I went here with a group of colleagues for a dinner to honor our boss in town and it did not disappoint! The main highlight was obviously the food. We ordered appetizers of calamari, salmon, and salads which were all yummy. But the highlight would be my filet. It was cooked to perfection and the sauce and mushrooms were a beautiful flavorful touch. We also ordered a bolognese and risotto for the table just to try all the pasta and they were EXCEPTIONAL. Our server was good! Very quick and responsive. Could have been a bit more knowledgeable around the menu, but we were also her first customer of the night so that could have been it. This is just a great place. Atmosphere is upscale, perfect for date night, also great for dining with friends. It is quiet inside and the service is top notch. We dined with another couple and everyone loved their food and drinks. Their house wines are delicious, inexpensive and the bartenders give a solid pour. I loved the Tomato Salad with Mozzarella, Anchovies and Basil. It was fresh tasting and was enhanced by the bread served table side. For my entree I ordered the Lobster Ravioli in a cream sauce and it was perfect! The lobster in the ravioli's tasted fresh and clean and the sauce was luxurious and full of flavor. The bread came in handy as I did everything possible to get every bit of sauce off the plate. My meal was so good, I doubt that I could order anything else for fear of missing out again on a truly outstanding meal. read more

I served in fine dining (for STL) for 10+yrs, and this isn't close. Our server was annoyed from his first approach to the table. Mechanically service was fine (food timing, clearing, etc) but service was bare minimum. Food- My mushroom risotto was some wild rice in a soupy broth. Zero creamy body or texture and not seasoned well. My wife got the scallops special (6 scallops, mash potatoes, veg medley) and it was $60. No prices provided by the server and when even their most expensive steaks don't exceed $45, $60 is WAY out of line for that dish. I usually try a place 2-3 times before forming an opinion, but I will not be back, nor recommend this place. PS- the Caesar salad was delicious. read more

I can't even count how times I've walked past Dominic's so I decided to stop in for dinner. Bar was closed due to a leak so I grabbed a table. Restaurant was empty until folks started trickling in around 6pm. I was definitely the youngest person dining by about 25 years lol. This didn't matter as the calamari and lobster ravioli I had were very good. Calamari was super light and fried nicely. Aioli was great and the marinara I asked for on the side was perfect. Would come back for that alone. Wines by the glass were nice at $10 a piece with a generous pour. Had a rose and a pinot grigio. Lobster ravioli was a large portion, around 10 ravioli. Service was a bit weird but it was quick and to the point. Overall, I'd come back. Definitely an old school spot. read more

Was in town and typically stay and eat downtown but was told about "The Hill" area that has authentic Italian restaurants. Took a risk and hired a car to take us here for dinner. First, the area is SO much nicer than downtown and actually felt safe! It's been a long time since I've been to an authentic Italian restaurant. This place did not disappoint. It wasn't the best Italian restaurant I've been to like in the Italian market in Philly and North End in Boston but was excellent and in my top 5 or so I've been to. I would absolutely recommend people to come here and will definitely be back when I'm back in town. read more

Fabulous ambience, comfy seating! Had the shrimp elegante with spinach in a white wine lemon cream sauce, this was fabulous. Interesting a similar dish at their Hill location but with an artichoke bottom is very similar. Had their House salad which was simple yet excellent, lettuce , cheese, tomatoes and onion. Finally had the Linguini with clams, fresh clams in a white wine, garlic, butter sauce was simple, elegant and just plain delicious! The pasta was cooked perfectly el dente! Bravo read more

My husband and I were visiting from out of town and wanted to have dinner near our hotel. I was in the mood for Italian so I hopped onto Yelp and looked at what was around. Unfortunately I wish I had gone with one of the other options. This wasn't a terrible experience but it could have been much better! I'm knocking off a star for the following reasons. The service is incredibly slow! Not to make offense but the entire restaurant was filled with baby boomers and perhaps they appreciate ample time to order and eat their food, as a millennial this was more annoying than anything, to sit and wait. Second, our server was misleading. We ordered entrees and were asked what salad we wanted. Assuming it was included with the entree we selected something but as it turns out we actually ended up ordering salads we didn't really want in the first place. Finally, and the most important part. My chicken fettuccine Alfredo had absolutely no taste. I make this dish myself and it's very simple to make. To make up for it however, my husbands lobster ravioli was good. So I guess just avoid anything with a white sauce. This place has potential but they are definitely lacking in keeping up with the times, for lack of a better word. Had there been more reviews, I probably would have made a better choice and opted for someplace with much faster service and perhaps a more robust menu. read more

Cozy and intimate restaurant with a very old school feel. It's dark inside, like I'm 35 and I was close to using the candle as a light to read the menu. I get ambiance but maybe it was a bit much as the other couple we were with had to use their phone flashlights. We started with a bottle of red, our servers recommendation, and it was spectacular. It's always nice when the waiter doesn't recommend the most expensive bottle, and we were very happy with it! The toasted ravioli were fine, easy to get those anywhere in the StL. The salads were similar, standard Italian that's available all around. Then... came the entrees. I had a phenomenal lobster ravioli, my husband the pappardelle pasta with huge chunks of salcissa, our friends got the linguini salmon special. Every one of us remarked on how good the food was. Now this was really good food. I got the basic Trattoria salad and the linguini tomato basil. Both of which were really good when paired with Camus wine. The salad was lightly dressed, so not too oily and my pasta stayed hot while eating because all of the dishes were warm, so that was totally unexpected and made the meal a whole lot more pleasurable. We really liked their main courses of the restaurant here but so many other things could use improving. No matter I am sure we will be back to try it again. I would probably give it a 3 1/2 star but I think that my expectations for the level of service were too high after going to the other Dominics on the Hill. The main courses were great, the Tortelloni Quattro Formaggi, the Chicken alla Parmigiana, and the Tenderloin Monte Carlo. The calamari appetizer was also good. But the caesar salad tasted bitter. The service is really where I thought it would be much better. I expected a really high level of service after being at the Hill location but our server seemed a bit off. I have heard about this place so finally when I got to try it, I felt like it was a lot more different than I expected. First of all, I checked out their website to see what type of attire they expect and it said dressy so I figured I might as well do that, just in case. I was glad I did because when I got there, the people coming in for dinner were fairly dressy. The waitstaff were really nice, attentive, and helpful in every way. I had the calamari fritti to start with, followed by tomato alla caprese salad, and finally some linguini clams with white wine sauce. Everything was delicious and prepared just right. My high school best friends and I came here for our friend's birthday dinner on 09/23. We were so excited to dine here because we had heard great things about the food. We had a server who was not very friendly or timely, but we gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured she was just busy or having a bad night. We also noticed how long it took her to get our checks back to us after taking our cards, but understood that she had to divide everything up on separate tabs. Fast forward to last week, when we all got together again for dinner. One of our friends was talking about how she had her credit card information stolen since we had last hung out. We quickly realized that all of us had our credit card information stolen from us, with similar charges on all 5 of our cards. Since we didn't know at the time, we all separately called our respective credit card companies, had the charges reversed and ordered new cards. When we all realized it happened to us, we decided to call the restaurant to let them know there was a thief in their midst. We didn't want anything from them, except to let them know what had happened so they could remedy the situation internally. We were met with hostility, no apologies, and an unwillingness to further investigate the situation within their staff. We felt like they were accusing us of lying or trying to defame their reputation, which we would never waste our time doing. The owner even got on the phone and gave a very sarcastic response of "if you want to call the FBI, go ahead." A completely ridiculous & very disappointing response from any restaurant, let alone from a "St. Louis staple." My recommendation? Don't dine here unless you want your meal served with a side of theft. read more

We love this place. The food is great, the service is great, and the owners are great. The valet is also great. For the patron complaining about having to use the valet service, try finding another quality Clayton restaurant that doesn't have valet service. Parking in Clayton is always in short supply. Your options are to search for a spot and walk half a mile or go to the mall and eat at the food court. I have often referred to the restaurant as "Cheers" with white table cloths. We always run into friends there and the staff is included in that category as is the valet. We spend half of the year in Florida where the food is mediocre at best and when I return to St Louis the first thing I want to do is eat at Dominic's either in Clayton or on the hill. I'd like to just sit down with a bottle of wine and order most of the menu. read more

I loved this place!!! I had never been, but worked in the Clayton area, and heard good things about it, but never made it over there. I ended up going during Clayton restaurant week, and it was the best restaurant I went to! The cannelloni appetizer, veal, and Jackie's cake. Everything was fantastic! Also, the manager came over to our table just to check to make sure everything was going well, which I also appreciated. HORRIBLE. We have dined here many times and everything was great. Not any more. The place has gone down hill. We had a part of six and celebrating birthdays snd anniversaries. My cousin has silica and is gluten free. There was not one GF pasta or really anything on the menu that was good for her. The waiter could barely be understood and he was curt and rude. My husband has a nut and sesame allergy which we told the server about and he brought him a dessert with nuts on it and didn't even offered to replace it with something else. My cousin went up to the owner that evening, and told her about her experience, and her reply was if you don't like it goes somewhere else. We will NEVER go back and will make sure all our friends and family will never go back there either. From the looks of it, it looks like the restaurant is not long for this world. read more

Many people arriving appeared to be regulars and were greeted as such as they entered; I think I heard the Hostess ask "Would you like your regular table today?" This was probably the best authentic Italian that I have experienced. Started off with a glass of Chianti, best wine I have had since my trip to Italy. I ordered the Cannelloni and the sauce, a mix of white and red, was excellent, my 19 month old loved it and the pasta. The trattoria house salad was fresh with a unique mix of cherry tomatoes. Was looking forward to trying DT for the first time at my parents' 35th anniversary dinner this evening. Upon arriving at the table, my 86 year old father missed the chair and fell on the floor. Zero attempt was made by any employees present in the dining room to help in any way. The process of helping my Dad off the floor took several minutes with no assistance in sight. We debated leaving and probably should have. Service throughout the meal was indifferent. The drab beige and brown decor did nothing to ameliorate the situation. My linguine with clams was quite good. Dad enjoyed his veal piccata. The manager who we spoke to after dinner was defensive, curt, and offered no apology. This is not hospitality. read more

As a St. Louis native, I wanted to show my girlfriend all the iconic St. Louis locations and foods. We of course had to have Italian, and since the horse and carriage ride I had planned in Clayton was close to Dominic's it worked out perfectly. Our meal and service was impeccable. We started off with tapenade and bread, which was an excellent starter. My entree was Chicken Saltimbocca--the best I've ever had. Our water glasses were never empty, and they even brought out some Italian wedding cake for us to share as congratulations for our engagement earlier that day. We got a table for four, with just two of us . . . something I do so appreciate. We had our coats, our purses, all of which had their own ZIP codes! Good room. My dining partner has been here numerous times, so I asked her for a recommendation. She absolutely adores the chicken parmesan, and she recommended the lobster ravioli. The chicken parmesan was a large piece of chicken perfectly topped with tomato sauce and cheese, then broiled. It came with a couple large potato wedges (grilled?) and a vegetable combination of green beans and carrots. It looked delicious! I did get the lobster ravioli, and it was really good. Triangle-shaped raviolis in a rich brandy creme sauce. There were some peas and other vegetable additions, such as onion, artichoke and tomato. Plentiful serving. We both had to-go vessels. Fantastic service--time between courses was not rushed, plates weren't pulled out from under our noses the moment a fork was laid down. We both had fish, no pasta of any kind, very nicely done with great grilled veggies and potatoes. I need to preface this with the personal preference that I detest Italian food in the US; there is always too many noodles, too much cheese, too tomato-y, just too much everything, all the darn time! Dominic's however served some really solid food on our recent stop here for dinner. The smoked fish appetizer was some of the best I ever had! Both the trout and the salmon were fresh, with the right amount of smokiness. Our entrees were tasty as well; my scampi came with big shrimp that were seasoned and cooked perfectly. We got the creme brulee for dessert. It may have sat for a tad too long as the inside, once I cracked the surface, was not as warm as it should be, but the flavor was legit. On top of that, these folks really know how to give good service. As someone had mentioned, the pause in between courses was timed very appropriately, much better than any other "fine dining" joints in this town. Service was efficient and non-intrusive. Overall, it was a great dining experience. Admittedly this is not the kind of restaurant I usually hit up, as I found he decor a bit dated and the menu options somewhat uninspiring (call it old school I guess), but I'm happy that we tried it out. read more
