While in the STL area for an event, we stayed close by and ordered takeout. I'm glad we did takeout because the restaurant was pretty fancy on the inside. The downside is that the food is pretty expensive. It is very delicious. I tried the tortellini with brased beef, which probably would have been too salty for the average person, but I loved it! I decided to go to try their happy hour. On Mondays it's from 3:00 to 8:30 and it's only available in the bar area. In the middle of the bar area there are two long tables with some smaller tables on the side. Those long tables are so uncomfortable, it's like sitting at a pool table. So we moved to the bar. This place is really dark but the great service made up for it. We ended up not ordering anything on the happy hour menu. I had the capicola pizza and it was so good. For years I thought it was an upscale boutique and boy was I wrong, it's a fantastic bar/ restaurant serving up absolutely phenomenal food and perfect drinks. Having toasted ravioli for my main course was definitley the move. It was filling by themselves. The ravs were big, full and delicious. I recently had a group lunch here based on a friend's suggestion. I can't believe I haven't been here sooner! I LOVE Trattoria Marcella so once she told me it's the same owners, I was delighted. Always happy to discover a unique, locally owned restaurant in the county. Mia Sorella is in a central location & conveniently off 141. However, the parking lot is shared with many other popular businesses so you parking can be an issue. Right now, it is decorated for the holidays & feels warm & festive. The food was delicious. My friend ordered toasted ravioli for the table which I'm not always a fan of. These are easily my faves in the area! Perfectly stuffed and fried, not too chewy nor heavy. Very delicious. I was between ordering Margherita pizza, chicken caesar panini, or spaghetti and meatballs. I ended up ordering the Margherita pizza (Neapolitan style - STL style was also an option). It was delicious though the dough was a little soft. They also provide a basic bread service (sliced bread & butter), which I always appreciate. I'll just have to come back to try the panini & pasta ;) Another thing - they don't take reservations so expect to wait and try to dine at an off-peak time if possible. I haven't been here in quite a few years. We try to go for dinner and there isn't usually available parking. The parking lot is far too small for the businesses where Mia Sorella is located. I was going to lunch with a friend and she suggested going here. While the parking lot was pretty full, I did find a space! We were seated right away. I think the dining room was about 80% full. I don't know how many servers there were, but the one we had seemed to be very busy. Our drink order was taken right away. About 10 minutes later, our server came by and asked what my drink order was. It was a Diet Coke - nothing special! There are so many good things in the menu and it took us a few minutes to make our choices. We were chatting so I don't know how long it took for our food to come out, but it seems like we got it fairly quickly. Walking through the dining room as we were leaving, I noticed how shabby it's getting in there. The tables and chairs have taken a beating over the years. I think it's time for a refresh. Great Italian dishes in a festive setting. We went when they had decorated for Christmas- so fun! The fresh bread at the table was very good. For an appetizer, toasted ravioli is the way to go. It is some of the best I have ever had. For my meal, I went with the spaghetti and meatballs. Amazing! The flavor was excellent, and the meatballs were tender and juicy, not dried out or too dense. They were baseball-sized, so I only made it through half of a meatball at lunch. Everyone at the table enjoyed their dishes: tortellini, rigatoni, pizza. Our server was very kind and attentive. She boxed our leftovers for us. The only drawback- parking was limited for lunch on a Friday. There are other popular shops and restaurants sharing the parking lot. We were visiting from out of town for a soccer tournament, and this restaurant came highly recommended to us. We started with the ravioli appetizer, which was amazing. Our pastas were all made fresh and the red sauce and white sauce were both some of the best that I've ever had. My guest had the grilled chicken caesar salad panini and I enjoyed the veal piccata. The flavors were bold and each bite stood out on their own. I was too full on table bread and my meal to try dessert but I will be back. For accessibility the entrance and restroom doors were on the heavier side and the marked accessible bathroom was odd. Came for dinner on a Tuesday night after happy hour. As we arrived it was very busy. The parking lot is shared with multiple businesses and resturants so parking can get pretty tight. We were surprised to see how busy it was ok a Tuesday but we were able to get seated quickly. We had 6 in our party and they sat us in a really tight booth. It's not a place that can accommodate large groups. For starters we ordered toasted ravioli. The were big and so good. We wish we ordered 2 but we'll remember next time. Our entrée came and they were nice size portions. My boys ordered an original cheese pizza and kids pasta with shrimp. The portion was huge. A couple people ordered the lasagna which looked really good and was told it taste good. I had a small salad with salmon. The salad was good and salmon cooked perfectly. We didn't try desert because what they ordered wasn't appealing to us but we sold come here for dinner again. Oh, beware that it is very noisy in the resturant. Our was hard for us to have a meaningful conversation because we couldn't hear each other. The lighting is very dark as well. read more

Marcella's Mia Sorella is a fabulous restaurant. The food is great and in a great location. The only suggestion I could give the restaurant is that sometimes people are creatures of habit and find something they love at a restaurant and it's their go to food. This chicken dish was made by a previous chef at Marcella's and was the BEST chicken dish I have ever had. When I described the restaurant to friends I also described this dish. Ambience is comfortable with heavy wood furniture and leather banquettes against the wall. The bar area seems popular. Lighting is a little dim, which I like. We went when there were not many people, but I would think it could get loud at peak times. We started with a Sicilian martini for me - it was light and bright, not strong at all. My husband had a Jones root beer only that's not what we received. He received a crappy IBC root beer. We asked why it wasn't Jones and were told recently changed and the menu hadn't been updated. I asked if it was still $5 because Jones root beer runs $3-4 a bottle whereas IBC is about a dollar. She said it was still $5. We found that disappointing and misleading, but in all fairness she offered to bring him something else. Complimentary bread was nice and the butter was high quality. Toasted ravioli consisted of flavorful large pillows. The sauce was a great marinara which allowed the flavor of the ravioli to come through. It was delicious. Salads were next. He had a small Caesar and I had a small Marcella's salad. He loved the Caesar which had a lemony anchovy dressing that was light and not garlicky. The cheese was grated and the croutons were plain, no discernible seasoning nor oil or butter. He loved it, but it would not be my first choice for a Caesar. The Marcella's salad had fresh greens,small garbanzo beans, various other ingredients and a light dressing. It was very good and well balanced. Unfortunately there was a short dark hair on the plate. These things happen. I did not tell the server but it grossed me out. The picture is of the pizza, which was very good. We ordered the classic Pauly D's. Ingredients were fresh. Crust was crunchy but not crispy. It was good - a little smaller than I would expect for $24, but inflation is everywhere. The server was efficient, friendly, and good although she disappeared for 20 minutes when we were ready to go - again the kind of annoyance that can happen anywhere. I was disappointed she did not offer to remove the crappy IBC root beer from the bill. $5 for a bottle of cheap root beer is a joke. Also note that although they did not update the menu to read IBC root beer, they sure updated the check out system. I found that shady. Overall, food is high quality. Price is fairly high, too. I would go back during off hours, but not at peak times because it would be too loud for me. read more

We visited Mia Sorella for the first time a couple of nights ago. I've heard of the restaurant for years and I'm sad I never went before, We arrived about 6:30 on Thursday night. It was crowded an we had a 25 minute wait, as they do not take reservations. The restaurant is is nice. It's open and warm with a bar open to the sidewalk with seating outside. After the short wait we were seated and promptly greeted by our server Amanda, and supporting staff. They took our drink order and offered tap or sparkling water, They brought the drinks and warm, fresh bread to our table. The cocktails were great. Tasty, well made, and not all mixer. We were shared the specials of the day and given time to review the menu and make our choices. On the server's return my kids and their significant others each share Caeser salads while I opted for the house Insalata Mista. For entrees we ordered Chicken Parmesan; Fusilli with Roasted Chicken, Prosciutto, Spinach in a Smoked Mozzarella Demi Cream; two orders of Pantacce nToscane (Magic Carpet Shaped Pasta with Roasted Salmon, Zucchini, Mushrooms, Tomato, White Wine-Lemon Sauce); and I had the Pappardelle pasta (Fennel Sausage, Mushrooms, Spinach, Caramelized Onions, Marsala Cream). The salads came a short time later. The Caesar salads were bright and crisp, perfectly dressed and delicious. Big enough for two to share without being enormous. My Insalata Mista house salad was delicious and big enough to be shared. Mixed greens with a balance of red onion, artichoke hearts, parmesan, with a light and delicious red wine/mustard vinaigrette. Very delicious openers to our meal. My only criticism is they should offer fresh ground black pepper for the salads. Next came our entrees . . . with more of the fresh Italian bread. The Chicken Parmesan was delicious, lightly breaded chicken breast, crispy with a flavorful rich tomato sauce abd mozzarella cheese, and a side of spaghetti pasta in tomato sauce as well, White sauce pasta is also an option. The Pantacce Toscane was another great dish. The roasted salmon, tomatoes, mushroom and zucchini all perfectly cooked in the light white wine and lemon sauce matched perfectly with the salmon. The Fusilli pasta dish another hit. Roast Chicken tossed with roasted chicken, prosciutto, and spinach with a smoked mozzarella cream sauce, Rich, creamy goodness in a bowl. I had the Pappardelle pasta. It was the best of the table, fresh pappardelle with fennel sausage, mushrooms, spinach, and caramelized onions in a marsala cream sauce. Fantastic! The fennel sausage popped the the marsala cream. It was delightfully rich and filling with enough left over for lunch the next day. This place is a hit and one of the better restaurants in the Ballwin/Chesterfield area. The pasta was all fresh and delicious. Perfectly al dente. Thoughtful and well prepared dishes. Great cheerful service and attention to our table. Try this restaurant. You won't be disappointed. We will be back for sure to try their other dishes and I bet their pizza is great too! read more

Went to Mia Sorella on a Saturday evening, they do not take reservations so we showed up early around 5:30 to avoid long wait times. Table for 4 took about 15 minutes. We started with wine & arancini. Love that they offer different oz option for the wine versus glass or bottle. I split a small mista salad, and it was really good not too heavy with the dressing. I had the special seafood lasagna, I really enjoy fish & seafood dishes and that's typically my go to when eating out but there was like an overwhelming amount of fish and some of a little more fishy than I prefer , other than that the sauce & portion size was amazing. My sister got the spicy rigatoni & added shrimp & mushrooms her dish was my favorite thing I had all night and I regretted not just getting the same thing. I ended the night with a tiramisu martini, and it was underwhelming. I have had much better but it happened to be on sale that night so all in all wasn't too bad for the sale price. My wife was feeling a little hungry mid-afternoon today, so we decided to try the Happy Hour menu at Mia Sorella. Very good! They offer a selection of entrees that range $5-10 each, and their happy hour pricing on drinks (house wines at $5 each (good pour) and a house gin or vodka martini for $7). My wife ordered a house salad, shrimp scampi and an order of their Parmesan fries. I'd just returned from a Christmas lunch, wasn't interested in anything to eat, but enjoyed one of their house martini's (nice and cold, just as I like it), while she had a glass of their house wine (red). The salad she said was delicious, a big portion with ample red onions and tomatoes...she didn't finish it. The shrimp scampi was a bit on the small side, maybe 6 small sized prawns in a red sauce, good she said, but not great. The Parmesan fries were huge and good tasting, I tried a few and she ended up taking about 1/2 the order home with us. Their happy hour menu is served only in the bar which has 2 large family style tables to sit at along with 2 or 3 small 2-top tables along the windows in the front of the restaurant. Easy to find a place to sit when arrived about 3 pm, but the place filled up quickly and was bumpin' when we left about 5 pm. Nice choices and good tasting food if you like an early dinner or a late afternoon snack. Service was OK, but not great. Our waiter was attentive to us and kept our drinks refilled, but it seemed like it took a while to get all the items my wife ordered to our table. We have dined at Mia many times but now we just order delivery. Yesterday was our 58th anniversary & decided to order delivery (2 Fillet Mignon, 2 white pastas & asparagus. Of course we only ate one steak between us & one pasta side, but both ate the asparagus. I ordered the steak med rare, only bc they were 2-3 oz fillets & when they arrived, they were absolutely perfect for a mild re-heat. We generally get our steak "medium". It was so good ! The wait staff was very giant good and attentive. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, it was good but disappointing. The spaghetti alone was excellent, the meatballs were very disappointing. The meatballs were giant but that did not make up for the fact that they were very dry. It was obvious that when they were put on top of the spaghetti, it was the first encounter with the spaghetti sauce, they were likely boiled in water to cook them. Putting everything together in a bowl that hardly held everything made it difficult to eat and use a knife to cut up the meatballs. You could nut eat them with just a fork. The waitress was good at bringing extra sauce to make the meatballs edible. A larger bowl would be better. Making the meatballs in sauce would be great and soften them up and add taste to them. What a great night and location for a business dinner. The place was busy but we were still able to hold conversations and the staff gave us space and didn't rush us. Arrived at 7 and occupied for 90 min until kitchen closed. If you want to hang out and have some bar food, Mondays the time from 3 to close. Special menu and prices. They don't call it happy hour but it is. Bar seating is decent due to some large tables. Monday did seem to have an order crowd but I'm. It sure that's every Monday. The Cannelloni Al Forno was fantastic. Light vs my colleagues fettuccini. The meatball app is very good and quite filling. The toasted ravs are made in house each day (as I understand it) and come 6 large to a portion. The red sauce was perfection, it found its way onto bread and ravs alike. A group of 10 of us planned for dinner here on a Saturday night. I was really nervous since they don't take reservations but they know what they are doing! We were advised to call ahead on Saturday after 4:00 ticket them know we were coming. We got there about 15 minutes early and they let us know we would be seated in about 15 minutes. They got is in right on time. Everyone was super friendly. Our waitress was super nice and efficient, she explained all the specials, helped us choose drinks and kept up with everything the entire meal while also having several other tables. The place was super busy as it has been on other visits. I ordered Beef Carpaccio as an appetizer, loved everything about it except it was a little heavy Jon the aioli. For my entree I went with the fish special. Corvino with a white wine lemon butter sauce and capers, served with cauliflower and asparagus. I was unfamiliar with the fish and the waitress explained it was a whitefish. i was super pleased with my selection, it was really good. How can you go wrong when capers are involved? The fish was a firm whitefish that was super flaky. Very good. I try to always take home half my entree and it was hard to stop eating! Super efficient staff, great food, great service. read more

Mia Sorella has become a favorite of mine, especially for Happy Hour. You leave suburbia behind once you walk through the curtained entrance into the bar area. The restaurant offers warm wood tones with a Tuscany feel. The bar area is great with two long tables for larger parties or communal experience. The actual bar offers a lot of seating as well. To note, however is there is no bar rail for feet and the tables have an apron around the bottom that can be a little uncomfortable. To me, not a reason not to go, just good to know. The restaurant area is comfy and open, with a view of the open kitchen. The staff, especially the hostesses and bartenders are extremely friendly and welcoming. The food is just delicious! It isn't typical STL Italian. While offering many of the STL favorites Mia Sorella takes it up a couple notches. The toasted ravioli is one of the best in St. Louis. Large, crispy with an amazing beef filling it is filling and wonderful. The pasta is fresh with wonderful sauces that taste like they were made with love. And, you should not pass up the truffle fries, Brussel sprout salad, tenderloin on baguette, or meatball slider. Cocktails are good with a good poor and some really good wine selection. Happy hour 3:00-6:00 can get crowded. No reservations. Easy pick-up for to go orders. Great value for a great product and atmosphere. read more

This is the place to be apparently! And the food is amazing! I met up with two of my besties for a Friday night out. We were not able to sit in the bar area for happy hour (it was packed!) so we sat at a table in the dining room. We enjoyed that better anyway. Our server was delightful. We started with Aperol spritzes and an order of calamari. So good!! Get the calamari! I selected the papardelle pasta and it was divine. OnThursday night (4/(24) was dinner with our county friends. Their choice. They chose Marcella's Mia Sorella restaurant in Ballwin. This Italian restaurant is a sister restaurant to the city restaurant Trattoria Marcella. They have different menus purposely to keep it interesting and leaving options to enjoy both restaurants and experience a great dinner fare and atmosphere. Rachel, our server was exceptional helping with my dinner choices. I liked the chicken risotto but also the lasagna was tempting. Rachel liked the Risotto but I was in a meat sauce mood. I chose the lasagna and I was not disappointed. we shared an appetizer of eggplant Parmigiano It was tender melt in your mouth flavor. The sauce was sweet and cheesy. My wife got the chicken risotto that was delicous, she let me taste it for this review. It was tender and creamy and the chicken was flavorful, it appeared that the chicken had been marinated with garlic which does not agree with my wife and sometimes it makes for a long night. Italian restaurants can make sauces for her without garlic. It is the chicken this time that made it interesting. We had red and white wine a Cab (Route Stock) and Chardonnay . This restaurant does it well and knows how to make a night to remember. Try this restaurant and it's sister city location to see for yourself. You will not be disappointed. read more
