Oh....how I didn't know about this place is a mystery, but it is fantastic!! First of all...hotdish? YES!! The Tater-tot hotdish is amazing and I can't wait to try the others either. That being said, their turkey burger, salads and breakfast are wonderful too! In fact I haven't had anything not beautifully seasoned and perfectly prepared yet. I crave their pancakes in the morning and someday hope I don't have an early meeting so I can head there for breakfast before work. This is a really amazing place and the fact that they have a Happy Hour with Craft cocktails and beers, along with some great Gluten-free options for my friends means we'll be there again soon :). Oh...the only bad thing (which doesn't affect me as a patron except that it makes everyone nervous watching) are the swinging doors into the kitchen area. Might want to rethink that part since it's kind of stressful seeing servers barely make it through there with their trays loaded and hands full. I'd rather look at the kitchen than that ;). Would totally recommend this place. Went for lunch, and they had a ton of yummy breakfast and lunch options available. They were also able to accommodate for me as I'm a vegan, which I really appreciated. Their pizza was amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone eating there. I was very exited to try this place for lunch. I got there, and it was very slow. It was 12:15pm on a Monday. There was a sign that said, "wait to be seated" It took almost 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. We were seated and we asked what the soup of the day was. The waitress kind of knew, but didn't really. We skipped the soup. Then we ordered........40 minutes later, my salad came (without my side) and my friends meal came, however, it was part of her meal. Her meal was a sandwich with a side. They messed up the sandwich by only giving her half of the sandwich, and not putting the meat on it. They did comp the sandwich and my side, but waiting for 40 minutes for two messed up orders on a slow afternoon was not acceptable. The salad was ok, the sandwich was not very good and very soggy, and the hash browns were warm and flavorless at best. I tried to send an e-mail to the manager, but on their website, they don't have a "contact us" button. read more

Surprised when asked for an open booth and was told no as they keep it for larger parties. It was a booth for 4. Evidently the other phantom guests are more important than the ones in front of them. It isn't a preference for us it is a health issue. We should have politely found another restaurant, but we stayed and surprise surprise, no one sat there during our entire visit. We had dinner for the first time at The Mason Jar tonight. The food was very good, but the service was disappointing. The server was friendly and efficient, but the issue that may keep us from revisiting this restaurant is that the server brought us the check before I was finished eating. I still had a partial glass of wine and at least a third of my food to eat when she presented us with the check. We hadn't even decided if we were interested in dessert at that point. Horsesh*t. That's the only word I can use to correctly describe my experience at the Mason Jar. We met our two friends at this strip mall restaurant (scenic overviews of the Holiday gas station). We told them to save us a spot on the patio, because we'd heard good things about the patio. We were 15 mins late when we arrived. We walked in the weird entrance (are we in a Cupcake shop or a restaurant) and waited by the "please wait to be seated" sign for about 4 minutes until someone finally figured out there were customers waiting. I told the aging server our friends were in the patio and we went to join them. It was a beautiful MN night, about 74 degrees and the patio was probably 25% full. When we met our friends they told us they've been there for about 15 mins and no one had waited on them, although the table 18 inches away from them had a server checking on them every 3 minutes. When our server Robyn finally arrived, her first words where "I guess I'll be waiting on you". I knew that this was the start of a fantastic shitshow. Anywho, there are 5 of us sitting there with no menus, no silverware, no drink menus, when Robyn shows up and asks for our drink order. I'm already pissed at this point. She returns with 1 drink menu. She cowers over us as we share the drink menu and ask questions about the ridiculous tap beer list ("it's only MN beers, but no Grain Belt or anything normal people (non-hipsters) will drink). My wife is the last to look at the single drink list and it's like we're having a contest of how long we can make Robyn stand there waiting. We get our drinks and Robyn takes our food order. That's the only reason why we're here - the food. We visited a couple weeks earlier on a slow Tuesday night and found the service horsesh*t again, but the food is too good not to try it again. Back to tonight... We get our food piece-mail. Rick, the bearded flannel "bar manager" delivers the rest of our food. I politely ask him if we can have some silverware. You see...when we requested a patio table for 6, there was no water, silverware, place settings, or common sense put down on our table. Rick (with all the glorious attitude a washed out strip mall bar manager can muster) returns with one fucking silverware setting. When I ask him for more silverware, his exact words are "why don't you just tell me how many settings you need"! At this point I'm looking around for candid cameras. I look around the table and say.."ummmm....none of us have silverware" (fuckface). He prances off and returns with four more silverware and states "do you want me to hand these out to everyone"? At this point, I'm about to shove a setting up this prick's ass. I get it, your hipster dream is dead, but you are talking to someone who loves to support local restaurants and is a part of every youth athletic association in Eagan. Don't waste your time here. Two strikes and you're out. It's no wonder why this place changes names every 9 months. Food is awesome, service is horseshit. read more

The Mason Jar is a great little gem in Eagan. The menu should have something for everyone. I ordered the Pesto Salmon Salad and it was excellent and bountiful. I also had Chicken Enchilada Soup which was flavorful and served piping hot. There is a nice assortment of beer and wine. Service was timely. We sat on the patio as it is dog friendly and our two pugs enjoyed hanging out and were even served a cold bowl of water by our waitress. Cupcakes for dessert! Wednesday night is Trivia night and it looked as if there were probably several tables of "regulars" playing indoors. We will be back soon to enjoy what is left of patio season! read more

Stuck in the 'burbs with kids hungry for pizza. Yelp to the rescue. Saw this non-chain spot and thought we'd give it a whirl. Much to my dismay, its located in a strip mall, and there is not great signage to let folks know where it is. After circling the building a couple times, we discovered the mason jar under a huge cupcake sign. Okay, let's go in and see what its all about. Nice local craft beer offerings and a straightforward menu. The hostess was very friendly, bringing the kids some crayons and something to color on. After sitting there coloring for what had to be ten minutes the hostess again comes by and asks if we want drinks. She brings us water and we order the hummus plate with fresh veggies, which was a great app. Our waitress, who seemed overwhelmed with the modest level of business, finally stopped by and we ordered a Caesar salad, pizza, and a beer. Had to remind her to bring my beer over after about ten more minutes. Finally the salad and pizza arrive at the same time and we dig in. The food was fine, and the dishes were cleared promptly. Check was dropped about 5 minutes later and we were out the door. Moral of the story... Tolerate whiny kids and drive back to the city before trying to eat out in the suburbs. This was our first time visiting The Mason Jar. I had high hopes after looking at the unique menu. Contrary to many other reviewers, our service was prompt and consistent. The waitress almost checked in on us too many times. My fiance ordered the pancakes and said they were nothing special. I ordered the 10,000 Lakes Pot Pie. At first I found it tasty, tangy, and satisfying. Quickly, though, the tangy and salty flavor became very one note and overwhelming. I went here for breakfast despite the bad reviews. The young male host was nice, we were seated right away. We then waited about 10/15 minutes before any server came and they did not even bring water. We placed our order, they were not very accommodating for subbing out certain items but not a big deal. The host brought our food out- no syrup was brought with the pancakes, no ketchup for potatoes, no salsa. We asked them twice to bring them and ended up having to ask the bartender. Potatoes were not filled cooked and had to ask them to take it back to cook( and I'm not a picky person usually I just be quiet to be kind) n when they brought it back the rest of the dish was cold but I still ate it because I was starving at that point. Afterward we decided to purchase cupcake which is attached to hopefully make up for the bad food and I opened the bag to eat my cupcake in excitement to be disappointed by the fact it was hard as a rock must've been sitting there a while. I came here for lunch for a team lunch and had a great experience. The food was delicious. Service was OK, not good, not great, but not bad. I tried the cheese board and veggie burger. The veggie burger was OK and the cheese board was great. I also picked up some to go bakery items which were GREAT. I came back a 2nd time with my husband for lunch. I had the pot pie, it was delicious. My husband had the cheese board, not as good as the first one. We paid and forgot out debit card. We came back and literally had some random man ( I don't know if he's the owner , supervisor or what) tell us its going to take me some time to get your card. This is first after he said it wasn't here. Uhh, we know it's here we had lunch, and its now 3pm, He literally made my husband wait another 15 mins for them to get a card. WTH. Would I come back, meh, maybe. This last expereince though, just totally turned us off. The other issue I had was the overpriced cup cakes. I can justify up to 3.25 maybe for a large visually pretty cupcake. But $4 + for a smaller cupcake? No way. I really think this is a 3.5 place. read more

I will agree with another recent review stating the waitstaff can be overworked at times. We've eaten here a handful of times and there were a few occasions the waitress was running herself ragged. On one occasion my boyfriend asked for no mushrooms in his pot roast omelette ( our personal fave) and his was loaded with mushrooms while mine lacked any noticeable carrots and his was filled. Their french toast is amazing! I have the tomato basil soup often, and my boyfriend and I are also big fans of their chai iced tea and soda concoctions. I believe he orders the raspberry fennel or blueberry drink often and while it's too sweet for me, I can see why most people would love it. I've never had bad service here, but maybe I'm just more forgiving understanding of the restaurant industry having worked in it myself. I loe the down-home country style decor with the country cloth napkins and the mason jar lighting on the ceilings. I've never had a staff member be rude to me, even when under extreme pressure with new tables being sat, and old bites taking FOREVER to order. In regards to the previous review about management rolling eyes and what not I will say this; the last time I was in there, I forgot my purse in the restaurant and did not remember until hours late. There were a couple THOUSAND dollars cash in my purse that day, as I had not had a chance to stop to the bank. Every penny was returned, and the manager refused to let me even tip her. If that doesn't say something about etiquette and honesty, well, I don't know what does! Oh, and the gourmet cupcakes are pretty awesome as well! An added bonus if you will ! read more

This place is a gem in the rough. If it was more noticeably displayed I think they would get a lot more business. As it is, there is no obvious signs to direct people to it. It's within a strip mall which you would think would be highly visible as it's just stores side by side to one another. But not so for this place. It shares a space with a bakery called Cupcake, which happens to have a large pink sign to point it out. Other than some decals on the windows, I would have no idea it was there & would've thought my GPS was being stupid again. I believe as part of their country farm theme, the windows are boarded up with strips of fence wood. Cute, but had me thinking the place had been closed or something. The door handles are oversized whisks which I thought were a nice touch. And upon entering there are hundreds of mason jars hanging from the blue ceiling. There's a bar plus plenty of dining space with booths, tables & hightops. The food isn't anything I would call innovative or shout "Huzzah!" over. But it was very good & nicely presented. I had the turkey club sandwich & my friend had the turkey burger. The server accidentally rang in the turkey sandwich for my friend so they're was a delay in remaking her plate while mine sat in front of me. But I'm in the serving industry too & I understand that mistakes happen. She apologized profusely, gave my friend a discount on her check AND gave her a free cupcake of her choosing. So that was nice. So in conclusion, the food, service and ambience were all pretty solid on my book. If they just worked on making it more street visible they'd be golden. read more

After church on Sunday the hubs takes me out to eat. It's one of our little luxuries, day of rest and all ;). Today we went to the Mason Jar and wow! I ordered the Pulled Pork Huevos Racheros and I am already planning on going back next weekend! Hubs ordered the simple breakfast and whatever, it was just a plain affair but it satisfied his hunger. We are as different as night and day (and after 25 years of being together I totally accept that :) At the table next to us a breakfast burrito was delivered and devoured and tempted me momentarily. I thought about changing my order. But when my huevos arrived I knew I'd hit the jackpot! A couple just leaving stopped and asked what I'd ordered and I described it and having already taken my first bite, assured them that they MUST try it on their next visit. We did visit two weeks ago during their happy hour and I can recommend that as well. Love the atmosphere, love the decor, love the music, love the food and love being able to pick out one of the cities best cupcakes for dessert. I live near here and have had many lunches and dinners here. Have not been disappointed by anything I've ordered. I've had their salmon entrée and salmon salad. Love the chicken salad with candied walnuts and feta at lunch. Great décor. My daughter and I often have our little date nights here and love ending the night walking across the room to Cupcake for something sweet and fabulous! Very cute, intimate place. It's been a while but we have gone there at night and been pleasantly surprised by live music. Not sure how often they do live music. read more

My first and last time to the Mason Jar was a couple days ago. While our server seemed to be trying her best, the service was slow, and my omelet was burned, and my hash browns were under cooked. When I mentioned it to her, she said that's how they cook their eggs, and offered to bring some fried potatoes instead of the hash browns. When the fried potatoes arrived, they were burnt, and over salted - basically the kind of food you'd expect from a soup kitchen.
