We live in the neighborhood, thus we were excited to have a new place to go to within minutes. We enjoy the laid-back atmosphere, as much as we enjoy the mussels. We have tried them at many places, throughout the country, as well as several places in the world. Aside from Maine and San Francisco in US, and Sydney in Australia, the mussels at Massa's in St Charles are even better then in Amsterdam. Good place to eat. The place had an identity problem. Did not know if we were in a restaurant or a disco. Bar rescue to the rescue!!!!

Very poor service. Took an hour to get our food and it wasn't busy. We had to have our group of 8 split into two tables and the other table was done within half an hour. The server obviously forgot to put our order in, but after asking three times for the status of our food the manager's excuse was that they were making sure the chicken breast was cooked all of the way through which is the best they could come up with after our meal came out. An hour? Insulting. If they had owned up to a simple mistake it would have been no big deal, but instead their mentality is that they can pull the wool over the eyes of their customers, and made no attempt to correct the problem. This is a great place for happy hour specials and food. The drinks are good as well. I will Say though the atmosphere is a bit confusing, almost like a identity crisis. A bunch of random decorations everywhere for a "Italian restaurant". Stuffed Animals with old fashion decor. Good place to relax at the bar for some apps and a few drinks. read more

Date night failure! Bad service. Under cooked food. After a really long week all we wanted to do was sit down and enjoy a nice dinner. We both ordered the steak medallions cooked medium-rare and dinner salads. Bread and salads never showed up, but instead, the food runner brought out our steak medallions. Unfortunately, only one out of the six medallions were cooked to order and the rest were very rare. We were starving so we ate most of them. Unfortunately, the waitress was nowhere to be found for us to send them back. We finally flagged her down to send back our last two... They came back well done. Just about that time, the salad made it to the table. To top it off, it was more than 15 minutes after we finished eating before she ever brought us the bill. When I'm spending $50 on dinner for two, I expect better. The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is because the ONE med-rare medallion was delicious!! read more

Needed table for 2 and waited 30 min & no place to sit. We got a lasagna and a seafood pasta. Salad was extra $. House dressing was white but without seasoning,. No bread or crackers except thin slice on side of dinner. Pasta dinner was to be a cream sauce but it was "orange" and too much of it. Came to masas with a large party. The food, Cajun pasta, was good. Service was good for a party of this size. The interior is a bit odd- part Italian and part Applebee's with a dash of Cajun. Overall....not bad. read more

We had a late lunch early dinner and we met this beautiful waitress named Jessica. She was so adorable and took care of us the whole time we were there. Friday nite and a party of nine. Our waitress did a great job keeping our glasses full and checking on us as when we would like to order. The food came as expected, the place was full. I loved our chef salad and others raved about the Italian salad. The food was hot and good, our Baked Mostaccioli was wonderful. We came here with a very large party of about 25 or so people, so I feel like my experience was a bit skewed. Nonetheless, I am going to proceed... The place itself is pretty nice. It has a fun decor, and feel. They play music, and have a tiny dance floor, I guess primarily used to shake your booty around, because there isn't room to do much else. They had a decent drink menu which is always welcome when we all go out. Tried a few different martinis, wines, and beers. All were just fine and dandy. The food was pretty good also. Nothing that was absolutely amazing, but all pretty good. The service is where this place was seriously lacking. They only dedicated one server to us, and frankly that wasn't nearly enough. It took is a little over 3 hours to have dinner. Once we asked for our checks, they did not arrive for about 25-30 minutes. I know, I know... you say we had a large party, but dang, closing out tickets can't be all that complicated, especially since we told you upfront who was on what check. I don't know if I will ever be back, only because it's geographic location isn't anywhere I visit regularly, unless of course I go to SugarFire, and this place will never win my heart over SF. A hot tip though, is they have a 40 dollar open bar NYE party, so if you live close, that seems to be the bargain of the night for sure! read more

Worst service I have ever experienced at any restaurant. Service was ridiculously slow even for a Friday night (over an hour and a half and no bread or salad). Waitress was so rude and seemed to be going out of her way to ignore us. The manager was very confrontational and instead of a simple apology we we're chastised like children for complaining. Needless to say we left before our food arrived and will not be returning. Until they have new management I would never recommend Massas. read more

Overall the food was very good and the service (bartender) was great. I don't want to go to chain restaurants ever and especially when I am traveling on business. I sat at the bar and ordered a half Italian salad (not on the menu but they accommodated my request. And I ordered the mussels as my main course. Both were really good. I only have one minor issue. The broth on the mussels was delicious but the bread served with them tasted like something you would get from a grocery store. It pretty much dissolved in the broth. Use a good bakery french bread! It makes big difference. Prices were pretty cheap but I am from a major city. I would easily pay another $1 for those musssels with good bread! Next time I am back I will stop again. read more

Three of us had lunch here recently. We were seated quickly and drink orders taken. Our lunch orders were taken quickly. Shortly after ordering a man came out from the kitchen with an entree and salad and delivered them to our table. Both were items that had been ordered. Since not everyone's lunch was delivered, no one started eating. After 5 minutes our server came over, said the items were not for us, and took them to another table. I find that concerning. I understand food going to the wrong table, but to then take it to someone else 5 minutes later? That does not seem safe to me. Once our meals were delivered, everything was delicious. read more

I went to Massas with a group of ladies and the service was so awful that all 10 of us got up and left before our food arrived. We were seated for over an hour before anyone took our orders, and after an hour and a half we still had not received our food. Our waitress was rude and told us that she couldn't wait to get off work and get wasted. We observed the manager and our waitress taking shots with customers, but they were too busy to wait on us. When we complained to the manager about the slow service he commented that it was a Friday night and they were busy. We left and had a good meal next door at Rookies. This was the absolute worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. read more

We had a group of 11 people meet on Wednesday night to watch the Cardinals take on the Angels at 9pm. The restaurant was not very crowded but the music was EXTREMELY loud. We couldn't talk to each other from across the table. We asked if they could turn the music down as no one was up dancing or seemed to be there to enjoy club type music. I had the pleasure of eating at Massa's in St Charles last week while on an annual road trip with a friend. The atomsphere was nice and very freindly, the food was good. The best part of my experience was the personnel. April, our waitress, was very personable and sweet. She gave us GREAT recommendations for food and drinks, ie the cotton candy drink, blueberry mojito, chicken bianco. The bartender, do not know his name, came over and asked us about our drinks. The owner/manager, Tony, checked on us about our meal. He even took some time and chatted with us. If in the area again, I would definitely stop in to eat and drink. My first visit to Massa's did not disappoint! While the decor was odd, the food was great. The fettuccine alfredo was delicious...not too heavy and a great portion (and lunch the next day). However, my friend ordered the pepperoni pizza, and it instantly became my favorite St. Louis pizza after one bite. It was cooked perfectly, and the combination of the thin crust and provel cheese is one that always wins in my book. Will definitely be back! read more
