Dear Sirs: My family and I have been to your Mason Jar three times to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Every time my son and I ordered the NY strip steaks, that's six steaks in total. We will let you know these were the poorest cut of steaks I have ever had in 70 years. Every bite contained a piece of tough gristle, and the body of the steak was like eating shoe leather. In addition, my son ordered a medium rare steak, and it came medium. I ordered a rare one and it came beyond medium. We were celebrating my sons 30th birthday and I didn't want to cause a scene. We came here for lunch and the place was pretty busy for a Wednesday! There was still plenty of seating inside but we opted to sit outside on their shaded patio! The service was great as well as the food. They have two patios with lots of seating and shade if needed. Calamari- really good! The breading was very light which was a plus! Kids chicken tenders & fries- very good!! Even I contemplated coming back just for that! Crispy Chicken and Mash Stack- huge portion. The broccolini was so good on it! A go to comfort meal! Had heard good things about this restaurant so made sure to go check it out. The vibe is kitschy hipster, with mason jar lights hanging from the ceiling in the main dining area. The menu has a lot of traditional Minnesotan and traditional American dishes on it with a twist. Everything that we've had has been good, though some of the prices seem a bit high for what they are. Their Charcuterie and Margherita pizzas have both been delicious, perfectly sized, and reasonably priced. My wife enjoyed the quesadilla and chips and dip trio on our most recent trip. The 3 dips were all very flavorful. The tap beer selection is okay, and focused on local, but it's not extensive. The cocktail menu is pretty good but not stand-out. The sage gimlet sounds really intriguing, but mine was too sweet and lacking in sage flavor. Our servers have been helpful, attentive, and friendly. Went here for brunch and it is a very cute restaurant. Great ambiance and decor. The staff were all very friendly. I got the brunch flight and my husband got a regular mimosa. The bloody Mary was disappointing. I don't drink coffee so my husband drank the nitro cold brew and he was not a fan. I got the breakfast quesadilla and it was amazing! Huge portions (which I was not expecting based off the description) and very tasty. It came with pico, guac and sour cream. Very very good. My husband got the MJK breakfast and he said it was kind of flavorless. No seasoning on the eggs or hash browns at all. His pancake was good, very moist but pretty sweet. The good: If you go after regular business hours, you'll find more parking spots. If you like that country chic look, they have mason jars for decor, and they use them. Cute. The bathroom area is also nice. I like that there are mini and I mean mini sinks in some of the bathrooms with doors, making it personal. A few are also all gender bathrooms. Pee'ing where a guy might have gone is not my thing. There are sinks outside the individual stalls as well. It was clean. They have desserts in a case, Sebastian Joes and a coffee bar when you walk in too. We ordered, I liked my turkey burger. My husband got the Midwest sampler of "hot dishes". I would totally order mine again, him, probably not. He said it was ok. The bad: When we were seated at our table, it took what felt like FOREVER to get a wait person to come over. We actually talked about finding another restaurant before we left because we weren't going to stay. They must have heard us, because Kyle came over with 2 small glasses of water where everyone else around us had bigger ones (not a deal breaker, just an observation). He apologized for taking so long because he was catching things up behind the bar. Appreciate that, but we already had a sour taste in our mouths. We had already knew what we were going to order, so we ordered, kept the pleasantries at a minimum, paid the bill and left. Will we be back? That is the million dollar question???? There are not a lot of places in the Eagan area that offer unique and delicious dishes that you would find in a hip city restaurant. They offer a great breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner, and have tons of different options from MN themed foods like hot dish and spam themed (okay these are novelties, spam is disgusting, yes we all know it) to cute grazing boards and steaks. They seem to change the menu seasonally, so some of the things in my photo aren't offered right now. The fries trio is no longer gluten free, which was a big blow to my family. I also definitely recommend making reservations if you are doing dinner. They can get very busy and have a significant wait time. Honestly even at lunchtime occasionally there is a wait. I gave it four stars instead of five, because no matter how busy it is, the service is always just a little bit off. Never do I feel that the staff at this restaurant are attentive, and they honestly always seem crabby, especially the guy that regularly seats people. He may be one of the owners, but I'm not sure. read more

This is an update to my October 2022 review. I have to say that I was quite disappointed in the food this time. I ordered chicken wings from the HH menu and they were overcooked, dry, and tough. They actually tasted like leftovers that had been way overheated. My two friends had a pizza and the pork belly sliders which they enjoyed. I didn't complain as the mood was too light and our server, Lauren, was a blast. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy but by the time we left, the place was packed, as usual. Consistency is key to any good restaurant and it was not as expected last night (Tuesday evening during happy hour). I'm sure I'll be back. You just never know what to expect so it will be a surprise! read more

We visited the restaurant for brunch on a Sunday. The interior is comfortable and inviting with cute mason jar decor. The food and drinks were good. The waitress was extremely helpful and friendly. I ordered a Charcuterie Pizza on Gluten free crust. It was good. I brought home 3/4 of the pizza and it reheated well also! Ordered macaroons and cupcakes from the bakery on our way out and they were delicious! I will definitely return. read more

The salad was nothing special and could be skipped, but I wanted some veggies. The birria was tender and had a great flavor. There was a perfect amount of meat and cheese on the sandwich. The dipping au ju had a great flavor. My drink, Smoldering Passion, was absolutely delicious! It had Sebastian Joe's Passion Fruit Sorbet, mezcal, lime, agave. It was perfectly balanced. Went to Mason Jar for restaurant week based on recommendations from friends. Made a reservation for 6pm on a Friday night, dining room was busy and had good energy. The dining room well put together with a nice bar near entrance as well as a desert/ice cream area. It took about 7 minutes after checking in to be seated. Service was okay, server was busy but could have spent more time describing drink options or what menu entailed. Finished plates and glasses stayed on table for most of the meal. We picked the $35 restaurant week special and it was an excellent value. Food came out quickly and was well. Overall a good experience and would recommend coming. read more

We had a reservation for six at 12:30 on a Sunday. The restaurant was very busy but we were seated at 12:35. It took awhile for our server to address our table and due to a time issue, when he did ask if we wanted to order drinks first I told him that we were ready to order. He needed to close out a table first and he would be back to us, fair enough as it was busy. I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Cornbread Waffle, $17. Highly disappointed with what arrived on my plate, with regards to the "hand-battered buttermilk fried chicken tenders". The size of the "tenders" and amount of the hard to chew chicken underneath a hard crust was less than you would find in a chicken nugget. When the server stop by to ask if everything was tasting great, I answered truthfully, no the chicken is terrible. He did offer to fry up some more for me but I declined. The waffle was good though and he did take $5 off of the $112 bill. I might try Mason Jar again but not for Brunch. This is the first time that I have photographed food and placed a review. The kitchen should never had sent that plate out like that. read more

Food is great (bison meat Swedish meatballs and the fries and three sauces were great!), drinks are pretty good (they need to change out the drinks list to match what they have available per season is my only complaint), and the desserts are peak! I just HAD to check out Mason Jar during restaurant week. They offered a three course lunch for $20 and this lunch was real good. It started with an option for soup or salad, opted with chicken wild rice soup and it totally hit the spot. For the entree I went with their chicken dish served with pancetta, green beans and potatoes. The lemon sauce was absolute heaven. Finished with a little tin of creme brulee. Super good food! I love restaurant week because it gets me to places I've been wanting to go! So many amazing options but this menu was a standout. Our server was super friendly, but was trying to cover way too many tables so service was very slow. They had plenty of parking and the ambiance was really cute. If you have a fear of being surrounded in mason jars, don't go here. Can't wait to checkout their breakfast menu! read more

This is one of my go to brunch spots in Eagan. The food is tasty and there's plenty of options so everyone in your party can find something they like. I like their espresso martini, skillets and breakfast sandwich. My mom loved the fajita omelet. Even with a reservation, there's usually about a 10 minute wait so plan ahead for that and be sure to have a reservation! My only complaint is that it gets extremely loud in here, which I've noticed isn't the easiest to bring my parents to. If you're with people who have trouble hearing or generally prefer a quieter atmosphere, this isn't it. read more

I've had this place on my radar for a minute and finally got there today. Super cute restaurant. It was full but not loud. It was busy but only waited 15 minutes for a table. Once seated we were greeted right away by our friendly server. We were pleasantly surprised that we could get breakfast at 1pm on a Monday. The menu had a nice selection making it hard to decide. Huevos Rancheros and fajita omelet were solid choices and our food came out quick. We also ordered the caramel cupcake and it was delicious! Came here with some friends for restaurant week - it really exceeded my expectations for a little place in a strip mall. I ordered the trout from the restaurant week menu. I don't normally order fish but I'm glad I did (though I am very curious about the pork chop they offered too!) It came on mashed potatoes with a little bit of broccoli rabe (could have used more veggies). One corner of my plate was INCREDIBLY salty though - maybe from the capers? A friend also ordered the trout and said hers was pretty salty as well. But no bones in the fish which is always great! For a starter we had some cheese curds. The highlight of those was the raspberry jalepeno sauce. I had a cesear salad (it was under dressed) and creme brulle for dessert. This was served a little chilled but it was super creamy and delicious (and in a disposable bowl so I could take it home :) The front of the restaurant sells bakery / desserts (including above mentioned creme brulle), ice cream and coffees. Super fun wall paper in the bathrooms too lol. Unfortunately I live quite far away so I likely won't be back any time soon, but I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area! read more

I went to Mason Jar Kitchen tonight with some friends and my wife, and the menu appeared to be very intriguing and promising. When we got there it had all the vibes of a modern trendy restaurant. The restaurant started out strong with the craft cocktails, which were very good. They were mostly gin and vodka drinks, but I was able to imbibe in the two mescal and tequila drinks which were excellent. They only had one whiskey drink which was basically an Old Fashioned by a different name. They could have had more than one whiskey drink, which is somewhat surprising because whiskey is popular right now but whatever. Appetizers came and they were decent. Nothing spectacular, but still pretty decent and better than normal chain restaurant fare. That was where the decent rating came into play. It was downhill from there. And by "downhill" I mean falling off a cliff. I ordered the Birria Burger, which is described as: "seasoned fresh beef patty topped with richly seasoned house-made birria beef, Oaxaca cheese, onion, cilantro, chipotle aioli; brioche bun; served with dipping consomé" So let's start with presentation...as you can see from the photo it was terrible. It looked like a cheap park cookout burger and just by the looks of it, it appeared to be a frozen food product patty mashed between a bun. I opened it up and saw the poorest excuse of birria meat I've ever seen. It was about a tablespoon in size. Beef birria is usually made with brisket, chuck roast or bottom round, all of which are very inexpensive cuts so there's no excuse for skimping because of cost. The Oaxaca cheese was miniscule and barely detectable. The photos show how poorly the burger was constructed and how little they put on the burger. I didn't taste any onions or cilantro in the meat. The chipotle aioli was on the bottom bun and it was barely there. I didn't even taste it. Listing it on the menu was basically a reminder of what was missing. So let's get to the meat- in short, it was disappointing. The meat was perfectly round and heavily compressed, and it looked and tasted like a pre-packaged food product. They say that it was "seasoned fresh beef", but it tasted like frozen patty. If it was actually fresh meat, it was heavily compressed to the point where it was a brick. What made it worse was that they cooked it to the point where it was well-done and completely grey and dry. There was no juice coming out of the meat, so any person could clearly see that it was drastically over-cooked. My wife, a vegetarian, even commented on how poor the burger looked. I would have sent the burger back if I thought they would have done a better job, but another friend at the table also got the same Birria Burger and his looked the same. The burger overall was an absolute disaster to where if I ever served that at my house to guests, I would be embarrassed. I hope management sees these photos and is embarrassed by them as well. It says a lot about a business when I have such little faith in a restaurant that I don't send terrible food back because I have no faith in them doing any better the second time. The beef birria itself was dry and flavorless to the point where calling it "birria" is an insult to birria. I don't even think they know what birria is- they probably just slow-cooked some beef in a stock pot and called it birria. I am both a competition barbecuer and Chicano, so I know what good meat is, how to cook it, and I know how to make juicy, moist birria. This burger was none of that. The saving grace was the birria consomé, which was very flavorful. It was vey salty, but that helped with the burger patty which was lacking in any flavor. The cilantro and onions were an added bonus. If it wasn't for the consomé, the burger would have been a complete bust. I will give them credit for the consomé, but it's too bad they couldn't produce any consistency in the rest of the food. Without the consomé this would have been one of the worst burgers I've had in a long time. The Parmesan garlic fries were decent, but you don't get very much. I dipped them in the consomé and they were even more tasty. Certainly nothing that rectifies the sin that was this burger. My wife got a margherita pizza and it was a Neopolitan style that was very mediocre. Overall this place isn't worth the time to try. The only saving graces here were quick service and good drinks. However, the drinks were even challenged because they were out of three of the beers on their menu. They even ran out of their rotating seasonal beer, which is just ridiculous given that there are 233 registered breweries in Minnesota alone. It's mid-October and there wasn't one single fall beer like an Oktoberfest or autumn ale. This is a restaurant that just doens't seem to care. If I had one piece of advice, it would be to go somewhere else. read more

The amount of times I have been here since I moved to this side of the cities in May is definitely more than I can count on one hand...we were able to get a reservation on a Friday night and get a booth spot, which was great. I was able to hear those in my party, which was very difficult some or the other times I have been here. The appetizers came incredibly quick and hot.
