Love Massas. It's not the easiest place to reach, but it doesn't seem to hurt business. I came in from Quincy, while my girlfriends flight was delayed, I stopped in here. The old school decor circa late sixties was the best thing about this place-cool as hell. Was in St. Louis for work for two weeks and went to Massa's on recommendation from the hotel. The hotel is close to the airport, and there wasn't much in the immediate vicinity. I ended up going there 3 times in the two weeks I was there it was so good. I had three different items and all I would definately have again. Absolutely delicious, all of them. My co-workers the first time with me raved about it to the group coming the second week, so they made sure I took them to, which I had already planned on 'cause I wanted to go back. My family also came for 2 days while I was there and I took them too. Nobody had a bad meal. Portions are large, but can still fit in either an appetizer or dessert, but not both! It's hard to get to. We almost drove through a cemetery to find the place. "The Hill" is suppose to be the place for Italian in St. Louis, but it's not worth the drive for great Italian and good prices if you're close to the airport. read more

This was an interesting spot. My wife and I and another couple stopped in here to grab a bite to eat before our concert Tuesday night. Now give this place 3 Stars based strictly on the decor and mixed reviews within the group on the food. So for starters, when you walk in through the door you are standing in the dining room. Yes, right next to a table of individuals enjoying their meal. There's no Hostess area, so you are standing awkwardly in the middle of a dining room next to another table waiting for someone to point you in the right direction. It was very odd write off the bat. We were met by a friendly woman who showed us to a table for 4 and immediately took our drink order. They were very prompt and the service was exceptional. We never did without the drink, bread, or anything else for that matter. You can tell from the photos that the restaurant is very dim and dark. The walls are a dark red and black, the decor is very outdated, and the lighting was a hodgepodge of different types of chandeliers. The carpet is old and dingy and the two window units were the only thing trying to keep the place cool. I'll keep in mind, that this restaurant is serving $26 plates. On to the food! I ordered the Tutta Mare and my wife ordered a baked ziti of some sort. My friends ordered the chicken parmesan and the carbonara. My meal was exceptional! It was well seasoned, the pasta was perfectly I'll dente, and the light cream sauce was perfect. My friend that order the carbonara, said there's was exceptional as well. As for the baked pasta, it was a big pasta, nothing exceptional and they covered it with a provel cheese instead of your typical mozzarella. The red sauce was a little underwhelming. My friend that order the chicken parmesan had the very same thing to say about his, it was nothing extraordinary and the red sauce was underwhelming as well. So it seems that if you ordered anything with a white sauce or a cream base sauce, it was very good. The red sauce pastas were a little boring if you will. Overall, not a bad place to eat but expect to spend $16 for a pasta up to $26 for a plate. The decor is very outdated to say the least and they should invest in updating the look of the place. read more

Okay so we've been going to Massa's for over 20 years and had a very bad experience tonight. Just across from us at the waitress station a man in shorts and a tattered T-shirt with holes in it starts yelling at the waitress helper. Cursing with every bad word imaginable. People next to us got up and left. My hands were shaking. I asked the waitress who this man was and asked if he was related to somebody who owned the company cause he couldn't possibly be there as an employee. The waitress said he was the Saturday night manager and he was having a bad night. It was the worst experience I've had in a very long time. This man shall should be fired immediately. To start, the location is inconvenient, the parking lot is too small, the building is not handicap accessible, and walking in the front door feels like you're walking in the back rather than the main entrance. The parking lot was overflowing, and the interior was almost pretty, so we had hopes that the food would be decent. We were put in the very corner. Service took too long to get our order and even longer to bring our food. The bathrooms are difficult to access. There is an enormous pole in the middle of the walkway of the bar area to get to the men's bathroom; you have to turn sideways. The building is dark but loud. The cannelloni was straight provel filled with spinach. Don't get me wrong; I love provel. But I should taste more, and there is such as a thing as too much of a good thing. I imagine the pizzas taste identical but crunchier. Through sight, taste, and texture, I could not sense any meat whatsoever. $13 for it and $5 more if you want a side salad that should be included considering you're not getting a side. Dinners include a side and a salad and are $20-32; totally overpriced if they are anything like the pastas. The Fettuccine with Broccoli & Mushrooms was a similar disappointment. Both entrees had noodles that were hard--either underboiled or overbaked; the cannelloni had be to cut with a serrated knife. They overdid the sauce with both entrees, and the broccoli was not cooked enough. We weren't expecting anything amazing despite how busy it was, but this was probably the worst "Italian" food ever; worse than Olive Garden even. It took an hour even though we didn't get appetizers, salads, or sides and took most of it to go (but eating leftovers will be a chore). The only redeeming quality was we were given 3 baskets of bread as we waited, some of which was warm, and the butter was very spreadable. read more

Adam along with katie & Toni were outstanding! The Pepe burger was amazing, and if you like pasta I highly recommend the Cannelloni.

Ordered pick up. Got there well before it was ready. The menu i ordwred from said toasted ravs were 6.95 amd salad was 7.50. Check said 9.99 for each. They explained it was an old price so i said whatevwr and paid it. When it's good it's great bit this place can be hit or miss. I'm not one to complain, I mean I almost never do, but what a waste of $45 tonight. Gf is sick so I ordered to pick up. Asked for well done pizza and toasted ravs. Not even close. Pizza was cold when they handed it to me. Toasted ravs were cold and squishy, could've been microwaved it seemed. Neither well done. Request just went ignored like I'm in line at Jack in the box. So I put the $45 worth of food in the oven (minus the salad that was lacking cheese and onion). So BEWARE. When you order there you may have a similar experience. Not worth the drive and price. We stumbled upon this place when our flight was canceled and we had to spend the night in St. Louis. I think it must have been divine intervention, because Massa's is heaven on earth. You cannot beat this hole in the wall Italian place. Fabulous, delicious, affordable dishes that we couldn't finish. We all agreed that, if we were going to our houses, instead of a hotel, we would definitely taken the leftovers with us. We had drinks, appetizers and entrees for four hungry diners, for $125. Absolutely love Massa's. It's dark, noisy and wonderful. About 16 tables and a full bar in the back. You have to try it. read more

Cost is fair for the quality and quantity when it comes to the entres, however the Stuffed Seafood Portobello is overpriced considering you only get one big mushroom for $11. I was here from Nashville for business and the Embassy Suites staff recommend this restaurant. The hotel shuttle dropped me off and picked me up. Liked this place - it's unique and charming. The lighting is indeed dim, and I like the cozy, intimate feel. It happened to be very loud when I visited, which was my first time, and I'd like to go back to observe what it's like to not have a huge, loud, drinking family sitting across from me, with children running everywhere. Please note that this is purely an observation and did not affect my rating. Like I said, probably an anomaly. I will echo another person's observation that it's really awkward when you walk in - there is no hostess or signage or indication of what to do, and you're standing right in front of tables, and everyone is ignoring you. I actually thought about turning around and leaving I had that exact same experience. But once seated all was good. I had a martini and it was great, and the chicken bianco which was also great. I look forward to trying more dishes at this place. Massa's is a local favorite that can compete with The Hill for good Italian food. The staff are good and there is not much turnover. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, though a bit cramped and dimly lit. The Caesar salad is the best in STL, perhaps the country. The pasta dishes are wonderful and generous--you might want to share the pasta entree between two. The Tuto Mare is spicy/creamy and the salmon melts in your mouth. The pizza is some of STL's best. read more

Came here with a large group from a conference on 9/16/2013. The restaurant is across the freeway from the Crowne Plaza hotel, and a hotel shuttle took us there. Once there, we were seated immediately, with the waitresses pushing tables together to fit 10 of us. No draft beer, so I ordered bottled beer. A couple of my group ordered a "Sexy Alligator", which they liked very much - although they couldn't identify some of the flavors in the drink! I got a stuffed portabello mushroom appetizer that was FANTASTIC! I also tried a toasted ravioli from someone else's order, which wasn't all that great compared to the stuffed mushroom. For the entree I ordered Chicken Bianca, which is a chicken breast sauteed with a white sauce and mushrooms. The Chicken Bianca was very good. Moist chicken, tasty sauce with not too much wine flavor. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The only complaint I have is that the place is so dark I literally had trouble reading the menu. I recommend this place to anyone who happens to be in the area. read more

This a classic, dark, almost "speak-easy" restaurant, perfect for a great dinner for 2 or 10. Small, cozy, it just makes you want to relax and enjoy. Wife and I enjoyed their classic Italian salad - fresh, crisp greens and veggies - with their house Italian dressing. She had the Modiga - perfectly cooked tenderloin medallions in a traditional sauce, and loved it. I had the Bleu Medallions, again cooked to the perfect rare I requested. A tad too much blue cheese for me, but it was easily left on the plate for each bite of steak. (Later consumed on their bread). The surprise of the night was the broccoli- could NOT have been more perfectly cooked, and the garlic-butter was awesome. The bartender knows what he's doing, the wine list is short but well balanced - this is now my go-to place in the Lambert airport area. read more

i really don't understand the positive reviews....my experience with Massa's is terrible...i gave them the benefit of the doubt and went not once, not twice, but THREE times and each experience was worse than the last.. my last dining experience including seating us at a table scrunched up against the bar, we literally had people standing at the bar with their a$$es i our face... the parking is atrocious....no lines delineating parking spaces, limited parking, and no waiting area for seating. you literally have to stand in a doorway i ordered a martini and it came to me with FOAM frothing on top, i have literally never seen a martini look that way and when i questioned the waitress she said ' i KNOW how to make a martini' and i said yes, i KNOW what a martini should look like and taste like...i'm convinced that there was dish detergent in the shaker, never seen anything like it... our food was awful,, DH ordered steak 'tenderloin' and should have been named steak TOUGHLOIN....he barely at half...i ordered the shrimp scampi and it was room temp when it arrived...the pasta was soggy, the shrimp was not properly cooked..... again, this was our third time with bad service and even worse food and not even a decent cocktail! our bill was nearly $100 for two... save your money and aggravation and avoid this TERRIBLE 'italian' restaurant read more

I love Massa's! I have been eating here since I was little with my family. The food is as good as it was 12 years ago. The chef salad with house dressing is amazing, along with the cheese bread, stuffed mushroom to start your meal. I usually get the tortellini or the tuttamare for my dinner. Their cream sauce is just perfect. I have had their pizza and it was good, but I think their pasta is just to good not to get. My husband gets something new every time we go. He loves their steak and last night he got their chicken parm. He said the parm was a little heavy on the sauce, but served with the fettuccini Alfredo was awesome. We go here usually to celebrate our anniversaries, birthday's, and just plain date night. We were there last night for our last night out before our second child arrives. So happy every time I leave :) such good food and service! read more

Terrible! Pulling up felt like we were in a scene out of good fellas. Looking past the exterior we had an open mind. However, once inside it was very dark and barely lit and we felt like we were in aunt Margie's living room at the mobile home park. The ambiance was complete with the 1970s flea market paintings and the rocking 1987 boom box on the bar blaring 70s rock. The waitress was very pleasant and sweet. She deserves a star for her customer service. In terms of the food, too much cheese on the no garlic, garlic bread, the sauce on our spaghetti and ravioli had a metal taste. All in all not a great meal. The other plus was the num chuck wheeling bartender who added comedic relief to a disappointing meal. Don't plan to hit this place next time we are in St. louis. read more

This place is the bomb!!!! Very old school but great food, especially if you like provel cheese and I do. Had the garlic cheese bread which is six huge slices of bread with a ton of melted provel cheese on top. The house salad which is six dollars for a small or a two dollar up charge with a dinner is awesome. Lots of salami, cheese and a hot pepper or two. The pasta dishes are great, especially the baked dishes. Pizza looked great and many people ordered it. Next time for me. I have stayed near the airport for business many times over the past ten years and have never come here. I should have come sooner, it is great. read more

The service was not good. When we got there there was a small hand written sign saying "please wait to be seated". No one ever came to greet us. Another couple came in after us, who obviously had been there before, they walked right in and went around the corner to the bar. They got on list before us, and then got a table first. Waitress saw us and ignored us., once we went to bar also, we got on the list and got a table about 20 minutes later. The Italian salad was very good and the cheesy garlic bread was also very good. The pizza, however, was the worst pizza I have ever had! It was loaded with what tasted like velveeta or American cheese. It had no flavor. It was gross!!!
