fashioned cooking! Went to Massers on a whim on our way to Knoebels. The fried chicken and fresh cut fries are absolutely delicious. I ate here on Saturday afternoon March 14, for the first time in years. I was sooo disappointed....to an extent. I have always heard about how great the chicken and waffles are. Horrible !!!! The chicken tasted like it was leftover from a day or two and reheated. The waffle could definitely use some help. That also had a funny taste. However, the meal was graciously taken back and replaced with a wonderful filet of fresh haddock. Fantastic customer service. For an appetizer I had Pierogies which are homemade and very, very good!!! I tasted my friend's meatloaf which was also very good. All in all, I will go back. read more

While I've never eaten at the restaurant, we book the catering hall often for work meetings and recently booked it for our employee Breakfast with Santa event. I absolutely loved dealing with Chris! She made sure to go over every detail and had the hall decorated beautifully for the party! The food on the breakfast buffet came out promptly and was really good. There was plenty of space for the 190 people that attended and all of the feedback from everyone was overwhelmingly positive. We heard about their amazing fried chicken from a friend and since that is one of my favorites we decided to give it a try. First, the restaurant has 2 sides. One is strictly for fried chicken and a few other specials with about 8 tables. The other side, I was told, also serves the fried chicken but in a dining room setting. We ate in the fried chicken side. It was extremely clean, from the knick knacks to the ceiling fans (they are my way of determining if a place is actually clean). The young woman at the counter (it's not table service) was extremely friendly and we had our food delivered super fast. We both got the 3 piece meals. I got mashed potatoes and coleslaw and my husband got the cucumber salad and mashed potatoes. The chicken is crispy, juicy and fall off the bone tender. The sides were all delicious as well. Our bill was about $22 with 2 drinks. I highly recommend this place! read more

I came here tonight hoping for a good meal. They were not running the AYCE buffet. I thought, ok I'll order off the menu. That was a mistake. They were already out of one of the three specials. So we picked something else. Our sides were delivered along with the news that they were out of our entrees. So I watched my sides get cold while I picked a new entree. After reordering, I asked for more complimentary bread. Only to learn, to my great surprise, they were out of that too. The waitress was ok, but there is no excuse for a kitchen like this. I am pretty sure that I going to have to wait long enough to forget this not so delightful experience before I make the mistake of coming here again. Maybe breakfast is better, and maybe even lunch. But my dinner experience was quite appalling. The only reason I am even giving this establishment 2 stars, is because the waitress was not horrible. read more

We are at the restaurant right now for Mother's Day and we are not happy. The breaded pork chops my husband got were really dry as well as the ham I ordered. There was only one serving of bread given to our family of 11. Service was so-so. Our drinks weren't refilled without prompting. The tables were too close together. We are not impressed whatsoever. After traveling all the way from Harrisburg just to sit in a crowded, less than mediocre restaurant with a bunch of screaming kids at the table next to us. Let's say next Mother's Day we pick a better restaurant or cook out at home. read more

Awful! Horrible!! I have never left any place more disappointed. First of all the frozen us out with the AC. Next the food took forever to come out. I had the country fried steak, you get the option of two sides. Had I known that the meal came with mashed potatoes I would have not ordered another type of potato. Also country fried steak should come with a country gravy and not brown gravy. Other members of my party were equally as dissatisfied with their meals. Overall not a pleasant experience, all I could think was this place was Zagat rated?!? Did they really mean Zagnut rated?!? Certainly will not ever return here when in the area. read more

Chipped beef on toast. Scrapple. French dip. All you can eat bar - at breakfast. Old timey lunch counter mixed with a formal feeling dining room/event hall. You will not go here in order to find healthful dishes. You will go here for someone else to cook your food for you and treat you to Pennsylvania's regional specialties. And gloppy gravy.
