Darn what a disappointment, I've had this place on my list of places to check out for a bit now. I thought I heard good things about it. I will say you did get a feeling that they were trying, but just couldn't get it to flow and work right. There was confusion on who thought they were our server. All local beers that's nice, but extremely slow service. I just wanted to leave, but we didn't:( Ordered the spinach artichoke dip, odd, processed. Burgers were over cooked. I got about 10 fries, hubbie was suppose to get waffle fries, he got regular. And they didn't even correct that. Way over priced!!! I'd like my money back. Not too far from the zoo so stopped by prior to visiting for an evening event. Made reservations via Open Table and even showing up 30 minutes earlier was able to be seated. Waitress was very friendly and prompt with the service. Ordered drinks and reviewed the menu, hard time deciding as a number of good options but ultimately got: Adult mac and cheese, was cheesy but a bit heavy on the bread crumbs. Was a toasted layer of cheese and crumbs but mixed in well and tasted good overall. Tater tot hot dish, was a good mix of beef, corn, mushroom soup, and tots. Good flavor and a hearty portion. Nashville spicy chicken sandwich with salad. Came open face - big piece of toast with an aioli, the chicken had a great spice on it and topped with b&b cucumbers. The salad was mixed greens with a flavorful dressing was a nice compliment to the sandwich. We finished the meal with their Death by chocolate bender, such a delicious combination of chocolate and coffee, and a grasshopper cupcake. read more

Solid three stars. Adorable concept but mediocre food. My partner and I both had kale Caesar salad and split the chili mac entrée. The kale Caesar was disappointing. I liked the tangy dressing, but the greens were all kale, not a kale blend which, if the kale is not properly prepared, leaves diners looking and feeling like cows. All kale (other than baby kale) requires some prep work before it can be the only salad green, or you can cut it small and mix it in with other lettuces for the same effect. At any rate, no kale was pampered before going in our bowls and our jaws felt it. As for the chili mac, first the server brought out two saucer-sized "plates" for sharing the dish. Seriously, they were the size of saucers. Diners around us were also splitting items and they got normal side-dish plates so we were confused and really just couldn't stop giggling at the tiny size of our saucer-plates. When the chili mac came, it was hot and delicious in its little cast iron pan. The elbow noodles were perfectly done and cheesy, but unfortunately the chili was nearly nonexistent. Sigh. Had it been "smothered in house-made beef chili", it would have been perfectly balanced, but it wasn't smothered with chili. There were maybe two tablespoons of chili lost in the middle. The good news is that it motivated me to run out to Cooks of Crocus Hill and get a couple of those mini cast iron pans and do my own chili mac with properly smothered chili. Why three stars? I love the idea. I love their decorations and the cupcake display and the fireplace. It's such a cute, homey concept that I was already a fan before I went in. I met a couple of girlfriends here in February for a quick bite before a meeting. They had a roaring fire that I was happy to be sitting next to but did end up moving to another chair as it was so warm. They had great happy hour deals and I was able to get a flatbread pizza that was yummy and hit the spot. More than enough to share but I will admit to eating it all! Goodness! Meh. Food was ok - it was. It was fine. Portions are very very small. Think happy hour discounted size portions. I had huevos rancheros which was a thimble of guacamole, a thimble of pico and what I think was sour cream. Throw 8-10 tortilla chips in the bottom of a cereal bowl and add 1 egg and a tablespoon of meat for $18 (pretty sure it was $18) . . . Two slices of toast was $3!!!! An ounce of ranch was .50 ( which isn't terribly unusual) my wife's lunch was the absolute smallest sandwich I've ever seen anywhere. If you go here, don't be too hungry. Finally stopped in here this morning for brunch. 1. Super cute place -- next time I'm going to aim for the table by the fire place. 2. I got the eggs benedict and substituted the ham for lobster. The only negative thing that I have to say is I noticed one employee that kept pulling his mask down, touching his hair, really doing almost zero work but would grab plates and bring them to people at the bar. It just felt kinda gross that he was touching his mask, not wearing his mask, fidgeting with his hair and pockets BUT THEN touching peoples food plates. That's why I gave 4 stars. Don't drive on by this unassuming restaurant. We stopped by this evening as my husband s and wanted a home cooked meal and it was not coming from me. He had the roast beef and I had the Seabass. All I can say is omg. After crappy service about 6 months ago, we thought we'd give them another shot. Let's just say we didn't even get a table because the two hosts (one male, one female) were so incredibly rude that we walked out. This place needs to have a company come in and tach them about what customer service looks like. So, so disappointing. If you are the owner of this establishment, you need to do better with your staff. Made a reservation on opentable for 2 of us for a Sunday at noon. Not sure if it was cause of the snow or not but the reservation was not needed but better safe than sorry right? My friend and I each got a latte, they were made very well and hot enough but not too hot where you couldn't drink them yet. My friend ordered the MJK breakfast and I got the chocolate peanut butter cupcake pancakes with a side of chorizo sausage. We both loved our options. Everything was cooked very well, the peanut butter frosting came on the side and the chocolate pancakes were just sweet enough and not overly rich! It made it so you could eat it all without feeling sick to your stomach. The wait staff was all very friendly and quick. One in our group commented that I had a plate of what she would toss away. Three of our party had chicken pot pie which they said was great in the past but had changed in flavor and size. A staple in Eagan, I found Mason Jar for the first time while dining from home during quarantine. I have since ordered tons of DoorDash and pickup meals from the Mason Jar, and I am obsessed. There has not been a single meal that has disappointed. The breakfast hotdish is my favorite go-to, as are their pancakes. For lunch I would recommend their shroom pizza or a hearty salad. Food is always fresh and I love knowing that I am supporting a local 'mom & pop'. I have not been by since COVID but can assume that the service 'in-shop' is just as wonderful. Second time around...I like to give establishments a chance however this time around there wasnt much of a differences. The service was majorly lacking. The food was over cooked part of the order forgotten. Service and quality is better at Perkins. Recommendations, don't scorch your eggs...get non-pork options. It is 2019, a little variety might serve your establishment well along with some basic customer service training. Pre-busing tables goes along way on both side customer experience and servers turning tables over faster. read more

They were reupholstering the booth seats in the middle of the dining room, loud and uncomfortable to witness while eating my food. Shows how cheap the owner is that they won't even wait until after hours to do work. Food was overpriced and just about average, mocha tasted like a latte, and the bathroom had actual poop smeared on the floor. A girlfriend and I ate at The Mason Jar on July 8th for lunch. We had a great experience - the biggest frustration was that there were so many delicious options on the menu that it was extremely difficult to choose just one. I had the Pesto Roasted Salmon sandwich (spinach, tomatoes, and lemon dill aioli on a toasted croissant roll), with tomato soup. The sandwich was HEAVENLY, I almost didn't get it because I'd never had a salmon sandwich before, but I'm so glad I did. I'm going to have a hard time trying anything else on the menu after that delicious sandwich. The soup was unusual but good - it was very chunky rather than pureed, and had a bit of a kick to it. I would have taken a picture for the review but someone ate my food before I got a chance (seriously, where did it all go?). My friend got the Pulled Pork Huevos Rancheros (layers of slow roasted pork, refried pinto beans, fried tortillas, and topped with two fried eggs, queso fresco, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo and spicy roasted tomato sauce ). They're served over chips, which was a nice surprise. I'd like to tell you that they were good, but I wouldn't know, since she slapped my hand away every time I tried to steal a bit. Needless to say, they were also incredible. Of course, we ordered cupcakes from the Cupcake bakery before we went. Cupcake is my favorite bakery in the Twin Cities. I tried something new this time (I typically go with one of my standard favorites) and got the chocolate caramel cupcake (Handle with Caramel). It didn't disappoint. The only dim spot was the service we got from the waitress. She was nice, but my glass sat empty for a good 15 minutes, and when she did bring a refill, it was for my friend (who still had half her drink). But that's not enough to keep me from going back. My first trip to The Mason Jar was with two friends. They'd already been at our table for ten minutes when I arrived (oops) and had ordered drinks and been watered. I saw several servers walking around but no one ever looked at our table or even passed us to be flagged down. There was a larger group, about 8 people, nearby and the server helped them once or twice, but it took fifteen minutes for my arrival to be acknowledged. Once we finally had his attention and I had my wine, it was clear our server thought his "charm" was all he needed to do his job well. He didn't know the menu and still barely checked on us, but when he did he acted like we should be infinitely grateful for his presence. I only ended up ordering only a cup of tomato soup, which was ok. Not terribly flavorful. The host was the most helpful employee by far and seemed to be the most industrious - she was the only one who'd refill our waters and asked if we needed anything. She's the only reason I'm leaving more than one star. Based on the service, I doubt I'll be in a hurry to go back. Also, when you drive up and see the sign for Cupcake, you're not lost. It's in the same space and there are no walls separating it from The Mason Jar, they have two separate doors, though, and depending on which way to enter the parking lot you may see one or the other first and assume you're in the wrong spot. read more

I've always enjoyed my visits to the Mason Jar, good food and pleasant service. Last week I visited and ordered pot roast as take out. I was tired, cold and needed some comfort food! Arriving home I was very disappointed to open the container to find the mashed potatoes (which tasted like the instant variety) surrounded by bits of stringy meat and very, very few vegetables. This place is an absolute local treasure! They have an amazing selection of breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner foods. The fajita omelet was incredible, and the breakfast tater tot hotdish was so fun to try. Also a great array of drinks to choose from - alcoholic and not, from coffee to bloody marys to cocktails. Stopped in at The Mason Jar for lunch after an appointment. It was a bit hard to find but it is located inside of the bakery, Cupcake. It's a big cupcake logo you can't miss it. The atmosphere here is nice. Half cafe, half restaurant. I wish they had more lounge type seating though. I read another review that mentioned since it is located in a cupcake bakery you would expect it to be extremely girly, and catered toward women, but it wasn't like that at all. Don't let the bright colored pastels of the logo fool you. When you walk in you feel very at home. Decor had touches of rustic appeal with mason jars hanging from the ceilings and retro-esque styled seating and booths with modern bar included. As a manly man who was dining with himself I can tell you I didn't have to question my masculinity at all. For lunch I ordered the salmon pesto sandwich on a croissant bun. It did not disappoint! I judge bakeries by their croissants and this thing came out as a flaky, buttery explosion. Nested inside the bun were chunks of salmon covered with lemon aioli sauce that just all came together perfectly for a flavor punch to your taste buds. This sandwich was very rich and practically falling apart as I ate it. I also ordered fries but should have ordered the salad instead to counterbalance the overly rich flavors, it was a very tasty meal nonetheless. With the restaurant being so far out of the way for most people, I don't think it's a good enough place to travel out to just to try, but it is certainly a wonderful place to go for breakfast or brunch if you are in the area. It is a few miles from my office so I am always pleased to have as much variety as possible out here in Eagan. Their breakfast menu is served until 3pm. I have a confession though. I could not leave without being tempted to buy a few cupcakes. The staff was very helpful. However, I now am slightly questioning my masculinity. Damn you guys! read more

I'm shocked that this hip and eclectic place is in Eagan. I mean, no offense, Eagan. (Maybe I need to lose my stereotypes of the suburbs?) But anyways, this place is adorable -- love the mason jar decorations, the huge cozy booths, and the whole vibe. Also, where can you find a full bar AND a gourmet cupcake counter in the same space? We came for brunch. I had the breakfast hot dish, because why not? The highlight of the dish was some very flavorful (although Minnesota spicy) chorizo, along with some nice hollandaise and a wholesome side salad. My husband got the chocolate-peanut butter cupcake pancakes. Yes, you read that right. Their pancakes are modeled after cupcakes in the adjacent cupcake store. These pancakes came with a side of peanut butter cake frosting. Service was great -- the waitress with the purple hair was really friendly. Prices were a bit high, especially at the cupcake place. But I'd love to come back for lunch or dinner, and to try some of the funky cocktails. read more

I love their food! I literally haven't eaten a bad dish there! The simple small menu is refreshing and I feel like it's updated regularly. However the cupcakes... don't bother... we've eaten there more than a few times and the cupcake bar is tempting. Looks amazing, looking into the cases, I drool with all the wonderful flavors. I've been here a few times now and the food is always delicious. Today the service was also excellent. I again enjoyed the breakfast quiche with side vinaigrette baby greens and tomatoes. This time I had them add some mozzarella chunks to get a full Calabrese salad. Yumm. Today's quiche had turkey, squash, and tomatoes along with other stuff I can't remember. Regardless it was delicious. I talked my guy into the the pork & huevos rancheros. He loved it but as usual pushed aside the guacamole and Pico so I rescued them. I'm helpful like that. **Coming back for Chicken Wild Rice Soup** As much as I really wanted to love the tater tot hot dish, it seemed to look better than it tasted. The hamburger meat on the bottom was sitting in a liquid that seemed like grease, and not the homemade cream of mushroom I was hoping for. Besides the greasy taste, there wasn't as much flavor profile as I would expect. A bit bland. Although, I was able to tell my waitress that the dish wasn't as up to par as I had hoped, and instead I ordered the Homemade Chicken Wild Rice soup. That soup alone is what will make me come back and try again. It had complex and delicious flavor and the chicken in it was perfectly cooked and still juicy which was something I didn't expect at the end of the night. Two of my family members ordered a salad and their input was that the greens were in too big of pieces to eat comfortably. The lemonade was very good, and I enjoyed the cornbread and the fries trio even more. I am looking forward to coming back and trying something different. Frustrating dinner out with my friend this evening. Came in and enjoyed the atmosphere...the food, but not our server. Asking if everything is okay as we are pretty much finishing our food is not checking in on a table...furthermore, standing 6 feet away and half walking away asking if it is okay, doesn't work either. SLOW DOWN, take the time to ask how things are, is everything okay. I spent good money on my salmon dinner....the salmon was fab, but the lobster risotto under it was COLD!!! I could not get the servers attention long enough to explain, it was cold when it arrived! GROSS! We were obviously taking up time away from all the chit chat going on and the time spent in the back doing side work....not fair. NOT a good representation of the MJK. We will be going back for the FOOD.....not Danielle. Hate throwing her under the bus, but use your etiquette to wait on tables...this is a $30+ plus meal and treating us like we are in Chili's is not cool. read more
